Click start / Click shutdown / Shutdown process starts then hangs at a message "A program needs to close - Windows Logon". Let it set for a couple minutes and it may or may not complete the shutdown process. Sometimes I have to click the Forced button.Does not do this if restart is clicked.

I remote into my desktop at home from work sometimes and depending on applications, when I go for a reboot or shut the PC down, it hangs and I can't remote back in. A few days ago I waited 5 hours and had to go home to click "Force shutdown" on the prompt that Windows 7 had waiting for me.

I know the shutdown and logon screens use the same image, but is there a way to have the shutdown a custom image and the logon and black screen? If this isn't possible would anyone have any suggestions? View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two windows updates that keep failing. When i go to shutdown my computer I always have an update icon attached to the shutdown key. The download is always 1of1. Then when i reboot, the update icon is still there. I'm thinking since the two updates are failing, it has something to do with the 1of1 update not downloading properly. I went to windows update to check for new updates, and the only one is the two that keep failing. My computer just blue screened on shutdown today, winch got me thinking i really need to fix this.

Anyway while i was installing i got to the part where it said expanding windows files and gave a % or something. Anyway it got to 65% or so and i left the room and when i came back a minute later my computer was off. At first i thought it was probably restarting because i know that is suppose to happen. However when i waited a few minutes i realized it wasnt coming back on. So i tried to hit the power button to turn it on and i get NOTHING! What the heck happened, everything seemed it was running fine. My processor supports 64 bit and i have more than enough hardware to run it fine. I even did the adviser before hand and my system checked out.

Weird thing is, when I shut my computer down now, windows seems to shutdown, and I hear my Hard drives turnoff, but the fans and leds on the computer keep running for about 2 to 3 minutes before they shut off. Before with my old HDD, it would shutdown windows and the computer would shutdown immediately afterwards.
I'd like it to shutdown immediately again, I sit there waiting for it to turn off as I want to make sure I don't leave the fans running all night.

Every time I try to get administrative access, I type in the password and it says, "There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request." I'm able to sign in as the administrator, it's just when I need to gain administrative access that this error pops-up.

Ever since then the Boot and Shutdown times have increased to over 15 minutes. I have run the msconfig unticking all but the antivirus (Kaspersky) and it still takes >15 min to boot and Shutdown. Is there something I can do before I decide to reinstall Windows &. (I dont have a install disk.) The software came with the Computer and I have the OEM code (Bought at Best Buy)
