View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got a laptop with a partition on the main drive that holds some of the programs that came with the laptop (fingerprint reader, webcam software, etc.), but it's a 28 gig partition, and it's only using 2. I was wondering how I would go about removing the partition, but keeping the programs on the it. Will it work if I just copy-paste them over to the main drive and delete the partition? This is probably a stupid question, but I figure it's better to ask and know than guess and mess something up. There's also a folder in the partition called drivers, so my guess would be the aforementioned copy-paste technique won't work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI had a new computer assembled by a shop. I have I7 950 based system and has twin 1tb hardrives. I wanted to mirror the drives and files under windows, however the shop set up the drives in Raid1.(shop doesnt know what customer service is) I transferred all my files onto the drive with window home premium etc before realizing it had been instlled with Raid bios setup. I want to remove the raid format (bios) and clear the drives and reinstall the drives under windows to use one a a backup drive. I have a external drive I can use to assist and later use a a second backup drive.I understand once I clear the Raid formatting I will wipe all the info from the installed drives? Can I make a backup on my external drive and reinstall all my prgrams and files from my external drive once I do this. Also If I mirror windows 7 to my external drive can I reinstall this from my external drive to the internal drive or will it be set up as a raid format and not be of use?

View 5 Replies View RelatedNo matter how many times I launch Skype or iTunes, they just won't get added to the Start Menu's Recent Programs list.
View 9 Replies View RelatedEvery time I start up normally into Win7 everything is fine for a couple of minutes. I'll open a few programs, then after a few minutes of them running they'll hang and enter the 'not responding' mode. (firefox, steam, IE). If I don't already have task manager running the system will basically be unresponsive and the only thing I can do is reboot manually. If I have task manager running I can sometimes end a process or two but some will remain open & unresponsive. Any programs that are working (including task manager) disappear when I minimize them and no programs appear on the task bar, (though they can be retrieved with alt+tab).
McAfee also has 'real time scanning' permanently disabled.
This is all very strange as there was nothing wrong four days ago when I was away, and the symptoms occured within 2-3 minutes of booting up this evening. The system runs in safe mode.
When I start up my computer, my Steam starts up, then I manually start Chrome. Chrome comes up fine, Steam does too, but when I try to right click on Steam and click friends, all it does is create another steam process running at 100-108 K. Then if I close Chrome and try to reopen it, it will do the same. This happens with EVERY program after I start up. There's a 5 second window where I can open programs without issue, then after that it will only start 108 K copies of them. It takes me around 30 restarts just to get it working properly, if not more.
View 14 Replies View RelatedBought some pieces, assembled a new PC, installed Windows 7 Ultimate, then SP1, then several programs and everything seemed to be fine. But the next day, without changing anything, some programs won't start correctly, to be more precise: their proccesses seem to start (or at least they show up on Task Manager, but consuming only a few KB of ram and no CPU) but no program window appears whatsoever. Sometimes rebooting the PC will stop this from happening, but not always.

So there are a few programs that do not respond whenever I launch them. It seems that the list is getting bigger... Now I cant login into steam, when I click the login button it starts 'not responding'. Same happens with some other soft.SFC scan says that there are some corrupted files but they cannot be fixed. I dont know whether that is the case or not, but what can I do about this
View 7 Replies View RelatedThe screenshot will show what I mean. When I click on All programs, a list appears (shortened) and when I click on a choice (i.e. Accessories/System Tools) it tells me it is empty.I don't know how to fix this, and all references I have found seem to relate to upgrades from Vista to windows7.I have windows home premium 64 bit.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've installed Windows 7 on my laptop and want to customize the Start Menu's All Programs window. I normally consolidate like programs/folders into one common folder to minimize the number of items on the All Program window (i.e. all Microsoft related items in one folder called something like Microsoft Programs). I can't seem to figure out how to do that in Windows 7.
View 4 Replies View RelatedRegarding the Start-Up menu, the list of programs and items that start when the PC is turned on:
a. If there are two Users, is the list different depending upon which User logs on ?
b. IF there is a separate list for each user, and then the two Users just
do "Switch Users" during the day, do these start up items then change, or once going, they continue irrespective of the User ?
e.g., each user would be operating on "his side" of the PC as expected, but the start up programs for the other user would (also) be active. True ?
After an update install from Vista everything seems to be working perfectly EXCEPT none of my existing program are listed in the Start-All Program--it is completely empty! I find I can pin programs to the menu and if I install a new program it does show up. I have no problems accessing my programs from the desktop icons. I want my All Programs back!!
View 9 Replies View Relatedmy startup time has been longer of late, sometimes much longer. i log in and wait at the welcome screen. i checked performance information> advanced tools and saw this. [code] the last one is a duplicate and i may need that one, but the other two entries are old and not needed.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've run across a weird error that is making me bang my head against the wall.. I am running windows professional x64
I cannot seem to start any x86 programs from their shortcuts, or exe files. The problem exists in both regular and safe mode. When I click the exe or shortcut, the process comes up in the task bar using a tiny amount of memory (~100K) and just sits there.
I CAN run any program from cmd using the start command (start path o.exe), and I also can run any x64 programs that I have installed. I have tried sfc /scannnow and chkdsk /r.
Also, if I add a program to the startup list (registry or startup folder) it starts up fine on boot.
I have a problem with my Windows 7. I bought a laptop in January and until yesterday it worked fine. All of a sudden, it wouldn't close my tabs in Firefox. Then it wouldn't open VLC Media Player, games, ... nothing. Not even the Configuration. The loading symbol comes on, then just goes away and nothing happens. When something does open, it's very slow and stops working.I get white shapes when these things happen (even with the Start Menu). In Safe Mode everything works fineI have tried scanning with Avast, Malwarebytes, Microsoft Security Essentials and CClean. Soms files were deleted, and now the scans come up clean.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI tried Win 8 but had problems with Flight Simulator so returned to Win 7. Since doing a clean re-install of 7 I've had issues with programs failing to start for one reason or another. Live Mail for example will run fine for a few days and then suddenly will not run giving the message "the version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you are running......etc"

also, after my computer goes into power savings mode, it won't come back from it. another annoying issue...
After clicking on start button, one needs to click on 'All Programs'. Can the default be, click on the start button and have all programs show with a link to 'back'?
