View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to boot windows from a USB stick for several weeks now and I finally got it to work. There is a lot of information on how to INSTALL windows from a bootable USB stick...WinToFlash is a great program...but little info on installing Win 7 ONTO a USB drive and then booting from it. The methods that I did find didn't seem to work for me. I always got the BSOD...usually the dreaded "Unmountable_boot_volume" 0000000ED error. I used a mixture of the various methods to finally get it to work. First, I created a 16GB VHD on my main HD, an 80GB Intel SSD. I then used GImagex GImageX - AutoItScript to install an image from a .wim I had created from an install of Windows 7 complete with all updates (yes, even service pack 1, that had killed previous attempts at a bootability), Office and some other progams. I then used EasyBCD EasyBCD - Take control of your boot loader | NeoSmart Technologies to add the VHD to my boot list.
Next, I booted to the VHD and installed PWBoot [project] PWBoot <Latest version: 3.0.2> - Project forge - reboot.pro and used the "Patch existing system" option. I then restarted my system, booted normally (not to the VHD), and copied the .vhd file to my freshly formatted 32GB USB stick (Patriot Rage XT). After the VHD was copied, I went back to EasyBCD and used the BCD deployment tab and created bootable external media and installed the Windows 7 bootloader to the MBR. Next, I selected the newly created BCD store using the file menu, then used the Add New Entry to add the VHD using the Disk Image tab under Portable/External Media. To boot, I selected the USB drive in the start up BIOS settings.
got problems with my USB sticks. I have 2 Platinum 16gb sticks. I run a dual boot system with XP an Windows 7. If I plug the sticks when I'm running seven, seven says the volumes have to be formated. When I plug them while I'm running XP everything is fine. No problems...
Same system. Different OS...
The sticks are new. I tried to format them, but after I plug them into my Pioneer CDJs. The same behaviour appears.
I've been carrying the same one, a Kingston Data Traveler in a tiny ziploc in my pocket for years.Write the Windows 7 ISO to stick using UltraISO trial version: on File tab open ISO, on Bootable tab Write Image, then Format, Write. The installer files will be in the root but you can keep them in a folder when not installing so they don't accidentally get deleted.so that I add XP, Vista, various Office installers, Works, Adobe, Flash, Java, CCleaner, Auslogics Defraggers, PowerISO, Acronis boot disk, PW, memtest86, GWScan, etc.Instant tool kit for the pocket.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI currently install windows 7 from a usb stick. This is a standard usb 2.0 flash drive and it works very well. I'd estimate a total time of maybe 9-13 minutes to install windows 7 from scratch. Not too bad, in my humble opinion. But USB 3.0 is here! I want to install from the new USB architechture, but at 3.0 speed.Would I install usb 3.0 drivers from the initial starup screen where you would load raid or sata drivers? Or do I have to alter the installation media in some manner?

The cd drive however does not work and I was wondering if I could load the contents of the disc on my desktop and save them onto my USB stick, which would then go into my laptop?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI seem to have a problem, I recently created a usb drive with windows 7 on it but I can't boot from it at all, what I mean is when I press etc., on my keyboard it brings me to boot from device menu, when I tried to navigate to my usb stick and press enter it just freezes my pc, I tried waiting but it just brings up a error on my screen that windows did not boot properly.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI don't know how it happened but when I turn my computer on it won't load without a memory stick in that contains the recovery CD. If I put the stick everything works perfectly. The same applies to shutting down, if I try to shutdown without the memory stick in it will just stay on the log on screen. Put it in and click shutdown and it works fine.

I have a question regarding installation of Win 7 via USB stick. My mobo is an Asus P8Z68-V Pro Gen 3 now I can successfully start a Win 7 install but when it gets to the point where it needs to load the drivers for my hard drive it gives me an error telling me that a device driver is missing. I can only imagine it is the driver for my motherboards SATA controllers because when I run the install off a CD it detects my hard drives but when I do it from my USB 3 stick (on the front panel of my case) it tells me it can't find my hard drive. Does anyone know how to insert the correct drivers into my USB stick? Does anyone know what drivers I need?
View 5 Replies View Relatedinstalling Win 7 x64 from a bootable USB I made with WinToFlash on a Asus X401A.I know the stick is bootable because it loads windows files but after I chose language and keyboard and press install it says: "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now."I know this is a known problem but I have tried all the solution I could find, Change from USB port 3.0 to 2.0, use Ultra Iso to write Win images to stick (Win 7 32,64, Vista 32,64) but to no avail.
Note: last night when I used WinToFlash for the first time to transfer Win to the stick, instead of copying the files manually after I format the stick, I managed to install Windows but the USB ports didn't work at all, I tried 3 different sticks and nothing and I didn't have any drivers on the HDD and with no way to transfer anything on the notebook I fuleshly decided to reinstall Windows but I ran into the same "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing" error. On top of all of that the previous installation of windows wont boot, it says " windows failed to start. a recent hardware or software change might be the cause" and Repair your computer from the stick doesn't work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently, after trying to format a memory stick I have encountered some problems:
- After right clicking on the stick or on a partition and selecting format, nothing happens. Literally nothing, its like I didn't press it.
- Another a bit troubling issue, is that when I tried to scan with my antivirus, I get that the scan engine cant initialize, although the whole software works. I am using Bitdefender Internet Security 2010
I am currently scanning with ESET Online Scanned for viruses, to be sure I don't have a nasty one, but from what I see is that other then that, everything works fine. Finished the scan, with no issues. Also the troubling memory stick, i went to another PC, and was virus free and also was easily formatted. So i am afraid is something related to the system or something like that.

When I insert the Internet Modem USB Stick into my computer and then I wish to remove it, I really can't do so. I, however, can remove the Internet Modem USB Stick from the computer easily in Windows XP.I think it will reduce my Internet Modem USB Stick Lifetime and there probably should effect my computer lifetime if I try to remove the USB Stick without allowing to reject.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have just bought new PC with Windows 7 after old PC died. Have tried to transfer files from a memory stick (mainly word / excel) onto new pc but Windows exploer says memory stick folder is empty. When put stick into laptop (running I think on XP) it clearly shows files are present. Have tried copying files onto different stick but get the same problem.
New PC has Kapersky and it scanned the stick when 1st put it in and found no problems with it.

View 9 Replies View Relatedi am reading a lot a from people not upgrading to a new build because they don't have a spare DVD or a 4 Gb USB stick handy.
Well you don't need all that.
Simply use your favorite mounting tool (i use Magic Disk), mount the image, start the upgrade process.
You might see an message about Magic Disk having to be reinstalled, dont worry, and continue.
You'll see, upgrade works just fine without wasting DVDs or time coping files to a USB drive.
This is a 1GB thumb drive and its been working just fine. Put some files on it with this machine with the intent of transferring to another machine (which did not come to pass).

Is it possible to do an upgrade from 7068 x74 to 7077 x64 from a USB stick?
Do I extract the iso file to the usb stick and then go from there?
My wife keeps most of her data on a USB stick so that she can easily move it around her 3 laptops (in 3 different locations). This morning, the stick was dead. It did not say a piep, no power, nothing. Despite my constant preaching about the importance of backups, she had, of course, not backed it up for a long time.Well, I tried an old trick that may possibly help others. I put it into the fridge for a couple of hours. And low and behold, after that I was able to read the thing and copy all her files. Now she is a happy camper again. So if you have the same problem one day, try the fridge. No guarantee that it will work for you, but it did in this case. I have used the same trick with dead disks with some success.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a Kingston 16GB DataTraveler SE6 USB 2.0 stick. It works without fault in my 2 laptops running Windows 7 (x32), it also works perfectly in my car stereo & Android tablet. It is formatted as FAT.However on my desktop, running Windows 7 (x64) 9 times out of 10 I will get a message saying it needs formatting. 1 out of 10 it will work fine. Even if i try and format it it fails to format, both quick format and regular format. So i've concluded that the USB stick is fine and it must be an issue on my desktop. The desktop is a fairly new build, 3 months old and I'm experiencing no other issues with it. I use a number of other external drives on usb, mini memory sticks via readers and the like without issue. All drivers in Device Manager are reporting fine. i don't unfortunately have another USB stick to test.
