AVG stopped a program DWU.EXE from loading but since then I can not launch apps via the desktop or by directly clicking them unless I right click and load as admin. All virus scans (AVG, Windows malicious virus remover tool and Ad Aware) come out clean.Do not want to reload Win7 or restore if I don't have to
I'm running Windows 7 Utlimate 64bit, just started happening , when I click a folder or program on my desktop won't launch the program only will show in the THUMBNAIL TASKBAR on bottom and I can see the preview whats opened when I hoover over the program to launch as well NOTHING HAPPENS did I disable something I don't think
After the latest windows updates (9-22-12), now I cannot launch any program, including outlook, IE, norton or quicken. I can bring up an explorer window, copy and move files, and use the search funtion. I am out of ideas. System restore is useless.
I can't open any programs in Windows 7 from my HP laptop. I can't get online or launch .exe files. When I try to open anything, I get the spinning circle by the cursor but then nothing happens and it disappears. So it looks as though it's about to launch a program then doesn't. The IT guy at work told me to download Malwarebytes and run it but the same thing happens - I click on it and get the little spinning circle then it just goes away. And everything I read online says to download this program or that program but I can't even get online to do that. I've tried to do all of this in Safe Mode (Networking), also. Same thing - acts like it's about to launch then nothing.
My computer recently prompted me to do a virus scan and after rebooting, it erased all the files and programs on it. I read some posts stating to "unhide" all the folders in windows explorer to help the situation. That seemed to restore alot of programs, but I still can't launch certain programs off the Start Menu nor can I see their shortcut in Windows Explorer. I'm able to open files using those programs from Windows explorer, I just cant open the program itself from the Start Menu. The folders of those programs on the Start Menu say "empty" and no program is displayed.
Ok, so i have a few questions. instead of making thread for each. i am posting them hear.
1. like the title says, i want to know how to create one shortcut to launch multiple programs( Two or three programs at once)?
2. My second question is, is there a way that i pin a folder on taskbar and when click on that icon.it expand( only icons and their name in small space) like a fan( pop in and out). just like the Rocketdoc.?
3. And at last. how can i prevent a program from appearing in taskbar. like i have installed a skin for WMP and i like it to stay on the desktop.
I have a HP-Pavilion WE225AA-ABU p6324uk with MSI IONA 1.0 M/B and 3.20 gigahertz Intel Core i5650, 32 kilobyte primary memory cache, 64-bit ready processor with 4gb RAM and 750gb HD, running Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) Service Pack 1 (build 7601) Up to about 4 weeks ago, it ran fine, nice and fast, then it started to take a long time to launch programmes, even longer to close them down, I often have to use Task Manager to close them and quite often I get programmes 'not responding' and hanging.
I have a Toshiba Satellite P755-S5320 with 6 GB of Ram and a Intel Core i3 - 2330M CPU @ 2.20 GHZ. However, it is very sluggish. To launch mozilla firefox, it takes a good 12 seconds, and to open other apps such as Word 2007 it takes about 15 seconds...why with a processor such as this is it this sluggish?
Running a brand new HP desktop machine. I've been using it for about a week with no problems ... until today. Certain programs are acting like they aren't launching, but at about 5-10 minutes later, they finally launch. Even the Recycle Bin took about 5 minutes to come up. However, Firefox launches immediately.

one of my co-workers wants me to get rid of some viruses and install office 2010 home and student on her computer with the key she bought. her computer runs windows 7 64-bit. after backing up her data, i finally ended up doing a factory reinstall from the backup partition. so i downloaded all windows updates and installed antivirus and firewall software. then i downloaded the office 2010 trial and tried to install it. it seems to begin installing without any problems. then a splash screen for powerpoint appears. it says that its "processing" and does that for about 20 minutes and then there is a balloon that pops up saying that office is downloading files. after all that happens, an error message appears that says something like "powerpoint cannot be opened. please try again later or repair this software in the control panel" with no sort of error code. i then tried repairing it from control panel which claims to complete successfully. so i restart and try to install again and the same thing happens all over again. if i try opening word, excel, powerpoint or onenote the splash screen appears and does the same thing that i described powerpoint was doing. ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. i also tried installing the 60 day trial for office 2007 that came preloaded with the computer and then installing office 2010 over it. same thing happened.
I regularly use my acer aspire 5552 ati 4250. I have norton antivirus installed but somehow more over I have a virus. It takes approximately 45 minutes for the laptop to go to the start up page, but there is no text. When it loads up to a stage I can put on the Internet I can input text into google but again, this takes a long period of time. When I press (e.g.) ALT + F the tiniest of drop down bar appears and I cannot access anything on there, this happens with anything related to right clicking to using shortcuts as things are not viewable.
Furthermore, the laptop is in safe mode at the moment and I cannot access windows or due to the fact I cannot access drop down menus or control panels as there is no text
When my computer starts up it goes directly to a black screen with 2 options. 1st is recommended-launch statup repair(may not be worded right, and 2nd is start windows normally. Windows tries to start up normally, fails and returns to this screen. I have done the repair multiple times but it says nothing is wrong. It does say an external device may be causing the problem but nothing id connected. I have tried all the options. It will not go to a previous point. When I attempt to return to factory settings it says a program is trying to end in an unexpected way and will not prodeed.
In my webroot Secure Anywhere program I keep getting w32.bamital.gen it wont seem to leave when I delete it from there. I decided to download MalwareMalbytes I ran it, deleted or whatever, what it said was bad. I rebooted, and now when I pin My Computer or anything there like my documents, etc. It says It may have been deleted removed or renamed; however I can still open it by holding windows key hitting e. Also from start menu.
I am running a 32 bit version of 7 Home Prem. For some reason WMP is not launching from the its icons on the task bar or in the start menu, nor by trying to open a WMV file.
Everytime i turn my computer on it launches into startup repair (recommended) Windows laoding files Starup repair is checking your system for problems do you want to restore your computer using system restore
i got a acer aspire 3750G windows 7 ultimate/i cant find any launch manager windows 7 is suit for my 3750G/i cant on my wifi using FN+F3 and addject brigtn with FN+left&right arrow
I recently tried to use windows media center to connect to my xbox. I've had my hp laptop for over 2 years now and may have never even used WMC. But whenever I try to launch it, the blue wheel next to the mouse pops up for a second and then nothing. Nothing happens at all.
I've tried going to programs and features and turning off both WMC and WMP, restarting, and then re-enabling them. This has done nothing. I've even gone into Windowsehome and deleted all the files in it and did the disable/enable thing (I did, of course, make a backup of the folder). I looked through the programs and features themselves, hoping to find WMC so I could see if there was a repair option, but it doesn't show up. How can I make WMC work?
My computer shut down unexpectedly and when I tried to start it back up it wants to perform a launch repair which fails for some reason. I have tried system restore and keep getting the following error: system restore failed to replace the fileD:\ProgramData\Microsoft\IdentityCRL\production\temp\wlidui_WLIDSVC\BUTTON.J I am not sure if this is some kind of virus and how to remove it. I also cannot start up in safe mode or at the command prompt. Nothing has been working.
constant boot problems about 70% of the time, and Win 7 launches are dicey. Sometimes the computer freezes while showing the Desktop. If all drivers eventually load successfully, then the computer runs fine after that. The problem is just in getting it up and running initially.Note that I have turned off MS .NET Framework on someone's suggestion, but I continue to experience difficulty booting my computer successful. I have run Dell hardware tests and these have all been A-OK. I'm attaching the results from running the Seven Forums diagnostic tool (including minidump) from crash.
after a restart.my laptop have something wrong.it says:A problem has benn detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these step:Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message. disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press f8 to select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode.
The issue is, that multiple games, such as Total War Shogun, Darksiders 2, Assasins Creed Revelations, Sleeping dogs, simply refuse to launch. I click on their respective icons, and absolutely nothing happens. For some of them the mouse turns into a circle for a couple of seconds, and that's it.Other games, like League of Legends, The Witcher 2, Civ 5, and Dota 2 don't have this issue. It's just a major bummer because I spent a lot of money on these games hoping that they would work on this newly acquired pc.
> Operating System : Windows 7 Ultimate Professional Media Center 6.01.7600 (64-bit)
> DirectX : Version 11.00
> Windows Performance Index : 1.0 on 7.9
I had initially installed windows x84 on it, and as I upgraded to x64, nothing changed.I have updated all of my drivers (I'm not exactly sure if I updated my sound card, since I can't really find it) using Driver Reviver, as well as the respective sites of the major components (such as my motherboard and my graphics card), but again, no changes.I have turned off UAC.I have attempted to run all of them as the administrator and with different compatibility settings (ranging from all the xp service packs to the vista service packs) I have reinstalled the games multiple times. My computer runs The Witcher just fine on high settings, I don't think my computer is too weak to run the games.
Ive been having an issue for several weeks now where windows will not allow programs to launch web based items, ie: Acrobat opening links in Pdf's, Any program trying to open help tabs or 'about' pages, Loader screens for games not allowing to open website links for accounts, forums, downloads etc...At the same time I noticed my menu's in all programs also changed the manner in which they opened- they cascade to the farthest left alignment instead of classic right side orientation- this applies to the desktop right click as well.At first I ignored these as they were only annoying and I thought they would resolve themselves thru future updates- not the case.
I started my computer this morning and it went straight to a black screen where I have to pick from two options:Launch startup repair or Start Windows normally. If I start normally, it just restarts my computer and goes back to the black screen. If I launch the startup repair, it goes to a screen with a Windows-style background and stays there doing nothing. From what I've seen online, there should be a window where I can choose to repair or reinstall Windows, etc. but I don't even get to those options.
I tried starting in safe mode and it looks like it's going through a long list of system files, then it stops and restarts my computer and it goes back to the black screen. Every solution I've seen online requires that pop-up window, which I never get to.
I also tried booting from my recovery discs and they just take me to the blank Windows background again. My computer was fine last night when I shut it down and I haven't downloaded or installed anything in ages.
I have just started to use Windows 7 RC1 and it has to be one of the best releases since WS2000 & WS2003.The Sheer performance, sleek finish and the GUI is great for even beginners. Problem I have so far is that WSRMacros will not launch. I have successfully downloaded the msi from MS installed and rebooted, but when executing the application it does nothing.
running in safe mode.anytime a try to run win7 pro 64bit any click freezes windows.have run all the troubleshooters, the one that i cant resolve is windows update. it has "probable corrupted files"..it (win update) wont run in safe mode.
My sister's computer is an HP Pavilion dv5t-2200 notebook PC running its native OS, Windows 7 Home Premium x64. In the last 24 hours, Avast found and attempted to remove some sort of malware. After the reboot, it recommended a full scan. After the scan was completed, the computer rebooted again. This is where the real problems began. With the exception of core programs and services, no other program will launch. Not Chrome, not AIM, not even Avast!. The only HP program still installed on the system, HP Support Assistant, will not start. Attempting to use Windows System Restore results in a BSOD as the computer is shutting down to begin the restore process. Upon returning to the desktop, a dialog box recommends that we run chkdsk, but of course that won't even launch.
Internet Explorer will launch, but the campus network requires a third-party client software install. Unfortunately, that's another program that will not launch. The computer has a recovery partition, but HP Recovery Manager is not installed or cannot be found, and attempts to download and install it have failed because 1) we cannot access the Internet to download it to the hard drive, and 2) it could not be installed from a flash drive containing the softpaq from HP.
I recently "enabled" the quick launch toolbar for windows7. When I hover my cursor over the icons the resulting "box" encasing it does not match with my current theme.I'm using Win7StyleBuilder and I'm trying to change this, but I'm having a hard time finding where it is...
I have a new laptop with Windows 7. In XP I have the quick launch area with about 10 icons that flow over 2 lines which is how I want it. In windows 7, I have dragged the bar 2 high bu the Quick Launch continues to put everything in one line so that the icons are hidden. i want to be able to see them all.
