my laptop suddenly starts to go blank after a few minutes of use. I am using Windows 7 Home 64 bit. I have updated drivers and a good virus program. Nothing has changed recently.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an ongoing problem with my Windows 7 PC. Originally I had a Dell precision workstation 490 with 16 gig of RAM. The hard drives were Western Digital one was a 1 TB the other was a 2 TB. The precision workstation started to have a reboot problem. After 5 to 15 minutes of use it would simply turn itself off. It's not actually restarting itself it just quits like you pulled the plug out of the wall with no warning.I have a background in computer repair and after thoroughly troubleshooting the hardware decided that the old precision workstation might have a power supply problem. That power supply is no longer made so you can only buy used ones mostly from eBay. I decided that I would buy a new computer and swap out the hard drives video card and other hardware. Before I switched out the hardware I may an image file and recovery disks so that I could reinstall Windows 7 back into the new computer. I thought this would cure the computer from turning off.
I bought a new motherboard, new power supply, new Pentium four Ivy Bridge processor. I swapped over the drives and video card then installed the drivers for the motherboard and reinstalled the hard drive from the image. Seemed to work well but my computer dropdead problem came with the old hardware.I performed a in-depth VirusScan using Microsoft security essentials software. I did the complete scan are the in-depth scan and did find two Trojan viruses that were really nasty on the hard drive. These viruses were quarantined and then removed from the hard drive. Also I removed several older programs that I either don't use anymore are don't like. I have searched through config MS for a potential problem. But I don't see any problems there. I've found a program on the Internet that monitors the boot up and shows you what services are devices or whatever has been loaded to your system. It seems that the operating system loads over 2 million services a lot to shift through. I have gone through a lot of this checking out what I do not understand with the Internet. I really don't see anything that could be causing this computer just to turn off after about 5 to 10 minutes sometimes 15. Once it does turn itself off and this is the tricky part I can restart it and it will run the rest of the day without fail are causing me problems just after you turn it owns when it falls down.

View 5 Replies View RelatedThe computer was perfectly fine yesterday; normal speed and using the default Windows 7 aero theme (save the background obviously).Since today the computer is suddenly slow from the start-up already; When it comes to the "configuring windows" screen it takes about a minute instead of the second to get to the login screen. Then when I log in, everything is in the classic theme. A warning also pop-ups during start-up. Here's a screenshot where you see the task bar in classic theme while it should be aero theme. You also see there the warning on start-up. It basically says it can't connect with a Windows server, namelAfter start-up other problems are occurring.First of all, parts of the computer has become slow. The most notable is right-clicking on the desktop (and only the desktop!), it will take ages before the right-click menu is loaded.
Secondly, I can not change the theme, was my initial thought to do. All themes except the classic themes are greyed out and not selectableThirdly, the antivirus, Avira Antivir, starts up disabled, and whatever I try, I can not enable it. This started to happen after a few start-ups.So yeah, quite bothersome problems. I have tried the following solutions:- Scan my computer with Avira. I've scanned every single file my computer has, but my computer didn't find any viruses. This scan was done before Avira started acting weird.- System recovery. I first send it back to yesterday, which was right before an Windows update. The computer was fixed after the system recovery, but after a reboot every problem was back. Now for some reason none of the system recovery points are working, including the first one I tried.
So far I have one possible conclusion: It's the Windows update from yesterday. It installed only one update, which was a definition for Windows Defender, KB915597 definition 1.129.1102.0 to be precise. It's also the only difference between today and yesterday, and before and after the first system recovery. Sadly this update re-installs itself immediately after a system recovery, and I can't find anything about this update on google, so I can't say for sure this is the cause.
Windows boots and starts up, but at some point I get a black screen from which I cannot exit unless I reboot. Since my video card has 512MB, and my board's maximum memory is 4GB, I suspected Windows would not have the full 4GB to play with, and, sure enough, the Windows properties screen shows I have 3584 MB available. Also, the POST screen seems to test 3670016 KB, which I believe is the same thing. In fact, even the memory test programs report only 3584 MB memory. I have been running Win 7 x64 for several months on my Gigabyte GA-K8NSC-939 motherboard using 2GB memory (4x512MB). I decided to upgrade to 4GB (4x1GB), the max the board can handle.
Installed and tested using Memtest-86, Memtest86+, and Memscope with several passes of each -- all good. On the other hand, one of the advanced tests for Win Mem Diagnostic failed, but since it was making lots of artifacts on the screen, I suspected it was confusing video memory with RAM. So I thought Windows knows about my memory and vid card and is reserving things apprpriately, but maybe not. I boot and go into Win 7, and enter my password, but some time later the screen goes dark as if it has gone to sleep, except it will not wake up.
Most of the time just before it goes dark, I see several colors on the screen, which make me think it has something to do with the video, and I wonder if the computer is getting confused about which memory it can use for what purpose. I looked in the BIOS for something obvious, but I didn't find anything, except (maybe?) the setting for "Init Display First" which was set to "PCI slot," and which I changed to "AGP," but I don't think that worked. I looked for but did not find something about memory mapping, so maybe that is on already.
So my screen freezes and cant move my mouse at that time. it came after i installed my amd bulldozer fx 6100 into my recent build (Msi 890fxa gd 65 board, gskill ripjaws f3-10666CL9D-9GBRL , msi radeon 6870 twinfrozr 3 and some sata 2 WD harddrive. It sometimes happend on my old build where was an amd phenom II x2 565 3.4ghz processor... Now its happening nearly every 15mins or so. After i defrag my 2year old harddrive it comes after 30-60minutes..I think its about the processor not being compatible to the memory and motherboard(OR the harddrive being 2years old and sata 2 and nomore in the markets, makes crappy noises even .Because the memory box says "Designed for Intel LGA 1156 platforms / Compatible whit Intel LGA 1155 sandy bridge and amd am3 CPUS.And their website says that the 890fxa gd65 board does not support that memory,but still detects and works in my build. My chipset in the motherboard is AMD am3 and supports am3+.

So I checked the resolution and it's set the highest resolution it will go.I've checked the power settings by setting everything to never sleep or hibernate.I also checked the Graphic settings, but everything looks fine. I also updated the drivers for the video card. Both monitors are set to 60htz because that's the highest it will go.

Then It worked..But i have noticed another problem. my laptop freezes about 2 seconds then Starts up Again.. then freezes and un froze again... Then I am hearing some clicking sound on my disk drive on the right.(where I put DVD/CD's). And my laptop is 1 Year and 1 Month old, I haven't cleaned the fan. I think it has so many dust/oil in it that may also cause's my laptop to freeze from time to time. Then after about 10 minutes the Blue Screen of Death Appears!. It's so frustrating. I tried using Check Disk but it is stuck on the 4th Stage out of 5. like around 53k. I also tried defraging it. but nothing happens. I am in Safe mode now.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI've got a HP Pavilion g series laptop, which has recently, when being turned on, powering up as normal by turning the light of the power button on and lighting the screen, then quickly shutting these off again, and then continuing to turn on as normal.It hasnt been doing this for very long, I have no idea whether it is a serious problem or not as I don't know anything about computers. I must add that I don't use my laptop with the battery in; I use it with the battery out as I mostly use it plug into the mains.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba L305D S5895 laptop. Hdd=250, Mem=2GB, Windows Vista upgrd to Windows 7 Hm prem 64bit. System power indicators does not light up except when both battery and AC are connected. When one of them (the Battery or the AC adapter) alone is plugged in, it does not light up. When both is plugged and I hit the switch, it starts briefly showing the Toshiba logo and then shuts down and the light goes off. I have to unplug both batt and AC and reconnect them again to get the power lights up. Battery is abt 11% charge and the AC adapter is ok when I tested it on a multimeter. I did a reset of BIOS by by pressing Switch for 30 secs before reconnecting power, but it did not help.

I just restored my system because it was very slow despite having tuneup utilities 2013 working on disabling start up programs. Everything was great when I restored my system until I started installing programs again including tuneup utilities and it actually did more damage than good to my start ups so I decided to permanently uninstall the program and do everything with Windows functions like msconfig and stuff. My startups are way faster now but not as good as they used to be, after 10 minutes of using my computer everything becomes really fast like the old times but I would like to have this speed right at the start up because I know it's possible.

About 3 weeks ago after turning it on, a screen came up saying the cooling fan wasn't working and continued use could result in lost files. I went ahead and continued so I could backup files. Later in the day the fan made a funny noise and then started again. Since then it has been working. A few days ago the laptop started freezing randomly during use. The last couple of days it has been freezing every 10-15 minutes or so. I have to hold in the button to turn it off. I don't know if this is due to the fan maybe not properly cooling the laptop. According to HP my warranty has already ran out (I thought they typically lasted a year?). I imagine it would be cheaper at a repair shop than to send to HP if needed. But before I spent any money, I wanted to see if maybe it was a simple fix I could do myself. I ran startup repair and restored it to a previous day. It didn't fix the problem.

Having work to do i was forced to run my PC on Safe Mode for a couple of month. After a while I decided to go ''legit', again and I realized that my PC froze a few minutes after start-up but after a couple of hours, it would run smoothly for days. So the past few months my PC was running smoothly,... until recently, but now, it's worst than ever.
It freezes a few minutes after start-up... and even if I keep it on for days, I still can't do a thing, it un-freeze for like 2 seconds sometimes, then just to freeze again. It's driving me crazy. I'm planning to buy a new PC but I'm stuck with this one for a little while now, might as well try to do something with it. I don't think this is a problem of program or anything like this since even after I formatted it, I still had the same problem. Is my laptop just dead? (I'm on safe-mode right now).

I have a fairly new laptop that suddenly, for two weeks ago went VERY slow. The start up time has increased from about 1 minute, to about 5-6 minutes. And it is generally slower, and freezing occasionally (The ones that freeze the most are programs like flash player (while browsing) and "explorer".) Although it gets faster after a while, it hasn't been as fast as when I got it. And not only that, for about 4 days ago when I was about to go to bed, I turned the "sleep mode" on. (It takes about an hour or so for it to run faster, and not freeze as much.) Anyways, it usually takes some time for the sleep mode to turn on, because of the laptop being as slow as it is. So I had fallen to sleep before the bsod had occurred

When turning on I gave it a scan by pressing escape and on the HP checks, the hard disk check it failed. Tried going into command prompt and doing chkdsk /f but get what's shown below.Checking file system on C:The type of file system is NTFS..One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency. You may cancel the disk check, but it is trongly recommended that you continue.Windows will now check disk.Cannot open volume for direct access. Autochk cannot run due to an error caused by a recently installed software package.Use system restore feature from the control panel to restore the system to a point prior to the recent software package installation. I can get into safe mode but that's all I can do.Would it be a good idea to reinstall windows, although I did it not that long ago (in the last two months or so) ? Or is there any programs that could save a hard drive. I really don't want to buy a new one. I've bought the laptop in Summer 2010 so its not too old. Although I think the vans sound quite loud and it overheats quite often, but I cannot take it off to get to them.
