When I open a folder (eg windows explorer), it will open then restart explorer.exe (ie it will close the window, the start menu disappears and then windows flashes up as if it has just logged on). Sometimes restarting sorts the issue but the problem remains.

After 1-2 seconds other programs that were running reappears but the folders have been closed. Is this normal? I ran full system scan with MSE, MBAM and Superantispyware. No virus or malware was found.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI am experiencing issues with explorer.exe (I found many reports on the web on this), not showing drives or control panel icons, or stop responding (win 7 32 bit Ult.) I set to open a separate process to explore windows and I got the chance to look for a better file manager and got Directory Opus and set it as the default file manager. (I use a Dell Precision notebook with certified hardware).
The explorer is still used for some windows, mainly control panel and device and printers. If the process stands there for a while, at some time, it will start to create issues. With a new 2nd explorer.exe is quite sure it will work. Checking the task manager I see that the 2nd explorer.exe waits for about 45 s to exit after the last windows close. The overall impact is quite reduced as I do not use explorer to browse files, but I would know if there is a place where I could set a shorter delay to close explorer.exe after the latest window closes.
Using Windows 7 RC1 I have noticed that fairly often when I minimize or close various windows they freeze partway through fading out. The system is still usable but those frozen windows stay on top for 5-15 seconds. The taskbar shows them as being closed yet they are faded into the background. I will try to get a screenshot later tonight but I am at work right now. All drivers installed OK automatically and the video card(s) are seen ok.
I wouldn't imagine it is a hardware problem.

Any thoughts? It's not a deal-breaker for using RC1 but it sure is annoying. Besides, RC1 fixed the beta issue where Winamp visualizations would freeze for 5 sec between song changes, which is a huge deal to me.
I'm just wondering if there's any way I can reduce the clutter of windows on my desktop when running applications.In the good old days of RISC-OS (Remember Acorn?) I could close a directory window automatically at the same time as double-clicking on a file icon to open a document. Quite often, when I've opened a document, there's no need to go back to the directory window it came from, so there's no point still having the window open in the background. (I can use the Start Menu>Recent list to reopen the file at a later date if need be, although I'm often working with downloaded files on a once-only basis, so there's no need.)I'm familiar with the Ctrl-DoubleClick technique in Windows Explorer to keep one directory open whilst opening a sub-directory, but is there a way of achieving my aim of closing the Explorer window automatically when opening a document?

Has anyone else encountered this, and what does it mean? From a Google search, it looks like Restart Manager had to restart Explorer for some reason. I can't figure out why, though.

From time to time at any old time of the day (randomly it seems in other words) I'll go in and try to arrange, rename, or get rid of files and I'll get "The action can't be completed because the file is open in Windows Explorer. View 1 Replies View Relatedhat am I doing wrong? The code stops after explorer.exe is restarted. I know this because the command prompt does not show the echo "-explorer restarted". When I look at the command prompt, the cursor seems to be on the next line, but without the normal C:UsersJohnSmith> in front of it (there is nothing in front of the cursor).
Also, if I include the command "exit" at the end of my .bat file, it doesn't seem to work. Even though if I type in exit into command prompt, the window closes.
restarting explorer.exe if taskbar icons vanish. But a big issue left me shunning to restart explorer.exe. I didn't know how it started but everything I restart windows explorer some of the icons disapeer, not all but some significant ones like Deskspace which is manageble only to right-click on the tskbar icon, and Ditto, a software that saves your Ctrl-C data for later which the pop-up selector is located on the taskbar icon, all the others are find but this all happens when I restart windows explorer. It's really annoying to log off and log back on just to config or use some of my most useful programs.

windows is checking for a solution to the problem. followed by another box stating windows explorer is restarting. But the requested application never starts. I have run the Ultimate Boot CD 4 Win, replaced the hard drive and cloned all data, run numerous registry scans, malware scans and antivirus scans. Initially removing over 1500 virus/malware hits and over 1400 registry errors. But the main problem persists, explorer.exe won't open programs.
Basically, all I want to be able to do is use the [ESC] button to close windows (ie Browsers,apps, games, anything that if selected and when a button is pressed will close it) in windows 7.
I always thought this would be good but is there anyway to make it do that from inside windows without some other software. If there isn't, then what other 3rd party programs can let me do this in Windows.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy computer is very unresponsive with hangs which can last up to several minutes where nothing is clickable, the mouse is movable, I can hover over desktop icons and see the outline register, but when I click, for example to open my computer, it will start the freezing.Task manager does not open, saying with an error message:"Failure to display security and shut down options The logon process was unable to display security and logon options when ctrl alt delete was pressed. If the operating system does not respond, press ESC or restart the computer by using the power switch."I checked performance monitor and there is no noticeable hardware issue, which makes me believe it's either the PSU or motherboard. I took out the ram one by one and tested the system and the same thing happens.My most likely guess is that the power supply is failing, and this is just early symptoms of that. I already had a power supply fail on this computer 2 years ago, but at that time it would shut the computer down unexpectedly.I removed viruses, spyware, and did all the basics. If I choose Force Shutdown, it warns me that I'll lose any unsaved data. In the past when I ran WinXP, I would only get this msg if I had an open file that I hadn't saved changes on. So as long as all my files were saved, I could have 10 programs open and Windows would shut them all down automatically when I shut down the computer. My work computer runs Win7, and it will do the same thing. View 4 Replies View RelatedIn Microsoft Outlook, if you open an email you've received and click on the "delete" icon, the email window just closes and takes you back to the main Outlook window. This is an option that you set in the preferences, but Windows Mail either doesn't have it or I just can't find it.
What happens in Windows Mail is that when you click on the delete icon, instead of closing the email and going back to the main window, it just goes to the next email.
Has anyone figured this one out?
I was trying to install the automatic win7 updates and in the 'important' update was ie9. I clicked on 'install updates' and windows started installing ie9. After a couple of seconds I got this window saying:: "Some files that need to be updated are currently being used by these programs. Please save your work, close the programs and then continue. If you can't close, setup can do it for you."

That's the list of programs that need to be closed. Obvious, I cancelled. Why do I need to close almost everything for installing a browser?
Is there any way to speed up the time it takes to close the preview window? By default, it takes about 1.5 seconds for the window to close after moving the mouse off of the icon or preview pane.Turning off taskbar animations in the "visual effects" does not shorten the time. It just takes away the animation, but, it still takes about 1.5 seconds for the preview to go away.
