Desktop Changes By Itself - Screen Turing Black Every Few Minutes
Feb 8, 2012
My desktop changed by itself and when I am online the screen goes to black every few minutes even though I am sure I disabled the sreensaver. My antivirus icon also disappeared from the website.
have a new hp 300 touchsmart computer ( less than a week old ) and i have disabled the screensaver thinking it would solve the problem i am having , but the problem still exists . while i am watching a Internet or other video the screen will dim slightly and a few minutes later go black . if i move the mouse the screen will return to normal . anybody know how i might be able to fix this via some setting or other way ?
I'm getting a black screen a few minutes after the desktop appears, however this doesn't seem to happen when I boot in safe mode. How can I fix this? I've already tried restoring the system, but I get an error since the screen went black before the process began so I was forced to reboot.I doubt it's a GPU problem, since last night everything was working ok. I also doubt it's a monitor problem, because if it was, then the screen would be always black, no exceptions.
It if very annoying because I am trying to do shit and then my screen will freeze for a few seconds, then go black for a few second, then flashes a couple times, and then starts to work again. the entire process takes about 15 to 20 seconds. The error message that comes up says
Display driver stopped responding and has recovered.Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 295.73 stopped responding and has successfully recovered.I've tried re-installing the drivers for my card but it didn't work. I have an NVIDIA Quadro NVS 420.
After I type my password to log in I get a black screen with a mouse for about 2 minutes before the desktop loads. The thing I found that seems to be causing the problem is my wireless card. If turn wireless off windows will go directly from login screen to desktop, with wireless on I get this long delay. I'm using Windows 7 Ult. x64 and my wireless card is Atheros AR5007EG.
My computer screen has been going black for every 5 minutes, but I've already set all the options to never or to 0 minutes, but still the black screen just appears when I am watching video or whatever that I am doing without using the mouse.
I have a dv7 notebook with Win 7 Home Premium installed on it. Everything is running fine, except a couple of days ago the notebook began to take too damn long to boot up when restarting or just when powering it on.
I noticed it gets "stuck" on a black screen, just like a blank DOS screen, for about 2 minutes before booting up Windows.
I have tried downloading new BIOS from HP website, resetting the BIOS settings, changing the boot order but nothing really works. It always stays on the black screen for around two minutes and then Windows boots up normally. No text is shown, nothing at all.
I have Windows 7 on my laptop and after I start it up and enter my password to login to windows I have to wait another 10-15 minutes for my desktop to appear. It's just a black screen, but the kicker is that I can move my mouse and see it on screen.
For the past few weeks I have noticed my laptop becoming slower and slower. As of a few days ago it has been ridiculously slow and is sometimes unresponsive to commands or keyboard. It used to go straight to a black screen with only the cursor after start up but now sometimes starts up, although very slow. Now my desktop started doing it too. I don't know what's going on with them. I had not had any virus protection for a while and recently installed webroot complete 2012 on both of them and scanned, finding nothing. My desktop sometimes loads into safe mode when I tell it to, however it still is extremely slow, SAme with he laptop. And if I try to start up the desktop on normal is stays on black screen. I have noticed that sometimes I will get the "Microsoft windows isn't responding" pop up. My control alt delete doesn't work on either of them either, it pos up suing something like " the control alt delete function could not be started blah blah blah".
Scenario is. Activated Windows 7 N Ultimate as host machine (in other room) Activated Windows 7 Ultimate as client machine, am using it now.
If I remote desktop in after logging in locally on the host, I get the black screen for approx 2 minutes at which point it closes with an error. If I remote desktop in whilst the host is logged out I can connect and log in fine. If I detach from a running remote desktop session and try to relogin again, I get the black screen sympton again and have to logout locally on the host to be able to login again on remote desktop. If I try to login locally on the host whilst the black screen is up here I get rejected due to remote desktop service been busy. I have to wait for the window to close.
A few days ago my home built windows 7 computer did an automatic download. After the download installed itself I tried to turn on my computer. I got a black screen on my monitor. Was this download a virus?
I am stuck at a black screen with a white arrow you can move with your mouse. right click does nothing. heres what i tried so far just linking to another forum so its easier to see where i am at. really want to avoid having to reinstall windows.
I connect to my work computer through a VPN and remote desktop, and often times remote desktop (I use NLA) works once, but after the first disconnect I can't login remotely. Power settings on the computer are set so it never goes asleep and never turns off the display.
In addition, when this happens, I find the computer has a black screen either before or after login when I go into my office to login directly to the computer.
This problem seems to occur on several computers, including on Win 7 Pro x32 and x64.
then the desktop finally loads. It only lasts about 60 seconds before BSOD'ing again. Safe Mode seems ok, but I was in the process of typing up this thread when safe mode shut down on me randomly. I've tried restoring to earlier points and running malware scans. Minidumps are included.
Back when it was released, I installed Windows 8 preview on a new partition of my Windows 7 laptop. Ive been switching back and forth no problem, but about a month ago when trying to log in, I typed in my password and was stuck at the black screen with a cursor. After a few restarts and startup repairs it sorted itself out. Now, it's happened again, but this time, startup repair isn't doing the trick. It reports no OS found in the error. I am dual booting between 7 and 8, and in trying to login to 7, typing my password, it again brings me to the black screen with a cursor. I cannot press Ctrl+Alt+Del to reach the task manager and manually start explorer.exe, and same thing happens in safe mode.
I have checked my C drive and saw there were backups of my explorer.exe, so I tried to switch them up with the current one. At one point, I could get to my desktop and see all of my taskbar icons, however hovering over the taskbar would show a loading cursor and I could not open anything. Restarting again brought me back to the black screen. I have tried fixboot, fixmbr, BCD editor, etc, to no avail. I have also tried "last known good configuration", system restore (which reports no restore points...) and checking the registry to verify explorer.exe is the only listing in the Shell file. Also, virus scan MBAM and others: No viruses.
Errors: At one point with the black screen, I let it sit, and a few errors came up after an hour or so... dwm.exe unable to start correctly error 0xc000185, explorer.exe unable to start correctly error 0xc000185, then when pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del, "Failure to display security and shut down options". In viewing one of the error details, it reported problem event name InPageCoFire, damaged file name propsys.dll. I replaced that file and a clean one and no change. Right now I am using Windows 8 boot. I can see all of my files are still in the Windows 7 partition.
bought a dell touchscreen inspiron one 2320, thought it would be better than my two year old dell (don't see it yet). i am an average user and i am not impressed. anyway the question is why does the monitor go black after 1 minute? i have done all the normal stuff in power options. change power saving settings, change when the computer sleeps. choose when to turn off display. turn hibernation on or off. i upload to Internet and it the shutting down makes it frustrating....
I have an MSI Laptop which I bought about a year ago was running fine and at the beginning of September started having the issue of a black screen, for about 45-60 seconds, between the windows logo and the desktop loading.
The laptop has:
Intel Core i7 460M Processor 2.53Ghz Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-bit 4G DDR3 memory Nvidia GeForce GT 540M 15.6" 1366x768 HD Intel® HD Graphic VGA
[code].....
The above 3 files exist in the directories asked for so not sure why it can't load them.Although the laptop works fine when it's loaded, the additional time on this blackscreen is just winding me up as it didn't do it before.
my desktop screen suddenly has a 3 inch vertical black line which splits the screen in two and makes it impossible to move the cursor from the right side to the left.
I know there have been a number of posts on this subject but I have been unable to find a solution. I have 2 Windows 7 machines, both running SP1.
My HP Pavilion is running 64-bit and my Dell Latiude E6400 is running 32-bit. I can successfully RDP from my Dell and even my Apple iPad (via an RDP client) into my HP Pavilion. However, the problem is that when I try to RDP from my Pavilion into my Dell I get connected but all I see is a BLACK from the Dell machine. The only thing i can see is the Status bar at teh top telling me that i am connected. A few moments later I get a popup message telling me that the machines have failed to communicate.
I have confirmed that RDP settings are identical on the Pavilion and Dell. I have even downgraded the Dell NVIDIA graphics driver to an older version based on the recommended version on the Dell support web site.
I have a relatively new Windows 7 enterprise 64-bit install. This is a domain account, so I have to do ctrl+alt+del to login. After entering my password, the welcome notice comes up (with the spinning circle), and it takes quite a while for the desktop to appear. It can be as long as a couple of minutes. This is a pretty fast rig (i5 2500K/GA-Z68X-UD3H/F312800CL8D-8GBXM) and when I first set it up it, my desktop appeared about 10 seconds after hitting the power button, including login.
Is the use of the domain account the likely cause of the delay, or could this be something else like automatic update? I'm not sure how I would go about finding out.
My laptop just crashes randomly when I'm using it. It's frustrating, and it costs me a lot of time. When it's booting my keyboard becomes unresponsive so I have to wait for the countdown to run out (can't just hit enter into boot normally). Sorry for requesting help as this is my first post, but I'm really getting annoyed at this. It's been going on for quite some time.If you guys can solve this problem,. If there is any other information you guys need,Might be helpful to note that I never had this many bluescreens ever. I bought this laptop 2 years ago and it's been performing fine until about 5 weeks ago. I get about 3 bluescreens per day right now.I am also experiencing a slowdown issue when my computer boots up. Sometimes the mouse just kinda.. i'm not sure how to describe it. It becomes really laggy, and I guess if you were playing a video game it'd be like my framerate dropping to about 8 fps. Every time I click there's a beep, and every time I move my mouse there is a series of beeps.
I have a fresh install of Windows 7 ultimate 32bit that crashes with a blue screen after a few minutes on startup.i have installed it on my new 1.5 TB Samsung hard drive.I already have windows XP running on my older hard drive (which im running now) without any issues.I have completed disk checks along with emmory checks and everything is in order.
My system specs are:
System Summary Processor Name : Intel Pentium III Xeon processor Speed : 2657 MHz
My pc started crashing all of a sudden, it was running fine for about 3 weeks and then it just started blue screening every 10 minutes. it could be my tv card as I had to use third party drivers or my firewire audio interface that is running with vista 64bit drivers.
every ten to fifteen minutes, whether i be watching a full-screen video from Internet or playing a video game, my window gets minimized back to the desktop. i've been experiencing this problem for a few months now. i've tried searching to see if anyone else has had similar problems, but none of the solutions i've found (uninstalling avg, no screen saver) have done anything for me. i took a screenshot of the processes running in my task manage
Have just moved from XP to 7. Everything is perfect except for one minor detail - the screen saver : I choose, I preview (there it is), I set the minutes, but when the time is up I get a completely black screen - and no saver. I am afraid I am a bit confused about your TSG SysInfo.recommendation - I have right clicked and hit Copy, but where exactly has it gone?
My laptop usually lasts about 5 minutes before seeing the blue screen appear. The error continues to say it has to do with the ataport.sys. Here is the error message I received during the last BSOD: [code]
Windows 7 Home Premium hangs for a prolonged period of time at the shutdown screen. It normally takes a few seconds only, but it now begins to hang for several minutes at the shutdown screen.
My wife did something on her PC (she doesn't know exactly for sure what & can't explain it completely me), and now she can't boot up her PC. She says it had something to do with changing the security settings for a program she uses a lot so it wouldn't keep asking her if she wanted to launch it, and that's when it told her to restart the PC, then it wouldn't boot up anymore. When you reboot, the screen eventually goes to a black screen saying "Windows failed to start. A software or hardware error may be the cause" or something to that effect. It offers me the option to "Launch Startup Repair" or "Start Windows Normally".If I Launch Startup Repair, nothing much happens --- it says it's adding files, then it looks like Windows is about to boot up, then it goes to a black screen for a long time & nothing happens.
If I choose Start Windows Normally, it simply reboots & eventually brings me back to the same screen again.I've tried using rebooting and selecting ESC to get to the boot menu, then installing the Win 7 installation disc & selecting the DVD drive, then I select thelanguage, then I click Repair, but it sits there forever with nothing happening.I also tried an outside boot disc I found on the web & it doesn't launch.
i have a Dell Vostro 1520 and im running Windows 7 with a 32bit. It is only 2 years only. It started about a month ago. I was on my laptop viewing and deleting some unwanted photos i had. A few minutes later i realized that i deleted a photo that i wanted. So i went to the recycling bin and restored that photo. When i went back to my photos and went into the album, it said something like i do no have permission to access this folder. Please press continue to get full permission. I clicked continue and i got the access i should have. Now i tried many more random folders and the same thing happened. Also when i came out of the folders, the folders had a big pad lock sign on the front of it. After that i shut down the laptop and went to turn it back on. The laptop will power on like normal. I can press f12 for the boot options. which i have already tried many times. I also tried it in safe mode and what-not, but still nothing. I can hear the fan and stuff spinning up like normal. I have also put and CD into the CD ROM and that spins up fine. So after the Dell logo on the screen, it goes black and stays that way with the cursor. You can move the cursor around no problem. I should also add that the battery light is and has been flashing for a good wile. Its flashing orange and blue. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the battery. Because my laptop will not charge with the AC adapter in it for many months now. It will only stay powered on with the AC adapter plugged in. One more thing. The LED lights over the buttons. None of the are flashing, besides one, on the far left. And i cant find out anywhere what this LED light stands for.
