So there are a few programs that do not respond whenever I launch them. It seems that the list is getting bigger... Now I cant login into steam, when I click the login button it starts 'not responding'. Same happens with some other soft.SFC scan says that there are some corrupted files but they cannot be fixed. I dont know whether that is the case or not, but what can I do about this
View 7 RepliesToday I booted up my Samsung laptop wanting to begin gaming. Instead of being met with the game client menu I was met with a not responding client. This happens to almost all of the programs on my computer. It affects google chrome, control panel, and even sound mixer. I noticed that my computer also will not shut down without assistance. It gets stuck at the circle saying shutting down.

My computer did a critical update last night, went to MS its own and did it. Now it runs very slow, and most programs wont respond at all?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe laptop is an i7 with 8GB of (some kind) ram, Win 7 64bit, etc.Boot and load times are not an issue, however with nearly any program, be it Excel or Photoshop, mouse inputs are beyond slow. I have to hover over a button for a second before it even highlights. It seems that if the programs are open for a little while that it is somewhat better, but still not acceptable for how new the computer is. CPU usage and memory usage are very low and no particular process seems to be hogging resources and causing the issue.I have formatted and completed a new install within the month, ran the computer with minimal programs installed, with all drivers and windows updates installed with no change. It's not a virus or any kind of malware. I have tried various sizes of virtual memory/ paging file with no change either. I've tried another set of memory modules with perhaps a slight improvement, but it could have been the placebo effect as well. My gaming rig I built works perfectly with none of this nonsense, but I can't figure it out aside from blaming it on something that HP has installed, or with its proprietary drivers that are causing some conflict.
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo i have had it for like a month now and i got it from a We Buy Gold shop something like a pawn store so it was basically used. The laptop was working fine fast and well i downloaded games such as mmo's grand chase and i played that and it ran really well no problems. Sometimes the game would have problems and i would have to press the power button to reset it and i did maybe like 20 times i know thats bad. And now for dome reason when i log into my laptop it would take a while for the windows screen to load and then i would be logged into my laptop i would go on google chrome and use the internet watch videos after about 5-8 good minutes google chrome would load slow and then clompetely stop loading and i would exit and google chrome and re-launch it after i re-launch it it wont come up and i would try launching other programs such as control panel or any of my mmo's and they wont even appear and then when i try pressing mutiple application at a time the cpu would freeze. It was way worse before sometimes i couldn't get past the windows log in loading screen i would be loading for like and hour and I would have to power rest AGAIN. The windows shows up but it only in white, next thing I know the Not Responding window will open and ultimately it restarts. I've tried installing anti-malware programs as some forums suggested but it didn't work. It's been like this for about two months now. I'm been using WMP's "open" button to navigate my way through my files because that is the only way I can open them.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just started up my Laptop (Sony Vaio 2.6GHz Core i5 | 4GB RAM | ATI Radeon | Windows 7 Home Premium) and none of the programs on my laptop are responding when I click on them to start them. Not even Windows Explorer opens. Nothing responds. I can open the windows start button, but that is about it. The PC is still under warranty, so it's quite new (4months). I also take great care of it, I do not load all sorts of crap on it. Only the essentials.It all started yesterday, when my PC became really slow and I had to restart it, where it literally took 10 minutes too shut down (NO windows updates being installed...). I restarted it, ran a check disc for bad sectors, and it found none. Only a few bad clusters. I also ran - sfc /scannow command in cmd. However, when I open some of the programs(non windows system programs such as explorer and task manager), it gives me the following error: "The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion".

error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timley fashion Also before a message / Windows cannot connect to the printer. The local print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart the machine. Does this mean to connect a USB cable and reconfigure the wireless connection.
No matter how many times I launch Skype or iTunes, they just won't get added to the Start Menu's Recent Programs list.
View 9 Replies View RelatedEvery time I start up normally into Win7 everything is fine for a couple of minutes. I'll open a few programs, then after a few minutes of them running they'll hang and enter the 'not responding' mode. (firefox, steam, IE). If I don't already have task manager running the system will basically be unresponsive and the only thing I can do is reboot manually. If I have task manager running I can sometimes end a process or two but some will remain open & unresponsive. Any programs that are working (including task manager) disappear when I minimize them and no programs appear on the task bar, (though they can be retrieved with alt+tab).
McAfee also has 'real time scanning' permanently disabled.
This is all very strange as there was nothing wrong four days ago when I was away, and the symptoms occured within 2-3 minutes of booting up this evening. The system runs in safe mode.
When I start up my computer, my Steam starts up, then I manually start Chrome. Chrome comes up fine, Steam does too, but when I try to right click on Steam and click friends, all it does is create another steam process running at 100-108 K. Then if I close Chrome and try to reopen it, it will do the same. This happens with EVERY program after I start up. There's a 5 second window where I can open programs without issue, then after that it will only start 108 K copies of them. It takes me around 30 restarts just to get it working properly, if not more.
View 14 Replies View RelatedBought some pieces, assembled a new PC, installed Windows 7 Ultimate, then SP1, then several programs and everything seemed to be fine. But the next day, without changing anything, some programs won't start correctly, to be more precise: their proccesses seem to start (or at least they show up on Task Manager, but consuming only a few KB of ram and no CPU) but no program window appears whatsoever. Sometimes rebooting the PC will stop this from happening, but not always.

When I click on All programs, a list appears (shortened) and when I click on a choice (i.e. Accessories/System Tools) it tells me it is empty.I don't know how to fix this, and all references I have found seem to relate to upgrades from Vista to windows7.I have windows home premium 64 bit.

a. If there are two Users, is the list different depending upon which User logs on ?
b. IF there is a separate list for each user, and then the two Users just
do "Switch Users" during the day, do these start up items then change, or once going, they continue irrespective of the User ?
e.g., each user would be operating on "his side" of the PC as expected, but the start up programs for the other user would (also) be active. True ?
After an update install from Vista everything seems to be working perfectly EXCEPT none of my existing program are listed in the Start-All Program--it is completely empty! I find I can pin programs to the menu and if I install a new program it does show up. I have no problems accessing my programs from the desktop icons. I want my All Programs back!!

I cannot seem to start any x86 programs from their shortcuts, or exe files. The problem exists in both regular and safe mode. When I click the exe or shortcut, the process comes up in the task bar using a tiny amount of memory (~100K) and just sits there.
I CAN run any program from cmd using the start command (start path o.exe), and I also can run any x64 programs that I have installed. I have tried sfc /scannnow and chkdsk /r.
Also, if I add a program to the startup list (registry or startup folder) it starts up fine on boot.
I have a problem with my Windows 7. I bought a laptop in January and until yesterday it worked fine. All of a sudden, it wouldn't close my tabs in Firefox.Then it wouldn't open VLC Media Player, games, ... nothing. Not even the Configuration. The loading symbol comes on, then just goes away and nothing happens. When something does open, it's very slow and stops working.I get white shapes when these things happen (even with the Start Menu).In Safe Mode everything works fineI have tried scanning with Avast, Malwarebytes, Microsoft Security Essentials and CClean. Soms files were deleted, and now the scans come up clean.

Since doing a clean re-install of 7 I've had issues with programs failing to start for one reason or another. Live Mail for example will run fine for a few days and then suddenly will not run giving the message "the version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you are running......etc"
