View 1 RepliesSo when I try to turn on my computer it goes right to startup repair. Now after a while it says windows cannot repair your computer automatically. So I went to advanced options to try and do a restore point. Now when that is done running and it says complete it goes to a screen that says system restore did not complete successfully. Your computers files and settings were not changed.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am trying to restore my dads Toshiba Satellite laptop to a good state as it has been running for years without any regular service and was running extremely slow.So far I have - - Restored laptop to factory settings - Installed Avast Antivirus Free - Installed over 100 'important updates' from Windows Updates - Defragmented hard drive - Run Avast thought a Boot-time Scan - Run TDSSKiller...and unwisely run ComboFix witThe computer now seems to run faster than it was (although this seems to fluctuate), and all the tests I've ran have come up with no signs of spyware/malware, but the laptop still seems to shut down unexpectedly whenever I try to run an anti spyware/malware program when the laptop is already running in a normal windows start-up.I also have Malwarebytes installed which I'm sure I've tried to run already unsuccessfully ('i've been trying to sort this laptop out since lastnight), but most recently, I installed/run Glary Utilities 'one-click' solution and all seemed to be going well until the 'spyware checker' started to run, after which the laptop shut down again.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFollowing the removal of some malware [URL], I have not been able to enable my Server Service in Windows 7. I was advised to post this here. This means I cannot share files, use bonjour services, vnc etc. I have encountered Error 1068: The dependency or group failed when I enabled the server service in services.msc.
I have already tried the following (and none worked):
- Enabling in safe mode
- Enabling all startup services in msconfig
- Modifying the registries in folders: Ndisuio, EapHost, and Dhcp (with instructions specified on another site)
- Checking the firewall.
I recently followed procedures for removal a rogue Windows 7 Recovery malware application on my Windows 7 Home Premium system. After the successful removal of the malware, my Start Menu Programs are all missing (basically nothing in there) and 95% of all my icons (on the desktop, within Win Explorer) are all grayed-out. (They still work but are gray). I have a feeling it could be a corrupted user profile, but I'm not sure. So far, I've restarted twice, right-clicked the start button to make sure default settings are set, ran a CMD prompt with SFC /SCANNOW.
View 1 Replies View Relatedso somehow I caught the malware program known as Windows 7 recovery. As per its standard operations it made my computer seem like it was having a bunch of issues, hid all the files on my hard drive, removed my background, etc. I followed a removal guide I found here on bleeping computer and it did rid of me of that annoying malware. A lingering problem I am still experiencing is that all my start menu items are missing. For example there is a folder for Microsoft office, but when you open it it shows as empty, but if I open a Microsoft office file like say a word file the program opens as normal. I have run the unhide.exe file a couple of times, and shutdown my firewall and maleware protection, but to no avail the start menu items still seem to remain hidden.

I want to be able to restart Windows, by choice, either without startup programs running, or with startup programs running. The reason is that I have an old (~2001) Palm m105 PDA handheld that updates using Palm HotSync Manager via a USB/serial port cradle (Serial Port 6). It works very well and I don't have a need to replace it with something more up to date, but the problem is, when I try to run the hotsync while other programs are running, I get a Windows BSOD at some point before the hotsync finishes, I have to reboot every time, and the hotsync never finishes. However, I find that if I shut down almost every optional running program before running the hotsync, then I can run the hotsync to completion without the BSOD happening. As a workaround, to simplify things, I figure that when I'm ready to run the hotsync, if I reboot Windows to a state where no applications are running, I can run the hotsync and then reboot Windows back to its normal startup state, with all the normal startup programs running. This all seems very labor and time intensive regardless of how I do it.One way I thought of doing this more cleanly (though probably not saving any time) is to create another user account, with no startup programs, and run the hotsync from there, and switch between the two.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm a Mac user and an avowed keyboard shortcut enthusiast. On a Mac we have a wonderful app (prog in Winspeak) called Quicksilver, which makes it possible (among other things) to switch between running programs using the keyboard (i.e., without the hunt and click mouse nonsense). All I have to do is invoke a hot-key, type one or two letters (it remembers the apps I use most!), press Enter and BAM! I'm there. I find this so much faster than hunting for the right icon on the taskbar, or alt-tabbing through 10-15 apps to get to where I want to go. Alas, in Windows (any flavor, be it 2K, XP, Vista or 7), if I do anything other than alt-tab to a running program, or click on its icon on the taskbar, I'm going to start another instance of that program, which means loading duplicates of all the resources that have already been loaded into memory! Using Excel as an example, all I want is to hit the Windows key, type e x, hit Enter (assuming Excel is the first choice) and switch to the one (and only) instance of Excel that is already running. Is that really too much to ask? For the record, I have tried a number of Windows based Quicksilver knockoffs, and they all suffer from the same limitation. So it seems that trapping which programs are already running is an impossible feat under Windows?

So don't know how things were just before the shutdown or anything.when i turn on the computer i get to the screen where "touch bios" is and where i can see the options like Bios settings, boot menu, xpress recovery.but i cant press anything, and after about two seconds on that screen the PC shuts down again. The keyword lights up so there is a responds on it, but just doesn't work to press anything before it shuts down.I've got BSOD upto several times a day for a few months time.believe that my computer is affected by some virus or something is delaying my computer. might be an combination of several things.I got no external things hugged up to the stationeer computer right now.it is a windows 7 x64 machine.
usually when i get issues i can access advanced boot up or bios, but can neither in this case..I wonder if it might be a hardware issue.
I left my computer - which is an Acer Aspire One, that I purchased, refurbished, a few months ago from a local dealer and came preloaded with Windows Starter 7 - closed, but without turning it off, for a few hours while I ran out to a cafe with a friend (which I've done hundreds of times before. But, when I came back, it was frozen on the firefox tab I had open when I left. So, I figured, I'll just turn it off with the power button and turn it back on. When I did this, Windows stalled out while opening and wasn't going anywhere, and then the screen went black and it went back to the Acer splash screen and told me that Windows had failed to start and suggested I run Startup Repair. So I did, and, after about 5 minutes, it went to a blue screen with a white hummingbird and some curly bits behind it, and a slightly distorted cursor that moves on the screen when I use my keypad and hasn't moved since. That was about 20 minutes ago. I'm really stressing out, because I don't know what to do, and there are files on there that I need for work.

View 2 Replies View RelatedBought some pieces, assembled a new PC, installed Windows 7 Ultimate, then SP1, then several programs and everything seemed to be fine. But the next day, without changing anything, some programs won't start correctly, to be more precise: their processes seem to start (or at least they show up on Task Manager, but consuming only a few KB of ram and no CPU) but no program window appears whatsoever. Sometimes rebooting the PC will stop this from happening, but not always. Here I attach screenshots of CPU-Z and the customary files for debugging BSODs. Full system specs: [URL].

View 2 Replies View RelatedFirst off Im running Avast and comodo and full malware bytes. But what Im wondering is if there is a way to check deeper for malware or issues? Reason Im asking is I think I may have downloaded an iffy program. My mouse seems to be studdering a bit ( and it didnt do it until now ) Im running a new build of only 1-2 mths old. So is there anything to look for in terms of processes etc? Or would Comodo, Avast and or Malware bytes have said something to me? Comodo kept popping up when I was installing it, but it does that anyway with any program.
