Does disk manger only shrinks a drive to so much? I have a 1tb. I want to shrink the c partition down to 200 or 300 gb. Disk manger will only shrink the drive down to 550gb.

View 9 Replies View Relatedi am a newbie as far as computer hardware is concerned. after struggling for days to install windows 7 onto my new pc which came without and 0s installed,[code] it list the 465 which i use for storage but the 30gb where the 0s is installed dosent show. surely if the hard drive had a problem the 465gb wouldnt show as it an te 30gb makes up te 500gb? i tried selecting the 465gb volume enter and then exiting diskpart then it says BOOT MGR IS MISSING PRESS CTRL +ALT+DEL TO RESTART..so basiclly i have read almost all forums concerning this and followed most of the steps listed above for however mine says boot manager missing or corrupt, wen ever i run start up repair its says start up repair cannot repair this computer automatically.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a brand new Sony SVT13112FXS - hard drive is a hybrid of 500 GB HDD and 32 GB SDD.I was attempting to reformat it to get all of the anti-virus stuff off, except when I tried to reformat no disks were shown in the reformat tool. It asked for drivers, so I assumed I'd need to install the SATA/chipset drivers. I downloaded them from the Sony website but it wouldn't allow me to install them (from a flash drive). Specifically the error is "No drives were found. Click load driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation."In my troubleshooting I (stupidly) marked the wrong partition as active and got the dreaded "bootmgr is missing" upon restart. I attempted to repair using the windows 7 disk as a recovery tool and selected "startup repair" 3 times, but it still does not work.I am able to get into command prompt and I am assuming I can inactivate the (wrong) active partition there. However, when I go into DISKPART and type "list disk", all that shows up is my flash drive that I am attempting to install windows from - the computers hard drive does NOT show up here.I will also happily completely reformat instead of repairing, but I cannot do that since I can't get the disks to show up in the reformat tool.

View 5 Replies View RelatedThis is the first time am posting in this forum. Internet is working fine in my machine in wired modem as well as wireless wi-fi modem. But whenever i try to connect an USB modem data card for internet, it gets installed for mass storage alone and nothing gets installed for internet. And yes, the USB port works GOOD for all pen drives. This problem occurs only when i connect an USB data card and the following error message pops up. View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a generic System 7 64 bit system with a 1 TB SATA drive. It has one hard drive which I have partitioned into 4 partitions, with C: being where I put all the system software. The board has mulitple SATA ports.Change considered: cloning the C: partition onto a new SSD so that I can get the performance boost of an SSD. There are some heat problems with existing hard drive so I probably need to change it out, so I would also like to clone the D:, E:, and F: partitions to a new hard drive.I have cloned a single physical drive to another physical drive, and the software (Ghost, or the like) usually handles it ok, so that all I need to do is adjust some partition sizes, and then disconnect the old hard drive and everyting is good. This includes cloning a single hard drive with multiple partitions to being cloned to a new single hard drive with identical numbers of partitions.Compared to my prior experience, is there something different about cloning one partition only vs cloning the whole drive. My proposed plan is:
1) Install SSD
2) clone C: to SSD only
3) clone D: E: F: of old drive to new drive.
4) remove old drive.
My backup software's profile database is expecting to backup to H:, which was the drive letter for my external backup drive back in XP. This drive comes up in Windows 7 as K, because Windows 7 has given my four usb card reader drives the letters F,G,H,I.
Disk Management will not show these four card reader drives unless media is inserted (connected vs. disconnected). I have changed the letters for F,G,I to T,U,W, but only because I have those types of cards (SD, CF, MS)...I do not have an XD or SmartMedia card for the one dang drive I really need to change.
What are my options, other than buying the cheapest SM card I can find to make the drive visible for this task? The SmartSyncPro database has many profiles, so remapping all those to point to K would be a major hassle.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy C: drive has been displaying a size of around 60 gb with 40 free even though it's a 300 gb drive. I thought the issue would resolve with a clean install, so I did that. Now I have a fresh install and i need to reinstall everything, but the problem isn't fixed. View 9 Replies View RelatedMy HP laptop HD crashed, am trying to replace it with a Kingston HyperX 120GB SSD. I do not have Windows installation disks, only have Windows Recovery Disks. All installation instructions I have found for SSD's is for cloning, which I cannot do since the HD is deadI have installed the SSD, booted into BIOS, this simple BIOS version doesn't allow me to change anything on the HD, but it does recognize it and let me do a HD test, so it does recognize the SSD. I then put the Windows Recovery disk in the CD drive, attempted to boot up, but the CD drive just spins and spins but never boots up. I thought the CD drive might be bad, so I tried an external USB CD drive with the Recovery disk, but it does the same (just spins). I even got a new Windows 7 installation disk (from another PC) to see if it will boot from it, but get nothing but a spinning CD I have not done anything yet to the HyperX SSD, haved not formatted or partitioned it.I thought this would be done by Recovery on the OS installationThe BIOS is set up to first boot from the CD drive, so the boot order is not the issue.

I think at one time I tried to do this but did not know how. How do I do make a back up? Does it go on a disk ? Can you give me detail step by step on how to do? I don't even know what a back up is . It shows it is in the Lonova D and there is an error code 0x81000005. Is this why this is happening below?
I have windows 7 laptop and in the computer section it shows disk f disk c and lenova disk d and it is in red . It shows 7.81 mb free space of 28.9 gb. When I start my computer this comes up and says my space is full and shows the recycle bin but it is empty. Don't know much about computers and don't know what that disk is for . Can you explain before I erase something or do something I should not do.

When I got home I tried the disk in my ps3 and all the pictures were there I then tried it in the e drive of my pc but it doesn't recognize the disk at all. I am guessing the Optiarc DVD is it. I went into properties and looked at its status and it gave me "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. I have unchecked "Use AutoPlay for all media and devices" in the Control Panel. I did this a week ago when I started getting these popups and it seemed to work till today when it all started up again. I just noticed that the popup is not appearing, but the drive is appearing and disappearing from my file manager (I use Q-dir).

During the installation I left my Samsung S2 HD 500gb plugged in.After the installation the windows didn't find a mass storage controller drive and my HD appeared as Local Drive ( F: ). When I try to access it, this msg comes up: you need to format the disk in drive f before you can use it. I tried plugging in all usb port I could find. And even the win xp 32bit showed the same msg. I also tried the "Easy Recovery Pro". But it didn't worked. When a click on any of the recovery option the software doesnot find any hard drive in my pc. Then I tried the "GetDataBack for NTFS". After 24 hours of scanning, it didn't find any of my files. Tonight, I will try the "diskdigger" and the "Recuva". But I am not putting too much faith on those software due some post I read here. I really need to recover same work data.

Does it mean the old HDD was buggered and I need to do something to the new one to sort out boot order or anything? or is this not a HDD issue. I have two broken compaq presarios here.
