Corsair 16GB USB Stick Not Recognized
I have a Sony VGN-FZ320E laptop. I have installed Windows 7 Home Premium. My Corsair 16 GB "Flash Survivor Memory Drive" does not show up as a drive in Windows Explorer.

In the Device Manager it shows up under "Disk Drives" as "Corsair UFD USB Device". In Disk Management it shows up as "Disk 1 - Removable - 15.00 GB - Online". If I right-click it there and select Format, Properties, etc. I get an error message that the "Disk Management console view is not up-to-date..."

My USB disk drives work fine. Ideas?

Copying Large Files To USB Stick Or USB Hard Disk
I have a problem with Windows 7 RTM and copying to a USB device. All devices are correctly detected by Windows 7. When I start a copy of some small files, normally this works. However, when I want to copy some large files (500 MB - 2 GB), Explorer will "freeze" and after a while Windows becomes unresponsive, I can only do a reset of my machine.

THis happsn both on usb sticks or usb harddisks. On Vista, these devices work perfectly. The other way works, so when I want to copy something from an USB device to my pc it works. Also copying between internal harddrives does'nt give an issue. What can be the cause?

I tried removing the usb host / hub devices from Windows, so that these would be reïnstalled. I also removed Antivirus software. Further more, I reformated the usb sticks and hard drives without luck.

USB Stick Keeps Disconnecting
I've got a rather old USB-Stick (512 MB). It's formatted in FAT if I'm not mistaken. On Windows 2000 I don't have any problem with it. But with Windows 7 it wont work: When I connect it to the computer (no matter whether I use an extension cable or connect it directly), I hear the confirmation sound, that it has been connected. But only a few seconds later it automatically gets disconnected. Any idea, what might cause this?

USB Device Not Recognized On Win 7 - USB Mouse
I have a 4 week old Inspiron 1545 with Windows 7 Home premium that has developed an error: USB errors while trying to install a Microsoft USB mouse on this Laptop. Interestingly, my Microsoft USB Mouse installed perfectly first time and worked for about 2 weeks, and then failed.

In looking at the system restore points, it tells me that there have been two driver updates to the USB environment since the unit was shipped from Dell. I wonder if an automatic update from Microsoft has somehow inadvertently updated or replaced a Dell factory driver.

Two nights ago I spent 45 minutes with Dell tech support doing remote control bug fixing on this laptop. They werent able to fix it (in the time allowed). They downloaded at least one of their newest drivers onto this machine and rebooted it - and they seemed pretty savvy - but still not working.

So I went ahead a did a system restore to a point about 10 days back because I could see that a USB driver would be affected (as shown in the system restore menus), and I would like to compliment Microsoft on this very cool functionality!

At this point, I've unplugged the USB mouse, used the Device Manager to delete the 'unknown device', and done a system restore back to what I suspected was a working point. But still getting a 'Device not recognized' warning every few minutes, and still don't have a working mouse. I don't want to have to do system restores back to pprevious dates, although I suspect this is one solution.

Upgrade Without USB Stick Or DVD
i am reading a lot a from people not upgrading to a new build because they don't have a spare DVD or a 4 Gb USB stick handy.

Well you don't need all that.

Simply use your favorite mounting tool (i use Magic Disk), mount the image, start the upgrade process.

You might see an message about Magic Disk having to be reinstalled, dont worry, and continue.

You'll see, upgrade works just fine without wasting DVDs or time coping files to a USB drive.

USB Stick Drive Problem
I have two relatively new computers, both HP, both that are 64 bit machines that were delivered with Vista Home Premium.  I have just upgraded both of them to Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit..  I like 7 a lot except for the following problem on both computers.  I move files between the two computers using usb stick drives.  Sometimes they will read and write the usb drives just fine, but too often the system will not recognize the drives.  I get an error message about not recognizing the usb device inserted.

This mostly happens after I have copied data from the computer to the drive. If I reboot the computers everything seems to work as it should until I get the same error. When I check the files that were transfered before the recognition failure, they seem to be there. At first, I thought that it was a bad usb drive, but I get the same result with three other drives. I also don't think it is hardware since it would be too big a coincidence for both computers to develop the same hardware problem at the same time - not to mention  having three 3 usb drives also to go bad.

Why does it work after rebooting?  Is there a fix since it is obviously tied to the installation of Windows 7 upgrade over Windows Vista.  Is there a fix on the way and how do I work around this.  What is different than what I have seen in other posts is that my other usb devices (keyboard and mouse) continue to work.

Burn ISO To USB Memory Stick
I know it's doable. I did it for 7100. I can't seem to do it for 7127 though.

Basically, I loaded the ISO in PowerISO. Then I told it to burn it to the USB stick. That's it. Now I can't find out how I did it. I tried a search on here and on Google.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Never mind. It was UltraISO that let me do this.

Running Win7 From A USB Stick / Drive
I know there have been some discussions on this but I found this thread which actually DOES work for getting an XP system to work from a USB.

(Not only the install but actually Booting and running).

Ngine.de - How to install and run a FULL Windows XP from a USB drive

In theory something like this *could* work for Windows 7 --- anybody had a go yet.

Note - instead of Disconnecting Hard drives as specified in the link just disable them in the Bios - it's quicker and easier.

I know MS says its not possible but people seem to be able to find a way to do amazing things with computers.

Creating Bootable Cd/usb Stick For BIOS Flash
Where is the feature to create a bootable DOS CD or USB stick in order to flash motherboard BIOS/FW or expansion card controller BIOS/FW? Please, I know how to google, what I don't know is why the OS doesn't seem to provide a one-click option to create what's needed for BIOS flashing.

I shouldn't have to spend hours and hours to make some bootable CD/USB using any number of 3rd party utilities which may or may not work.  DOS is MS legacy, support it since it's still needed.

Doesn't matter whether the OS doesn't use that code anymore, clearly a number of critical applications rely on DOS and (gasp!) floppy disks. It's on MS and the manufacturers really, I can already imagine the replies in here saying it's Adaptec's problem that they put out a flash utility that requires DOS to flash their controllers...

Zyxel USB-Stick Probs With Download Rate
I installed Win7 a week ago and tryed to use it all the time. It worked well for me (better than Vista) except the fact that my downloadspeed was never higher than 1-2 kbyte/s. The Upload worked fine with ~80 kbyte/s (650kbit/s). So updating or other things worked too slow for me and I stopped testing Win7 for the moment.

Can anybody tell my why the downloadspeed is too low? [Zyxel Drivers: Vista, couldnt figure out if 32/64, zyxel homepage offers only one driver without any further info]

Win 7 Boot Freezes When USB Memory Stick Plugged In
I have a new shuttle PC with a USB port on the front. Windows 7 installed. When I power on the PC and the USB memory stick is plugged in, the boot freezes around the time you get the prompt to press DEL to enter bios. Before memory is tested.  As soon as I unplug the USB stick, the boot proceeds normally.

Could this be a windows 7 problem? I have not done much experimenting to isolate the problem. But it does happen everytime I have the USB memory stick plugged into the USB port when I start the PC.

None Of USB Connections Are Recognized
I have just installed Windows 7 32 bit and now none of my USB connections are being recognised. my computer specs are: http://www.acerdirect.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_9301AWSMi_Laptop_LX.AWP0X.008/version.asp Before I installed Windows 7 everything worked fine on XP. I have 3 Maxtor Onetouch 4 external hard drives, a logitech wireless keyboard and mouse. Even my iphone isnt being found when i plug it in. I get no response from windows when I plug the USB's in. I can hear the external hard drives powering up so it isn't a power issue and I have swapped all of the USB connection leads about and it doesn't make any difference.

I've tried all of my hard drives on my friends computer and they all work fine. Ive looked through the forums for answers but cannot seem to find any that work. I have been to the disk manager and device manager and they cant find the USB connections. Ive also been to the Maxtor/Seagate website and non of their walk through seem to work or be applicable to this scenario.

Any help that you could give me would be greatly appreciated as I'm a student and really need to access these external hard drives along with my i-Phone etc (preferably on my own PC).

USB Device Not Recognized, Only At 4/12 Ports
I have Kingston 2GB DataTraveler (DT) and windows 7 RTM 64bit does not recognize it when pluged into 2 front usb ports or 2 top back usb ports. Other 6 lower back ports work. I have Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3 mobo. This mobo has 8 usb on the back and 2 usb headers. One header is used for Codegen 7in1 cardreader+1usb port, other is used for 2 front panel usb ports. Few things ive noticed:

1) my old apacer mp3 player works on all usb ports.

2) most of new higher capacity usb's are not recognized in those malfuncioning ports

3) if i plug DT into Codegen's USB port, DT is then recognized on all ports

I've read this thread, tried instaling new Intel's Infs, tried removing all usb devices exept Codegen's. No effect. Any suggestions for my case?

USB Device Not Recognized Only In Win7
I have a WD Passport 160GB portable HDD, which worked fine in XP on the same computer before I installed Windows 7.

As many other people experienced, the once the device is connected, it will show USB device not recognized. However, my mouse and keyboard, which are USB also, are working flawlessly.

Besides the Passport, I have a Maxtor External HDD which is not working also, I tried every single USB port on the computer and it just won't work. And this one is powered by a small power adapter, so it should not be anything related to USB power. On the other hand, the Maxtor HDD is visible from BIOS, just not in Windows 7.

My computer is single boot Windows 7 RC 64bit, clean install.

I'm using Q6600, Foxconn MARS P35 mobo, Seagate 7200.10 250GB HDD, PNY 8600GT, OCZ 2x2GB DDR2 800 ram. I don't think the hardware have any problem since in XP everything worked fine, and all the drivers are up to date according to the device manager in Windows 7.

Any advice?
