Have just moved from XP to 7. Everything is perfect except for one minor detail - the screen saver : I choose, I preview (there it is), I set the minutes, but when the time is up I get a completely black screen - and no saver. I am afraid I am a bit confused about your TSG SysInfo.recommendation - I have right clicked and hit Copy, but where exactly has it gone?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'll be unable to click on anything except for windows already open. I can bring up the alt-tab screen, but then once I let go of that tab button, it'll stay there and I can't alt-tab again or switch the window previews. I try to bring up task manager via control alt delete, and task manage will come up, but it'll be completely blank. The only solution I have found to this is to either restart computer or log off. If I move the mouse to a part of the desktop, it'll have the blue circle instead of the pointer.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm going to be installing a new SSD into my laptop fairly soon (replacing the current HDD and putting the HDD in my optical drive). I am also upgrading from 7 Professional to 7 Enterprise, and with this comes many, many questions.First of all, how would I go about installing an OS onto a completely blank drive? I have experience with system partitioning and installing a second OS, but never onto a clean slate. Would I use a SATA-USB cable and install the OS through that, or would I have to burn the ISO onto a CD and install through my optical drive once I installed the SSD? Secondly, would I be able to use a system backup of my Professional system to restore my programs and files to the Enterprise filesystem? Or would I have to install everything from scratch?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI tried to upgrade from Vista (64bit) to Windows 7 and it got up to generating compatibility Report - which was completely blank. The only way to proceed was to hit 'Close' - which then cancelled the installation!
Previous to this, I had also tried to download & run the Upgrade Advisor. When trying to run it, it just did nothing at all - didn't even open up. I disabled my Kaspersky anti-virus and disabled any Windows security. I was trying to avoid doing a clean install - but maybe only option. Any ideas?
I've been using my Dell Inspiron 17R for around 2 months ago and it's a fantastic laptop, I mainly use it for videogames, music and movies/TV shows and it has ran flawlessly thus far.
Starting yesterday however, problems began to occur. I could boot the laptop up as per usual and access the Internet, play games, watch movies etc. but after around 5 minutes everything would suddenly become unresponsive. Both my mouse and trackpad wouldn't allow me to click at all, I could however move the mouse around the screen completely fine. The keyboard would also not work - I tried opening the task manager via Ctrl+Alt+Del as well as closing windows with Alt+F4 or trying to shutdown via the Windows key and nothing would work. Instead the cursor would change to the "loading" symbol and it would pretty much just do nothing.
The first time this happened I was browsing the Internet and it just got stuck on "Waiting for Cache" or something to that likeliness, I then noticed the rotating circle that shows a page loading had also halted and was then forced to reboot manually as I couldn't even click the Windows button. Another test I tried was watching a downloaded video - it literally just stopped playing around 4 minutes in. The screen just halted on a single frame even though the pause button hadn't been pressed - trying to click anything didn't work (as usual).
I tried rebooting it multiple times (I was sadly forced to use the power button) and it began to repeat every single time. It would work for a few minutes before completely freezing (minus the ability to pointlessly move the mouse around the screen). Occasionally a window would pop up above the task bar saying that the "Microsoft Windows application has become unresponsive". Sometimes the taskbar would then disappear and the laptop would shut itself down but the end result was always the same.
I found that the same problem did not occur when booting in Safe Mode with Networking, however there was some noticeable slowdown. I downloaded and used many anti-viruses/malware to scan my machine and I'm almost positive that there is nothing of the such on the computer (although in all fairness, the scans were running so slowly I could only make it to about 20% on each before giving up). Other solutions I've tried included:
1. Manually ending high memory usage tasks via the manager
2. Using CCleaner to fix my registry in Safe Mode
3. Left the laptop off overnight in a hope it would just fix itself
4. Unplugged everything from the ports of the laptop
5. Rebooted via the Restart, Shutdown and power buttons
I am running Win 7 Pro x64, i7, MSI Twin Frozr II R6870 1st Monitor is a Dell SP2309W (dvi on video card to dvi on monitor)2nd Monitor is a HP W2338 LCD Monitor (dvi on video card to hdmi port on monitor)The 2nd monitor (HP) goes off after a few minutes, but if I'm playing a video on that monitor the sound is still plays, so I know it's still running in the background. I noticed that the picture on the monitor doesn't fill the whole screen like my 1st monitor does. So I checked the resolution and it's set the highest resolution it will go.I've checked the power settings by setting everything to never sleep or hibernate.I also checked the Graphic settings, but everything looks fine. I also updated the drivers for the video card. Both monitors are set to 60htz because that's the highest it will go.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy wife and I each have user accounts and we "Switch User" back and forth all the time, and sometimes leave it at the logon screen with our two icons to click on.
In XP, the screensaver would run on the logon screen, but I'm noticing that nothing happens from the logon in 7. We have use the photo screensaver which makes it a digital picture frame of sorts, but if you leave it at the logon, you'll come back an hour later to see our two icons waiting for you.
Has the screensaver on logon been removed or is there a configuration I'm missing?

Everything shows up fine until the welcome screen after that it normally used to fade to the desktop but now it goes blank. The screen in Black with only the mouse pointer. Its not hung, i can move the mouse pointer. Then after a minute or so it advances to the desktop. Everything on the desktop loads up in less than 5s. The PC runs fine, it is really fast as there are only a few programs, but only boots slow. My total boot time is about 3-5 min. I think it should be like in a minute or so.I have not tweaked much with the system but have installed a few programs like MS office, Nero, Acrobat and Photoshop. These are the only heavy programs in the PC right now. The only games on the PC are AC1 and AC2. I have uninstalled my graphic driver and reinstalled. I already minimized the programs in the msconfig>startup to the minimum. I have run ccleaner, spybot s&d, Antimalware and i also have a trial copy of Kaspersky AV (upgrading later to 1-year license). there are no peripherals attached during boot except the USB keyboard and mouse. A printer is attached too but is most of the time turned off.

The fans power up as do , I think , the DVD drive and there is a power light showing on the external drive . The usb printer also has power.Obviously there could be several causes for this , including failure of the monitor, video cards , ...etc.However , before I start digging into the case and , as I am having OS problems , I am assuming that this result of a completely black screen cannot be explained by an OS failure to boot !Is that a reasonable assumption ? If the problem was the failing to boot , I assume I would still get some DOSS-TYPE script appearing on the monitor .

I've already tried restoring the system, but I get an error since the screen went black before the process began so I was forced to reboot.I doubt it's a GPU problem, since last night everything was working ok. View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been using my laptop for a while now and had a friend install Windows 7 onto it (because i'm quite rubbish with this sort of thing) and everything has been going great until a few weeks ago.
I loaded it up one day and everything is going fine until it reaches the part where it's supposed to load the log on screen. Instead of a log on screen all i am getting is a black screen with the cursor. Now i can't give you specs to my computer or anything of the like because i simply don't have access to it but i can give as much aid as possible to help find the problem.
One of the things that happens is that when the black screen & cursor appears if i move the mouse or push any buttons the screen goes VERY dim as if i've put it into a lower power mode or i've taken out the power cable. If i push the power button to turn it off even if it's just a tap on the button the screen will go off immediatly even if the laptop is still running.
One of the green lights that i believe is showing if the hard drive is busy or not flashes during the process but after a minute or so of the black screen it'll stop flashing altogether.
I've tried all three safe modes with all the same results, F8 to system repair has given me no love with startup repair finding NOTHING wrong, memory check running through the process only for the same thing to happen and system restore has no restore points to go to.
I've looked for answers in several places and some say i have to use sticky keys to get the screen to come on but the problem is that as of last nights use i turned sticky keys off for a few minutes so i could play a game and forgot to turn them back on afterwards. I've taken a look around the net and can't find a fix to my problem. Reinstall simply is not an option under my current circumstances so i really need a favourable reply.
My laptop just crashes randomly when I'm using it. It's frustrating, and it costs me a lot of time. When it's booting my keyboard becomes unresponsive so I have to wait for the countdown to run out (can't just hit enter into boot normally). After I type my password to log in I get a black screen with a mouse for about 2 minutes before the desktop loads. The thing I found that seems to be causing the problem is my wireless card. View 9 Replies View Relatedwell yeah used it on my windows vista it did make it faster and never had a problem(no I never bought it :P). then I upgrade to windows 7 and I ran it cleaned the error's and just screwed it up. I need to restore my registry, start up fix doesn't work and I don't have system restore on don't have a backup so I go to CMD in start up fix enter notepad look for files to restore stuff can't really find anything.
I can restore reg files by notepad I mean I tried a lot of stuff so is there any CMD command to restore registry or a reg file I can use to restore registry? tried sfc /scanow (i don't think it restore's registry only file's that are modded files that are not from Microsoft).
I also have an old computer with SATA hard drive running XP SP2, it is connected to samsung LCD tv, it was working properly for months but today while i was using it, the screen went blank(black) nothing showing on lcd, I tried every thing i can but of no use, even connected to other monior also but... nothing displaying, Cpu is running but when I tried to turn it off from power button it didnt response, have to switch it off from electric board.
