My pc started crashing all of a sudden, it was running fine for about 3 weeks and then it just started blue screening every 10 minutes. it could be my tv card as I had to use third party drivers or my firewire audio interface that is running with vista 64bit drivers.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've had a change in my boot up. After I get the BIOS screen, I get a 1 or 2 second screen that says that it cannot detect the C: drive. Then I get a screen that lasts for 20 seconds titled Windows Boot Manager. The Windows 7 item is highlited and if I press enter or wait the 20 seconds, Windows loads. All my apps work with no problem. It's more of a mild concern that it is of a problem.

I restarted the unit to safe mode and left it on and browsed the net and downloaded some big files for how many hours and nothing happened.. there are also times when windows is still loading with the windows logo on screen, it crashes. there are also times when the login screen is displayed and it crashes. it just crashes randomly! so i tried to reformat it. i deleted the partitions and created a new one, formatted it then fresh installed windows 7 ( my previous OS is windows 7 by the way) and started installing the basic drivers and after a few hours, it crashed again...thinking that the driver installed might not be compatible, i tried another fresh install of windows (same execution, delete partition, create, install OS) and this time, without installing the drivers, it crashed again after a few hours... sometimes it crashes immediately after turning it on from cold start!

I have the HP DV 2610US and recently upgraded to Windows 7. I have noticed that if i leave my computer with my lid closed for like 30-40 minutes it would shut down & restart and show an error message with Blue Screen as the error. It's an HP, 4 gig RAM, Windows 7 pre-installed, etc.I was using it all night on the internet, putting my music collection on iTunes, etc. I had a lot of fun and was very impressed with this laptop.The second time I turned on the computer (the first being the initial install), Windows Updates was configuring and installing all of these automatic updates that it downloaded the first time I turned off the computer. I couldn't believe my eyes, it actually said it was configuring over 22,000 updates after I booted it up. Yes, THOUSAND. This went on for less than half an hour.Then it went to "installing" the updates, which had a progress bar that reached 100% in maybe 5 minutes.Then it was "starting Windows".Then it got hung up on a blue "bird" desktop background that said Windows 7 Premium at the bottom. The mouse was completely moveable but there was absolutely no action I could take. I left it like this for 30 minutes thinking, "well, it's just installing, but it really should give me a progress bar so I know what the hell is happening."At the 45 minute mark, I couldn't take it anymore. I called HP (the manufacturer of the laptop) for support. The guy asks me for the serial number, and I regretfully wasn't pleasant. I think I said "serial number? I haven't even owned this computer for 12 hours yet!"Anyway, he had me force a shutdown. And then upon booting the computer, I got the "this computer wasn't shut down properly". This is complete BS for a computer that even as I write this,hasn't been in my possession 24 hours yet. I am returning this piece of crap, but I want to know how can I prevent this from happening to the next computer I purchase. Is it necessary to not use Windows Updates, because whoever made these has their head up their ***? I mean "configuring 22,687 updates" on a brand new, 64-bit Windows 7 machine?

I've already tried restoring the system, but I get an error since the screen went black before the process began so I was forced to reboot.I doubt it's a GPU problem, since last night everything was working ok. I also doubt it's a monitor problem, because if it was, then the screen would be always black, no exceptions.

Also sometimes with only one browser window open and sometimes with 15 or more. Happens with both chrome and firefox. Has not happened with other programs as this lapy only gets used for surfing/email/forums etc. Sometimes happens while the computer is sitting idle right after boot. Very strange.

It if very annoying because I am trying to do shit and then my screen will freeze for a few seconds, then go black for a few second, then flashes a couple times, and then starts to work again. the entire process takes about 15 to 20 seconds. The error message that comes up says

After I type my password to log in I get a black screen with a mouse for about 2 minutes before the desktop loads. The thing I found that seems to be causing the problem is my wireless card. If turn wireless off windows will go directly from login screen to desktop, with wireless on I get this long delay. I'm using Windows 7 Ult. x64 and my wireless card is Atheros AR5007EG.

About 3 weeks ago after turning it on, a screen came up saying the cooling fan wasn't working and continued use could result in lost files. I went ahead and continued so I could backup files. Later in the day the fan made a funny noise and then started again. Since then it has been working. A few days ago the laptop started freezing randomly during use. The last couple of days it has been freezing every 10-15 minutes or so. I have to hold in the button to turn it off. I don't know if this is due to the fan maybe not properly cooling the laptop. According to HP my warranty has already ran out (I thought they typically lasted a year?). I imagine it would be cheaper at a repair shop than to send to HP if needed. But before I spent any money, I wanted to see if maybe it was a simple fix I could do myself. I ran startup repair and restored it to a previous day. It didn't fix the problem.
