Use A Windows 7 OEM Copy After The Initial Install?

Jan 10, 2013

I've been wanting to upgrade to getting an SSD and I was just wanting to know does anyone know if you're able to install a copy of Windows twice if it's from an OEM copy? I bought an OEM off of Newegg and the only thing I thought was different was that it didn't come with a manual and other things that really aren't necessary, but I heard somewhere that you aren't able to use OEMs for doing a OS wipe and reinstalling and it's just a one time thing.

Will I have to also buy another copy of Windows 7 anyone know? If that's the case I'd rather hold off for another month or two before I buy my SSD.

Also I'm planning on getting a Samsung 840 Series

Creating A Copy Of Win7 From Initial Bootup

Dec 21, 2009

I was told I could create a copy of windows 7 from initial bootup when turning on my HP Pavilion dv7t notebook by either pushing f8 or f11? Can someone please tell which is the proper key and how to do it from there? I already have the dual layer disc to burn it on, but can I burn it from the cd burner in the computer or an external cd burner(I have one of those as well). This computer has not been turned on yet.

Once Initial Language Selected On Install - Can It Be Changed Later?

Jan 27, 2012

I have purchased a brand new laptop with an OEM Windows 7 Home Premium. On the first boot it runs that wizard asking you to select locale etc. After doing some research I see that supposedly only Win7 Ultimate will allow multiple languages which is confusing since Home Premium is allowing me to select one. My questions are...

1) If I select a language on this first time boot wizard, once it configures/installs can I change it to another selection at a later? If the answer is "No" then...
2) If I re-install fresh from the accompanying rescue CD will I then be presented with the first time boot wizard again allowing to select the locale and thus changing it there?

I haven't decided if I want to run the box in English or Japanese yet but both options are available on the first time boot screen which I find very confusing since by all accounts Ultimate is the only version that should allow this.

Trying To Get Initial Windows 7 Boot

Oct 16, 2012

I've just built my first PC which uses a MSI Z77A-GD65 MOBO.I burned the Windows 7 .iso file to a DVD and tried to boot it from that (I went into the BIOS and explicitly stated for the system to do so) However when I do, it produces the phrase "Reboot and Select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key".The disk is brand new and clean and the LED on the optical drive flashes as if attempting to read from the disk but to no avail.I have also put the .iso file onto a flash memory stick and tried to boot it from that it says "SYSLINUX 4.03 2010-10-22 EDD Copyright (C) 1994-2919 H. Peter Anvin et al.ERROR: No configuration file found. No DEFAULT or UI configuration directive found!" then it asks me "boot:"When I type in the .iso file name, it says EDIT: "Invalid or corrupt kernel image." but I can view the .iso fine on windows explorer on my other computer.

Can Copy A Recovered Windows 7 OS Over A Fresh Install

Aug 2, 2011

Today I restarted my main audio machine and the C drive wont bootTurns out the pcb on the drive has a burn mark... So by luck there is a identical drive in the same machine bought on the same day I unscrewed the pcb from the working drive and gave it a shot and to my surprise my data recovery software - file scavenger was able to recover all the files and folders in their native file structure....I want to now move them to the new drive and have it boot up into that system...I was wondering if I install a fresh os Windows 7 64 on to the new drive and pull that drive out of the machine and put it on the chain of the other computer that has the rescued files on it. Can I then copy the rescued files to the drive with the freshly installed Windows 7 64 on it and over write the files with my old systems files? After doing that and returning the drive to my old system will the old system boot up? Is there any tricks anyone can suggest short of re installing everything. I have a shitload of 3rd party plug ins which would take months to re instal... Not to mention my dsp audio card drivers and host environment, utils and the list goes on.If i can get this up and running I swear I will make a backup image and will never be in the same situation again...

BSOD Happens On Initial Loading Of Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit

When I get the login screen, I just see the buffer LED glowing for 1 minute. Then it calms down. Then after logging in, the buffer LED keeps glowing for 5 minutes and my computer is terribly slow. If I do nothing through all this operation and just wait, all will be okay. So usually I can use my laptop after 8 minutes from turning it on.On the other hand, if i directly start opening applications before the buffer LED turns off (sometime only firefox), I directly get the bsod. Each time I get a different code for it. Why is this happening? Please find below the laptop specs and things that I have tried. [code]

Windows 7 Freezes During Installation Just Past Initial Logo

Dec 30, 2010

I just installed a new SSD and put a few programs on it. I boot windows XP from my current HDD. I also have a copy of windows 7 that has only been used once, so I was going to use another one of the installs from the disc for my computer. I wanted to put windows 7 on the new SSD, while leaving xp on the old HDD. I would then just make the SSD have boot priority, without having to worry about formatting the old HDD etc.

Well, when I put windows 7 in, and choose to boot from disc, it'll show the black screen where the loading bar goes to completion, then switches to a black screen where the colored balls form the windows logo, and finally the screen turns blue with some slight designs in the back (I believe it's the default windows 7 wallpaper). The mouse icon shows up, but that's it.

I can hear the disc stop spinning, and no additional windows pop up allowing me to complete installation and everything. I've reset all BIOS settings to default. I've tried making the SSD have boot priority over the HDD but it still freezes at the same spot. Everything I've done cause it to freeze at the same spot, actually. I've triple checked that all of my hardware is compatible with windows 7.

Initial Partitioning

Dec 26, 2009

After all the trouble that I went to remove the old partitions on the HD in my secondary rig, I forgot to disconnect a second HD installed, and after going through a number of other repairs just before starting the installation, I wasn't thinking clearly and deleted the partitions that I had made with the HD installed on my primary rig.

Attempting to recreat the partitions with the installation procedure got things even more messed up because I didn't find any facility for actuallyt creating a partition of the size that I wanted, only a format function, which I assumed would format the entire drive, or as I did, click Next, hoping to find something more in the next screen, but it then just started the installation itself, and took the entire drive, except a 100MB partition that it also created for the system reserved functions.

Not being in the mood to once again remove the harddrive back to my primary rig for prep, I let it continue the installation, because it would not permit me to delete the partitions that it had made. I'm hoping that I can resize the main partition after the install completes, but if like when I installed the x32 bit version in this manner, it scattered files across the partition in a fashion that would make it difficult to do so.

On my primary rig, I have the entire OS installed on one neat 100GB partition, and that is what I want here also. I'm trying to decide whether to nuke the HD again, or finish the installation and attempt to customize it afterward. Which would be better?

Initial 0 Byte Partition

Mar 3, 2012

When I clean installed Windows 7 it would create 3 partitions

0 byte = unallocated
100MB - reserved
and 80GB (the rest) = install

Somehow, I eventually got rid of that 0 byte partition during one of my reinstalls.I thought I knew how I did it, but apparently not.I am trying to install W8 on a spare drive that I probably tried unsuccessfully to image my Windows 7 system to when it still had the 0 byte partition.

Bitlocker Crashing During Initial Encryption

Sep 15, 2012

New drive 1gb external, running bitlocker for the first time. Left it overnight cos it was taking forever, (which is the norm)

Woke up this morning and it was stuck on something like 47.1% requesting the bitlocker password, put that in and it starts encrypting again.... But every few random mins it falls over with an error message:

An Error Occurred The System cannot find the file specified. And prompts me to put my bitlocker password back in, for which I do, and the encrpytion starts again.

Its like at 50% now, after it falling over 3 times in the last 30mins.. I'm not exactly what to do.. I cant sit here for the next 10hrs waiting for it to fall over every few mins asking for the password.

I'd be up for scrapping the whole encrpytion and starting all over again.. But not exactly sure on how to permantely un-crypt the drive and reformat it ? Perhaps running a scandisk before doing so... It was a brand new drive.

I can actually still access the data, because autoplay opens after every error allowing me to see and open the files.

Files On CD-RW Not Showing After Initial Burn?

Sep 23, 2010

I am having a problem with my Windows 7 Pro edition when burning data to a CD-RW.When I add new data to existing data already burned on the CD-RW, the data has been written correctly to the disk, but when I view the disk after writing the new data, I never see the new data...the only data I see is the data that was written to the CD-RW at the FIRST burning. When I place my CD-RW in my other computer with Windows XP, all the data appears...initial burning and all subsequent burnings; place it in my Windows 7 CD drive and NO secondary data is showing. In one program I have for burning, I actually get a dialog box saying "the data has been written correctly to the disk, but the number of files does not match the expected file count. Most likely, the file system structure has not been written correctly and some files will not appear on the disk." What is going on with this "file system structure has not been written correctly?"This is a new wrinkle in the sheet for me. I have 5 CD/DVD read/write drives, and they all work the same...only initial files show and other files are not visible when re-burning to a CD-RW. It is really a new Agatha Christie mystery to me.

Bluetooth Initial Configuration Will Not Launch

Apr 12, 2011

I have an HP Pavilion dv3 which was built with Vista Home Premium x64 and upgraded to Windows 7 almost a year ago. I recently purchased an Iogear GBU421 (Bluetooth 2.1 Mini Adapter) and followed the instructions in the included manual. I have a laptop with a slot-loading CD drive, so I downloaded the drivers from the Iogear webpage and installed from the setup.exe. I restarted my computer and tried to turn the device on from the system tray. What happens is the icon (which looks like a tall blue hexagon with a red X through it) disappears when I select "Turn Adapter On", and nothing happens. The icon reappears 1-2 minutes later. The following Bluetooth-related services are running currently: btwdins.exe, BTTray.exe.

I already tried un- and re-installing the device driver software, without success.

SOLVED: Turns out all I needed to do was have Windows Update install new driver software from the device manager. Bluetooth now behaves normally on my Bluetooth-ready cellphone.
