Windows 7 Won't Let Me Run Certain Applications Or .exe Files Mainly Games
Aug 10, 2012
My Win7 won't let me run certain applications or .exe files, mainly games. Some it does and some it doesn't for no apparent reason. I've got 3 HDDs (2 int, 1 ext) and I've tried running it from all three and still nothing. The same thing happens everytime, I try to run it, the loading icon appears and then nothing. No error message and no apparent cause. My hardware can take it, I've got the correct DX and nothing.I've tried running it as an admin to no avail and I've tried running it in safe mode. When this happened the application loaded but said I needed to get DX 9.0 (Which I have) and enable hardware acceleration (which it is).
My "w,a,s,d,e,spacebar" are not working in Games or applications.I recently used the program joytokey, which I had assigned these keys to a controller. After noticing the problem I deleted joytokey, and the problem still happens.
Let me first accurately describe what happened. So one of my HDDs failed (I got a new one, a Western Digital Caviar Blue 640gb). I had lot's of applications and games installed on the failed HDD, but nothing important. Now, when I go to re-install those games/apps again, some of them act as if they were installed, and attempt to uninstall (the hard drive failed so it was unable to uninstall the correct way). So, it will not let me re-install those programs, until I uninstall them. They are unable to uninstall because they cannot find "Drive D:," which is the failed drive, and they are probably still somewhere in my computer's registry, but the install directories are gone with the failed drive. How to reinstall my programs again. I am on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.
i use my old nvidia geforce 9600gt card and i am currently making it run with win vista sp1 x86 ultimate.with the superb reviews of windows7 floating,i am thinking of upgrading my OS to win 7.will i be able to run all my older applications and games requiring dx9 and dx10 on a dx11 based OS?...and will my GPU support dx11(since me not knowing the backward compatibilty)
i use window 7 home premium Gateway laptop NV52. yesterday, i opened file location on an icon on destop and on that interface, i tampered with the "open with" and my entire applications and files on windows changed. any of the "open with" options like window media, paint, picture viewer, adobe etc entirely changes my applications and files. even window files were affected. if i try opening a file, it will show me adobe reader or any few mentioned above cannot open this file. i tried using system restore and program access default on control panel but to no avail. so folders on my control panel attempts opening with any of the choosen file above. my exe. files cant open.
the files that require any sort of video won't work on my windows 7 pc. i'm trying to play some pc games and they simply don't load. video files on my computer only play audio. if i stream any video from websites such as Internet, the flash player becomes unresponsive. i've updated my video card driver.
some specs: windows 7 -64 bit intel i7 930 radeon hd 5800 series
I am attempting to install the Pokemon trading card game onto my computer. The installer does lead me to another place to download it, but they say for it to work it must be downloaded into program files (x86). So I attempted to download it there, but it says that I do not have permission to do so. I am the only administrator, so I do not know why this could be happening.
I was wondering this because i have an ssd for my boot, and a hdd for my storage. i am installing borderlands 2 on the hdd and i need to get to the program files. are they on the one on the c drive or where else? I am wondering because last time i looked i didnt see them there

I get BSOD sometimes when playing Battlefield 3, sometimes I don't get it. I also get BSOD when transferring large files from external hard drives or from my internal network.
Windows 7 won't allow me to retrieve my saved games from my " documents/my games/oblivion" Says it cant find the codec. What codec is that? Did search on codec and it appears I don't have any.
Does anyone know if running 32 bit applications on the 64 bit edition of windows 7 will impact performance. My new laptop is consistently slow and unresponsive yet the task manager shows memory usage of just over 50% (2.1Gigs out of 4Gigs) and the CPU usage is minimal (like 20->30%). One thing I do notice on the resource manager though is that a significant number of the processes running are post-fixed with *32 which I believes indicates that they are 32 bit applications. Could this explain why my machine is so slow? Or should there be no significant overhead to running 32 bit applications? Also, if there is a significant overhead why does it not show up as increased memory/CPU usage rather than just making the machine unresponsive and slow?
The autostart function is not working properly. When introduced a CD Rom into the drive, it has all the autostart functions for movies, pics, documents, but instead of starting the games directly, It allways ask me to open the file, movies or pics, but the game never starts automatically as It used to do in the past Windows versions, and in Windows 7 BEFORE SP1. It's imposible to play games that require the insertion of the disc into the CD Rom Drive, for the same reason.Im running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and have a LG Super Multi RwDVD +R DL Light scribe multirecorder.
I cannot open many applications in Windows 7 including Firefox, MS Word, and Excel. Some that do open will freeze during use. I suspect that a virus or malware could be causing these problems. The applications open in Windows Safe Mode okay. Here's the Hijackthis and DDS log:

I am experiencing a strange problem with my Windows 7 for last 2-3 weeks. When I use any application, suddenly Help Windows for application will pop up and it will not go away. If I try to close it, it opens again. This problem is spread across applications. Help Windows come up for SQL server, Microsoft Word and IE. Sometimes Help Windows won't let me do anything and I have to restart. It was only annoying till now but this problem seems to be spreading.I have checked F1 key and it is not stuck. Problem seems to be happening since I installed SQL server 2008 R2 around a month ago. I have Lenovo G450 with Windows 7 ( 64 bit ) installed.
I have a mystery I need to solve. I updated an Access application on a Network share. Users have a shortcut on their desktops pointing to the application as follows: Target: \Chtg02PublicGeneralReports and statsWTGReportsWTG_General.accdb All WinXP users see the updated application when they double click the shortcut, one Win7 user gets the previous version of the application when he double clicks the same shortcut. Questions: 1. Is Win7 caching the application? Where? 2. If 1. is yes, how do I refresh the cache manually?
For example, if I'm typing in Word, randomly the Word application/window will get unselected, as if I clicked something else. I won't be able to type anymore until I click the Word window again, it's pretty annoying too since I'm a fast typer. And this happens with everything. Games, browsers, etc. I've also noticed when I have something fullscreened, like a video or a game, after a few minutes the start bar at the bottom of my screen pops up, and I'm assuming whatever was fullscreened got "unselected," and that's why the menu bar pops up. I have McAfee (I'm about ready to uninstall it), and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, and I've checked my computer many times but nothing has come up. This has been happening for over a month and I've just about had it.
Some applications wont install on Win7 eg; Glary Utilities, Iolo System Mechanic 10.1.2 update,Malwarebytes Anti-malware plus some others i cant remember. As soon as the installation gets to Extracting files the progress bar stops and the entire system freezes neccessitating a hard reboot. Other progams install without a problem?
I have used 64 bit version of Windows 7 to test the shortcuts, screenshots are included to give you a visual impression.Firstly, use [Windows key] and [R] to invoke the run command box:
1) Character Map = charmap.exe very useful for finding unusual characters.
The same version of the software (winrar) is installed on both, my XP and Win 7 computers. The look (menus etc) is completely different. Here are the screen shots: Click on the pictures to see the full size

As you can see the version is exactly the same. What do I have to do to make the application in Windows 7 have the same look like in XP?
I have a lot of programs loaded on my older HP Media center with XP I want to move to new computer with windows 7, How can I move my applications over without havin to reload all the disks. I have many programs on the old system
I can't finish typing a page in using WORD GOOGLE or any other application without losing the whole text.Computer Windows 7. has all available memory installed
I've a Windows 7 OS and is configured to 64 bit. See status below:C:UsersRatish>echo %programfiles% C:Program FilesSo, I think my OS is running in 64 bit mode itself. I also checked the system configuration and it said 64 bit. But, when I try installing any application with x64 mode, it does not install and throws a message saying this is Win32 m/c. So, though my OS is in 64 bit, it allows only 32 bit applications to work. Any idea how resolve this?
ok so i have a problem thats been driving me insane. my toshiba F50 was working totally fine until suddenly during games my GPU started overheating quickly during games (Was not doing this before) i noticed that my fan didnt seem to be spinning as fast as before. i cleaned it still no avail, tried riva tuner and ntune and all of that jazz and all of them have the fan control options greyed out? (cannot use them)i noticed that when i start the laptop the POST test on the fans guns the fan to 100% speed so i know its capable of doing it. it seems like the fan doesnt know to speed up when it gets hot and it keeps shutting my system down and i reallllly dont feel like damaging my GPU. i tried rolling back my drivers and running the latest drivers.
I've searched around the internet but to no avail. Numerous Windows applications that come with the OS, such as Uninstall a Program, View Network Status, and so on will not start when I try to run them. For example, if I go into the Control Panel and select one of them, the Control Panel window freezes for a minute or two, nothing happens, and then it's back to normal again. The selected program does not start. I'm running a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. The only new things I've installed are drivers for the hardware, and Skype, and Chrome. The hardware itself is presumably not causing the problem, and it's a nice system so it's not some sort of lack of processing power that's causing it. I've already tried reinstalling the entire operating system. The user account I'm on is an administrator account. Some applications such as Device Manager work just fine.
Win 7 Back reads:Windows Backup won't back up the following items:Program files (files that define themselves as part of a program in the registry when the program is installed). Does that mean that the applications contained in the folder Program files will not be backed up ready for a restore when there is a system crash?I want to make a system image for restoring my operating system which will be located on C with applications.
