View 8 Replies View RelatedI work on a file in Word, I saved it. Then I want to email it to someone or upload to a website. When I open Explorer it just gives me an option called Recent Places which is a list of folders I have recently accessed. Then I have to remember (Word doesn't make that easy as it doesnt say at the top of every file the folder it is in like Word perfect wonderfully does) which folder I saved the file in. Is there anyway that I can set up Explorer so that a list of recently saved files, not just folders they are in? That would make things wonderfully easier and I wont have to go back and forth through a bunch of folders to find my file to email or upload.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAs the title states Explorer is bogged down when the folders have a large number of items in them (over 500). I have searched multiple places and this topic is brought up regularly but too few solutions. The only bit of information I have is that when I view the same folder from the Computer link (in the Navigation pane) it does not slow down when I open the folder. It instantly populates the window with the folder contents.I think this is because the libraries and Favorites are virtual folders??? I don't know why this would cause Windows Explorer to freeze up for 10 seconds to display the folder contents but it is incredibly frustrating. Moving files between folders can be time consuming and has forced me to completely abandon the Libraries & Favorites.
View 7 Replies View RelatedRunning Win7 Ultimate 64Bit.I recently installed adobe photoshop cs6. When viewing .jpg files in explorer they are associated with windows photoviewer. If I right click on a .jpg file and go to open with, the CS6 executable does not appear, so I select "choose default program", "browse", make sure "always use the selected program to open this type of file" checkbox is checked, go to the .exe file for CS6, select it, and it takes me back to the "Open With" window but does not allow me to select the OK button to make the association. It's like I never chose an .exe to open the file with.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been using Windows Live Mail for about a month. I am still trying to set it up so that I can have all of my messages at the top left, and not within each email account.
I have set up Quick Views which covers most, but not deletes. Noting the Storage Folders at the bottom, I "moved up" these folders (along with the Out Box) so that they are under the Quick Views, above all of the email accounts I have. However, whenever I restart the program, they are back at the bottom.
Additionally, whenever I delete an incoming message, or send out a message, it goes into the appropriate email account, rather than were I would prefer, into the storage folders for these items, where they would all be together when I am searching for a prior incoming or sent email.
1st Question: How can I keep the storage folders at the top on restart? 2nd Question: How can I have deletions and sent messages, automatically placed into the appropriate Storage Folders, rather than into the individual email accounts?
Lately explorer.exe has started to stop responding and crash randomly, when it does then it doesn't restart and I can't start it from the taskmanger/run/cmd and I have to restart or re-log to get it to work again.
Running on Windows 7 Ultimate x64
hat am I doing wrong? The code stops after explorer.exe is restarted. I know this because the command prompt does not show the echo "-explorer restarted". When I look at the command prompt, the cursor seems to be on the next line, but without the normal C:UsersJohnSmith> in front of it (there is nothing in front of the cursor).
Also, if I include the command "exit" at the end of my .bat file, it doesn't seem to work. Even though if I type in exit into command prompt, the window closes.
restarting explorer.exe if taskbar icons vanish. But a big issue left me shunning to restart explorer.exe. I didn't know how it started but everything I restart windows explorer some of the icons disapeer, not all but some significant ones like Deskspace which is manageble only to right-click on the tskbar icon, and Ditto, a software that saves your Ctrl-C data for later which the pop-up selector is located on the taskbar icon, all the others are find but this all happens when I restart windows explorer. It's really annoying to log off and log back on just to config or use some of my most useful programs.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a problem where roughly 25% of the time I insert or remove a thumb drive, my cellphone, or an external hd, windows explorer restarts. This is mostly a problem for me because certain programs in my tray are not restored and I have no way to access them after that even though they are still running. Could you help me figure out why this is happening or how to access a program if it's tray icon disappears?I've got an HP Pavillion Elite HPE and I've noticed this occurring with all of my front facing USB Ports.

Has anyone else encountered this, and what does it mean? From a Google search, it looks like Restart Manager had to restart Explorer for some reason. I can't figure out why, though.
when transferring data my windows explorer usually crashed & restart again
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I access a certain folder in my hard disk, after 2-5 seconds I get a dialog box saying "windows explorer has stopped working" and I get two options "check online" and "restart windows explorer" then I copied that folder to another destination and I could access it but the following days the new destination also started giving the same problem. I used tools like "scan disk" and "defragmentation" but nothing worked. I use Windows 7 64 bit unlimited.
View 34 Replies View RelatedIt seems I can't pin folders to Windows explorer in my taskbar any more. A few weeks ago all the folders that where pinned there disappeared (even the ones that where added automatically) and if I try to add new ones nothing happens. Programs can still be pinned to the taskbar as before. What could be causing this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen sorting in explorer, the default by "Name" shows folders first, followed by files. But if I reverse the sort order (still by "Name"), it displays files first then folders below.
Is it possible to have folders always displayed first, regardless of how other sort options are chosen? Could be mistaken but back in XP didn't explorer always showed folders first?
I am looking for a way to set all my folders (viewed with win. Explorer) to use one visual look.meaning:all use Details.all use the same columns (Name, Size, Type).all with the same column widths. It would be nice to set all current folders like this, and have any newly created folders to default to this.I would like to be able to temporarily change the view using the normal methods of changing folder view, but for these changes to not stick around.

Here you can see the properties. The one on the left is the default location one which appears in explorer but shouldn't. The one on the right is the real desktop that I moved to her data drive. 2 copies appear for the one on her data drive.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhy is there a huge delay on the sorting of files/folders in windows explorer?
If I enter a folder that has many subfolders and extra files, it seems to load everything at once in alphabetical order, then there's a delay while it sorts the folders and the individual files separately, also in alphabetical order. This delay can be something like 5 seconds with just a few hundred items, and it just grows from there.
I have an LG N2A2 NAS box with a wired connection into my router. I then have two laptops that are generally connected to the router wirelessly but sometimes via cable, if I am transferring a large amount of data. The main laptop is running Win 7 Pro (64 bit) and the other one is running Vista Business. Until a couple of weeks ago the NAS would show up under computers in Windows Explorer on the Win 7 laptop, and the shared folders could be accessed. At that point I connected the other laptop via cable to the router.
Since then NAS has not been showing under computers in WE on the Win 7 laptop and I haven't been able to access the shared folders. The NAS is still showing as a media device and I can log in via IE - but I cannot get at the files directly or back up to a NAS folder. I have tried entering the device name and IP address in WE but I get the error message "Windows cannot access XYZ...". I ran the troubleshooter but it didn't work. The NAS came with a NAS detector utility and sure enough this detects the NAS but when I click "Open Network Folder" nothing happens. I have tried changing the IP of the NAS but this does not make any difference.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWindows explorer crashes with the error message "Windows Explorer has stopped working" whenever I click on any folder that has a RAW image file (.CR2) or a TIFF/PSD image file in it. It then shuts down and restarts. It only happens with these large image files, not video, audio, or pdf files.I'm running Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium. My computer did two lengthy Windows updates over the last week when I did system restarts, so maybe that has something to do with it?I spent the whole day yesterday trying different suggestions I found on the web and nothing has worked. Here's some of the things that I've tried that have been unsuccessful:
- Selected "Always show icons, never thumbnails" in "Folder options / View".- Scanned my computer with Malwarebytes. Same problem after the scan/cleanup.- Tried do a System Restore on 6 different restore points and none of them could complete the Restore successfully.- Tried to do a System Restore on the same restore points in safe mode and it still couldn't do it.- Ran SFC/ scan, still does the same thing afterwards.- Updated my video card driver.- Tried different image codec packs.- Uninstalled all image codec packs.- Some selective startup or clean boot stuff through "msconfig" that didn't help.- Plus a few other things that I can't even remember (it was a late night!) to use Photoshop and work with these images for my line of work so I'm kind of at a standstill until I get this resolved.
Like my title read, I can't open any folders in my Windows Explorer with a double click. It gives me the error message "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel." This also happens whenever I try to open any drives, such as C: drive. I can however run programs from Windows Explorer, and can right click, then choose open to open folders.
I have already done extensive searching on the subject, tried deleting autorun.ini files, tried some registry fixes, with no luck. I'm obviously running Windows 7, 32-bit, on a HP desktop.
In Windows Explorer, I can't open folders by double clicking then any more. I can still open them by expanding then pointing to collapsed sub folders etc. Double clicking folders within an application also still works.
