HDD Failed Now Unable To Reinstall Applications And Games
Nov 1, 2011
Let me first accurately describe what happened. So one of my HDDs failed (I got a new one, a Western Digital Caviar Blue 640gb). I had lot's of applications and games installed on the failed HDD, but nothing important. Now, when I go to re-install those games/apps again, some of them act as if they were installed, and attempt to uninstall (the hard drive failed so it was unable to uninstall the correct way). So, it will not let me re-install those programs, until I uninstall them. They are unable to uninstall because they cannot find "Drive D:," which is the failed drive, and they are probably still somewhere in my computer's registry, but the install directories are gone with the failed drive. How to reinstall my programs again. I am on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.
My "w,a,s,d,e,spacebar" are not working in Games or applications.I recently used the program joytokey, which I had assigned these keys to a controller. After noticing the problem I deleted joytokey, and the problem still happens.
My Win7 won't let me run certain applications or .exe files, mainly games. Some it does and some it doesn't for no apparent reason. I've got 3 HDDs (2 int, 1 ext) and I've tried running it from all three and still nothing. The same thing happens everytime, I try to run it, the loading icon appears and then nothing. No error message and no apparent cause. My hardware can take it, I've got the correct DX and nothing.I've tried running it as an admin to no avail and I've tried running it in safe mode. When this happened the application loaded but said I needed to get DX 9.0 (Which I have) and enable hardware acceleration (which it is).
i use my old nvidia geforce 9600gt card and i am currently making it run with win vista sp1 x86 ultimate.with the superb reviews of windows7 floating,i am thinking of upgrading my OS to win 7.will i be able to run all my older applications and games requiring dx9 and dx10 on a dx11 based OS?...and will my GPU support dx11(since me not knowing the backward compatibilty)
My PC had a single hard drive with 300Gig. (I will refer to it as original HD64) Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit installed. Worked fine for a year or two. Eventually started crashing randomly, attempted lots of fixes but was reliably informed that it could be my hard drive. I decided I would be best with a new HDD and a fresh install. Bought a new hard drive. 250Gig (Will refer to it as new HD32). Unplugged originalHD64 from sata cable and power. Plugged in newHD32 into sata cable.
Inserted bootable USB flash drive with windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit on it. Went through full install including partition creation etc. Install crashed part way through but I think the dog knocked the power lead. Restarted install. Everything seemed to install fine. Plugged in original HD64 into second sata slot. Changed boot priority to New HD32. Booted fine.
Clicked on >Computer and found new HD32 as C: drive and Old HD64 as D: as I wanted it to be.
So far so good. But on next boot the CHKDSK thing ran. Then it booted ok. CHKDSK ran on next boot also. Then I managed too boot normally but realised there were a couple of things not working properly in the fresh install. Things like Windows Picture viewer would not open anything at all and a couple of other issues. And it was especially annoying that CHKDSK kept running. I asked for advice and was told that I should probably just format the new HD32 and resintall from fresh incase the install had somehow gone wrong.
So, I changed the boot order to Old HD64 and logged into my old windows OS which I had left installed in case anything went wrong. From there I navigated to disk management and formatted and repartitioned the NEW HD32 disk. Now I unplugged Old HD64. Plugged in bootable USB flash drive and tried to follow the exact same steps as I followed last time. But instead of going through the windows install I just get ... "The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible" (and some other text viewable in the following link).
Here is an example image of the screen I get... The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible error 0xc000000f on HP Notebooks - Tricks Guide
So I reboot. Press F8 to select boot device. Choose USB flash drive.
I have unplugged the New HD32 and plugged in the old HD64 and done the same thing just to test if its a HD issue but I get the same problem.
I am using a Windows 7 64-bit laptop. I have been facing this problem for quite some time now, but did not bother to solve it. When I click on some of my programs and stuff, they do not start up, but instead the black command box pops up briefly and disappears, and nothing else happens. This has occurred on several programs only, though I forgot most of them, one of them is CCleaner.exe . I managed to solve that by troubleshooting compatibility, and running it on Windows' recommended settings. Alot more of the other programs which failed to start up before, e.g. Windows Live Messenger, started up after I troubleshooted compatibility. However, recently I decided to defragment my hard drive (after a long time of not doing so), and after I clicked on the "Analyze Disk" button, or the "Defragment disk" option, the black box appears briefly, and disappears, and nothing happens again.
I was unable to launch .exe applications that relied on the MSI installer. The solution was to go to services and start the 'windows installer service'...doing this fixed some of the issues but apparently not all of them. I still can't run Fireworks or AvastUI.exe and other apps such as Upgrade Advisor. Heck, I can't even run certain windows updates. I have a HP desktop running Windows 7 x64 Home Premium. I know for a fact that there are no mal/ad/spyware on my computer.
I have ran Trojan Remover and removed all the junk that I'm sure caused the problem in the first place. Here are some windows provided solutions I have tried: I have ran all MS 'Fix-It' apps, uninstalled reinstalled my apps, went to command line ran 'msiexec /regserver'. I know windows installer is installed but its corrupted for sure. My last resort is to wipe out the OS and reinstall it.
Earlier today, my computer is not working properly since i started it up.An error would show everytime a programs try to start. It would show " The application was unable to start correctly (0xc00000b5). " everytime i try to start google chrome. Other programs like games also creates error, some with different error codes like (0xc0000185).Steam has creates a different error which says " Steam.exe(main exception): Unable to load library SteamUI.dll, Win32 Error 121 "The semaphore timeout period has expired."However, some programs like internet explorer, photoshop and microsoft office would work, which i suspect is because they are 64bit softwares.
I'm having such a huge problem right now. I don't know what to do... I'm using windows 7 64 bit and when i play my games the game would litterally skip... kind of like having frame skip on the highest then playing a game.. Also, windows media player would either do one of the following:1. video skips and no audio plays2. Server execution failed3. The video will play for like 5 seconds then says it cant play the file..Also when i try to run the windows experience index it will get the video decoding and it will say that it can't complete it for some reason. I've tried reinstalling windows and it just kept happeningI've tried doing everything to repair WMP and then it would work until i reboot again. even when i dont repair it i have to reboot then it would be fine.
My Windows started causing me problems and it was unable to boot. But when I decided to reinstall it, the setup showed me that I have no partitions on my hard drive. After that I started Partition Wizard Bootable CD and it showed that my two local drives (C: and D: ) were still there with all files on them, but they had letters like "*". What can I do to fix this problem and reinstall my OS?
Currently no OS is installed. Everytime I try to reinstall Windows 7, the partition is currently unallocatted, I clicked on new & wait a little while & then dissapears & says "No device drivers found". I even tried loading drivers & that didn't help.
i wanted to reinstall my pc ( something's dident feel right on my pc ) so i copy'd most of my needed stuff, after that i insert my disc which i got from buying this pc ( Microsoft windows 7 home premium 64 bit disc).after the first part ( can't remember when u re-install windows u got a few things listed ( first thing was 100%, then second thing went to 60% and then i had a error) something about " u need internet blahblah" try again. So i tried again but then the part that ( i can't seem to fix) started to being a problem.
" $WINDOWS.~BT " this file i can't open, can't delete and also can't chainge acces to this map , but i can rename it ( getting this error when trying to do the above -" foutcode 0x80070091 "
- I renamed the file and tried to reinstal but then i had the error when ' trying to copy temperary files ' the error told me he can't continieu becouse it can't delete the current file about it.
- i tried chkdsk but it only shows i get error, not what i shoud do against it.( also the window to fast to read the 1 line which starts whit ' fault....'
- also tried f2 when setup, i tried safe mode, also tried starting my pc from the discs on so the windows itself+programs wont start before the disc. i can't reinstal, i can't delete that file, the only thing to do is take it to the shop
I have tried reinstalling my windows 7 onto my SSD and am having no luck. I believe I have went through most guides / troubleshooting I could find on this website as well as others. After attempting to use my original cd with no luck, I followed the steps only to have the cd go no further than 73% of the step after "copying windows files". I then burnt / mounted, whatever you'd like to call it (properly) my Win 7 to my Thumb drive and at first windows said BOOTGR is missing.
So than I read to put in the cd, repair it using a command prompt "bootrec /fixboot" which it replied successful. After which I reinserted the flash-drive only to get the same error. I have tried partitioning, "clean all" (not in that order), multiple cds, thumb drives, my friends window 7 cd for giggles to see if I would have any luck, removing a stick of ram, all usb items but the kb/m. Desperate after literally 8 hours of working on this I tried my old copy of windows xp which gave me a blue screen of sorts.
Upon turning on the computer, the recovery console loads - because windows will not boot.
Performed system dianogtic check - everything looks good. Performed a system recovery successful but computer will not boot. Performed a reset to factory settings successfully, but computer will not boot. performed a command prompt reset - as was listed in another topic.
I upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7. I was using Office 2007 on XP and when I went to reinstall it on Windows 7, it cannot find the earlier version to upgrade. I had upgraded from an earlier version of Office and I only have the upgrade office disk.
How do I reinstall Office Standard 2007 upgrade on Windows 7?
I have a Samsung netbook (n145) which has had a few issues starting up over the past couple months - it would prompt to run chkdsk before booting, I would let it run, and it would boot. However, yesterday I got the 'windows failed to start - a recent hardware change may be responsible' error message, and giving the option to try starting windows normally (which fails: there is a flash of BSOD and then screen goes black, and computer restarts, arriving at same 'failed to start' error). The other option is to run system repair, which also does not work: it takes ages to bring up a dialog box that searches for errors, but I have let this run for hours and it remains stuck. Tapping f4 to bring up samsung recovery also results in a stuck screen. Tapping f8 to boot to safe mode does not work either.
My main concern is having a working computer, and I can't really afford costly repairs or a new netbook. I got this one used about 1 1/2 years ago and it has no cd drive/OS boot disk (windows 7 starter came already installed). What should I do? Can I fix the hard drive, or should I replace? I am not at all technically skilled and have limited knowledge but an endless capacity to learn. I called samsung and they suggested I replace the hard drive to the tune of $100-$300 for parts alone, which is too expensive for a $100 netbook.
Im trying to play an old game on my new laptop.. the os is windows 7 and it says that l cant play the game becaus of the 62 bit.. I know you can change this but is it easy to do and if so how
i resently had my laptop reinstald from vista to windows 7 (my C was full and i had nothing instald on it, its just up-dates, so it was needed)the problem now is, before if some games dont work as the sims 3, i just opend the system en opend the advanged to add the sims in a list that DEP allows it
but for some reason i cannot do that now, the text below command about needing to be admin (wich as only user on the lap i am), and run the BCSEDIT.exe.i run it (even as admin) but it the problem keeps going on.i noticed some ways to turn the DEP off on this site, but that seems a bit extreem (as that people most of the time warn that its not the best option)
I am trying to play some games, but I can't because of this problem. I only have 64mb dedicated video memory, when in fact, I have 1696mb graphics memory. Also, there is a combined graphics card, one worse than the other, and I always seem to be suing the worse one, whne i want to use the better one. BTW, I am using an ASUS.
I am unable to open "Computer", "Control Panel", "Devices and Printers" or any of the other options when I click on the start icon in the task bar. I receive the error message "Server execution failed" I have Windows 7 operating system.
I upgraded to a new compaq laptop last year with windows 7 installed, and now i'm unable to play my old dos games and its giving me this error message when i try to play :
The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.
I have dos box and it's still not working!! I would of assumed windows 7 would of had a program installed that would automatically allow you to play these games? What do i need to do? I'm not always keen or too confident at changing my computers settings is there a laymans guide at all?
I have 2 computers a desk top with Windows XP a new Sony laptop with Windows 7 Try as I might I cant get past the Play button when I go to the [URL] site All I get is blank page when I click on the Play button?
I recently had a problem with my games (found in the thread here) that involved the games lagging badly. It turned out to be an image settings preference that I hadn't set properly. In my attempt to fix the problem however I did a clean install of drivers and updated to v301.42.
Since I installed the new driver none of my games would start (NBA 2K12, Assassin's Creed, Skyrim etc.) and simply go to a black windowed screen. Skyrim tells me that 'Your display doesn't support the selected resolution'. However, I am using the native resolution (1680x1050) for my monitor.
Am on Windows 7, and reinstalled it couple of times before, although it works probably, but games dont work, gives me crashAPP message, and even failed to install it. even play player dont play some files. am wondering is this is due to deleted Reg keys, and how can I restore deleted reg keys if I reinstalled windows. or reinstalling windows has the cure ?
i use a dell laptop and i cant be able to play any game even the OS games. it says directDraw acceleration, DirectD3 acceleration and AGP texture acceleration are not available. Ii also says hardware acceleration is disabled?
I'm unable to run windows normally thanks to the "BOOTMGR is missing" error. When I try to reinstall Windows 7, it hangs on the "Setup is starting..." screen. When I open the cmd.exe using SHIFT+F10, I am able to access all of my drives, except for the D: drive. When I attempt to execute any command on that drive, it does absolutely nothing except give me a blinking cursor on the next line. I've let it sit there for about an hour, and still nothing, along with the "Setup is starting..." screen.Even if I could get past the BOOTMGR screen, I would be stopped by a blue screen that says: UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME.
I am running Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium service pack 1,64 bit and having problems opening a downloaded file. The Wizard seems to download okay, it is when I attempt t open the file the problems start. The message appears stating:
"unable to execute files", "CreateProcess Failed -Code 740" "The requested Operation Requires Elevation"
I have tried closing Microsoft FireFox firewall And to run as administrator, even compatibility mode, but nothing works.I sometimes get a message:"Application Error"-"The Application was unable to start correctly (oxcoooooo5)
The autostart function is not working properly. When introduced a CD Rom into the drive, it has all the autostart functions for movies, pics, documents, but instead of starting the games directly, It allways ask me to open the file, movies or pics, but the game never starts automatically as It used to do in the past Windows versions, and in Windows 7 BEFORE SP1. It's imposible to play games that require the insertion of the disc into the CD Rom Drive, for the same reason.Im running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and have a LG Super Multi RwDVD +R DL Light scribe multirecorder.
ok so i have a problem thats been driving me insane. my toshiba F50 was working totally fine until suddenly during games my GPU started overheating quickly during games (Was not doing this before) i noticed that my fan didnt seem to be spinning as fast as before. i cleaned it still no avail, tried riva tuner and ntune and all of that jazz and all of them have the fan control options greyed out? (cannot use them)i noticed that when i start the laptop the POST test on the fans guns the fan to 100% speed so i know its capable of doing it. it seems like the fan doesnt know to speed up when it gets hot and it keeps shutting my system down and i reallllly dont feel like damaging my GPU. i tried rolling back my drivers and running the latest drivers.
