During Install Windows Would Not Finish Installation
Jan 1, 2011
I have just up graded the ram on my PC and Installed Windows 7 on a second hard drive. During install Windows would not finish installation. After two days of tearing my hair out I started stripping everything off the PC leaving only the bare essentials for running. This included removing one of the two sticks of Ram. Win 7 installed and is working perfect, duel booting with XP on two HDD's.The problem, put the second stick of Ram back in XP boots and runs perfectly but reboot to windows 7 and it freezes on the startup screen. Take it back out and it works no problem.

I was trying to format my computer, I had installed the OS of Windows 7 Ultimate x32 bit, and decided to take the opportunity to install a new one, but this time of x64 bits, this was my first time formatting my computer but apparently didnt finish good.
1: When first restart the computer to finish installing the OS, it Said That "The intallation of windows could not be completed. To finish installing Windows, restart the installation"
2: I try to do what it say, but when I try to restart the installation with the OS disk in, I get to the same window (not sure if that's what meant by what I just explained).
3: When I turn on my computer says something like: "select the operating system you want to use", and I get the "Windows 7" option twice.
I just found out according to format the computer i had to delete the partition that was the old OS and create a new one, but I cant get to that window, because as explained in section 2 always get the same message from section 1.

All was good until I decided I wanted the hdd's connected to the Marvell controller so that the sdd's and hdd's are on separate chips.I have been trying to get windows 7 to reinstall to the hdd's now connected to the Marvell 9128 all day. It won't finish the install. It goes all the way through to the last step, reboots and I get: (File:BootBCD. Status: 0xc0000225)

So I created an image earlier this week, sysprepped it and captured it after restarting the computer.Settings were OOBE / Generalize / Restart. When the computer had finished capturing the image to deploy studio, it restarted and went through the normal 'first run' procedures, but stopped during the configuration process saying:"Windows could not finish configuring your system. Restart the computer to try again" or something similar.I had a look at an earlier thread on here but the answer was similar to 'If you sysprep more than 3 times now it won't work'.

When I try to install win 7 64bit it won't complete the install. The screen is blank and it will stay that way for over an hour. I have read many post on this site about that problem and have tried many of the answers that were given (only having one drive connected, using only one stick of ram etc). but it still will not install all the way to where you name the computer and put in a password. When I reconnect the other drives and boot into my win 7 32bit os and go to computer and check the drive that I was trying to install the 64 bit os the files are there. Of course under users there is only Administrator, default and public. I have tried 3 different install disk that I borrowed from other people and the same thing happens.

First, my laptop is a Aspire 5250-BZ853. I received it back in October, I think...may've been earlier. But anyhow, it was working just fine yesterday until I did a Windows Update. I had to restart, and it was fine again. But then it began running sluggishly slow, and just terrible overall so I restarted it once more and that was when the problems began.
This entire day, this has been driving me nuts. I have important files on here, and I backed up most on my external harddrive a bit ago but there were a few I missed and hadn't the chance to get (ironically enough the most important, papers and such.) At first, it said my password was wrong -- as if someone had changed it! I restarted it once more, thinking it an error or something, and did that again so I restarted it again. Finally, it worked but I think it logged me in as safe mode somehow. After that, it restarted on its own and began this loop. I did a LOT of searching on Google until finally someone suggested to someone else to try pressing "ALT + F10" I think it was as it was starting, and finally I made progress. Before that, it was just going into a constant rebooting loop and I couldn't even log into safe mode. Trying to reset it back to a time it was working was futile, because it said there was no recovery time there! So that shot that idea down. At last, I got somewhere.as well. I clicked the reset to factory settings, but still keep all the files (and they would be saved to "C:Backup" and I thought it had finally worked. But now as it reinstalls, I got an error saying something about how it needed to restart or something...so when I clicked "okay" it began again, and finally it all just came to a stop on "Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation."

Using any browser starts the online connection, etc. then seems to stop though it still shows it trying to connect to the requested website. Tried, on IE9, Chrome and Opera, it jsut seems to stop or spin it wheels. The odd thing is updates either by MS own or pgm. updates seem to go through provided on their own update procedure, like AV or pgm. update. The last update was .Net one, is that possible causing issues.Anyways, I maybe forced to return to some restore point, if no solution is found. I understand SP1 can cause some problems, but haven't heard of this. Seems odd is I can still update with MS update service(auto).

I ordered a refurbished/reconditioned Packard Bell EasyNote TJ74 laptop from a very well known retailer in the UK called Currys. I received it two days ago. Initally, the laptop stayed on for all of about 5 seconds before shutting down, however I have solved that problem by Googling the text and looking here: pxe-e61:media test failure check cable. It was basically trying to boot from something other than the HDD itself, so I set the HDD to the top of the list in the BIOS.Then, the next problem I got was this: I get the "Windows is Starting..." screen, and then a setup services starting message, and then this:"Windows could not finish configuring the system. To attempt to resume configuration, restart the computer."I restart the computer and... nothing happens. No Windows installation/recovery disk came with the laptop. So, I set the laptop to boot from CD in the BIOS and, using a 64-bit edition recovery disc I found online and ran startup repair using it, apparently no problems were found, and I got a message about ensuring I didn't have any cameras etc. attached... ..Someone online recommended I disable digital driver signing, so I did that by pressing F8 at one point when it was booting... it doesn't seem to have made any difference. Safe mode doesn't work either.Currys have told me they can do nothing but send a courier to my house to pick up the laptop... I don't get a replacement, simply a refund. I needed this laptop for Monday as I start university.I've set it back to boot from HDD and I'm getting the "Windows could not finish configuring the system, please restart" message again and again and again, and the system just constantly restarts and the same message appears. It is a never-ending loop!

I've updated every time windows has told me to, and I haven't had any problems and they usually finish really quick, but this time it's stuck on the start up screen and just says something along the lines of "update 20 of 76 don't turn off the power or unplug" but it's been installing update 20 for 3 hours so I turned it off. Well actually I took the battery out because pushing the power button did nothing. Probably not the smartest thing to do but I was desperate. Even after it turned off, it just resumed the update. I can't do ANYTHING while it's updating, and I don't even know if I downloaded this update because I remember seeing a tray icon that said "downloading updates: 0%" not long ago.

My friend wanted a faster router for her new computer and she's using Ethernet now, but she is having hangups during the registration of both her new D-Link router, and her new Dazzle card that she is installing for direct TV purposes. She has Internet through her old router, Linksys, but she says it's too slow, so she got the new one. But in both cases, she hasn't been able to complete the registration process with either new item. It kicks her out after the first page, she says. She has windows 7 on a brand new, fast computer. She has viper as a virus protection. Someone else was trying to help her recently. She does not know where to start to find the problem. She fears this person may have inadvertently locked her out of completing the process, or.

message after Sysprep stating "Sysprep Fails After Deployment With: Windows could not finish configuring the system."This is a new out-of-box Lenovo T530 laptop, it came pre-loaded with Windows 7 Pro.I pulled laptop from box and inserted our Windows 7 Pro SP 1 disk and installed our copy. I then configured all settings and applications under "audit mode", created an "Unattend.xml" file using the WSIM, and copied that file into the Sysprep folder and ran "Sysprep /shutdown /oobe /generalize /unattend:unattend.xml" The error message appears after I image drive using Ghost GSS 11.5.1.2266. (I'm assuming the error would appear after boot-up regardless of imaging the machine)I have read numerous articles regarding this error and have also disabled the "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service" as suggested by many. I'm also assuming that the "Hotfix" for this issue does not apply since I am installing SP1.I am able to boot into the machine after attempting to boot into "safe mode" first (as suggested by many users), however once in, it looks as if the XML file is completely ignored.

I use the latest version of firefox and use Dodo wireless broadband and I can never get beyond 98% of a download, it's very frustrating when certain programs have to be updated to even run. According to dodo's signal charts I should be in the best location for their signals and when I contact them they refuse to take any responsibility for it. I wasted countless gigs on downloads that just won't finish. Is there anything I can do to make the downloads finish? I've tried disabling my anti virus, firewalls, tried using IE8, NOTHING WORKS!

I'm having an issue with updating my system. My computer installed some updates and wanted me to restart to fully update the system. When I turn the computer on now it shows it's updating (it never progresses past zero) and it doesn't finish the update. Now every single time I go to start my computer it constantly has to try and finish these updates. The computer will sit there for a good few minutes trying. I have no idea what the updates were.

Tolerance here, new to the forums as some of you may notice. Anyways I'm trying to install Windows 7 ultimate package on a PC that previously had Windows Vista. I've already ran the Windows Adviser program, and my PC seems fine so i went ahead and tried to install. First i tried using a burned ISO file to a DVD, with this i made my primary boot device the DVD drive, and my setup started normally. But after i selected the language, then a custom installation, and was directed to select the driver in which Windows 7 would be installed on i would get an error that reads, No device drivers were found. Make sure the installation media contains the correct drivers then click OK."
I've browsed these forums looking for someone with similar problems, and i did find them, and a lot of the threads were really annoying seeing as how so many people decided to reply with long irrelevant comments. Based on the answers from those threads I've tried burning the ISO file with a different burner (which was suggested often), but still with no prevail. So i was wondering if there was a problem with my system, or maybe my C: drive.

Yesterday I bought a new hard drive. I went from a Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB to a Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB. So, same family of HDDs. I put in a burned Windows 7 install disc, and the process went okay until after the computer restarted and moved on to 'Completing Installation'. It just sits there. It doesn't freeze - I can move the mouse and there are three little dots after 'Completing Installation' that continue animating. I can also click the red X at the top-right but it says installation cannot be canceled at that point, which makes sense.I first let it sit on 'Completing Installation' for two hours. Then I turned my computer off, unplugged everything except for my mouse and keyboard, formatted the drive to get rid of any bad data, and tried again. After three hours of 'Completing Installation', I removed my video card, all but one stick of RAM, and entered the BIOS to see if there were any options relating to my hard drive. The only options I found were the options to choose a hard drive - I only have the one - and a couple of Plug and Play options. I restarted setup again, formatted again, and started the process over. Then I went to bed.
This morning, seven hours later, it was still sitting at 'Completing Installation'. I tried taking the install disc out to see if the install would stop or throw up an error, but it didn't make a peep. I took the install disc to my other computer to copy the data to a folder on the desktop, to see if there was an error. Everything copied fine. Plus, when I burned the DVD, I burned it at the lowest possible speed and had the program verify it. Everything came up fine. One thing I'll mention - when I start setup, I'm given an option to install a driver. I decided to choose that option just to see if it might provide any clarity. It then showed me the contents of my hard drive. Program Files was in there, My Documents was in there. So setup is doing something, it's just not finishing for some reason.

Can W/7 install to a SCSI drive without the driver installation (F6)? I'm just about to install W7, and it seems to detect all 3 SCSI drives without the driver for the LSI 1030 Ultra SCSI adapter.
I'm just a little surprised how simple this is, usually you have to supply the additional driver...

So I have searched around and none of the solutions worked, but let me get to the basics:
DFI LanPark DK 790 FX Motherboard
3.2 GHz AMD Athlon X2 64 bit processor
4 GB DDR2 RAM
Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS Video card with 720 MB Ram
Hard drives:
Western Digital Raptor @ 70 GB (going to be used as the OS drive)
Western Digital Caviar @ 80 GB
Maxtor 120 GB IDE drive (the other 2 are both SATA drives)
Sony DVD R/RW Drive
using onboard audio
Okay so I am running a fresh, clean install (the only "information" is on the IDE drive, and that's my backup for iTunes and Steam) using the Windows 7 Ultimate DVD. The DVD kept hanging @ "completing installation", so I took it to my laptop, and using the instructions on here, made a bootable flash drive.I just tried completing installation from the bootable flash, and it still hangs at that step. When it hangs, it's in a locked up state.. I can't even press Shift + F10 (nothing happens). Also, the CD correctly makes the "System Allocated" section on the drive. Also, i removed all USB drives, and am running both a PS/2 mouse and keyboard.

So my 64bit fujitsu lifebook laptop has run into some crazy problems the last few days. Including freezing every several minutes for ages. BSOD a few times a day. Nothing along the taskbar opening. Task Manager making the whole screen turn black etc.I researched alot and tried many things, including chkdsk which just takes to long for it to be realistic (i judge it would take about 1 week to finish)That being said, i want to do a repair install of windows 7, but when i use my universal disc (which has 32bit and 64bit windows 7 on it) it returns the error after the compatibility check:
- You can't upgrade 64-bit Windows to a 32-bit version of Windows. To upgrade, obtain a 64-bit version of the installation disc, or go online to see how to install Windows 7 and keep your files and settings.
- 32-bit Windows cannot be upgraded to a 64-bit version of Windows. To upgrade, obtain a 32-bit version of the Windows installation disc. is there a workaround for this? I know people can make a universal disc easily, so maybe there is a way to do this in reverse

I have a process that is always running on my PC (Win7 sp1) that I can shutdown gracefully anytime and will also shutdown gracefully when the computer is restarted or shutdown if only it is given enough time. I'd like to add a little time (maybe 20 seconds) between the time the computer sends the shutdown command to all open processes and the time it sends the kill now command to any processes that are left open.If my process shuts down gracefully it restarts in about 5 seconds, but when it shuts down ungracefully it takes about 10 minutes.

Of course I have rebooted my pc, and the other more obvious issues concerning this but every time I go in and try it does the same thing. I really need to get some programs off my pc! Box that comes up that states that I have to wait for the other program to finish uninstalling before I can do another in which it never is finished. It just sits there like that.
