Windows 7 Does Not Read Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo?
Feb 18, 2011
I changed from Vista to Windows 7 32 bitMy Gateway model MD7329u laptop now does not display under My Computer, the Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo camera card when insterted into the Gateway card reader slot.
My Sony VGN-NW320f using windows 7 Pro Ricoh memory stick controller keep giving me an error every time I try to install a new USB device like, USB INTERNET hub, black playbook, any usb phone cant connect to desktop software. In the divice manager it says driver cannot verify the Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52).
My wife keeps most of her data on a USB stick so that she can easily move it around her 3 laptops (in 3 different locations). This morning, the stick was dead. It did not say a piep, no power, nothing. Despite my constant preaching about the importance of backups, she had, of course, not backed it up for a long time.Well, I tried an old trick that may possibly help others. I put it into the fridge for a couple of hours. And low and behold, after that I was able to read the thing and copy all her files. Now she is a happy camper again. So if you have the same problem one day, try the fridge. No guarantee that it will work for you, but it did in this case. I have used the same trick with dead disks with some success.
I don't know how it happened but when I turn my computer on it won't load without a memory stick in that contains the recovery CD. If I put the stick everything works perfectly. The same applies to shutting down, if I try to shutdown without the memory stick in it will just stay on the log on screen. Put it in and click shutdown and it works fine.
Recently, after trying to format a memory stick I have encountered some problems:
- After right clicking on the stick or on a partition and selecting format, nothing happens. Literally nothing, its like I didn't press it. - Another a bit troubling issue, is that when I tried to scan with my antivirus, I get that the scan engine cant initialize, although the whole software works. I am using Bitdefender Internet Security 2010
I am currently scanning with ESET Online Scanned for viruses, to be sure I don't have a nasty one, but from what I see is that other then that, everything works fine. Finished the scan, with no issues. Also the troubling memory stick, i went to another PC, and was virus free and also was easily formatted. So i am afraid is something related to the system or something like that.

We have just bought new PC with Windows 7 after old PC died. Have tried to transfer files from a memory stick (mainly word / excel) onto new pc but Windows exploer says memory stick folder is empty. When put stick into laptop (running I think on XP) it clearly shows files are present. Have tried copying files onto different stick but get the same problem.
New PC has Kapersky and it scanned the stick when 1st put it in and found no problems with it.
I know it's doable. I did it for 7100. I can't seem to do it for 7127 though.
Basically, I loaded the ISO in PowerISO. Then I told it to burn it to the USB stick. That's it. Now I can't find out how I did it. I tried a search on here and on Google.
I bought my FIRST Memory Stick, 16GB, to use wehn I uprgrade from W'7 Trial Version to Retail Version.........the seller said it was compatible with Vista and W'7'; I put the stick into my USB port and it showed it had FAT 32 on it and, NOT knowing for sure, I figured that it probably should have NTFS system on it before I transfer things on to it. I told my W'7 to format it to NTFS and it came back that it could not be done.
Please tell me IF I can use this stick with FAT32 to store data off of my present W'7 OS - to be re-installed onto a NEW install of W'7 in the near future.....OR.....does this stick have to have NTFS on it??
I have three memory sticks non now work when entered into usb. Have tried webcam and mouse in same usb they each load correctly. When I enter memory stick I hear an audio ping but no loading follows. I have tried checking if driver is up to date etc and all shows correct
I have tried another memory stick and that one isn't working either. However i have tried them on my laptop and they do work. It keeps claiming that the device drivers are not installing successfully, even though My memory stick clearly works. I performed a DriveCure scan, and everything is installed successfully. I have also tried other usb devices, such as my wacom tablet and it works fine. So it only seems to be having problems with External Memory Devices.
I downloaded about 14 CD's into My Docs Music Library and then sent them to a Kingston 2GB Data Traveler 101 USB 2.0 memory stick which plays OK on my computer. However when I insert the stick into a music player...nothing.
This should be east. I asked a hardware group and they gave me this link How To make Bootable USBUnfortunately He is showing how to make a USB with windows 7 bootable. What I want is to be able to put the equivelant of autorun.ini withthe name of the EXE. Not windows but my own software.
I had a bad memory stick that I was finally able to pin point I think. I have Memtest86 on a disc ready to go, how can I test this specific memory card only? Do I have to take the other 3 out & run the disk, or is there a way to run all together and I can pick which memory slot for it to check & run diagnostics on?
This is being used on PSP (File System is FAT32, was formatted on PSP itself) and had 26% fragmentation (6'6gb size of it). After copying all stuff I wanted to it (leaving 22% space) left all this fragmentation so decided to do a normal defrag (using defragler) since its going to need only 1 time as i dont plan to delete that stuff or replace it.
What is your opinion about if I could have gained any little performance on the memory stick doing this or not? Also didn't check yet if CCleaner can delete free space on this memory stick or not (not sure if this memory sticks store data like an HDD do so). Just doing a normal defrag on this memory stick took some good hours.
I bought a new memory stick and on inserting into the USB port it says it needs formating, but on formating and completion the computer tells me yhe stick cannot be formated
My 16 GB Centon memory stick I purchased @ Staples in Canada quit working & is not recognized in my computer under search. I have even installed the stick in another port on my computer & it is still not recognized.I have installed other USB sticks in the same port on my computer & they work fine, I can even download onto them.
When i connect the first USB Stick (1 GB Kingston) everything it's ok, it shows up in Explorer, but when i try to connect the other one (i have two) it wont show up, but i can access it if i just type the drive letter in the address bar (J:).Also if i try to connect my phone as a USB device or any other memory stick, same problem...not showing up in Computer window.
i bought a flashdrive and i think i have been duped, it became write protected but i was never able to put much on it, how can i take off the write protect so i can check to see if it is a fake
