Computer Starts, Boots Up And Freezes At Black Screen?
Oct 7, 2012
but I was given it used from the previous owner and later found out it was refurbished. It is a Gateway NV53A. I have always had issues with BSOD's and Windows errors, and most of them either driver or memory related. I fixed and updated all drivers, but never did anything about memory except maybe some tests and they all came out fine. 3 days ago, I was using my PC just browsing a Web page and suddenly the screen went black. I thought it was the lcd, but I closed the lid to see if it would go into standby mode and it just stood there powered on and frozen... The only way it would react was if I manually turned it off holding power button.
Sometimes it does boot up, sometimes it gets farther than others. What I mean is, sometimes it gets past the Gateway logo and crashes there, sometimes it boots up to to the home screen, and sometimes it doesn't even boot... How far it gets depends on how long the PC has been turned off. Odd I know... Anyways, I found out my motherboard requires ram with 1066mhz fsb whereas the current ram sticks it has installed are 800mhz.... I was told new ram with 1066mhz would fix my issues and allow my PC tu boot and run fine as it always did, but I just wanted to be sure that's my Issue, and I also wanted to know how come the computer ran fine (with the exception of BSOD's and some errors occurring every now and then) before and now suddenly I'm screwed. I'm currently using two 2GB DDR3 Ram memory sticks. The brand and model of each stick is Nanya nt2gc64b88b0ns-cg
my computer boots up to a black screen with a mouse. The problem is, when I boot from anything or into any option I get this. Safe Mode gets me black screen, so does booting from a Win 7 Recovery disk, everything puts me in a black screen with cursor. At first it will show Windows logo on the screen, with loading bar, then cuts out, and cursor pops up. That's it.Also, when I try to boot normally, it hangs at Windows logo, then flashes a quick blue screen then reboots.
Windows boots and starts up, but at some point I get a black screen from which I cannot exit unless I reboot. Since my video card has 512MB, and my board's maximum memory is 4GB, I suspected Windows would not have the full 4GB to play with, and, sure enough, the Windows properties screen shows I have 3584 MB available. Also, the POST screen seems to test 3670016 KB, which I believe is the same thing. In fact, even the memory test programs report only 3584 MB memory. I have been running Win 7 x64 for several months on my Gigabyte GA-K8NSC-939 motherboard using 2GB memory (4x512MB). I decided to upgrade to 4GB (4x1GB), the max the board can handle.
Installed and tested using Memtest-86, Memtest86+, and Memscope with several passes of each -- all good. On the other hand, one of the advanced tests for Win Mem Diagnostic failed, but since it was making lots of artifacts on the screen, I suspected it was confusing video memory with RAM. So I thought Windows knows about my memory and vid card and is reserving things apprpriately, but maybe not. I boot and go into Win 7, and enter my password, but some time later the screen goes dark as if it has gone to sleep, except it will not wake up.
Most of the time just before it goes dark, I see several colors on the screen, which make me think it has something to do with the video, and I wonder if the computer is getting confused about which memory it can use for what purpose. I looked in the BIOS for something obvious, but I didn't find anything, except (maybe?) the setting for "Init Display First" which was set to "PCI slot," and which I changed to "AGP," but I don't think that worked. I looked for but did not find something about memory mapping, so maybe that is on already.
Just got myself this (old) new computer, that I was going to use for a media center. But it randomly crashes, and i can't seem to figure out why. I formated it yesterday, so I doubt it would be a virus.Sometimes it goes black, and picture returns within a few seconds, but other times it freezes up completely. When I restart it (with the power button) I cant get pasted the BIOS screen, but if I unplug the power supply, and hit the power button a few times and then plug in the power, it starts up like normal. (does that make it a RAM issue?)Freezes have happened doing the following: Using XBMC (both in menus and while watching a video), while Internet Download Manager was running. While file transfer was running, and a few times while i wasnt at the computer.Specs:Windows 7 Ultimate x64ATI Radeon HD 5670Intel Core i3 CPU6GB RAMPhillips TV (Connected with HDMI)
I have a gaming laptop asus g71g with windows 7 loaded on it. When I try to boot up it gets to right before the windows symbol would load and the screen just goes black but the comp stays on.
A few weeks back the PC would not wake up from it's sleep mode so I turned it off and it fixed the problem but now when I turn the PC on it boot's and I hear the 'MS jingle' but I am looking at a black screen, after hitting the restart button it start's up and I get the massage the PC was not closed down properly what mode do I wish to start it in, I have checked the task manager before closing down a number of times and there has been nothing running at close down?
I recently formatted my main drive (upgrading from Vista to Win. 7), and it worked perfectly. It asked to install some updates, including my graphics card and everything else. Then it restarted, and updated a few registry settings ( I think somewhere around 5600-56000, alot more than a few lol), and it black screened when it came to the login screen. I tried logging in, and I could hear the sounds and everything else, so I think it's the graphics card that's the problem.I tried booting into safe mode and uninstalling/reinstalling the graphics driver, but it still black screened.I checked almost every other topic about this, and I tried everything but it didn't work, but i'm still open to more common suggestions.
Right now, i'm just running on the on-board graphics in normal boot mode.System Specs:OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bitProcessor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9300 @ 2.50GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 7Processor Count: 4RAM: 6078 MbGraphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 120, 1024 MbHard Drives: C: Total - 280139 MB, Free - 253850 MB; D: Total - 420255 MB, Free - 420153 MB;Motherboard: Acer, EG45MAntivirus: None, I will be adding Kaspersky later.
Basically I woke up this morning to my computer sitting at a black screen with the cursor visible I'm able to move the cursor but do nothing else I rebooted my computer my manually shutting it off and then it started up as it would normally but did this disc check:[URL]from there it moves back to the black screen with the cursor I again restarted and booted in safe mode this time I was then able to reach windows and tried to do a system restore to an earlier point When i did this i was greeted with this error [URL]Finally here is my harddrive just in case [URL]I exported my full system info so please let me know if more info is necessary

I turned on my computer tonight and before booting it started scrolling text saying deleting corrupted files and scanning files etc...this went on for at least 10-15 minutes and then when it was done it said "Starting Windows" like normal, then brought me to a black screen that said "Preparing to configure windows...do not turn off your computer". That message disappeared after a few seconds and left me with a black screen with a mouse cursor. In the bottom right hand corner of the screen is a power button, bottom left is ease of access button and bottom center it says Windows 7 Home Premium.
I can't do anything with this. I've restarted numerous times, and I've tried restarting in Safe Mode and it still brings me to this point every time. I've also tried using system restore and startup repair through the advanced settings from pressing F8 during boot up.
PS. I did not upgrade my version of windows or anything...Windows did install some updates last time I turned off the computer I think.
I can boot windows seven but the screen goes black when i select my user icon and the mouse pointer is visable and moves but nothing is there to click. I can get into taskmanager but there is nothing i can do there either. I have lost my instal/upgrade disk. This was an upgrade from vista.
I bought my acer recovery and system discs and loaded them everything went smooth untill the end put last disc in and it loaded it and then said windows will complete installation after restart then it shut off and restarted the lil wii fii light came on and blue disk light blinks but nothing on screen?
So this started out as a driver issue - I couldn't seem to install the updated drivers for my ati radeon hd 5 series (I don't have access to my actual specs right now) video card no matter what I tried. Each time it would seemingly revert to the awful on-board graphics and I would have to perform a system restore to correct it. Rinse and repeat. Eventually, I tried one forum poster's recommendation of updating my bios, which managed to bork the computer so bad that it broke the system restore function altogether. So, time to reinstall windows. The computer is a dell xps9100 and didn't come with a windows 7 cd, so I restored to the factory image of windows 7 through the advanced boot menu. It seemed to work, but when it rebooted I got the windows logo and then nothing (black screen, no cursor).
when i first turn on my computer it makes a clicking sound then i get a black screen with just the mouse cursor, if i restart if it works fine, it does this every time if its off a hour or so. its a dell insperon 560 desktop less than a year old, ive spend 3 or 4 hrs will dell tech on phone to no avail, they have tried all kinds of repairs? i think its the hard drive and they are trying to patch it till im out or warranty 28 days left.
I was messing around with the settings trying to get a more clear pricutre, and now the desktop doesn't show any icons, no menu bar, and the background is partially cut out all around (like it's stretched to the original picture size). When I use ctrl alt delete the tv just goes black. The main problem is I can't use the main screen to adjust anything because my friend cracked it bad enough to where I can't make anything out.I have no problems using my friend's 40" tv, so I tried adjusting the resolution to a smaller size, but when I plug it back into the smaller tv it still doesn't work.I think this started happening when I changed some stuff in Asus Utilities Extended Desktop, but disabling that doesn't work.
I tried a registry tweak to fix my home networking issues and came up with a major fail. Long story short, I changed the rpcedptmapper value and the system won't boot.I put the HDD in a cradle and it won't get recognized. HP in all their wisdom, sets the recovery disk to obliterate the entire HDD even if you created a separate boot partition
Basically I woke up this morning to my computer sitting at a black screen with the cursor visible. I'm able to move the cursor but do nothing else. I rebooted my computer my manually shutting it off and then it started up as it would normally but did this disc check: [URL] from there it moves back to the black screen with the cursor. I again restarted and booted in safe mode this time. I was then able to reach windows and tried to do a system restore to an earlier point. When I did this i was greeted with this error [URL]. Finally here is my harddrive just in case [URL]. I exported my full system info:

i was using my HP 2711x last night and it was working wonderfully, and today i turn it on to do some homework and it doesn't show me the login screen, it's just black. and then i try it in safe mode and it works, what could be the problem? and can you explain step by step so i don't miss anything
Running Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit on a Lenovo Ideapad Laptop. Two days ago, I was trying to make my monitor display just a little less contrast, so I opened a utility called Intel HD Graphics that I found on the bottom right toolbar, and it had sliders with which I fixed the problem. But then I noticed a slider called "Hue", and by moving that quickly from side to side, my monitor went from blue to green to pink to yellow and back again, what can I say, I'm easily entertained.Anyway, the computer froze up, and I had to rude boot it. From then on, I would start the computer, and it would look good, like it would start for real, and I would even see some icons on the desktop, but then it would freeze up and I'd have to rude boot it again. It still works in Safe Mode.
then the desktop finally loads. It only lasts about 60 seconds before BSOD'ing again. Safe Mode seems ok, but I was in the process of typing up this thread when safe mode shut down on me randomly. I've tried restoring to earlier points and running malware scans. Minidumps are included.
The Compaq laptop with windows 7 starts up with a black screen, as soon as I start it up it will start the cooling fan but the screen does nothing but just a black screen. Before this happend, I was playing minecraft and then left it and when I came back the computer had automaticly locked, I tried to put my password in then it would not let me type, no keys would come up. I then put down the laptop lid then when I lifted it up again and it just was a black screen, I tried to startup again but still black screen.
My computer freezes many times when ill start it up and get to desktop. It wont take any commands after starting and ill have to shut it down by turning power off. It seems that when ill start my computer in safe mode and then ill restart and go back to normal mode it works normally. All these began after 2 latest updates.
its 1 year 7 months old it starts goes to windows error recovery after choosing start windows normally it then goes to black screen and moveable cursor
If I reboot my desktop goes thru the procedure but the monitor stays black - nothing, not even the safety screen and no cursor. There is an amber light on the monitor which goes green when it receives its wake up call but it remains amber. I have to switch the power off entirely before switching it on again, and rebooting and this time the screen works. I've run scandisk, I've gone thru scannow, I've installed the latest graphics card drivers. I've tried changing the power settings. Bear in mind that this set up and computer has worked perfectly for 2 years and as all the hardware is working I believe it to be a software issue.
my computer start giving me blue screen error. It's a recurrent problem, but it happens only when I'm playing games, altough it seens to happen with all games, it happens more often when I'm playing World of Warcraft and Pro Evolution Soccer 2011, since they're the ones I play most. When the system crashes, the blue screen shows no file names but the log when the PC resets shows that BCCode: 7f / BCP1: 0000000D, don't know what it means. My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. I ran out of ideas for solutions, tried an OS reset (I was on XP and formated it to install 7), reinstalled all my drivers and tried all kinds of forums, looking for a solution, but nothing happened.
I just got a new computer, custom built nothing on either hard drives, i have a 1tb hard drive and a 64 gb SSD drive. I have a brand new windows 7 oem version, I start my computer up and it gets stuck on a screen.
my computer boots up and after log-in the welcome comes on, then my screen turns blue. i can move the cursor but nothing shows...it works fine in safe mode?
My computer boots up fine. All programs work fine. While I'm not using it (at least it hasn't happened while I'm using it) I hear it beep once and when I go to check the computer the screen wont show any picture, it's like the monitor is on but the PC is off.PC light is still on, hard drive still spinning and the fans are still on.I have to reset the PC and I get the "Windows was not properly shut down" message upon reboot.
It if very annoying because I am trying to do shit and then my screen will freeze for a few seconds, then go black for a few second, then flashes a couple times, and then starts to work again. the entire process takes about 15 to 20 seconds. The error message that comes up says
Display driver stopped responding and has recovered.Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 295.73 stopped responding and has successfully recovered.I've tried re-installing the drivers for my card but it didn't work. I have an NVIDIA Quadro NVS 420.
I'm not sure if this is the right section to post this but, ever since I reformatted my laptop, it randomly freezes for about a second and a stuttering noise comes up. Then the screen turns black. It doesn't shut off because I could see the back light, it just turns completely black. What's causing this problem and how do I fix it? I checked the Event Logger and there are tons of errors and some critical kernal-power things.
My systems sometimes freezes during the boot process and all I get is black screen.
This happens when the error occurs: BIOS shows up normally Window 7 logo is shown for a brief second black screen
With boot details enabled, I see that drivers are getting loaded until classpnp.sys. After that the screen goes black as well and the system hangs.
Now when I turn on the machine, I get a text screen asking me whether to start normally or run a recovery attempt. Usually starting normally is all it takes and Windows boots up fine. Once Windows is up and running, it's rock solid. No lockups, no BSODs or whatsoever.
Unfortunately I have no idea how to get debug details of this part of the boot process (os loader phase?).
I already switched the SATA Ports, switched to a different brand and even switched to mSATA. So I'm pretty sure it's not the SSD. Using Windows SATA drivers or Intel RST doesn't make a difference either btw.
my monitor turns to black like its going to sleep and then when i check my computer, its still working but freezes after the blackout. I've tried going to control panel and change the power options but it still crashes. It happens when i am searching the net, playing a game,or starting my computer. Any suggestions?? My system is Windows 7 Home Basic, Processor: Intel (R) Core (TM)2 Quad CPU Q8400 @ 2.66 GHz 2.67 GHz, Installed memory (RAM): 2.00 GB and it is a 32-bit Operating system.
