Ive been having an issue for several weeks now where windows will not allow programs to launch web based items, ie: Acrobat opening links in Pdf's, Any program trying to open help tabs or 'about' pages, Loader screens for games not allowing to open website links for accounts, forums, downloads etc...At the same time I noticed my menu's in all programs also changed the manner in which they opened- they cascade to the farthest left alignment instead of classic right side orientation- this applies to the desktop right click as well.At first I ignored these as they were only annoying and I thought they would resolve themselves thru future updates- not the case.
I downloaded and installed Ubuntu and sectioned off a part of my hard drive for it. I intended to have it set up to run both windows 7 and linux together and let me choose which boot disk I wanted to use at start up. Ubuntu took over and so I read through some forums online. I can now get to the Windows 7 loading screen but it freezes there. I have my install disc and was hoping someone could assist me with getting windows 7 back. I do not care if I loose Ubuntu. I am currently sitting with the Administrator: X:windowssystem32cmd.exe from the System Recovery Options Menu with my Windows 7 Disc in the tray.
I want to view multiple windows side by side across the screen, and it kind of works, with a few issues. The first is that it never includes the window in which I am running Firefox, it will arrange every other window side by side and leave the browser window open at the original size across the whole lot. The second is I can't work out a way to say view windows side by side but exclude some - I want to snap my browser windows and a couple of other things which receive regular updates to the best possible use of the screen, but ignore windows running utilities, email, etc. Is there a way to say place some windows side by side without having to shut down and reopen the ones I'm not interested in viewing on side by side?
The third is, is there any way to specify the order in which I want it to display the windows? I get them in all kinds of random orders and even if I drag them around to be almost exactly where I want them, if I use the "side by side" they jump into different orders - I want Firefox to the left, IE to the right (they fulfil different view functions for me) and the other program in the middle. There seems to be no way for me to tell the system I want them lined up like that. Will I have to line things up on the screen manually if I want them like that? It's not always the same programs so I don't want to start incorporating commands to force them to run in certain sizes and locations.

"The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail." First of all, I've gotten this on at least 3 different programs. Everyone who's written about this seems to think it's related to their specific program...it's not! Secondly, what I find here in the forum on the subject tells me there has been no solution...also am unable to find any on the 'net'. I think it acts like a virus and is spreading...What's up with this??? Does anyone know...? It has kept me from opening iTunes so I can't work with my iPad anymore. Certainly there must be someone knowledgeable enough to know what this is and what to do about it...right?:

I am taking an online tutorial on HTML. I like to have two windows open side by sideOne for my lessons and the other for that which I am working on. I have been sitting here for about two hours. Some times they will open side by side and other times not--most of the times they don't. One of the windows will open and fill the screen. If I restore the windows down, it might work once, but the next time it will fill up the screen. I even click on Proprieties on the IE icon and choose to open minimized. That didn't help.I've been to goodle looking at information on using Windows Snap and that doesn't seem to work. If I right-click on the task-bar and select, "Show windows side by side" it doesn't work--except for a few times it will.
I've tried nearly everything possible. I've tried a sfc /scannow (CBD log is below), I just ran a chkdsk.exe, reinstalled Visual C++ and nothing has fixed it. I've also tried reinstalling the program. What else can I do? I cannot use a Windows Installer Disk as I don't have one as the company installed Windows for me and I never got a disk.I also don't have a CD large enough to put the .iso on it. I made a Windows Repair Disk but I can't seem to be able to boot from it, my BIOS is that of a Gygabite 990x Mobo.
I got a passive 3D monitor for Xmas and whilst the sales are on i want to get some good games that can make the most out of it.What games output either Side by Side/top and bottom or Interlaced 3D? Ive looked in the settings of a few recent games, some of them mention 3d but turning it on still outputs a 2D picture to the screen..
I have two texts which are the same only in two languages.I'd like to create a document that will show the texts side by side.Is there a way to do that in Office or in another environmentCurrently, the texts are in PDF format, but I could convert them to any format that will enable me to do the side-by-side merging of the documents.
I have Office 2007 installed on my computer, and have just acquired Office 2010. Is it possible to install both products side by side as it were before I get rid of 2007?
I have problem running any executable file, including opening zip files.
I have uninstall Norton Internet Security came with the Lenovo laptop, and install Avast free antivirus, everything fine after installation. But today when I start the laptop, all executable files cannot start, such as IE, Adobe, MS office, anything with .exe, and .zip. Error message is:
"The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more details."
I google a bit, one suggestion is to re-install the Visual C++ re-distribution, but the exe file cannot run, therefore re-installing is impossible.
There is another suggestion to reset the default file association for exe, tried that but no difference. Couldn't find any other instance the same, look like my problem is more serious than other.
Yesterday I got a game someone I know (but not in contact with) programmed back in 2007 in C++.When I try running it I get this error message:I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit.I tried running it with compatibility settings of Windows XP, but when I did that I didn't get anything... no windows popped up, not even the error.
Windows wont let me start some programs and games because it keeps displaying an error about a wrong side by side configuration . But the thing is i did a clean install of windows 7 x64 . Why is this happening ?
I had Windows 7 installed on my 64x HP PC and all was fine. But yesterday morning I got my old P4 out of the closet and decided to wipe 7 and install Windows Server 08 with my old P4 as the client running XP. Then I was offered another PC that is significantly better than this P4 so I put Win 7 back on the HP with intentions of replacing the P4 with the new AMD box. These "things" are device recognizancian. First, there are camera card readers built into the front of the HP box. They showed in "Computer". But they are not there now.Second, I have a USB HD. I store all of my data on it. When I plug it in now the computer makes those beeps as it does when it recognizes a new USB device but it won't show up in "Computer" either.
i opened %userprofile% folder and found that there are 2 My Documents folders.Does windows 7 allowing same names now ?Both are exact same name, copy name paste to other has no effect as if they were named differently but not. This making me confused where user data is stored. Is this normal ?And why folders are being created when i removed them ? Folders like my pictures/videos/music ? i dont use media player/dont upload pictures or recording vides so WTF is up with that ?
I need to allow full screen Windows applications overlapping task bar under Windows 7. The "auto hide" is not the option due to user requirements. One possible solution is to change the code of those applications to allow them overlapping task bar, but it will imply a lot of work as we have many of them already running at customer's side. The best would be just to remove programmatically the "topmost" style of task bar window, but my code failed to do that with the error 0x00000005 "Access denied".
I have a windows 7 ultimate setup at home allowing a VPN connections via ptppp using the incoming setup.I set up the Client which is my iPad 2 and the connection goes through fine authenticating and then connected internally within the network and externally outside the network. Everything seems work prefectly. The client(iPad 2) loses internet browsing capability if I turn On the option to send all traffic however if the send all traffic is off then everything works fine. It's only my assumption that the reason why the internet works when the send all traffic is Off via my iPad 2 to the windows 7 machine is because it created a split tunnel which allows me to use the Internet without problems. My goal is to be able to turn On Send All traffic and it works. Having all data passthrough the windows machine
so i reinstall my os and backed up all of my c drive and an additional hdd when i restored them on the new hdd i try to delete the old c folder and it says i dont have permission but im the only user on this computer and it will not allow me to delete this folder at all i tried to go in and allow myself full access but yet can not delete this folder can anyone give me some insight on this and a way to get rid of this restored c
i have a ftp server that goes to sleep after 2 minuets of inactivity, cool it will save me on my electricity bill, i send a magic packet to wake it when i need it, hears the issue, filezilla server will not keep it awake when somebody is logged into it, so when im out and about, i can wake it up, just into it with filezilla client but it then will sleep after two minuets because apparently it doesn't realize i am logged into it. how do i allow this program to keep the pc awake, i have a feeling that if there is a way then it will keep it awake forever considering the server end is always running when the PC is on, id like to set it to stay on if somebody is logged in.

So I can't seem to get my audio from the computer to playback on my bluetooth headset. I'm using ventrilo, and it doesn't allow me to select bluetooth as my output device. It seemed to pair to it alright... btw it's a motorola c305 and I'm using Windows 7 x64.
I am using W7, home premium on 1 year old HP desktop computer.Recently, I was having trouble accessing videos from you tube, email and other sites. I had been using adobe flash player 9 and I was told to upgrade adobe flash and to get version 11. I installed version 11 but it would not play until I lowered my privacy settings from medium high to medium per instructions on Adobe. The flash player worked after that except now I am constantly getting the following message everytime I launch IE 9 and every time I go to a web site. The error message is always similar to this -"Privacy Alert The website (AZh).com has requested to save a file on your computer called a cookie. Do you want to allow?Allow or block"I am currently getting this message many times a day. No matter if I select block or allow, they keep coming back. This happens on all sites and often is unrelated to the site I am visiting.
I have a problem in that certain urls are not allowed. Receive msg that "Internet Explorer cannot display ..."There is also a problem in a web page from letsplaychess.com in that the chess board does not display. I have un/reinstalled my AV (KIS 2012) and uninstalled IE9. Both IE8 & 9 have same problem. Other computers running Vista and XP do not have these problems.
Okay okay, I know typical forum etiquette and hate being that new guy that just logs in to ask a simple question, but today I'm that guy. I tried searching and couldn't find an answer and something this simple should easily be found at least on Microsoft's page.
I just want to know the best way to allow programs to be accessed and/or denied access by various user accounts.
Example: I currently have Photoshop Elements installed on my computer and the only way I could find to give access to the others users (household media center) was to copy a short cut and paste it on that users desktop. Then I had to install it on each individual user account. I had to do the same for Firefox and Napster. Is there a better way to do this??
I am currently having issues with Napster running correctly and I have a feeling it's because of the way that added this to each user's account.
I was kind of thrown into the issue of allowing a user to have admin rights on their own system, eg., download various programs like Firefox, Adobe stuff, and before I go in to muddle things up, I must ask how to do this.....
I ran Combofix without any problems and removed multiple items.I started my McAfee to run behind it this morning and it ran extremely slow.I ended up stopping it and attempted to go back to run combofix again tonight and even tried a few other downloads.I keep getting a message that my current security settings will not allow.I have already did a temporary shut down of McAfee to make sure that it was not interferring.I know that I still have atleast some sort of problem because the google search is still acting up.
When I am on a limited user and I try to set permissions of its folders I need to provide the admin password to proceed, why?
Now the problem with User Account Control. When I click on advanced sharing, or try to do any activity that requires admin priviliges, User Account Control window pops up, you know, that window asks for the password and it somehow blocks the desktop and anything else so I cant take a picture of it.
Anyway after I provide the admin's password, the pop up closes but the process hangs/freezes does not respond for eternity.
If it is an app, it does not run. If it is a folder, the explorer thread(is it thread?) related to that folder is not responding for eternity and it is stuck, hangs. however you want to call it.
