Disk Transfer Windows 7 From Backup?

Feb 4, 2011

My 160 GB Win7 drive on my laptop failed (single partition), buckup that I created on a 750 GB drive using EASUS Partition Master COPY. The backup drive is FULLY BOOTABLE, I've been booting into Windows 7 from an eSata external interface with no issues. It has a partition with my backed up Win7 installation and the rest is just unallocated spaceMy problem is restoring the backup to my new 160 GB drive. I've tried every which way to copy the partition over but it's never bootable - when I try to repair from the Windows CD using the GUI or command line tools it never works out

Windows 7 Performance Disk Data Transfer Rate

Oct 6, 2011

I have a Dell XPS 8000 with a quad core, 8 gig ram, 7 pro, 6gb hdd and 6gb controller. I've tried SSD's that were 6gb and still having issues with slow performance. My main program is Arcview Mapping. I"ve tweaked the cache, I've put the Win swapfile on a second 6gb drive, tried 'no swapfile' so it all runs in ram, just about everything I can think of. We have gigabit nic, switch to switch, etc. It uses a lot of updates to the screen straight from internet, but local files should load faster. I have a copy on my local 6gb drive then sync to server at eod trying to r/o net latency. Majority of work is to/from local drive, but still can't wring out more speed. When I open Arcview, it takes 1.5 minutes to get to a workable screen. File size I'm loading doesn't make a diff.

Windows Backup And Restore Onto (a) BD-R Disk(s)?

Has anyone tried to burn a System Image (with Windows Backup and Restore) onto a BD-R disk?I have 52.5 GB used on my C drive (Windows 7 x64). I have a clean install, with windows updates, and it would be phenomenal if I could use my WH12LS30 (LG) internal blu-ray burner for the System Image creation, since I only have 1 harddrive. When I try a BD-R (and this is my 1st try at System Image burn) , I see "The media needs to be formatted before it can be used...". Disk Data Transfer Rate, 5.9 On An SSD?

Feb 2, 2010

I am wondering if there is something wrong with my windows 7 ratings. My SSD is in perfect working order and everything is blazing fast, but for some reason I only get a 5.9 for a rating. I am using the Intel X25-V SSD. I get the advertised speeds across the board when I benchmark it so I don't know what is pulling down my ratingOthers are getting higher ratings with the same exact drive, and the drive itself is functioning perfectly and I am getting the proper speeds from it, so maybe it has something to do with W7 settings?Mobo: ASUS M4A77TDRam: 4GB Gskill DDR 1600 (7.5)CPU: BFG Geforce GTS-250 (7.0)Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 Quad-core Black Edition 3.2 GHz (7.3)HDD: X25-V (5.9)OS: Windows 7-Pro

Will Windows 7 Backup Of Important Files Still Restore If Disk Crashes?

Dec 2, 2012

I was reading yesterday that if I want to restore a file, I need to go to the file and right click and select restore. If the file does not exist anymore then one would go to the directory where the file originally was and select restore (or something to that effect). I have two disks and I want to save some important files from one disk to the other. I have always used Windows 7 Backup but now I am not sure I am doing the right thing. What would happen if my main disk crashed and there was absolutely no hope of salvaging it? Could I still restore from the back up made by Windows 7 Backup? I won't know the file names or directory structure if one disk goes down completely.

Backup Disk Is Not Bootable

Jul 9, 2011

To improve the reliability of my system, I bought an identical second hard drive, which Windows 7 recognized. I then used a CD-based cloning program to clone the second drive to be identical to the first. If I disconnect the first drive, I can successfully boot from the second drive. With both drives connected, I can boot from the first and the BIOS recognizes both drives, but Windows does not see the second drive. Can I fix this so that Windows recognizes both drives?I plan to run the cloning program once a week. Is there a better way? My computer has RAID available, but the backup disk is not bootable.

Need To Factory Reset Computer But Have No Backup Disk

Jan 27, 2012

I bought a computer on craigslist a while back and it's been working great and all but lately it started slowing down really badly. I play WoW and Skyrim mostly. I used to be able to play at 60 fps or so now I can drop from 30-15 fps. I considered doing a system restore but there weren't any restore points because there weren't any being created every week or so for some reason. So really the only option I have now is to completely restore my computer to it's original settings. When I first bought the computer the guy who sold it to me told me that he'd wiped the hard drives clean and that's what I'm trying to do right now but he never gave me a back up disk or a disk for the OS which is what I'm really worried about. He had windows 7 ultimate installed. I'm afraid that if I try to do a factory reset that I won't have an OS to reinstall onto my computer.

These are my specs if they matter any.

Failing Disk Deletes Backup Data?

May 31, 2012

I manage a large array of disks and rely on Robocopy via batch files to backup only changed data. This has served me well for a year or so now. However, last week I had a drive go flakey. For some reason all of the folders on the drive beginning with letters K through Z got trashed. Since no one realized this the backup script ran on schedule and promptly deleted all folders on my backup drive beginning with letters K through Z.

I've used a couple of backup programs in the past and I'm fairly sure this issue is not adressed.

Failing Disk Deletes Backup Data?

Jun 1, 2012

drives partially failed and deleted all folders beginning with letters K through Z. When my backup script ran it deleted all of the same folders on the backup drive. I received a reply from a user (don't have access to the name right now) who suggested a freeware sync package which most likely would work. However, company policy states that no freeware is to be run on our systems. While I could probably get away with it a question comes to mind - Why isn't this a standard feature in commercially available backup software. There must be a name for this type of option. Does anyone know of a commercially available package and / or what this feature might be called? I can't be the only person who has run into this problem.

Back Up Function Does Not Backup The Desired Disk

Nov 18, 2009

I'm expieriencing a problem I can't fix.

There raises a flag that I have to make a Backup. I thought and read this is a well worked out function in Windows 7, let's try !

But as you expect and the reason why I'm here, there is a difficulty.

The function wants to backup 2 hard drives (C: and H:) and I can't uncheck H:. C: is my windows disk and H: is my disk where I keep movies and stuff . I don't want to backup H: . I only want to back up C:!

What I read on several places is that Windows 7 Automatically selects the drivers which contains System files (in the back up function he calls H: a system disk). In Disk Management it also says Disk H: System/Active/Primary Partition.

I am for sure I installed Windows 7 on C:. I didn't do anything on H:.

Also an other thing I found out is that MSE uses the biggest drive for downloading updates and installing the updates (use it as source). But I don't know if that is the reason it is called a system disk.

I want to make my backup this way, how can I only make a backup of C:

Outboard Hard Disk Filled By Backup Files

Apr 9, 2012

I have a 500 GB SimpleTech hard drive (outboard) that I recently discovered to be full. Upon exploring its contents, I discovered many backup files and have no idea how/why they were created. I deleted several of the older files to make room for files I wished to store, and then explored further. On the hard drive, I find one folder named HPLAPTOP01 and another named WindowsImageBackup, between them holding many GB worth of files with names: Backup Set yyyy-mm-dd xxxxxx. Is Win 7 creating these backups, or is the SimpleTech drive doing it?
