I have a mystery I need to solve. I updated an Access application on a Network share. Users have a shortcut on their desktops pointing to the application as follows: Target: \Chtg02PublicGeneralReports and statsWTGReportsWTG_General.accdb All WinXP users see the updated application when they double click the shortcut, one Win7 user gets the previous version of the application when he double clicks the same shortcut. Questions: 1. Is Win7 caching the application? Where? 2. If 1. is yes, how do I refresh the cache manually?
I recently purchased a 64GB Crucial M4 SSD and I'm trying to install Windows 7 with the Raid controller on a fresh HDD to meet the requirements for Intel's SRT. I'm trying to install Windows from a Mesh OEM disk but when it gets to the installation completion window an error pops up saying ''Windows setup could not configure windows on this computers hardware''.Windows installs fine under IDE/AHCI controller but that doesn't help me!
I need to turn off the hard drive caching I go to control panel, then hardware and sound, followed by device manager In device manager I double click on disk drives, right click on the hard drive which is C drive, select properties, then click on the policy tab I unchecked the "enable write caching on the device" When I click OK then I get the hour glass If I click on anything else then properties box goes to NOT RESPONDING I can not close it, even with task manager, it does not close I restarted the computer and nothing came up I had to put the windows 7 disk in and reboot, try to repair it but it did not work using the disk I was able to restore from a restore point and get the system running. but still have the same problem trying to turn off caching?
I'm working on a project where we've migrated our user base from Windows XP to Windows 7 Enterprise. They're using Office 2010 Pro. I'm seeing this issue with only one specific user, and not really sure where to start with his troubleshooting. Have read through some forums, but doesn't seem to be a prevalent issue. We've migrated his .NK2 file and most of his email cache is working. As he begins to type the address, it drops down with suggested emails. However, there are two specific addresses in the GAL which will not cache. I had him manually click on the 'To...' button in a new message, search the GAL for the user, click 'To...' once again in the bottom left of the address book to add the address to the message, click okay, and send the message. Normally this would be more than enough to get it to cache, but no such luck.
i was having frequent bsod..in that i saw a suggestion to disable thes..so how to disable bios memory options like caching and shadowing..i am having dell studio 1558 laptop with 04dknr motherboard
1. WD Caviar Blue 500GB (OS Drive) 2. WD Caviar Green 1TB
I've read that enabling write-caching may speed up drive performance. I checked on my 1TB drive, it was already enabled. On my 500GB drive though it was disabled. So I then decided to enable write-caching on my 500GB drive. I proceeded to do so without any apparent problems. However after doing a system restart I saw that it went back to being disabled again.I've tried this several times already, same thing each time!Enable write caching restart write caching disabled again.
My problem is slow usb transfer rate - at first it start off real good (70-80 mb/s then within 10 sec it drops down to 3 and even 1 mb/s). 1.5 mb file gets into my flash drive in 10 min or so. Now I've formatted flash drives, no change. Write-caching enabled, "best performance" for flash drives enabled... Tried on a Lap-Top - transfer rate is not so high, but stable all the time - 15-12 mb/s. Remote Differential Compression disabled. Transfer rate within the hard drives in my computer is OK (I got 2). I don't know if it's the Windows 7 problem or the motherboard problem or hard drives config problem.
Here is my info: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit HDD's: Samsung 500bg and ST 320 bg, both 16 mb 7200 mobo - GA-770T-D3L, v.1. RAM - 8gb Phenom IIx6
Does anyone know if running 32 bit applications on the 64 bit edition of windows 7 will impact performance. My new laptop is consistently slow and unresponsive yet the task manager shows memory usage of just over 50% (2.1Gigs out of 4Gigs) and the CPU usage is minimal (like 20->30%). One thing I do notice on the resource manager though is that a significant number of the processes running are post-fixed with *32 which I believes indicates that they are 32 bit applications. Could this explain why my machine is so slow? Or should there be no significant overhead to running 32 bit applications? Also, if there is a significant overhead why does it not show up as increased memory/CPU usage rather than just making the machine unresponsive and slow?
I cannot open many applications in Windows 7 including Firefox, MS Word, and Excel. Some that do open will freeze during use. I suspect that a virus or malware could be causing these problems. The applications open in Windows Safe Mode okay. Here's the Hijackthis and DDS log:
Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.4 Scan saved at 11:38:51 AM, on 08/01/11 Platform: Windows 7 SP1 (WinNT 6.00.3505) MSIE: Internet Explorer v9.00 (9.00.8112.16421) Boot mode: Safe mode with network support
I am experiencing a strange problem with my Windows 7 for last 2-3 weeks. When I use any application, suddenly Help Windows for application will pop up and it will not go away. If I try to close it, it opens again. This problem is spread across applications. Help Windows come up for SQL server, Microsoft Word and IE. Sometimes Help Windows won't let me do anything and I have to restart. It was only annoying till now but this problem seems to be spreading.I have checked F1 key and it is not stuck. Problem seems to be happening since I installed SQL server 2008 R2 around a month ago. I have Lenovo G450 with Windows 7 ( 64 bit ) installed.
For example, if I'm typing in Word, randomly the Word application/window will get unselected, as if I clicked something else. I won't be able to type anymore until I click the Word window again, it's pretty annoying too since I'm a fast typer. And this happens with everything. Games, browsers, etc. I've also noticed when I have something fullscreened, like a video or a game, after a few minutes the start bar at the bottom of my screen pops up, and I'm assuming whatever was fullscreened got "unselected," and that's why the menu bar pops up. I have McAfee (I'm about ready to uninstall it), and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, and I've checked my computer many times but nothing has come up. This has been happening for over a month and I've just about had it.
Some applications wont install on Win7 eg; Glary Utilities, Iolo System Mechanic 10.1.2 update,Malwarebytes Anti-malware plus some others i cant remember. As soon as the installation gets to Extracting files the progress bar stops and the entire system freezes neccessitating a hard reboot. Other progams install without a problem?
I have used 64 bit version of Windows 7 to test the shortcuts, screenshots are included to give you a visual impression.Firstly, use [Windows key] and [R] to invoke the run command box:
1) Character Map = charmap.exe very useful for finding unusual characters.
The same version of the software (winrar) is installed on both, my XP and Win 7 computers. The look (menus etc) is completely different. Here are the screen shots: Click on the pictures to see the full size

As you can see the version is exactly the same. What do I have to do to make the application in Windows 7 have the same look like in XP?
I have a lot of programs loaded on my older HP Media center with XP I want to move to new computer with windows 7, How can I move my applications over without havin to reload all the disks. I have many programs on the old system
I can't finish typing a page in using WORD GOOGLE or any other application without losing the whole text.Computer Windows 7. has all available memory installed
I've a Windows 7 OS and is configured to 64 bit. See status below:C:UsersRatish>echo %programfiles% C:Program FilesSo, I think my OS is running in 64 bit mode itself. I also checked the system configuration and it said 64 bit. But, when I try installing any application with x64 mode, it does not install and throws a message saying this is Win32 m/c. So, though my OS is in 64 bit, it allows only 32 bit applications to work. Any idea how resolve this?
I've searched around the internet but to no avail. Numerous Windows applications that come with the OS, such as Uninstall a Program, View Network Status, and so on will not start when I try to run them. For example, if I go into the Control Panel and select one of them, the Control Panel window freezes for a minute or two, nothing happens, and then it's back to normal again. The selected program does not start. I'm running a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. The only new things I've installed are drivers for the hardware, and Skype, and Chrome. The hardware itself is presumably not causing the problem, and it's a nice system so it's not some sort of lack of processing power that's causing it. I've already tried reinstalling the entire operating system. The user account I'm on is an administrator account. Some applications such as Device Manager work just fine.
Win 7 Back reads:Windows Backup won't back up the following items:Program files (files that define themselves as part of a program in the registry when the program is installed). Does that mean that the applications contained in the folder Program files will not be backed up ready for a restore when there is a system crash?I want to make a system image for restoring my operating system which will be located on C with applications.
I'm using Windows 7 x64. I have placed the taskbar on top. I've noticed many applications will open at the top with the titlebar underneath the taskbar. This is extremely annoying and incredibly dumbfounding how Microsoft released Windows with this bug.
I have a HP PSC 3550 connected to my Mac and I have successfully added this printer to Windows 7.
I am able to print a test page from Windows 7. I am able to print from Openoffice. However, I cannot print from Wordpad or Notepad.
This is the event log entry:
The document Untitled - Notepad, owned by Mark, failed to print on printer \MACS-COMPUTERHP PSC 2350 series. Try to print the document again, or restart the print spooler. Data type: NT EMF 1.008. Size of the spool file in bytes: 1184. Number of bytes printed: 0. Total number of pages in the document: 1. Number of pages printed: 0. Client computer: \SEGO. Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 0. The operation completed successfully.
Note that if I connect the printer directly to my Windows 7 machine I can print from Wordpad and Notepad.
I have an older PC with Windows 7 and XP dual boot on a 640GB HD. Recently built a new quad core PC and installed Windows 7 on a 60GB SSD. There is also a new 640GB HD for applications and data.
Spent quite a bit of time searching for the best method of transferring the applications and data setting from the old PC with single HD to the new PC's with SSD and HD. PCMove and True Image are mentioned as options but not sure how they can handle 2 destination drives. I dread the thought of adding each application one by one.
I have a dell 545s when i have certain applications open i get a message from windows saying my computer performance is slow and when i'm using firefox i have a lot of tabs open the browser pauses when i click on an open tab and it freezes
My Win7 won't let me run certain applications or .exe files, mainly games. Some it does and some it doesn't for no apparent reason. I've got 3 HDDs (2 int, 1 ext) and I've tried running it from all three and still nothing. The same thing happens everytime, I try to run it, the loading icon appears and then nothing. No error message and no apparent cause. My hardware can take it, I've got the correct DX and nothing.I've tried running it as an admin to no avail and I've tried running it in safe mode. When this happened the application loaded but said I needed to get DX 9.0 (Which I have) and enable hardware acceleration (which it is).
