i also found the same problem in my dell laptop studio. i installed, my laptop came with window vista , then i installed win 7 ultimate OS, after that i reinstalled win 7 pro OS. and now i am facing the same problem. i.e blank screen on start up sometimes. can any one please tell me that how should i reinstall the my first operating i.e window vista and when i bought laptop i got it without the cd of windows

Since my video card has 512MB, and my board's maximum memory is 4GB, I suspected Windows would not have the full 4GB to play with, and, sure enough, the Windows properties screen shows I have 3584 MB available. Also, the POST screen seems to test 3670016 KB, which I believe is the same thing. In fact, even the memory test programs report only 3584 MB memory. I have been running Win 7 x64 for several months on my Gigabyte GA-K8NSC-939 motherboard using 2GB memory (4x512MB). I decided to upgrade to 4GB (4x1GB), the max the board can handle.
Installed and tested using Memtest-86, Memtest86+, and Memscope with several passes of each -- all good. On the other hand, one of the advanced tests for Win Mem Diagnostic failed, but since it was making lots of artifacts on the screen, I suspected it was confusing video memory with RAM. So I thought Windows knows about my memory and vid card and is reserving things apprpriately, but maybe not. I boot and go into Win 7, and enter my password, but some time later the screen goes dark as if it has gone to sleep, except it will not wake up.
Most of the time just before it goes dark, I see several colors on the screen, which make me think it has something to do with the video, and I wonder if the computer is getting confused about which memory it can use for what purpose. I looked in the BIOS for something obvious, but I didn't find anything, except (maybe?) the setting for "Init Display First" which was set to "PCI slot," and which I changed to "AGP," but I don't think that worked. I looked for but did not find something about memory mapping, so maybe that is on already.
my laptop suddenly starts to go blank after a few minutes of use. I am using Windows 7 Home 64 bit. I have updated drivers and a good virus program. Nothing has changed recently.
View 1 Replies View RelatedEverything shows up fine until the welcome screen after that it normally used to fade to the desktop but now it goes blank. The screen in Black with only the mouse pointer. Its not hung, i can move the mouse pointer. Then after a minute or so it advances to the desktop. Everything on the desktop loads up in less than 5s. The PC runs fine, it is really fast as there are only a few programs, but only boots slow. My total boot time is about 3-5 min. I think it should be like in a minute or so.I have not tweaked much with the system but have installed a few programs like MS office, Nero, Acrobat and Photoshop. These are the only heavy programs in the PC right now. The only games on the PC are AC1 and AC2. I have uninstalled my graphic driver and reinstalled. I already minimized the programs in the msconfig>startup to the minimum. I have run ccleaner, spybot s&d, Antimalware and i also have a trial copy of Kaspersky AV (upgrading later to 1-year license). there are no peripherals attached during boot except the USB keyboard and mouse. A printer is attached too but is most of the time turned off.

It's a recurrent problem, but it happens only when I'm playing games, altough it seens to happen with all games, it happens more often when I'm playing World of Warcraft and Pro Evolution Soccer 2011, since they're the ones I play most. View 8 Replies View RelatedI was messing around with the settings trying to get a more clear pricutre, and now the desktop doesn't show any icons, no menu bar, and the background is partially cut out all around (like it's stretched to the original picture size). When I use ctrl alt delete the tv just goes black.The main problem is I can't use the main screen to adjust anything because my friend cracked it bad enough to where I can't make anything out.I have no problems using my friend's 40" tv, so I tried adjusting the resolution to a smaller size, but when I plug it back into the smaller tv it still doesn't work.I think this started happening when I changed some stuff in Asus Utilities Extended Desktop, but disabling that doesn't work.

Whenever I turn it on from cold or restart, the screen is off up until Windows starts loading. If I keep pressing DEL during boot, the BIOS comes up on the screen. Whenever mce2005 started up, media center automatically displayed on my tv screen rather than my pc monitor. With Windows 7 it seems to display on my PC monitor at startup, even though I have dragged it onto the tv screen the previous time I used it. Is there a way I can get it to start up on my tv screen but keep my PC monitor as my primary screen? My video card is an nVidia GeForce 7300LE
PS It's also time for a video card upgrade as live TV is very choppy - would people recommend ATI or nVidia?
I currently have Windows XP SP3 installed on drive CDrive D is empty - Used to have Windows XPDrive E is my data drive.I put the Windows 7 64 Bit DVD in, it boots up and states loading files, then I see the coloured dots make the Microsoft window, then a blue screen with coloured lines and what looks like leaves. The mouse works, but that's where it all stops. I don't see anything else. The Compaq laptop with windows 7 starts up with a black screen, as soon as I start it up it will start the cooling fan but the screen does nothing but just a black screen. Before this happend, I was playing minecraft and then left it and when I came back the computer had automaticly locked, I tried to put my password in then it would not let me type, no keys would come up. I have always had issues with BSOD's and Windows errors, and most of them either driver or memory related. I fixed and updated all drivers, but never did anything about memory except maybe some tests and they all came out fine. 3 days ago, I was using my PC just browsing a Web page and suddenly the screen went black. I thought it was the lcd, but I closed the lid to see if it would go into standby mode and it just stood there powered on and frozen... The only way it would react was if I manually turned it off holding power button.
Sometimes it does boot up, sometimes it gets farther than others. What I mean is, sometimes it gets past the Gateway logo and crashes there, sometimes it boots up to to the home screen, and sometimes it doesn't even boot... How far it gets depends on how long the PC has been turned off. Odd I know... Anyways, I found out my motherboard requires ram with 1066mhz fsb whereas the current ram sticks it has installed are 800mhz.... I was told new ram with 1066mhz would fix my issues and allow my PC tu boot and run fine as it always did, but I just wanted to be sure that's my Issue, and I also wanted to know how come the computer ran fine (with the exception of BSOD's and some errors occurring every now and then) before and now suddenly I'm screwed. I have tried at least 5 times installing the OS by using Recovery DVD's that I order from HP. I am able to boot from the DVD's and go through the process of Inserting Disc 1, Disc 2, and Disc 3. Once the setup is complete, I am prompted to Click Continue so that the system can restart the computer and continue the windows 7 Installation. It never even starts the installation. It gives me the following screen:

Troubleshooting I have done:
- I have tried to install the OS in different ways. i.e. with a formatted HDD, re-installing over error msg, swapped hard drives.
- I also inserted the "Windows 7 Repair disk" (I made the disk from my other windows 7 machine that is also 64-bit)
From there I boot it up, and it detects start up problems and tells me to click restart to fix issues. I restart and cross my fingers to only end up disappointed by the screen above. I have also checked and I do have boot from notebook HDD as my primary boot up device.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been using my laptop for a while now and had a friend install Windows 7 onto it (because i'm quite rubbish with this sort of thing) and everything has been going great until a few weeks ago.
I loaded it up one day and everything is going fine until it reaches the part where it's supposed to load the log on screen. Instead of a log on screen all i am getting is a black screen with the cursor. Now i can't give you specs to my computer or anything of the like because i simply don't have access to it but i can give as much aid as possible to help find the problem.
One of the things that happens is that when the black screen & cursor appears if i move the mouse or push any buttons the screen goes VERY dim as if i've put it into a lower power mode or i've taken out the power cable. If i push the power button to turn it off even if it's just a tap on the button the screen will go off immediatly even if the laptop is still running.
One of the green lights that i believe is showing if the hard drive is busy or not flashes during the process but after a minute or so of the black screen it'll stop flashing altogether.
I've tried all three safe modes with all the same results, F8 to system repair has given me no love with startup repair finding NOTHING wrong, memory check running through the process only for the same thing to happen and system restore has no restore points to go to.
I've looked for answers in several places and some say i have to use sticky keys to get the screen to come on but the problem is that as of last nights use i turned sticky keys off for a few minutes so i could play a game and forgot to turn them back on afterwards. I've taken a look around the net and can't find a fix to my problem. Reinstall simply is not an option under my current circumstances so i really need a favourable reply.
well yeah used it on my windows vista it did make it faster and never had a problem(no I never bought it :P). then I upgrade to windows 7 and I ran it cleaned the error's and just screwed it up. I need to restore my registry, start up fix doesn't work and I don't have system restore on don't have a backup so I go to CMD in start up fix enter notepad look for files to restore stuff can't really find anything.
I can restore reg files by notepad I mean I tried a lot of stuff so is there any CMD command to restore registry or a reg file I can use to restore registry? tried sfc /scanow (i don't think it restore's registry only file's that are modded files that are not from Microsoft).
I also have an old computer with SATA hard drive running XP SP2, it is connected to samsung LCD tv, it was working properly for months but today while i was using it, the screen went blank(black) nothing showing on lcd, I tried every thing i can but of no use, even connected to other monior also but... nothing displaying, Cpu is running but when I tried to turn it off from power button it didnt response, have to switch it off from electric board.

Ok last night i was bored so decided to re-paste my G7 so i opened her up and cleaned the Cpu and Gpu nicely. Did my thing re-pasted her up and put everything back in order.I downloaded some benchmark tools such as Hwinfo, Amd gpu clock tools, cpu-z, gpu-z and aida64.I also have ccleaner installed so far that is all i have as of now besides the bench mark and anti virus tools.
I was running hwinfo and checking my temp's earlier today everything seemed normal as i was curing my tim and making sure the temp's where ok.While i was checking the temps on my g7 i went ahead and downloaded some files on my other pc transferring it to my usb so i could plug my usb and download the files from there. All of a sudden my monitor goes blank and everything seem to be fine all the light's where on except the monitor.So i went ahead and dissembled the g7 to make sure that i wasn't pinching any wires that run to my monitor nothing was wrong there i double checked took a look at all my wires and they where fine.I restarted the pc up 3 times before the picture came back so i decided to run a chkdsk scan and this is what i pulled up.

My system is set to shut power to Monitor after 20 mins and to HD 30Mins. This has been working perfectly and suits my position as i frequently have to leave my PC fo 30 mins or so.Add thing last night the monitor was showing the open page (actually Win Live Mail) but the screen was also sjowing a number of rectangle areas a couple of inches wide with pale green and pink lines. The curser was still visible but the mouse an w]keyboard did not work. There was no response at all. I had to close down by pressing the on button for 5 secs. It appeared that the HD had closed down as had the monitor but the image stayed on the screen. Onrebooting I get no response on the Monitor at all. Not even a flicker. I have tried a different monitor but the result is the same. I listened carefully when I pressed the on button and I could hear the HD spin but it stopped very quickly and no other sound emitted aprt fromvery slight fan noise. So I'm stumped as I can't even get into the bios.

Windows 7 has been running great since installing on release day, this morning after i turned my laptop on, i got to the Windows bootloader, selected Windows 7, it then goes to a blank screen with the hard drive light constantly on. left it for about 10 minutes, nothing.
my MacOS install on the second partition still works 100%.
i tried a few things, startup repair from the Win 7 install DVD, it sees my Win 7 install on C: but gave an error saying it couldn't fix, the error report mentioned something about "startuprepairoffline" & "NoOSinstalled".
then tried a system restore from the disk, says it couldn't find any restore points (?!)
then tried to fix the mbr via recovery console, says it did the fix, but still won't boot.
Ever since I put Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit on (about 6 hours ago) I get a black screen after boot screen, no login appears.
Black Screen:
* No Mouse
* No Keyboard
* No Screen (Duh) Its not a "Black Screen" more of a blank screen
I have attempted many fixes:
* Update Drivers for mother board
* Update Drivers For GFX card
* Batch Files in Start up (two different ones based on display)
* Updated BIOS
* Removing all other hard drives
Things that Have Worked:
* Running in Safe Mode
* Disabling GFX card
* Remove GFX card Drivers
This is how i came to the conclusion that my black screen is caused by my GFX card. But i don't want to have Windows 7 installed with out it (what would be the point).

I'm having a strange issue with RC1 x32 on my Dell XPS M1330. Everything was working fine a few days ago. It's a relatively fresh install (all I have is avast, itunes, firefox). Now when I boot all I get is a blank screen with a mouse in the center. There's hard drive activity, and I can move the mouse, but I can't login. I've tried typing my password and hitting enter to no avail. Also tried sleep cycling it, no luck.
I think it might be related to a driver called zFlashpoint that I just installed for my SSD. It's been rumored to corrupt parts of the registry. Does anyone have an idea how I can fix this if it's the case? I have a desktop which I can put the SSD in to perform repairs.
Just today I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. This was a problem I had a few months ago with Vista on this same laptop, and I was hoping it would be fixed with Windows 7, but apparently it hasn't.
I just finished the installation and final reboot and everything, and I logged in, only to have the Welcome spinning circle on the screen for about 30-45 seconds, and then a blank screen with a moving cursor, but nothing else. After using Ctrl-Alt-Del to log out, I logged back in, and this time after 25-30 seconds of the Welcome spinning circle it logged me in.
Like I said, this was an occasional problem I had with Vista as well, but if possible, now that I'm using Windows 7 I'd like for it to not be a problem at all.
I'm running a 5 month old HP G60 laptop. During the upgrade process today I had to update my BIOS and everything else, so I think those should be fine. I just thought this would be the best place to ask if others have had the same problems and if so, what they did to fix it.
