Programs Slow To Launch And Close And Hanging?
Oct 30, 2012
I have a HP-Pavilion WE225AA-ABU p6324uk with MSI IONA 1.0 M/B and 3.20 gigahertz Intel Core i5650, 32 kilobyte primary memory cache, 64-bit ready processor with 4gb RAM and 750gb HD, running Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) Service Pack 1 (build 7601) Up to about 4 weeks ago, it ran fine, nice and fast, then it started to take a long time to launch programmes, even longer to close them down, I often have to use Task Manager to close them and quite often I get programmes 'not responding' and hanging.

I have a Toshiba Satellite P755-S5320 with 6 GB of Ram and a Intel Core i3 - 2330M CPU @ 2.20 GHZ. However, it is very sluggish. To launch mozilla firefox, it takes a good 12 seconds, and to open other apps such as Word 2007 it takes about 15 seconds...why with a processor such as this is it this sluggish?

I've just been encountering a new problem. My computer just starts to hangup after just a few minutes of use. Programs lockup for minutes and even my mouse freezes for a few minutes at a time. I don't really know what could be causing it. No processes seem to be taking a lot of CPU usage, and there doesn't seem to be any suspicious processes either. Even as i type this, Google Chrome is freezing and unfreezing, but all my keystrokes are captured

Frequently programs hang, this seems to manifest itself mainly whilst using internet explorer, allthough sometimes in other programs such as word, suspect a virus , maybe downloaded when I inadvertently forgot to check for extra additions to a required download.

The problem I currently have is whenever I open close minimize or maximize a program, be it google chrome or World of Warcraft or even any MS Office program it starts slowly and minimizes slowly. I've been having this problem for about 5 days now and I have no clue how it arose. I am using Windows 7 x64 home premium. I am new to computer stuff with little knowledge of the lingo and processes of how anything really works. Also I found on these forums something that seemed familiar but there was no solution. Whenever I play Starcraft 2 It becomes choppy and slow moving. The start up screen for every game I play is in slowmotion.
I would like to add that browsing the internet and playing some games is perfectly fine after the initial slow moving start up. though it still closes and minimizes slowly.Another thing I would like to add that may be the cause to the problem. Whenever I start up my computer it is super slow. it takes the windows in starting or resuming icon forever to rotate and load.also after the 5-10 minutes I have to wait for it to finally get to the User selection screen. when i do select a user, the program Curse Client ( a program for World of Warcraft addons) doesn't work and gives me this message: An error has occurred while attempting to load a Microsoft .Net configuration file. this is often and indication of a corrupted .net installation. and it goes on to say; We recommend visiting Microsoft download Center to repair your .net installation. would you like to go there now?

I can't open any programs in Windows 7 from my HP laptop. I can't get online or launch .exe files. When I try to open anything, I get the spinning circle by the cursor but then nothing happens and it disappears. So it looks as though it's about to launch a program then doesn't. The IT guy at work told me to download Malwarebytes and run it but the same thing happens - I click on it and get the little spinning circle then it just goes away. And everything I read online says to download this program or that program but I can't even get online to do that. I've tried to do all of this in Safe Mode (Networking), also. Same thing - acts like it's about to launch then nothing.

My computer recently prompted me to do a virus scan and after rebooting, it erased all the files and programs on it. I read some posts stating to "unhide" all the folders in windows explorer to help the situation. That seemed to restore alot of programs, but I still can't launch certain programs off the Start Menu nor can I see their shortcut in Windows Explorer. I'm able to open files using those programs from Windows explorer, I just cant open the program itself from the Start Menu. The folders of those programs on the Start Menu say "empty" and no program is displayed.

I use both Google Chrome and IE and with each at times tabs simply close--there are NO addons that are for bothI also notice this happening with Word I get no error messagesI have NOT added any 3d party programs when this startedI cannot discover one unique thing that happens to cause this, so I sense the problem must be with my OS

First things first, here are the specs:OS: Windows 7 - CPU: Intel Core i3, 2330M, 2.2GHz - Memory: 4GB - HD: 500GB - Model: ASUS A54CI've had this computer for 6 months. I initially had TrueCrypt encrypting the whole hard drive. The performance was incredibly slow, so 2 weeks ago, I decrypted the drive and completely restored (formatted) Windows, restoring the 2 original partitions. After the restoration, I re-installed Norton 360, Microsoft Office 2011, Google Chrome, Firefox and Spotify. I have not re-installed TrueCrypt. The computer is still painfully slow. It often crashes when performing simple tasks like web browsing. I am constantly reciving the following error message:Quote: Close programs to prevent information loss.Your computer is low on memory. Save your files and close these programs:SpotifyDesktop Windows ManagerAsus Live Update

Latest NVidia drivers (not Beta) on Asus 8800 GT, Apple Cinema Display 23" monitor.
Frequently, when I open a program then close it, it will often leave a radio button on the screen. The button cannot be removed, moved, or clicked. The only way that I've cleared it was to change screen resolution, then revert back.
I am running Aero settings and themes. I have plenty of memory available and the computer runs fast enough with the bells and whistles running.
I'm guessing it's an issue with the driver and a newer driver may address it, but I guess it could be something else.
Anyone seen this or any ideas?

Running a brand new HP desktop machine. I've been using it for about a week with no problems ... until today. Certain programs are acting like they aren't launching, but at about 5-10 minutes later, they finally launch. Even the Recycle Bin took about 5 minutes to come up. However, Firefox launches immediately.

I was trying to install the automatic win7 updates and in the 'important' update was ie9. I clicked on 'install updates' and windows started installing ie9. After a couple of seconds I got this window saying:: "Some files that need to be updated are currently being used by these programs. Please save your work, close the programs and then continue. If you can't close, setup can do it for you."

That's the list of programs that need to be closed. Obvious, I cancelled. Why do I need to close almost everything for installing a browser?

Every time I start up normally into Win7 everything is fine for a couple of minutes. I'll open a few programs, then after a few minutes of them running they'll hang and enter the 'not responding' mode. (firefox, steam, IE). If I don't already have task manager running the system will basically be unresponsive and the only thing I can do is reboot manually. If I have task manager running I can sometimes end a process or two but some will remain open & unresponsive. Any programs that are working (including task manager) disappear when I minimize them and no programs appear on the task bar, (though they can be retrieved with alt+tab).
McAfee also has 'real time scanning' permanently disabled.
This is all very strange as there was nothing wrong four days ago when I was away, and the symptoms occured within 2-3 minutes of booting up this evening. The system runs in safe mode.

one of my co-workers wants me to get rid of some viruses and install office 2010 home and student on her computer with the key she bought. her computer runs windows 7 64-bit. after backing up her data, i finally ended up doing a factory reinstall from the backup partition. so i downloaded all windows updates and installed antivirus and firewall software. then i downloaded the office 2010 trial and tried to install it. it seems to begin installing without any problems. then a splash screen for powerpoint appears. it says that its "processing" and does that for about 20 minutes and then there is a balloon that pops up saying that office is downloading files. after all that happens, an error message appears that says something like "powerpoint cannot be opened. please try again later or repair this software in the control panel" with no sort of error code. i then tried repairing it from control panel which claims to complete successfully. so i restart and try to install again and the same thing happens all over again. if i try opening word, excel, powerpoint or onenote the splash screen appears and does the same thing that i described powerpoint was doing. ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. i also tried installing the 60 day trial for office 2007 that came preloaded with the computer and then installing office 2010 over it. same thing happened.

If I click on All Programs and then on C drive, it'll open up with a blank page and then a green bar starts moving slowly across the top. When it gets to the end, it just sits there.Pictures, Games and Music do the same thing. Games is blank and no green bar. The CPU, according to the meter, is running at about 1 or 2 %. Checking with Task Manager, nothing else is running. The only way to get it to work, is to Log Off and then Log back on. It'll be OK for a while and then does it again.

I upgraded Vista x64 Ultimate to Win 7 x64 Ultimate. The upgrade went fine - no major issues with the upgrade process. I am, though, having some small issues when running 7:
1. Outlook 2007 process remains open after closing Outlook.
2. Very slow closing certain programs/games.
3. Gadgets doesn't work.
4. Occasional empty folder pops up on taskbar that I can't close.
5. WEI for my SATA3 HD is 2.9 - 500GB Seagate
6. System shutdowns take forever
The system, overall, seems to be quite responsive but the problems I'm running into are somewhat frustrating.
Not sure if these have been addressed in other threads yet, as I'm still searching them. I'm guessing that part of it may be due to MB driver issues, but not sure - running an EVGA 780i MB.

It was all fine until yesterday. I copied over a game from my laptop the night before (I just installed 7 on this computer recently, was copying over stuff from my laptop) and also finished installing World of Warcraft and not long after I turned off the computer.
The next day I switched it on and didn't notice anything at first but some programs wouldn't run (Winamp would have a blank space where the music list normally is).
I tried installing some virtual drive programs such as magic disc and power iso which I usually use for isos I rip onto the computer (I lost some discs before so I've been doing that recently) but the magic disc programs wouldn't run properly and power iso wouldn't progress during its installation.
I tried installing some anti spyware like AVG and Avast (Spyware doctor detected 300 odd tracking cookies that appeared in the past week I installed, way more than it did with my vista laptop) but they would just either not respond (and then pop up with a message saying it took a while and wouldn't respond) or just not even progress when it was installing (on the part where it begins putting down files)
Explorer itself is slow and takes a while to load when on "My computer" and usually wouldn't display USB drives. Once it did but it didn't actually open it up when I clicked on it and prevented the window from responding.
I have used task manager to close all these down when they wouldn't.
When I tried switching off my computer it just stayed on the logging off/shutting down screen. I tried leaving it overnight, expecting it to finally switch off but it only ende up going into sleep mode (and popped up with the log in screen when I waked it up)
I have switched the computer off and on a few times but its still the same.
I also got the disc I used to install and tried to repair it but it wouldn't boot from the disc when I switched on the PC and when I opened it up and ran the setup file, it came up with the usual "are you sure you want to run this" dialog and didn't do anything.

The laptop is an i7 with 8GB of (some kind) ram, Win 7 64bit, etc.Boot and load times are not an issue, however with nearly any program, be it Excel or Photoshop, mouse inputs are beyond slow. I have to hover over a button for a second before it even highlights. It seems that if the programs are open for a little while that it is somewhat better, but still not acceptable for how new the computer is. CPU usage and memory usage are very low and no particular process seems to be hogging resources and causing the issue.I have formatted and completed a new install within the month, ran the computer with minimal programs installed, with all drivers and windows updates installed with no change. It's not a virus or any kind of malware. I have tried various sizes of virtual memory/ paging file with no change either. I've tried another set of memory modules with perhaps a slight improvement, but it could have been the placebo effect as well. My gaming rig I built works perfectly with none of this nonsense, but I can't figure it out aside from blaming it on something that HP has installed, or with its proprietary drivers that are causing some conflict.
