Laptop Freezes A Few Minutes After Start-up
Apr 8, 2012
A few months ago my Laptop went freezing from times to times, for a few minutes and then un-freeze, to freeze again a few minutes later. So wondering what to do, I formatted my laptop to solve that problem. Sadly it didn't worked.
Having work to do i was forced to run my PC on Safe Mode for a couple of month. After a while I decided to go ''legit', again and I realized that my PC froze a few minutes after start-up but after a couple of hours, it would run smoothly for days. So the past few months my PC was running smoothly,... until recently, but now, it's worst than ever.
It freezes a few minutes after start-up... and even if I keep it on for days, I still can't do a thing, it un-freeze for like 2 seconds sometimes, then just to freeze again. It's driving me crazy. I'm planning to buy a new PC but I'm stuck with this one for a little while now, might as well try to do something with it. I don't think this is a problem of program or anything like this since even after I formatted it, I still had the same problem. Is my laptop just dead? (I'm on safe-mode right now).
So here's my specs-
Toshiba Laptop
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core TK-57 1.90ghz
Ram: 3 Gb
System : Windows 7 home premium 32 bit

I just upgrades to Windows 7 64 bit from Vusta 64 bit 2 weeks ago and it has been working fine until the last day or two. Since then, the computer has started to freeze within 2 or 3 minutes after it starts up. I even tested it and it will still freeze on the log in screen. When the system does freeze, sometimes the mouse will move temporarily, but it will usually stop moving altogether.
Also, the keyboard will not work and any sound that was playing at the time of the freeze will loop or just go crazy. The only things I have that run when the system start up is AVG Anti-virus, Precision (my overclocking/ fan speed tool), and Spybot Search and Destroy + Teatime.
I can't think of anything that I downloaded or installed before this happened and I think it just started out of the blue. I never had this problem with Vista, so I don't think it is a hardware problem, but I can't do anything while my computer is like this. Does anyone have/had similar problems or know how to fix mine?
My specs are:
AMD Phenom II X4 955(3.2GHz) 64 bit Quad-Core Processor
8GB DDR3 1333 RAM
1TB SATAII Hard Drive
NVIDIA GeForce GTX-275 896MB
Integrated Sound card
Power Supply 700W
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

[code] Since purchase, every 2-10 minutes the laptop will freeze for 2-4 minutes during which in some instances I'll be able to move around with the mouse and switch tabs in chrome, but not much else, and in other cases it will be a complete freeze.

I have a HP Pavillion DV6 laptop. Whenever I turn my laptop on and log on, a few minutes after logging on it freezes. Cant access anything, have to restart it. When turning on I gave it a scan by pressing escape and on the HP checks, the hard disk check it failed. Tried going into command prompt and doing chkdsk /f but get what's shown below.Checking file system on C:The type of file system is NTFS..One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency. You may cancel the disk check, but it is trongly recommended that you continue.Windows will now check disk.Cannot open volume for direct access. Autochk cannot run due to an error caused by a recently installed software package.Use system restore feature from the control panel to restore the system to a point prior to the recent software package installation. I can get into safe mode but that's all I can do.Would it be a good idea to reinstall windows, although I did it not that long ago (in the last two months or so) ? Or is there any programs that could save a hard drive. I really don't want to buy a new one. I've bought the laptop in Summer 2010 so its not too old. Although I think the vans sound quite loud and it overheats quite often, but I cannot take it off to get to them.

I am having a major problem with my laptop (Dell inspiron 1520). The laptop starts up, whe the dell logo disappears I get some very quick beeps (there must be about 8 beeps in total). I then get a boot manager screen which shows windows 7 at the top, and windows memory diagnostic in the tools section at the bottom. When I press enter it goes to the password screen and then after entering the password it seems to boot up as normal. I can probably get 2 - 3 minutes use out of my laptop before everything freezes. From this point I cannot do anything and have to tur the computer off by the switch. This is all it does in a constant loop.I have tried everything I can think of but still the same issue.
A couple of weeks ago my daughter spilt a little water on the keyboard. I mopped it up but next time I booted it up again the beeping noises started on start up. I removed the memory stick from under the keybpard and noticed there was signs of water damage. I removed the memory stick and the beeps on start up continued every time I booted the laptop up. But everything worked. Last Friday I was browsing the internet and that is when everything frozeI have tried to restore to an earlier date but it won't let me complete the restore. I have run the various disk repairs that are offered when pressing F8 at the dell logo screen but to no avail (it doesn't seem to find any issues). I really just want to get my files/photos off and then try and reinstall windows but as explained my computer won't stay on long enough for me to be able to do anythingThe computer will stay on in safe mode, however, it will not load in safe mode with networking. Could it be something to do with wifi? Reason I say this is I have been reading various threads and this has been suggested as a possible issue for one person's similar problem.

It all started yesterday, while I was browsing the net my computer suddenly froze and got a bluescreen. When it rebooted everything looked fine during startup except that it froze after a few minutes again. During the freeze I can move the mouse, but I can't open any programs, and any programs that already are open stop working. Can't ctrl+alt+delete or do anything else than reboot the computer by pressing the start-button.
I didn't visit any websites that I haven't visited frequently these past weeks so I don't think I've gotten anything from them. When I start in safe-mode the same thing happens after a few minutes, cant start any new programs, and any programs that already are active stop working.

my pc right now (2-3 years old) is slow as hell and freezes every few minutes for 1-5 minutes. i just did a clean install 2 weeks ago and it is still like that. i have a 465gb hard drive and 230gb of it is currently free (i am making videos with my friends and we have a gaming channel on Internet what is doing pretty well right now so 150gb is taken away by videos. i delete them right after making them so most of the time the hard drive has 380+ gb free)
also if this matters than i should currently be dual booting my win 7 with ubuntu but 1 day the ubuntu folder from my local disc was deleted (i have no idea how, 1 day it was just gone) and since then it doesnt let me choose to go into ubuntu. is it completely deleted or some parts still remain and is there a way to uninstall/delete those parts.
this is all the information about my computer (i think) i took that from speccy so probably there is alot of information that is useless for you but still.
code: summary

I have a dell inspiron N4010 windows 7 operating system and for some reason, after two minutes of me logging on to my computer the screen suddenly dims, the mouse disappears, and the entire computer freezes. No matter how many times i restart my computer the same thing happens. I don't have this problem though when i'm in safe mode. but when i'm in safe mode, i don't have access to my virus detection software, so i can't scan for a virus either in normal or safe mode.

Since yesterday my computer freezes only after some minutes of booting. Never had an issue of this kind before, my PC was always performing well without any problems at all.
The computer is freezing when im watching videos with VLC and i cant even restart it with ctrl + alt + del because it doesnt respond, so i must restart it manualy pressing the reset button.
Some weeks ago i bought a new PSU (coolermaster silent Pro M 500w) but i think its not related to that because untill yesterday all was fine.
This is what i get:

On a random basis Windows 7 freezes for about 2 minutes, then proceeds with the activities in normal fashion. The operating system and software is on a Solid State Drive while everything else is on a hard drive. I have troubleshooted all the normal suspects but cannot find the reason for the temporary freeze.

I have a fairly new computer (14 months) that never gave me any problems until recently. My computer will 100% freeze after roughly 10 mins of use (doesnt matter what i do in the 10 mins). I'm running windows 7 home 32 bit, i5 quad core (cant rmb alot of details, will dig up more soon), asus p8p67 mobo, wd 1tb green and 4gb ram.
The only way to "unfreeze" my computer is to restart it, if i leave it as it is without restarting I'll get a BSOD that says "KERNEL INPAGE DATA ERROR"
error code: STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x00000003, 0xA16DE4E0, 0xA16DE64C, 0xE3060200)

I am running windows 7 Ultimate rtm on an Acer Aspire 5515 and it goes into/wakes from sleep mode just fine. However when waking from hibernation, it logs in fine and then a minute or two later, it freezes forcing me to hold down the power button to shut it off. When booted back up, of course i get the option of going into 'safe mode' hit start normally and everything is fine.
I could just not use Hibernate but it would be convenient if when going to school, i could use hibernate so I still have all my battery power when i resume since sleep still uses a little of the battery up. Is there a fix for this or is it just a bug M$ will have to eventually fix through updates?

I have Toshiba Dynabook that I bought in Japan. It originally had Vista on it, but recently I yanked the hard drive out and replaced it with a new one and installed windows 7 on it. I installed all the drivers it required using driver max and windows update, but it keeps freezing randomly. I ran the disk error check and no change and I tweaked my boot up to only run needed programs. I'm pretty sure it's not an overheating issue because it will run for hours when installing the os. I've already spent more time than I wanted to invest in this and am ready to smash the computer.

I am new to the forum and seeking help.I recently experienced a bad boot sector on my HDD and had to reinstall Windows 7 (x64). I then also installed Ubuntu 12.04. Since then, when I load up Windows, it will start up, load icons, gadgets etc, but then within a few minutes it will freeze and I have to do a hard reboot. Ubuntu doesn't do this. If I don't hard reboot I get a BSOD.I am pretty sure Windows was not a bad install or anything. I assume it's probably because Windows uses more resources than Ubuntu.Could the damaged hard drive cause a problem like this or can I assume I also have problems with the graphics card or the RAM?Windows freezes in normal mode and normal mode with low resolution. As far as I can tell it does NOT freeze in safe mode, unless I've just not been using it long enough. Does this sound like the sort of problem a driver could cause instead of a hardware problem?

Since my fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (SP1) - whenever I install software, the windows installer will hang or not respond for long periods - then it comes back to life, installs a bit more, then freezes again - sometimes it can take up to 10-20 minutes to install a normal program!

About a week ago, I was stricken with a BSOD, can't remember the error code. After that, the computer ran like crap. Even in Safe Mode, it ran like crap, constant freezing after about a minute after boot up. I did a little research and found that registry errors can be responsible for this, so I ran a couple different registry cleaners and it seemed to have done the trick. A couple days later, it went back to running like crap.I did a complete reinstall of Windows 7, and still runs like crap.Every time I boot up in normal mode, after about five minutes, the computer freezes up. The mouse pointer still moves, but is unresponsive to function changes. Meaning, the pointer doesn't change from arrow to hand to I-beam, etc., and clicking does nothing. I don't even get the "(Not Responding)" tag in the title bar of the software. Ctrl+Alt+Del does next to nothing. The best result I get from it is a blank, black screen, and I have to shut down manually by holding down the power button, which is the case 100% of the time, black screen or not.The computer runs perfectly fine in Safe Mode with Networking. I'm writing this post on it right now.Someone suggested I remove one RAM stick at a time and test the computer with one RAM stick in, changing it from one slot to the next, then testing the other stick. Did that. No results.

I have a problem with 2 Windows computers located in 2 separate locations. When I login the computer will run for 1-3 minutes and then freezes for 8-20 minutes. After it returns from it's nap everything runs normally.
I have been told that their is no malware on the computer, see this topic --[URL]
when I first reported this on the Windows 7 forum about a month ago the freeze was 7-8 minutes, last time I rebooted and logged in it froze for 20 minutes.

Here are the specifications:
Motherboard - Intel Desktop Boards DH67BL Media Series
Processor - Intel CORE i5
Hard drive - Western Digital 500GB
RAM - 2 Kingston DIMM 2GB DDR3 (4GB)
OS - Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit
How can I fix my pc or at least stop it from freezing.

I just upgraded my bios yesterday, and now my computer reads all of my ram! Now things are acting kinda weird. When I first turn on the computer, is starts fine. Comes to the desktop screen fine. But then it kinda freezes for about two minutes. Can't do anything except open the task manager and play with the mouse. It won't even connect to the internet. Then when everything starts working again, it takes like 2 minutes literally for any web page to appear. I have checked with internet company twice, and both times they say there is no problem with the internet connection.

I've been using my Dell Inspiron 17R for around 2 months ago and it's a fantastic laptop, I mainly use it for videogames, music and movies/TV shows and it has ran flawlessly thus far.
Starting yesterday however, problems began to occur. I could boot the laptop up as per usual and access the Internet, play games, watch movies etc. but after around 5 minutes everything would suddenly become unresponsive. Both my mouse and trackpad wouldn't allow me to click at all, I could however move the mouse around the screen completely fine. The keyboard would also not work - I tried opening the task manager via Ctrl+Alt+Del as well as closing windows with Alt+F4 or trying to shutdown via the Windows key and nothing would work. Instead the cursor would change to the "loading" symbol and it would pretty much just do nothing.
The first time this happened I was browsing the Internet and it just got stuck on "Waiting for Cache" or something to that likeliness, I then noticed the rotating circle that shows a page loading had also halted and was then forced to reboot manually as I couldn't even click the Windows button. Another test I tried was watching a downloaded video - it literally just stopped playing around 4 minutes in. The screen just halted on a single frame even though the pause button hadn't been pressed - trying to click anything didn't work (as usual).
I tried rebooting it multiple times (I was sadly forced to use the power button) and it began to repeat every single time. It would work for a few minutes before completely freezing (minus the ability to pointlessly move the mouse around the screen). Occasionally a window would pop up above the task bar saying that the "Microsoft Windows application has become unresponsive". Sometimes the taskbar would then disappear and the laptop would shut itself down but the end result was always the same.
I found that the same problem did not occur when booting in Safe Mode with Networking, however there was some noticeable slowdown. I downloaded and used many anti-viruses/malware to scan my machine and I'm almost positive that there is nothing of the such on the computer (although in all fairness, the scans were running so slowly I could only make it to about 20% on each before giving up). Other solutions I've tried included:
1. Manually ending high memory usage tasks via the manager
2. Using CCleaner to fix my registry in Safe Mode
3. Left the laptop off overnight in a hope it would just fix itself
4. Unplugged everything from the ports of the laptop
5. Rebooted via the Restart, Shutdown and power buttons
