My laptop used to run on Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit, but the OS crashed and just wouldn't boot. I tried using my laptop's recovery disc, but that had some problem and doesn't help me restore my laptop. I hope to format my hard-drive and do a fresh install of Windows 7. But for that I don't have an installation disc, I have a registered key for Windows 7 at the bottom of my laptop though

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy laptop crashed the other day after a Windows update. To make a long story short it would not boot up. I tried several things to no avail. System restore disc did not work. At this point I thought the hard drive was fried. Finally I stuck the the Windows 7 companion disk and got the system to boot I can tell all my files are there somewhere due to amount of memory taking up on the hard drive. Anyways my main problem it is now asking for the product key although I have 29 days which unfortunately I cannot find. Laptop in question is a Lenovo G550. Where do I go from here? Do I have to purchase a new key? I've been using the laptop since and it seems to be working properly as far as i can tell.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy mate had trouble with wayyyy too low fps in a game.W decided to install Windows 7 ultimate x64 on his laptop then.We couldn't upgrade vista to it, so we chose the "custom install" option, where Windows 7 gets installed separately and vista gets moved into a folder called windows.old.We were almost done with the install and had just passed the time and network setup, suddenly a small window flashes with the text "windows failed to complete...." we couldnt see the rest and the laptop rebooted.Then we got continually stuck on "press any key to boot from CD or DVD...".Sometimes we get it to continue and it gets stuck on "Windows is loading files". And 2 times it completed loading files and shut down instantly after.

When the package came and I set everything up in the computer, the PC turned on and everything was fine. I started to play a game with my friend and the computer just turned off. No error message, nothing. I believe the computer overheated, but I could be completely wrong. Now, when I start my computer up, it gets to the Launch System Repair (Recommended) or Start Windows Normally. If I select one of them, it will get into the 'Starting Windows' screen with the orbs, and then the monitor will just go blank. The computer still runs in the background, but my monitor just is blank. It is not the RAM (I switched and went to my old RAM) And I also cannot boot into safe mode, or anything of the sort, as the same thing happens. And I cannot boot from a CD (Tried with a windows 7 repair disc and computer goes blank again)
View 9 Replies View RelatedOk so my computer was running sluggish before it eventually totally froze up. I reset the laptop (dell inspiron duo) and now everytime after going through dell screen/bios it tells me that "windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change may be the cause" or something like that and gives me the option to load either run windows normally or launch startup repair.No matter which option I choose I get windows is loading files and a White loading bar at the bottom of the page. Once this is complete the Microsoft green loading bar, no logo, will run through once before taking me to a blue screen which appears to be some kind of back ground. There's a dove carrying a branch and some White lines/lighting effects. This isn't my home screen and all that I can do is move the cursor around.
Nothing else happens and there is none of the usual start up behaviour.As far as I am aware there is no malware and the only new software that has been installed was the drivers to use an xbox controller with the pc via plug and play which was around 12 hours ago and the machine has since been turned on and off without problem up until now.
My computer crashed today and I can't get it to boot up. I can hit ESC during startup and get the menu. I ran all the tests and everything passed. I am trying to create a Windows 7 disk so I can boot it from there since my computer won't start up. I'm not sure where I can download this.
View 7 Replies View RelatedIt's a dell latitude, 1 year old. Laptop suddenly crashed and when the laptop booted it said: "no boot sector on internal hard drive". I tried repairing the boot sector with the windows repair function, but the hard drive is just empty... nothing to repair. Then I tried to boot off a ubuntu live cd. which worked. and showed me an empty hard drive with the_maximum_capacity_of_the_drive_GB of unallocated space.
Since that I reinstalled windows 7 two times, and stopped working after an hour or so. I installed ubuntu, which worked for several days. then i tried windows 7 again (clean install). And then I kept working on the laptop for a couple of hours until the "crash" happened. All the programs stopped working suddenly. When I opened anything I was shown this error: "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion."
After that everything is lost if I turn the computer off. And I'm back at an empty unformatted hard drive. I changed the sata operation mode in the bios to different options before every installation of windows. I didn't try xp, because I don't have dell-xp cd's . Is the hard drive broken? I guess not because ubuntu works. and windows 7 also, but it just goes away suddenly... Here's a video (shot in portraitmode) of the event... [URL].

I've done reformatting / reinstalling Windows 7 several times, yet the problem still occurs. I'm thinking of my HDD as being corrupted or messed up. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been having a bit of trouble with windows 7 lately, namely that it won't start up right. When I boot from the drive normally, it gives me the classic "BOOT DISK ERROR: INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" message.
However, I soon discovered that if I boot from the Windows 7 cd and do not boot from it (By ignoring the "Press a key to boot from CD or DVD..." Windows 7 boots up fine.
I've tweaked my BIOS over and over, but the same problem persists. The drive is brand new and fine. What can I do?

Nothing works other than putting in the boot disk and hitting the restart button on the tower. Then it will boot up and run fine. But how do I stop it from having to have the disk in order to load? Checked in the BIOS and the hard drive is the first load.

Fast forward to today, I decided to reformat because the boot would get stuck in the middle of trying to boot into windows, it wouldn't flash the windows logo. I didn't think much of it so I just reformatted. This is where my real troubles began.So I reinstall windows 7 pro with no problems (the boot disk is in there the cd drive the entire time) I install my programs and what not and install my updates. All 100% Fine. Then I take out the boot disk and restart again... and I get this error message saying:

So the first time I got this error, I just thought, Oh, something must have happened no big deal, so I reformatted again and again. But I kept on getting the same exact error. It'll load into windows just fine when my install disc is in the cd drive, but when I take it out, that error pops up. *My windows is authentic, each time I have been able to validate my copy.* I have tried installing from my hard drive and from the install disc with same error.*

I want to do a 'custom' reinstall on my C: drive. It's clogged with unused programs and it runs very slow.I set the BOIS to boot from HD and CD; neither worked. View 4 Replies View RelatedMy father's PC is quite new, with Intel i5200 chip, 4Gb RAM and ASUS motherboard with onboard graphics. About a month ago he experienced random BSODs, he is not aware of any particular program causing them, and the dump files I have seen are all different.
BSODs increased in frequency, so I said I'd take a look at it, reinstall Windows, whatever. Anyway, it took me hours to back up his photos between crashes, and then I found I couldn't boot from HDD or WIn 7 DVD (full retail disk). I get to the Windows did not start successfully, run Repair screen, but it doesn't run it. Likewise from the DVD, it loads the initial files, then crashes to the Repair screen, only to not run it.
Likely culprits? HDD? RAM or PSU? It's in warranty, but I'd like a steer on possible causes before he sends it back, you can never know too much!
i watched this video on Internet where this guy had windows loaded on a ddr2 or ddr3 ram disk (i guess you would call it that) and windows booted in less than 4 seconds and programs opened up instantly. i have not one clue how he did it but would this be possible to do and put all of your everyday programs on it? like your web browser, media center, and what ever else you use most often, and you put the rest of your programs on a ssd?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows 7 32 Bit Home Premium, and at random times the PC will shut down and come up with the BSOD. After I try to boot up the computer I get a message saying 'Disk Boot Failure Insert system disk and press enter. Most of the time the only way I can get it to boot up is if I open up the case and disconnect the hard disk and dvd drive and reconnect them. On the initial screen after pressing the power button, it'll take a while before it detects IDE drives. If I don't disconnect/reconnect them, then at the initial screen it will sit at that screen and will not detect any disk/dvd drive.Does anybody know a proper solution without having to disconnect and reconnect the hard disk/dvd drive as I think that this may not be a good idea?

However, now Windows won't automatically boot from the SSD. I can hit the boot menu at startup and select the drive manually, but it does not show up in the arrangeable list of drives to automatically boot from. How do I make Windows automatically boot from the SSD? Windows 7 is fully installed and updated on it; it works fine when I automatically select it, but Windows refuses to notice it unless I tell it that it is there.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a "DISK BOOT FAILURE" error during startup. I just installed Ultimate x64 and now this error appears. It was OK on Ultimate x86.
I detached all hard drives and USB devices except system disk and DVD ROM and still error appears. I booted from installation disk and ran repair and still error appears. I booted again from installation disk and ran next cmd:
bcdedit /export C:BCD_Backup
c:
cd boot
attrib bcd -s -h -r
ren c:ootcd bcd.old
bootrec /RebuildBcd
and still error appears.
The only way to run Windows 7 is to insert installation disk to DVD, wait until message "Press any key to run from cd or dvd", DO NOT press any key and wait. In a few seconds Windows 7 starts.
My friend's Gateway laptop has problems and I want to install Windows again. But when I try to boot to the installation disk, after I select the DVD in the boot selection menu, I just get a blank screen with a flashing cursor. After a few minutes, one time I saw a message that said something like "bootmgr cannot be found" or is missing or something like that.
But the computer can successfully boot to a Puppy Linux boot disk.
