Once Initial Language Selected On Install - Can It Be Changed Later?

Jan 27, 2012

I have purchased a brand new laptop with an OEM Windows 7 Home Premium. On the first boot it runs that wizard asking you to select locale etc. After doing some research I see that supposedly only Win7 Ultimate will allow multiple languages which is confusing since Home Premium is allowing me to select one. My questions are...

1) If I select a language on this first time boot wizard, once it configures/installs can I change it to another selection at a later? If the answer is "No" then...
2) If I re-install fresh from the accompanying rescue CD will I then be presented with the first time boot wizard again allowing to select the locale and thus changing it there?

I haven't decided if I want to run the box in English or Japanese yet but both options are available on the first time boot screen which I find very confusing since by all accounts Ultimate is the only version that should allow this.

Use A Windows 7 OEM Copy After The Initial Install?

Jan 10, 2013

I've been wanting to upgrade to getting an SSD and I was just wanting to know does anyone know if you're able to install a copy of Windows twice if it's from an OEM copy? I bought an OEM off of Newegg and the only thing I thought was different was that it didn't come with a manual and other things that really aren't necessary, but I heard somewhere that you aren't able to use OEMs for doing a OS wipe and reinstalling and it's just a one time thing.

Will I have to also buy another copy of Windows 7 anyone know? If that's the case I'd rather hold off for another month or two before I buy my SSD.

Also I'm planning on getting a Samsung 840 Series

BootMgr Is MIA If Install HDD Selected In BIOS

Oct 15, 2010

After an attempt to dual boot my system with 32 bit OS, I couldn't boot back into 64, it wasn't even an option. So, I figured I must have messed up the install and it was time for a clean one. Now I get an option to dual boot windows 7 or windows 7 (recovered).

Recovered is the one I want, but if I switch my boot HDD to the one that Windows 7 (recovered) is on, bootmgr is suddenly MIA.

I have not a clue how to restore it, and I even wiped the second HDD clean.

Can't Do An Upgrade Install - Different Language

Jan 18, 2009

I'd like to do an upgrade install of Windows 7 Beta. Unfortunately, my current OS (Vista Ultimate 64) is in Italian, thus I cannot upgrade. I even tried to install the English language pack and I made sure to set the language in English. The problem is I cannot uninstall the Italian language as Windows tells me that it's the system language.

Is there any way to make Windows think that English is the default language of my computer? I really don't want to make a clean install.

Changed The Default Install Path To?

Oct 24, 2011

I was having probs installing Office 2007 a while back and whilst using 2 forums for help to resolve the issue, one of the things i had to do was (i think) change the default install path for when i'm installing new programs. The 2 links for the help pages i was using are: Office 2007 Install Error 2203 - Office Setup Error 2203. An Internal Error has occurred.

The problem i've created is that now i'm unable to apply most updates for the programs that are currently installed (and thus on shutdown it always tries to apply updates, that fail) and also, i'm not able to install and new programs.

Drive Letters Changed After Install

Jan 6, 2010

Decided to install Windows 7 Pro today but when the install completed, I noticed my drive letters were out of order.

Previously, my partition drives when running Vista Home Premium were

C: System
D: Recovery
E: Apps
F: Data

Now its automatically changed to

C: System
D: Apps
E: Data
F: Recovery

My HP Recovery partition jumped down the list and changed from D to F and shifted the letters of the other drives as well. I have no idea why it changed on its own as I only installed Windows 7 in drive C. The Recovery drive is the 2nd fullest driver on my HD behind C Drive.

Is this normal? Is there a fix for such a thing?

Vista To 7 In Different Language Using Custom Install

May 13, 2011

I have two simple questions, but I cannot find definitive answers .

>I have windows vista business 64bit (language: Dutch)
>I want windows 7 professional 64bit (language: English)

I am going to use upgrade media to upgrade vista to 7.

1. Can I change the language from Dutch to English if I do a custom installation? Answered: yes
2. Is it a 100% clean installation if I do a custom installation and format during this procedure? Answered: read thread

Ad 1: If you do a custom install, formatting the drives, the language difference between vista and 7 is not a technical obstacle. So it comes down to licensing: does Microsoft accept this?

Ad 2: I do not want to use any 'registry workarounds'. But since people are using them, I'm wondering if a custom installation (with formatting during this process) indeed is a fully clean installation. The different tutorials are very confusing on this matter.

Language Pack Uninstall/Install & Disk Space?

Aug 14, 2011

I am trying to free space in my HD and I when through the uninstall process of all the additional languages I had initially installed (lpksetup) and after clicking on all the languages I wanted to uninstall the system estiamted that I would recover about 8GB. The uninstall went through fine bu I did NOT recover any space, actually the disk utilization went up by about 3GB after windows removed all the additional languages. Then I decided to re-install all the additional langugae just to see if the free space in the HD would increase by 3GB. Well... the free space went down one more time, now by about 6GB. So my HD has additional 9GB of data on it. I have no idea what to do or what folderm, temp file to delete.BTW I already tried:Disk Clean Up Delete all the temp files in all users in AppDataTemp I turned off hibernation before I started all this process I ran windows washer and delete all the temp, cookies, interenet, etc files My laptop has always been running an AV, Spyware so this is not a Virus or Spyware. I already scanned also with Malware Bytes.Any temp folder I should take a look to delete any additional file(s) that are temp or not needed?

Initial Partitioning

Dec 26, 2009

After all the trouble that I went to remove the old partitions on the HD in my secondary rig, I forgot to disconnect a second HD installed, and after going through a number of other repairs just before starting the installation, I wasn't thinking clearly and deleted the partitions that I had made with the HD installed on my primary rig.

Attempting to recreat the partitions with the installation procedure got things even more messed up because I didn't find any facility for actuallyt creating a partition of the size that I wanted, only a format function, which I assumed would format the entire drive, or as I did, click Next, hoping to find something more in the next screen, but it then just started the installation itself, and took the entire drive, except a 100MB partition that it also created for the system reserved functions.

Not being in the mood to once again remove the harddrive back to my primary rig for prep, I let it continue the installation, because it would not permit me to delete the partitions that it had made. I'm hoping that I can resize the main partition after the install completes, but if like when I installed the x32 bit version in this manner, it scattered files across the partition in a fashion that would make it difficult to do so.

On my primary rig, I have the entire OS installed on one neat 100GB partition, and that is what I want here also. I'm trying to decide whether to nuke the HD again, or finish the installation and attempt to customize it afterward. Which would be better?
