Every time I start or exit a program, I get an annoying "Boing" sound. I have been trying for weeks to find a way to shut this thing off or even to change it but cannot find anything that stops it or allows a change in that awful sound.
Every time I start up normally into Win7 everything is fine for a couple of minutes. I'll open a few programs, then after a few minutes of them running they'll hang and enter the 'not responding' mode. (firefox, steam, IE). If I don't already have task manager running the system will basically be unresponsive and the only thing I can do is reboot manually. If I have task manager running I can sometimes end a process or two but some will remain open & unresponsive. Any programs that are working (including task manager) disappear when I minimize them and no programs appear on the task bar, (though they can be retrieved with alt+tab).
McAfee also has 'real time scanning' permanently disabled.
This is all very strange as there was nothing wrong four days ago when I was away, and the symptoms occured within 2-3 minutes of booting up this evening. The system runs in safe mode.
When I start up my computer, my Steam starts up, then I manually start Chrome. Chrome comes up fine, Steam does too, but when I try to right click on Steam and click friends, all it does is create another steam process running at 100-108 K. Then if I close Chrome and try to reopen it, it will do the same. This happens with EVERY program after I start up. There's a 5 second window where I can open programs without issue, then after that it will only start 108 K copies of them. It takes me around 30 restarts just to get it working properly, if not more.
I have found that many of my computer programs will not open when I turn my system on. The most recent one is Sony Media Go which I need to sync my phone. When I try to lauch the application iit comes up with the following error message: Media go failed to initialize error code 0x80070057 failure in initializing operations manager step 40 and when I click on show detail the following appears: [code] I have tried unistalling and re-installing and creating a system restore to no avail.
1. Which DLL uses W7/64 for the sound at start-up of Windows? I would like to edit it for my own sound.
2. How can I alter the sequence of the entries in the Start-menu? Now the sequence is in sequence of creation, I would like to group them by application-area.
I'm experiencing a strange sound in windows navigation start sound if i play that file in a media player it works fine but sometimes this odd sound appears in windows navigation start sound.I've ran malwarebytes (no issues), sfc scannow (no issues).I'm running on board sound card.
One USB device on my desktop computer running Win 7 professional does not work. Maintenance service told me that they cannot repair dysfunctional USB because it is build into the case (chassis). But one dysfunctional USB is not a problem at all, because I have 7 other USB slots operating normally. Anyway, now I am getting non-stop notifications of this non-problem!!! Why? The frequency is sometimes very high and always extremely annoying: it varies greatly, it can be between 5-10 per minute. Aural notifications have this annoying sound and visual notifications are popping up in a sizable cloud in bottom right corner of a screen and are lingering there for far too long, and when I click to close it, it pops back immediately. This is a spoiler (I could tolerate one or two dysfunctional notification a day). It is bothering me visually and aurally, greatly diminishing my user experience, disturbing my work, my listening to the music and watching the pictures or movies. After much tinkering I succeeded to turn off sound notification (via Sounds customization), but I cannot turn off visual notifications. I cannot customize Notification area icons - when I try to "Hide icons and notifications" in category Windows explorer where there is this unwanted visual message USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED and click OK, it does not work, because it pops up again immediately - next time I check Notification area icons customization this category is back to "Only show notifications" although I changed it to "Hide".
I'm not sure this is the right place to post, but, I get a message on start up to turn on action center, this was on before, I think I may have disabled it, and I don't know how to reset it.
i enjoy playing games on nintendo8. but i hate the fact that turning off the sound isn't an option. these games run on java. i was wondering, is there anyway i could mute the sound of java, or just the web page, or even the browser, without turning off all my system sound? because i want to listen to Internet videos, and media player videos, while playing these games.
Bought some pieces, assembled a new PC, installed Windows 7 Ultimate, then SP1, then several programs and everything seemed to be fine. But the next day, without changing anything, some programs won't start correctly, to be more precise: their proccesses seem to start (or at least they show up on Task Manager, but consuming only a few KB of ram and no CPU) but no program window appears whatsoever. Sometimes rebooting the PC will stop this from happening, but not always.
I used Nortons PC Check up. It reported I had one problem. Under Speed it said 171 start up services. I don't understand what they are telling me. I have only two start up programs running.S

So there are a few programs that do not respond whenever I launch them. It seems that the list is getting bigger... Now I cant login into steam, when I click the login button it starts 'not responding'. Same happens with some other soft.SFC scan says that there are some corrupted files but they cannot be fixed. I dont know whether that is the case or not, but what can I do about this
The screenshot will show what I mean. When I click on All programs, a list appears (shortened) and when I click on a choice (i.e. Accessories/System Tools) it tells me it is empty.I don't know how to fix this, and all references I have found seem to relate to upgrades from Vista to windows7.I have windows home premium 64 bit.
I've installed Windows 7 on my laptop and want to customize the Start Menu's All Programs window. I normally consolidate like programs/folders into one common folder to minimize the number of items on the All Program window (i.e. all Microsoft related items in one folder called something like Microsoft Programs). I can't seem to figure out how to do that in Windows 7.
After an update install from Vista everything seems to be working perfectly EXCEPT none of my existing program are listed in the Start-All Program--it is completely empty! I find I can pin programs to the menu and if I install a new program it does show up. I have no problems accessing my programs from the desktop icons. I want my All Programs back!!
my startup time has been longer of late, sometimes much longer. i log in and wait at the welcome screen. i checked performance information> advanced tools and saw this. [code] the last one is a duplicate and i may need that one, but the other two entries are old and not needed.
I've run across a weird error that is making me bang my head against the wall.. I am running windows professional x64
I cannot seem to start any x86 programs from their shortcuts, or exe files. The problem exists in both regular and safe mode. When I click the exe or shortcut, the process comes up in the task bar using a tiny amount of memory (~100K) and just sits there.
I CAN run any program from cmd using the start command (start path o.exe), and I also can run any x64 programs that I have installed. I have tried sfc /scannnow and chkdsk /r.
Also, if I add a program to the startup list (registry or startup folder) it starts up fine on boot.
I have a problem with my Windows 7. I bought a laptop in January and until yesterday it worked fine. All of a sudden, it wouldn't close my tabs in Firefox. Then it wouldn't open VLC Media Player, games, ... nothing. Not even the Configuration. The loading symbol comes on, then just goes away and nothing happens. When something does open, it's very slow and stops working.I get white shapes when these things happen (even with the Start Menu). In Safe Mode everything works fineI have tried scanning with Avast, Malwarebytes, Microsoft Security Essentials and CClean. Soms files were deleted, and now the scans come up clean.
I tried Win 8 but had problems with Flight Simulator so returned to Win 7. Since doing a clean re-install of 7 I've had issues with programs failing to start for one reason or another. Live Mail for example will run fine for a few days and then suddenly will not run giving the message "the version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you are running......etc"
i have only recently switched to windows 7 and am slowly getting all the programs i want to have for its daily use ... the problem i have is i cannot find where the start up program manager is ... has this been removed or am i just being duhhh
I recently changed my hard drive letters around and now the programs that i had in the startup folder wont start at startup. They only start manually i made sure i put the new path to the program but it stil wont start
