Whenever I run the troubleshooter for performance issues it says one problem detected "this computer is setup to automatically run programs at startup"
And I only have 3 programs to run at start up my AV, audio driver, and some intel rapid storage program.
I am trying to figure a way to prevent programs from automatically adding themselves to start-up.(totally annoying) Tools like daemon tools will add itself to start-up every time I run the program.. same goes for sandboxie and various other programs.. Anyone know of a way or tool maybe that prevents this from happening so I can feel like I am actually in control of my windows box?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a toshiba laptop that runs windows 7 32bit home premium and it is not booting properly. When I turn it on t will show the microsoft logo and says "starting windows" but never gets past that point. I have tried all the fixes to no avail including, safe mode (will not boot into safe mode..starts to load but stops at drivers/atipcie.sys and sits there for a minute or two and goes to the repair startup recommended screen. I have tried startup repair and done it many times because I have read it can take several times (it says "startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically") I have tried the windows repair disc using system restore but it says no restore points found, even though i know they are on my computer. All of my school files are on this computer and while I have some of there backed up on a external hard drive there are some more recent files that are not. What can I try without a clean install to try and repair this?

I have run malware (Malwarebytes) and virus scans (Microsoft Security Essentials) and removed some items. Malwarebytes didn't detect much, but I found a trojan with Security Essentials. However, after removal my problems persist. I have scanned and attempted recovery of bad sectors. Issues were found and fixed, but a disk check was said to be necessary. I tried running chkdsk c: /F, but the disk check cancelled within a fraction of a second on startup.

I made a mistake by downloading a windows something ware to boot up security. It then crash...so I went to task manager didnt work, which i then went to search and entered msconfig. I then chose safe mode in minimal services. It then says loading files. U see a black screen with thite letters of the files being loaded. Then u see ur mouse cursor, and then it boots up again and same process. So I tried launch startup repair, it launches a repair, but it says it startup cannot repair this computer automactically. I then result into going to tapping f8..it goes to the screen of advanced options. Problem is if i try safe mode it will crash. I dont have a backup, and i dont want to lose my movies of over 700 gigs.

I am pretty sure that a virus cause this, right before my computer shut down on it's own my anti virus popped up and said that a Trojan was found but I didn't have to do anything. Then the computer shut down and when it restartrd started to load files and then go into startup repair, only it couldn't fix it. I tried a restore, but again it said that the startup files wern't there. I just quickly scanned the diagnostic details and noticed something that said "boot critical file C:CI.dll is corrupt".

View 4 Replies View Relatedi use ubuntu OS and windows7 professional on an HP dv5 notebook, last week i made a mistake in that i removed the battery while the machine was on as i was using windows7. the time i tried to restart it again it recommended startup repair which ran but 'could not repair it automatically' i tried the f8 options but to no avail. when i run scan and memory diagnostics all are successful but the system can still boot. am able to view my data on windows through ubuntu but ubuntu can't execute windows programs. what should i do to restore windows without loosing data?

But on startup it doesn't automatically connect to the Internet. I have to manually do it. And yes, the option to automatically connect is checked. Even after a reinstallation of windows, I keep having the same problem. In Ubuntu it worked on startup.

I have CPU-Z, Hardware Monitor Pro and Resource Monitor shortcuts in the startup folder.
If I go to MSCONFIG I can see that the items are there to be started during startup.
What am I doing wrong that will not allow these programs to start up?
So I still have Windows 7 Ultimate Beta and going to buy Professional soon. But something weird is going on.
I have Thunderbird which checks all my email addresses at startup but it says "cannot connect" so i started to check out my wireless. My wireless says it has "limited access" to my network, says it is "not connected" and when I check the wireless status, it would say that it isn't connected to the IPv4 and IPv6, all while being connected for "00:01:30+"
Then after several minutes, it would just start identifying and connect to the network/internet real fast out of nowhere. My wireless is a Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG network connection
Also, I have a VMware to run Ubuntu which bridges the internet to go online, if this helps. (I cannot uninstall since it took me 4 weeks to get it running)
Using a dime a dozen, store bought preconfigured PC running Win 7, during the initial setup out of the box, when you are at the user name/ computer name screen, I initially typed in a user name, but then did a "cut", deleting that name and I just entered a password to see if it would let me do this.
To my surprise it did, advancing me to the next screen with just a password.
When I got to the actual login screen and just typed in the password, but it wouldn't let me login. I tried the original user name with the password, but that didn't work.
The solution from Comtrash was to do a restore process, effectively reloading their version of the O/S.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using a Ceton Infinity 4 tune card for the tuner card. I have a 55g ssd card as my c drive. I have a 1tb {d drive} drive that I trying to use a recorder drive. When I setup WMC in the recorder section I clicked on the d drive as the drive to record to. I have about a 100g of hd programs on the d drive. Tonight I had castle and Hawaii 5 0 set to record. 2 to 10 a box came up say Hawaii 5 0 will not record because there not enough spcace for to record to but yet I got 800 g left on the d drive. I checked the favorite folder and it have a folder named recorder with drive under it.

There are some programs that I need to run at startup, but they tend to need to be run as administrator. I have dragged the shortcut into the startup folder, but this doesn't start the program. Some apps that I need are RealTemp, Gigabyte Dynamic Energy Saver2, and Gigabyte Easy Tune 6.East Tune 6 does seem to start itself at startup, even though it needs to be run as administrator if I start it from it's shortcut, and I don't get a UAC window, so there must be a way to configure startup for these kind of things. The DES2 app also runs at startup, but not always for some reason, so I would like to add it to the startup list to make sure it's running. I have followed the windows instructions for adding programs to startup, and I have also checked the "run as administrator" check box under compatibility, but neither of these seems to do anything.
I'm not sure why you have a "run as administrator" check box if you still get asked if you want to run as admin even when it is checked. Why have a feature that doesn't do anything? I'm not sure that the entire UAC feature is supposed to do anyway, other than annoy you when you do something that microsoft would rather you not do.
I am running W7 Ultimate 32-bit. I have two programs that have stopped running on startup. One is 'everything' - a better search engine, the other is 'Karen's Time sync' - a clock sync program. I have UAC enabled and when they did run, they asked for permission to continue. Now they don't run at all unless I start them manually.
