when i moved to spain from the uk last year i bought a laptop here windows 7 home premium was pre-installed at some point and i don't remember how i changed the display language from spanish to english i have just bought another laptop which also has windows 7 home premium installed and i can't work out how to change the display language the received wisdom seems to be that it is only possible with an upgrade to ultimate but i didn't upgrade my first machine is it possible that i reinstalled windows and was therefore able to select english as the default display language?
I have purchased a brand new laptop with an OEM Windows 7 Home Premium. On the first boot it runs that wizard asking you to select locale etc. After doing some research I see that supposedly only Win7 Ultimate will allow multiple languages which is confusing since Home Premium is allowing me to select one. My questions are...
1) If I select a language on this first time boot wizard, once it configures/installs can I change it to another selection at a later? If the answer is "No" then... 2) If I re-install fresh from the accompanying rescue CD will I then be presented with the first time boot wizard again allowing to select the locale and thus changing it there?
I haven't decided if I want to run the box in English or Japanese yet but both options are available on the first time boot screen which I find very confusing since by all accounts Ultimate is the only version that should allow this.
I have a problem with the entries in the start menu. Normaly I have Swedish which is what the system is set to use. But for some reason the entries in the start menu is english now!How can I change that back? Maybe it hapened when I installed and run the program "Advanced System Care" which was suposed to be a good program, but I'm not sure. I didn't help to uninstall it by the way.
I have been installing Portuguese PhotoStory 3 on my windows 7 machine. It install OK. I reboot. When I invoke Photostory 3 I am expecting to find it in Portuguese, ... but its still in English.i used the official PhotoStory3Portuguese(Brazil).msi?Even if I install the Portuguese version, does it still look at the OS language when invoked and say "well, your OS is in English so I am going to display in English"?
Is it possible to have windows 7 language to be English UK but the keyboard language to be US?I want to setup my windows 7 language to be English UK, but I want my keyboard language to be US. Everytime I try to set my win7 language to be UK, it also changes my keyboard to UK as well and some of the keys like qoutes and @ and & sign are all messed up.
my friend add new language as part of competition we have in our collage for how can make big customize on windows and she tell me that doing this is so hard !!! dose any one know how?? in windows 7
I've removed one of the language keyboard input in the settings but seems like it still appears in my language bar in desktop and it doubts me because everytime I have to shift twice to get back my input language into "EN" after using other language input.
I am about to purchase an asus laptop in Germany (with Windows 7 HP on). Now I know I can't change the system language (need windows ultimate for that) but I believe on Asus computers you can select English as the display language on the initial install (so each shop is telling me) and so i have read (which i don't really understand as why can you do this on ASus laptops only - surely windows is windows? ie you can or you can't!).
If this is true i was wondering just what will be changed into English (i.e. what exactly is the display language)? I gather the majority of menus etc will be in English, but what about if my laptop goes wrong and I have to start digging a bit deeper? Does anyone know if all the settings menus change so i'll be able toedit the registry if need be (just an example!).
I will probably be getting this motherboard Gigabyte GA-Z68A-D3H-B3 rev. 1.0 Socket 1155 ATX Motherboard Intel Z68 Express Intel Core i7 i5 i3 LGA1155 Processors, Dual DDR3 2133 SATA III SATA 6.0 Gb/s Gigabit LAN SLI CrossFireX USB3.0 HDMI DVI 7.1 Channels Audio-Best Computer Online Store Hous I will be putting in 4 GB of RAM. Do I need to get 2 - 2 GB or can I use 1- 4GB stick? I was thinking if I can used a 4 GB then I can just buy another 4 GB if I decide to go 64 bit.I am shying away from going 64 bit now due to having MS Office 2003.
This is a 1GB thumb drive and its been working just fine. Put some files on it with this machine with the intent of transferring to another machine (which did not come to pass).
I am trying to install a new gig stick of RAM. I took out the old 256 stick but cant start windows with the gig stick in the same slot. I've found some places in the device manager that say RAM and was about to delete them hoping it would let me install the new gig stick but I wanted to post this first to get some help from the pros. Im sure this is a simple problem, so how do I fix it so I can put this gig stick to good use!?
My wife keeps most of her data on a USB stick so that she can easily move it around her 3 laptops (in 3 different locations). This morning, the stick was dead. It did not say a piep, no power, nothing. Despite my constant preaching about the importance of backups, she had, of course, not backed it up for a long time.Well, I tried an old trick that may possibly help others. I put it into the fridge for a couple of hours. And low and behold, after that I was able to read the thing and copy all her files. Now she is a happy camper again. So if you have the same problem one day, try the fridge. No guarantee that it will work for you, but it did in this case. I have used the same trick with dead disks with some success.
I recently purchased a Kingston 16GB DataTraveler SE6 USB 2.0 stick. It works without fault in my 2 laptops running Windows 7 (x32), it also works perfectly in my car stereo & Android tablet. It is formatted as FAT.However on my desktop, running Windows 7 (x64) 9 times out of 10 I will get a message saying it needs formatting. 1 out of 10 it will work fine. Even if i try and format it it fails to format, both quick format and regular format. So i've concluded that the USB stick is fine and it must be an issue on my desktop. The desktop is a fairly new build, 3 months old and I'm experiencing no other issues with it. I use a number of other external drives on usb, mini memory sticks via readers and the like without issue. All drivers in Device Manager are reporting fine. i don't unfortunately have another USB stick to test.
Well, my usb stick is not working. and i've tried it on atleast 3 different computers. and there isn't a problem with the usb port. the thing is the red light doesn't flash when i put my usb stick in the port thingy.
I have a Strong SRT 5410 set top box. I have downloaded the software file to the usb stick. I put it in the back of the stb and the box says NO USB STORAGE.
After I forced a shutdown on my computer recently, and rebooted it, all of my folders have gotten all messed up.Before that, folders with lots of pictures used to show icons by default etc., and the file organization was completely different. Now, I can reorganize everything as much as I want, but when I close the folder and open it back up again, nothing has sticked. I might as well not have done it at all. What should I do?I managed to fix it myself by deleting explorer.exe and copying a new one from the backup. The problem seems to persist every time I reboot the computer though. I wonder what's up. For now I'll have to copy and paste the exe every time I boot it up I guess.
I've applied a set of custom cursors that just will not stick after a reboot but will after logging off and logging back in. As you can see by the SS, the Mac scheme cursors are already applied but the actual cursors don't reflect this.

I know the .ani & .cur files work for me as i had them working perfectly up until i clean installed onto my primary partition on my primary hard drive just the other day. The 'Mac' cursors are in %windir%Cursors btw.
If i select 'Windows Aero (system scheme)' cursor scheme, then re-select the Mac scheme and then Apply, the cursors of course change and stay throughout the session. After a reboot they revert to the default scheme however.
I've tried toggling the "Allow themes to change the mouse pointers" with a reboot.
Saving my current theme, changing the theme, switching back and rebooting.
And finally saving the theme for sharing (.themepack) changing to a different theme, applying the .themepack and rebooting.
All results are the same.
I have a suspicion it's a small reg setting (maybe a toggle setting, (value from 0-1)) but i'm not sure where it'd be and can't find anything relevant in the control panel.
I've been running Windows7x64 RTM for about 3 months now. For a couple of days now, whenever i reboot my system it reverts to an old wallpaper i set some time ago. I tried changing the theme & aero border color to see whether it sticks after a reboot & it does!
I checked the group policy settings for any change & didn't find any. I use up2date AV & I'm fairly certain that my system hasn't been compromised. I'm a fairly sophisticated user & find this very annoying.
i have got a Realfine LTD DVB-T Stick, working perfectly on WindowsXP. But Windows 7 doesn't find any drivers. On Windows XP the driver's name wosIntel CE9500 DVB-T Receiver
or CE6230 Standalone Driver (BDA). Both drivers worked.
Someone has a defaultdriver for dvb-t sticks for windows 7 64 bit?
I know it's doable. I did it for 7100. I can't seem to do it for 7127 though.
Basically, I loaded the ISO in PowerISO. Then I told it to burn it to the USB stick. That's it. Now I can't find out how I did it. I tried a search on here and on Google.
I've been trying to boot windows from a USB stick for several weeks now and I finally got it to work. There is a lot of information on how to INSTALL windows from a bootable USB stick...WinToFlash is a great program...but little info on installing Win 7 ONTO a USB drive and then booting from it. The methods that I did find didn't seem to work for me. I always got the BSOD...usually the dreaded "Unmountable_boot_volume" 0000000ED error. I used a mixture of the various methods to finally get it to work. First, I created a 16GB VHD on my main HD, an 80GB Intel SSD. I then used GImagex GImageX - AutoItScript to install an image from a .wim I had created from an install of Windows 7 complete with all updates (yes, even service pack 1, that had killed previous attempts at a bootability), Office and some other progams. I then used EasyBCD EasyBCD - Take control of your boot loader | NeoSmart Technologies to add the VHD to my boot list.
Next, I booted to the VHD and installed PWBoot [project] PWBoot <Latest version: 3.0.2> - Project forge - reboot.pro and used the "Patch existing system" option. I then restarted my system, booted normally (not to the VHD), and copied the .vhd file to my freshly formatted 32GB USB stick (Patriot Rage XT). After the VHD was copied, I went back to EasyBCD and used the BCD deployment tab and created bootable external media and installed the Windows 7 bootloader to the MBR. Next, I selected the newly created BCD store using the file menu, then used the Add New Entry to add the VHD using the Disk Image tab under Portable/External Media. To boot, I selected the USB drive in the start up BIOS settings.
Firstly, I have setup the Windows 7 superbar to never group programs and they appear similar to the way they do in Windows XP. I am now trying to figure out a way to get the programs to not "stick" together (e.g. when I launch firefox, all of the firefox icons open up adjacent to one another, instead of at the end of the last application that was opened).
I know this is probably a rare request because everyone seems to love the way the Superbar currently works, but I figure it never hurts to ask.
Also, I would politely request that if you intend to contribute to this thread with a response that is akin to "just get used to the new superbar", than I ask you to kindly ignore this post and continue along with your life.
