I know you can open them with Windows key+ 1,2,3,etc
But for example if I am watching a video in firefox (current window) and want to exit my music player(songbird, minimized in the background) So i can hear the video, is there a hotkey where i can simply press some key combination and select its number on the taskbar?
Remember when you installed Windows 7, there was that one setup thing that asked you for the time, your username, and password?Ok so my friend wanted me to upgrade his HP laptop to Windows 7, since he originally had the you-know-is-junk version of windows (Vista).I was able to install all of the software, but what I want to know is if there's a way to run that configuration setup thing again.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter all the trouble that I went to remove the old partitions on the HD in my secondary rig, I forgot to disconnect a second HD installed, and after going through a number of other repairs just before starting the installation, I wasn't thinking clearly and deleted the partitions that I had made with the HD installed on my primary rig.
Attempting to recreat the partitions with the installation procedure got things even more messed up because I didn't find any facility for actuallyt creating a partition of the size that I wanted, only a format function, which I assumed would format the entire drive, or as I did, click Next, hoping to find something more in the next screen, but it then just started the installation itself, and took the entire drive, except a 100MB partition that it also created for the system reserved functions.
Not being in the mood to once again remove the harddrive back to my primary rig for prep, I let it continue the installation, because it would not permit me to delete the partitions that it had made. I'm hoping that I can resize the main partition after the install completes, but if like when I installed the x32 bit version in this manner, it scattered files across the partition in a fashion that would make it difficult to do so.
On my primary rig, I have the entire OS installed on one neat 100GB partition, and that is what I want here also. I'm trying to decide whether to nuke the HD again, or finish the installation and attempt to customize it afterward. Which would be better?
Somehow I changed the background in windows and now everything is HUGE. I managed to find a browser to work and that is visually "ok." But everything in my computer is out of reach due to the size of all icons, fonts, etc. How can I get it changed back? I can't even get to system restore to go back to a restore point.

When I clean installed Windows 7 it would create 3 partitions
0 byte = unallocated
100MB - reserved
and 80GB (the rest) = install
Somehow, I eventually got rid of that 0 byte partition during one of my reinstalls.I thought I knew how I did it, but apparently not.I am trying to install W8 on a spare drive that I probably tried unsuccessfully to image my Windows 7 system to when it still had the 0 byte partition.
I've just built my first PC which uses a MSI Z77A-GD65 MOBO.I burned the Windows 7 .iso file to a DVD and tried to boot it from that (I went into the BIOS and explicitly stated for the system to do so) However when I do, it produces the phrase "Reboot and Select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key".The disk is brand new and clean and the LED on the optical drive flashes as if attempting to read from the disk but to no avail.I have also put the .iso file onto a flash memory stick and tried to boot it from that it says "SYSLINUX 4.03 2010-10-22 EDD Copyright (C) 1994-2919 H. Peter Anvin et al.ERROR: No configuration file found.No DEFAULT or UI configuration directive found!" then it asks me "boot:"When I type in the .iso file name, it says EDIT: "Invalid or corrupt kernel image." but I can view the .iso fine on windows explorer on my other computer.

View 1 Replies View RelatedNew drive 1gb external, running bitlocker for the first time. Left it overnight cos it was taking forever, (which is the norm)
Woke up this morning and it was stuck on something like 47.1% requesting the bitlocker password, put that in and it starts encrypting again.... But every few random mins it falls over with an error message:
An Error Occurred The System cannot find the file specified. And prompts me to put my bitlocker password back in, for which I do, and the encrpytion starts again.
Its like at 50% now, after it falling over 3 times in the last 30mins.. I'm not exactly what to do.. I cant sit here for the next 10hrs waiting for it to fall over every few mins asking for the password.
I'd be up for scrapping the whole encrpytion and starting all over again.. But not exactly sure on how to permantely un-crypt the drive and reformat it ? Perhaps running a scandisk before doing so... It was a brand new drive.
I can actually still access the data, because autoplay opens after every error allowing me to see and open the files.
I am having a problem with my Windows 7 Pro edition when burning data to a CD-RW.When I add new data to existing data already burned on the CD-RW, the data has been written correctly to the disk, but when I view the disk after writing the new data, I never see the new data...the only data I see is the data that was written to the CD-RW at the FIRST burning. When I place my CD-RW in my other computer with Windows XP, all the data appears...initial burning and all subsequent burnings; place it in my Windows 7 CD drive and NO secondary data is showing.In one program I have for burning, I actually get a dialog box saying "the data has been written correctly to the disk, but the number of files does not match the expected file count. Most likely, the file system structure has not been written correctly and some files will not appear on the disk." What is going on with this "file system structure has not been written correctly?"This is a new wrinkle in the sheet for me. I have 5 CD/DVD read/write drives, and they all work the same...only initial files show and other files are not visible when re-burning to a CD-RW. It is really a new Agatha Christie mystery to me.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an HP Pavilion dv3 which was built with Vista Home Premium x64 and upgraded to Windows 7 almost a year ago. I recently purchased an Iogear GBU421 (Bluetooth 2.1 Mini Adapter) and followed the instructions in the included manual. I have a laptop with a slot-loading CD drive, so I downloaded the drivers from the Iogear webpage and installed from the setup.exe. I restarted my computer and tried to turn the device on from the system tray. What happens is the icon (which looks like a tall blue hexagon with a red X through it) disappears when I select "Turn Adapter On", and nothing happens. The icon reappears 1-2 minutes later. The following Bluetooth-related services are running currently: btwdins.exe, BTTray.exe.
I already tried un- and re-installing the device driver software, without success.
SOLVED: Turns out all I needed to do was have Windows Update install new driver software from the device manager. Bluetooth now behaves normally on my Bluetooth-ready cellphone.
I currently have 2 physical systems.I am trying to migrate over to the new system which has new hardware etc...Currently my existing system is running absolutely fine. WS2008R2 EE 64bit with all updates. The drives are SATA (there are physical disks on the system and none of them are RAID)my new system is using an Asus p6x58D-E mobo and has 1 SSD SATA as a bootable drive. I also have 3 other phyiscal disks on this system and one of them is a RAID0 (2x2TB non bootable).after 3 days and nights of clean installation (as I thought I was doing something unsupported... I install Windows on the SSD I create the RAID0 system on the 2x2TB HDD I install the drivers (chipset, graphics, mobo and SATA/RAID). I then do Windows update.it finds 92 updates + 1 update for the onboard LAN.I install them but in the end it fails to install saying that there were installations in progress and should reboot to complete the updates.So I reboot and it gets into Windows doing some configuring, and then it restarts again. Then it just says:"Stage 3 of 3. Preparing to configure Windows. Do not turn off your computer And the progress is just going round and round. The system is not locked or anything. the new system has an i7 core Extreme 990x 3.46GHz gulftown CPU. right now, its just there... "configuring".
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been wanting to upgrade to getting an SSD and I was just wanting to know does anyone know if you're able to install a copy of Windows twice if it's from an OEM copy? I bought an OEM off of Newegg and the only thing I thought was different was that it didn't come with a manual and other things that really aren't necessary, but I heard somewhere that you aren't able to use OEMs for doing a OS wipe and reinstalling and it's just a one time thing.
Will I have to also buy another copy of Windows 7 anyone know? If that's the case I'd rather hold off for another month or two before I buy my SSD.
Also I'm planning on getting a Samsung 840 Series
I want to make some "show desktop shortcut" on the taskbar, and when I click on it, it must to react same as when I press Win+M hotkey.
[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop
When I save this as show.scf it is react just like Win+D hotkey. But I want to create win+M hotkey's shortcut. If it possible to make this shortcut, when you click on it it must Minimize all windows by effect. And I want to sort folders by myself, for example: I have folder A, B, C, D and I want to sort them not by alphabet or by size.. I should able to put folder D after A, I cant drag them.
It it possible to disable Win+X hotkey without disabling the Mobility Center itself? Or, better yet, use some other hotkey for mobility center (which, though, is probably simple) and bind some other hotkey to Win+X?
I have HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplorerNoWinKeys set to 0x01 already.
Additionally, I want to bind (shift+)alt+tab actions to Win+Z / Win+X is that possible?Additionally (in case this won't require a separate tread), I can't bind Win+` (at least in Launchy) is there something special about this combination?
I've been browsing the web to find an answer for my question, but with no luck.
I use Windows 7 on a PC which is setup to be both an office and an entertainment computer. Therefore it's connected to two seperate screens with one graphic card. The screens are one 19" desktop screen (1280x1024) and one 40" Samsung LCD TV (1920x1080). When I'm browsing the web, working with documents etc. I use the desktop screen and when I watch movies, pictures etc. I use the TV.
Now I'm trying to switch between them in an easy way. I've tried several third party applications but eventually found that the best way to switch between these in fact is to use Windows 7 built-in software. I've setup Windows to recognize the two seperate screens and I switch between them by using the "Multiple Displays" option in the settings. I then switch by using "show desktop only on 1/2".
Do anyone know if this switch can be done by using a hotkey combination through Windows or through some other software? It's not the end of the world right clicking the desktop and doing it, but it'd be nice to save a few clicks every time.
Just found out something really cool and useful. It's like 3D flip but better, as all the active windows become smaller but are facing forward, which makes it easier to choose the needed one. When you point them with your mouse, it shows the software/folder name.I know the alt + tab and win + tab combos, but there has to be some for this one too I guess. Haven't found it even though I tried searching the Interner for hotkey guides.The way I found this option was when I was using my Logitech mouse on my laptop, and started customizing the mouse buttons... I found a button command "switch between software", chose it, and found this option out. How can I do the same thing without my mouse, just using some keyboard combo?Here's a pic of how it looks. Originally Microsoft Word was on top, after pressing the button all the windows were resized and placed next to each other.
