View 3 Replieswhen I shut down my machine, I'll go back a while later and it's still running. The screen will say that it's waiting for me to close Firefox. If I choose Force Shutdown, it warns me that I'll lose any unsaved data. In the past when I ran WinXP, I would only get this msg if I had an open file that I hadn't saved changes on. So as long as all my files were saved, I could have 10 programs open and Windows would shut them all down automatically when I shut down the computer. My work computer runs Win7, and it will do the same thing. I searched online and found a way to force shutdown, but will that shut down the computer even if I have an unsaved file in Word or Excel or whatever?

How do I get the screen to turn off without going into sleep or hibernate mode? I've tried messing around with the power options but nothing seems to work.

After a couple of seconds I got this window saying:: "Some files that need to be updated are currently being used by these programs. Please save your work, close the programs and then continue. If you can't close, setup can do it for you."

That's the list of programs that need to be closed. Obvious, I cancelled. Why do I need to close almost everything for installing a browser?
I use both Google Chrome and IE and with each at times tabs simply close--there are NO addons that are for bothI also notice this happening with Word I get no error messagesI have NOT added any 3d party programs when this startedI cannot discover one unique thing that happens to cause this, so I sense the problem must be with my OS

I initially had TrueCrypt encrypting the whole hard drive. The performance was incredibly slow, so 2 weeks ago, I decrypted the drive and completely restored (formatted) Windows, restoring the 2 original partitions. After the restoration, I re-installed Norton 360, Microsoft Office 2011, Google Chrome, Firefox and Spotify. I have not re-installed TrueCrypt. The computer is still painfully slow. It often crashes when performing simple tasks like web browsing. I am constantly reciving the following error message:Quote: Close programs to prevent information loss.Your computer is low on memory. View 1 Replies View Relatedi have problem with my laptop screen can't turn off automatically even how i change the setting or even download program to turn it off manually, the screen just turn off and on again, i have found that this problem is due to my graphic driver, i downloaded the latest driver correctly from nvidia site and can't install because of the driver can't found my graphic card which is the problem that face by alot of people, and with some days of searching,
i hav successfully installed the latest driver but without the control panel and all other software in the driver package, till now even with latest driver yet my screeen still cant auto turn off automatically by changing the power plan or other method. Anyone have anyway to solve this problem ?
My Laptop model is NEV Versa P9110, Graphic Card is 8400M GS, using Ver186.81 driver from Nvidia and without any feature from the driver package and also control panel, my installation is follow the explain of torrenttg which update driver by browsing the .inf file.
Latest NVidia drivers (not Beta) on Asus 8800 GT, Apple Cinema Display 23" monitor.
Frequently, when I open a program then close it, it will often leave a radio button on the screen. The button cannot be removed, moved, or clicked. The only way that I've cleared it was to change screen resolution, then revert back.
I am running Aero settings and themes. I have plenty of memory available and the computer runs fast enough with the bells and whistles running.
I'm guessing it's an issue with the driver and a newer driver may address it, but I guess it could be something else.
Anyone seen this or any ideas?
I'm using Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. I have my power options set to turn off the monitor after 20 minutes and the computer is not set to sleep or hibernate. When over 20 minutes has expired, the monitors do not turn off. On rare occasion they do, though (by 'they' I am referring to dual monitors).
I Googled this issue and tried disabling "Allow this device to wake the computer" on the properties page for that network device in device manager. This didn't work. What could be preventing my displays from automatically turning off? Note that during this time I have torrents running, so I'm not sure if it is indeed still the network connectivity that is causing this issue. I never had this kind of problem in Windows XP.
i've kept my laptop in hibernate mode and it turned on automatically why did this happen?

View 2 Replies View RelatedBasically, all I want to be able to do is use the [ESC] button to close windows (ie Browsers, apps, games, anything that if selected and when a button is pressed will close it) in windows 7.
I always thought this would be good but is there anyway to make it do that from inside windows without some other software. If there isn't, then what other 3rd party programs can let me do this in Windows.
I have searched, not as heavy as I think i should, but all i keep seeing in Visual Basic and C++ programing, something I'm not good at.
If anyone can help it would be cool. It doesn't have to be [esc] but i would prefer it.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIn Microsoft Outlook, if you open an email you've received and click on the "delete" icon, the email window just closes and takes you back to the main Outlook window. This is an option that you set in the preferences, but Windows Mail either doesn't have it or I just can't find it.
What happens in Windows Mail is that when you click on the delete icon, instead of closing the email and going back to the main window, it just goes to the next email.
Has anyone figured this one out?
Is there any way to speed up the time it takes to close the preview window? By default, it takes about 1.5 seconds for the window to close after moving the mouse off of the icon or preview pane.Turning off taskbar animations in the "visual effects" does not shorten the time. It just takes away the animation, but, it still takes about 1.5 seconds for the preview to go away.
