View 4 RepliesI am using an Acer Aspire 5738G, which originally came with Windows Vista Home Premium. Later I got the free Windows 7 Home Premium update disc and never encountered any problem.
But since the last 1 month or so, I've been getting this 'Windows not genuine' message on a random basis. Microsoft Security Essentials says that it will disable itself within 30 days if the issue is not resolved. When I click on 'Resolve issue', an IE window is opened and takes me to Microsoft's website. When I do all the steps explained, everything goes back to normal and my Windows is again considered as genuine.
I am running Win 7 Pro, OEM that came with my Dell. All of a sudden I am getting a "Not a Genuine Windows" error.Windows is genuine as it's the original installation from Dell with all the updates. I called Dell who tried some stuff and couldn't remedy the problem (we did the uninstall and reinstall the KB971033 update). Dell then told me to call Microsoft which I did.The tech at MS, after trying some things that did not work including accessing my computer remotely, told me we need to do a repair of Windows 7. He told me that I could not use the Dell reinstall disc but that I could use any Windows 7 retail disc. He said I "could not" use a retail upgrade disc, a real copy of which I have from another computer.thread on this forum under another topic said an upgrade disc is ok. So now I am confused. Can I use the retail upgrade disc to repair the installation or do I need to hunt down a non-upgrade Windows 7 installation disc?

A friend of mine had windows 7 ultimate OS and he gave it to me, I didn't no about the one computer rule so I though it was OK, after about three months of using it, it started displaying the "not genuine' warningNow I want to buy genuine windows 7 ultimate and this is wI don't have the windows 7 home basic software but I have the the licence key, can I just buy the windows 7 ultimate upgrade pack? An advisor at Microsoft told me that there is away they can go around that, without me having the windows 7 home basic software.

View 5 Replies View RelatedReceived above cheerio about a week ago ignored it and carried on as I knew my version was indeed genuine have had it for three years. 2 days ago, after normal start up,the screen went blank actually black , and the only thing showing is the above message again ,with the notation " Build 7601 " Unable to get any thing to come up at all except " Task Master " reference which proved to be useless. So made the call to Microsoft in Manila, and was able to convince them that my item was " genuine " however they then left me "in the lurch " saying I need to get in a tech guy, as the MS guy could not guide me out of my black screen situation, tho he gave me several ideas to try and pull up the "Start " button and get back in,So any ideas how I can get myself back to " Square One " ?? let MS know I am not impressed -- they cause the problem , in my opinion.

I would like to keep this version of windows, actually I dont care but I dont want to have to reinstall all of my software. Is there some way for me to pay for an activation code from Microsoft without having to reinstall windows and everything?

I got a problem since yesterday I get this message from Windows not being genuine. My computer is like 1 1/2 years old and I never had problems since now. I know that my copy of Windows Ultimate is genuine since I activated it by myself well but I sadly don't have the product key anymore since I can't find my installation box. Well I hope that the problem can be fixed without needing a product key.
View 2 Replies View RelatedA couple of days ago, my laptop which is a few months old, started showing the message on my desktop Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not Genuine" and was asked to validate my Windows. My Windows 7 was pre-installed by the manufacturer and I do not have a key to validate it? I have not had any issues with it so far. I have double checked for any malware etc, no viruses present.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been getting the "Windows not genuine" message popping up for several months on a 2 -year old home built system (I bought & activated a genuine copy of Windows 7). I've included the MGADiag report below. I've recently reactivated Windows using the Microsoft phone number but that didn't help. The lack of windows updates is now becoming a major problem!.I see in the report below there are several "tampered files".A Kaspersky virus/malware scan reports no problems. [code]

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been running Win7 Ultimate x64 on a new I7 Quad core system for just 1 month. Bought the system from a legitimate OEM with whom I've dealt for more than 9 years. Win 7 activated with no problems the day I rec'd the system. This morning, for the first time, I rec'd the message that my Win 7 version may not be genuine, and asking if I want to activate or pursue the issue.
Thinking the message may be a result of spyware (even though the system is well protected) I bypassed the message, and my desktop finally loaded without event. I then checked the control panel, which showed that I had a genuine activated copy of Win 7. Have all the current OS updates.
What's going on here? Obviously this message is spurious. Will it be a problem, and what caused it?
So I upgraded my asus p8z68-v lx bios recently to version 4003 and now my desktop is displaying the annoying messages. I also attached the other two HDDs to the SATA ports that were unplugged and might have moved some of the sata cables around in the process. I had this installed by a network admin and I'm pretty sure the windows 7 isn't a fake. It was all working fine until I decided to upgrade my bios and some drivers, then that showed up. Also I don't have a key for it.

had a virus last year with an underlying update problem. the virus got sorted but i was told the only way to sort the update was to reinstall windows. basically every time the laptop was turned off it was have to reinstall all the updates as they dont seem to save when it shuts off. i left it at the time as it was only 25 or so updates. it is now at over 90 updates and i am missing some security updates. when i try updating manually it comes up with code 80071A91-windows update encountered an unknown error.

Hi there, right now I have a non genuine version of Windows 7 Ultimate installed, I'm looking to replace it with a genuine copy of Windows 7 home premium. Could I do this with an upgrade disc or would I need to buy the whole OS? I'm trying to avoid paying 200$ to activate Ultimate.

I remember a few years back, when I used Windows XP, that driver updating was sort of troublesome -- sometimes you had to completely remove the older version of the driver to install the newer, and so on.
But.. once I installed Vista, I never really had to deal with that. My NVIDIA drivers always updated properly without uninstalling them first.
Now, I hear people still using programs that entirely erase all traces of a previous driver.. why do they still use those? I don't believe you have to use them anymore to update drivers..
If you install, for example, the latest NVIDIA driver -- the installer erases the previous driver from your system, then installs the new driver.
I think people are living in the past when I hear: "I'm uninstalling my current drivers right now, then I'm gonna run a sweeper to erase all traces of it. Then I have to reboot, and install the updated driver. Then reboot again."
I get a message that I cannot install Windows 7 uograge to my HP laptop which is running Vista. I get a messsage that files are missing but no explanation of what files are missing.

I've included a screenshot from the windows update error as well as the error I get when trying to run hijack this.
