Crashed And Now Won't Boot?
Aug 18, 2011
Ok so my computer was running sluggish before it eventually totally froze up. I reset the laptop (dell inspiron duo) and now everytime after going through dell screen/bios it tells me that "windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change may be the cause" or something like that and gives me the option to load either run windows normally or launch startup repair. No matter which option I choose I get windows is loading files and a White loading bar at the bottom of the page. Once this is complete the Microsoft green loading bar, no logo, will run through once before taking me to a blue screen which appears to be some kind of back ground. There's a dove carrying a branch and some White lines/lighting effects. This isn't my home screen and all that I can do is move the cursor around.
Nothing else happens and there is none of the usual start up behaviour. As far as I am aware there is no malware and the only new software that has been installed was the drivers to use an xbox controller with the pc via plug and play which was around 12 hours ago and the machine has since been turned on and off without problem up until now.

during the night yesterday my computer crashed, i can't boot it at all. keeps giving me video signal errors, but when I use a linux live dvd, everything works fine, so it is only windows7 that is the problem... I tried using the W7 installation disc but the recovery and restore functions are not working either.

My computer crashed today and I can't get it to boot up. I can hit ESC during startup and get the menu. I ran all the tests and everything passed. I am trying to create a Windows 7 disk so I can boot it from there since my computer won't start up. I'm not sure where I can download this.

My laptop used to run on Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit, but the OS crashed and just wouldn't boot. I tried using my laptop's recovery disc, but that had some problem and doesn't help me restore my laptop. I hope to format my hard-drive and do a fresh install of Windows 7. But for that I don't have an installation disc, I have a registered key for Windows 7 at the bottom of my laptop though

My mate had trouble with wayyyy too low fps in a game.W decided to install Windows 7 ultimate x64 on his laptop then.We couldn't upgrade vista to it, so we chose the "custom install" option, where Windows 7 gets installed separately and vista gets moved into a folder called windows.old.We were almost done with the install and had just passed the time and network setup, suddenly a small window flashes with the text "windows failed to complete...." we couldnt see the rest and the laptop rebooted. Then we got continually stuck on "press any key to boot from CD or DVD...".Sometimes we get it to continue and it gets stuck on "Windows is loading files". And 2 times it completed loading files and shut down instantly after.

I recently bought a new power supply, along with more ram because I was already ordering the power supply. When the package came and I set everything up in the computer, the PC turned on and everything was fine. I started to play a game with my friend and the computer just turned off. No error message, nothing. I believe the computer overheated, but I could be completely wrong. Now, when I start my computer up, it gets to the Launch System Repair (Recommended) or Start Windows Normally. If I select one of them, it will get into the 'Starting Windows' screen with the orbs, and then the monitor will just go blank. The computer still runs in the background, but my monitor just is blank. It is not the RAM (I switched and went to my old RAM) And I also cannot boot into safe mode, or anything of the sort, as the same thing happens. And I cannot boot from a CD (Tried with a windows 7 repair disc and computer goes blank again)

It's a dell latitude, 1 year old. Laptop suddenly crashed and when the laptop booted it said: "no boot sector on internal hard drive". I tried repairing the boot sector with the windows repair function, but the hard drive is just empty... nothing to repair. Then I tried to boot off a ubuntu live cd. which worked. and showed me an empty hard drive with the_maximum_capacity_of_the_drive_GB of unallocated space.
Since that I reinstalled windows 7 two times, and stopped working after an hour or so. I installed ubuntu, which worked for several days. then i tried windows 7 again (clean install). And then I kept working on the laptop for a couple of hours until the "crash" happened. All the programs stopped working suddenly. When I opened anything I was shown this error: "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion."
After that everything is lost if I turn the computer off. And I'm back at an empty unformatted hard drive. I changed the sata operation mode in the bios to different options before every installation of windows. I didn't try xp, because I don't have dell-xp cd's . Is the hard drive broken? I guess not because ubuntu works. and windows 7 also, but it just goes away suddenly... Here's a video (shot in portraitmode) of the event... [URL].

HP Pavilion laptop purchased in June 2011 - still under a 2 year warranty, but would prefer to resolve this myself if at all possible. In the last few days I've started experiencing some BSOD issues, which got particularly acute late night...constant BSODing as well as just system freeze ups. I ran Avast antivirus scan, as well as a MalwareBytes scan and the Housecall scan. I used CCleaner, downloaded what windows updates my computer said were available. Was going to try to defrag but it crashed again. On a netbook right now.this is the BSOD error I get:---kernal_data_inpage_error***STOP: 0x0000007A (0x0000000000000020, 0xFFFFFFFFC000009D, 0xFFFFFA8006E0F078, 0x0000000000000000)Physical memory dumpy FAILED with status 0xC000009CI have no idea what that means - not super troubleshooting saavy beyond the basics

playing around with my new computer, i was trying to record a sound playing on Internet with the microphone using the sound recorder. after about 10 seconds, the whole system froze - i couldn't even move the mouse cursor and had to unplug the computer and re-boot. what's the problem and is there an easy fix? below is a screen shot of my system specs, if that's any help.

as the title says, I was just talking with some friends on skype and then the computer froze like when it's going to give you a BSOD but instead of that it just froze, so I turned it off and now the computer won't even show BIOS menu. RAMs are fine, they were tested by the retailers for 48 hours with memtest and tested by me for 24 hours (when the computer used to work). So to give you a clearly idea of what's happening, I press the power on button, there's a beep and the computer starts, right? my pc powers up but it never beeps, the CD/DVD reader works, the processor starts up, but it's just stuck there. I checked on the motherboard's user guide and it doesn't say anything about "not beeping"

I checked it out, It would turn on and only the "repair" buttons would show up.So I told him I'll reformat it for him. Its an HP Pavillion G6. So I boot it up, i get to the repair page, and i hit reformat. I Tell him to call me back when it's done. Apparently, his laptop did not have enough battery left so It died during the recovery. Now I believe the harddrive is completely empty. Where could I acquire a legal copy of windows (the OEM serial key is under the laptop on a sticker). I found an ISO File on microsoft's website. Its downloading at 500kb/second (3gb file)Is there anywhere I could download it quicker? Maybe torrent, etc. I would much rather prefer to suck the life out of my 1.5mb/s connection.

I have a Acer Aspire Laptop that was running Windows 7. The hard drive had totally crashed so I ordered one from Newegg. It came in and I installed the Western Digital Hard Drive. here was no problem in installing the hard drive. After installing I checked the Bios and the drive was recognized.I had ordered from Acer a set of Recovery CDs which I used today to recover Windows. All went well and I had the system up and running. There were a 109 Windows updates that I started. Went in the other room and came back in about a half an hour and the laptop was dead. I went into Bios and no drive was recognized.

I just got my first computer in place i installed win 7 on it and everything went smooth, but then i realized i had by misstake installed the 32bit version..so i checked the SSD, which is the only kind of storage drive i have right now, and for some reason the installation had made an partition called system drive or something on 100mb. the stupid thing is that it was nothing on it?? windows was still on C:? anyway , after many minutes of thinking i decided to just reinstall windows over the old one and so i did. it runned smooth and went perfect, i checked the preferences of my computer and as planned i now had the 64 bit version but 30Gb was lost on my SSD? i discovered that the old windows was still there, in the windows.old folder... i didnt think about much so i'd just pressed delete...
the crash: loud noise came from the computer and it shut off, now i cant get it to work!!!!!when i start it all the lights starts and the fans runs but nohting moreand how do i format the ssd so i can use it when i've fixed the computer!specs:Motherboard: MK Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H Socket 1155, Z68 CPU:Core i5 2500K Graphic: GK EVGA GeForce GTX 570 SC RAM:Corsair 8GB (KIT) DDR3 1600MHz/VENG. Computer threw out a bunch of weird language and then said crash and shut down. Now it doesn't really boot or reboot. I have to pull the battery to get it to restart and I get the HP logo when I put the battery back in and it takes me to a Windows Errory Recovery screen with two options: Launch Repair or Launch normally. Neither one of them does anything. I just get the blue screen.
I've tried the f8 key and the f10 key and can't seem to get to any other screen. I put the restore disk into the CD rom drive and I don't think it's accessing it at all.
It is an HP Pavilion dv7-4087cl with an Intel Core i5-430M processor and its running Windows 7 Home Premium OA 64 bit.

I am no expert when it comes to computers so please bear with me. My Acer Aspire laptop crashed on me. It uses Windows 7. Start up repair does not work. I have a set of Windows 7 disks, 32 bit and 64 bit. Not too sure which one I should have used so I tried both with the same results. I have tried to re-install Windows 7 again as well as repairing the Windows 7 which is already on my computer with the disks with no luck. When re-installing it gets stuck at 'Setup is starting'. It stays like that for hours. When I try the repair option it gets stuck at 'checking for operating system' or something to that effect, also for hours on end

I have a Toshiba laptop with Windows 7 and I am using Kaspersky for protection. Last night it gave me an error (I can't remember what it said) and then when I went to reboot the computer it got as far as showing the toolbar at the bottom with the start button. Once it reached that state it stopped and just showed the hourglass. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas? Or, is the computer dead and I need to try to find someplace that can fix the hard drive?

I tried to set up a dual boot system ( Vista Ultimate and Win 7 Pro) this aft and my computer he miraged and froze up. Finally got it working again but I don't know how, just luck. I followed the recommendations and made copy of Win 7 on ISO disk, I think it works but I'm not sure, and I unplugged the drive which has Vista on it and tried to boot. My computer froze solid even before it loaded OS file. Why do I need to unplug my C: drive? Is that the only way to do a clean install?

I tried installing ubuntu on my HP pavilion dm4 today by dual booting it and keeping both windows 7 and ubuntu on the different partitions. I installed ubuntu 10.10 successfully but the thing was when I am restarting the laptop. Its asking me to choose the operating system but when i choose windows 7 it says to repair the system and to repair I should have a Windows 7 DVD. I got the system 10 days back and i had no back up of the system and I think my HP recovery was also crashed. I dont know what to do. How to bring my Windows back? The good thing was ubuntu was working good and I am using it now...

But my biggest obstacle is that I am just a layperson with very little knowledge of computer lingo. plain non-technical language. LOLMy HP touchsmart tm2 crashed a few weeks ago after I tried making a recovery disk using drive D on the laptop (which wasn't the smartest thing I could've done!). After a 4 hours, I got the error message that I did not have enough space. But when I tried to undo it by doing a restore point prior to the recovery disk making, it did not work and i ended up with zero memory left on my computer which led to the computer crashing. When I tried a factory reset, it did not work and i ended up with a computer that does not boot... some error i could not recall anymore.
Bottomline, I had my computer sent to a "technician" here in my city who said there was no way to boot my computer except to replace the OS.... which he did by putting a Windows 7 Ultimate operating system into my computer. It now works fine... EXCEPT for the fact that this is a pirated software. He warned me not to do updates on it as it will detect the illegal software and freeze my laptop. I cannot live with the fact that I am now using an "illegal" software when by rights, I still should be able to use the original "legal" one which came with my laptop when I purchased it.My other problem is that I did not create a recovery disk way back when i first got this laptop, so I couldn't do it from there. I have the product key to my windows 7 OS but i am not sure which version of windows 7 came with my laptop originally, i only know that my laptop has a windows 7 sticker on it plus the product key sticker in the back.

I started watching an OTA recording with WMC7 and about 2 minutes into it WMC7 stopped. A message came up saying it stopped & had options to restart WMC or go online (which appeared to send info to MS) and a 3rd option I don't recall. I just restarted & everything worked just fine.
I looked at event logs & found this. I did a search for that ntdll.dll but could not find a definitive answer to what caused the problem. The typical comments were to reboot or reinstall software. Is there anything from this listing that tells or hints at what caused WMC to stop?

This is the exact laptop I have, Asus X54C 15.6 inch laptop (Intel Pentium B960 2.2GHz, 8Gb RAM, 500Gb HDD, DVDSMDL, LAN, WLAN, Webcam, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit): Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories
This morning when turning it off, it started to update with the usual screen saying not to turn it off or unplug. I went out to do some stuff, and when I came back my laptop was turned off so I assumed the installation had finished. However when I pressed the power on button the laptop turned on, it was still how I had left it installing updates. However it seemed to be making no progress whatsoever. It was still on 1 of 60 updates. I left it for a while, but I needed to take it home and seen as it wasn't doing anything I held the power on/off button to power down the laptop to take it home. When home the laptop would refuse to boot to windows, and the screen would just go black. I tried to start the laptop in safemode, but again it wouldn't load. I performed startup repair but it said the problem couldn't be fixed. I then performed a system restore, however it also said that could not be performed. However after clicking okay, windows loaded up and prompted me to log in. Upon which I am on the computer now with no problems, a contradictory message came up saying that the system restore had been succesful. I'm now worried that there still could be some problem that might arise when I close down my computer and need to start it up the next time, in addition it is wanting me to install updates and prompting me to restart my computer. Does anyone have any advice on how I can ensure that the computer does not have the same problems again when updating, and in addition how can I make sure that there are no problems waiting in the computer to surface again and it is fixed?

I am writing this windows safe mode.Cannot get computer to boot in reg mode. Sat for 40 minutes, with message "please wait while windows configures"Am running windows 7, 64 bit home, Dell Inspiron 570 It started yesterday when it downloaded updates for Windows. After the restart, the computer screen looked strange and could not open any programs. Went to "start" and re-booted, same thing happened again. I again went to start, this time it came up with 2 errors. (wish I had wrote them down) but said something about windows cannot find such and such. (sorry) Anyway, clicked on the "X" and windows came up again, but nothing would open. Had to hard boot as the start button would not even work.Rebooted into safe mode and have tried to return to a previous restore point. Seems I don't have any. So can't do that. I did go go to the recent installed windows updates and deleted them. But will not let me change the settings as in: Don't install updates automatically. I don't know if it is trying to install those over and over again. I tried to get it to come up again with the errors, but no such luck, it just sits with the blue welcome screen, then the "please wait"

My computer crashed and I lost all my Sims data. I tried to reinstall with the original discs but when I got to the 20 digit code on the box, it said it was invalid (probably because it belonged to me). I had installed Sims 3, Expansion packs World Adventures, and Ambitions. I recently bought Late Night, but my computer crashed before I downloaded it. How can I reinstall these? Will any of the work I did on each one be restored, or will I need to start in the beginning of each one?
