Laptop Shuts Down When Running Various Anti Spyware/malware Programs?
Sep 14, 2012
I am trying to restore my dads Toshiba Satellite laptop to a good state as it has been running for years without any regular service and was running extremely slow.So far I have - - Restored laptop to factory settings - Installed Avast Antivirus Free - Installed over 100 'important updates' from Windows Updates - Defragmented hard drive - Run Avast thought a Boot-time Scan - Run TDSSKiller...and unwisely run ComboFix witThe computer now seems to run faster than it was (although this seems to fluctuate), and all the tests I've ran have come up with no signs of spyware/malware, but the laptop still seems to shut down unexpectedly whenever I try to run an anti spyware/malware program when the laptop is already running in a normal windows start-up.I also have Malwarebytes installed which I'm sure I've tried to run already unsuccessfully ('i've been trying to sort this laptop out since lastnight), but most recently, I installed/run Glary Utilities 'one-click' solution and all seemed to be going well until the 'spyware checker' started to run, after which the laptop shut down again.
The laptop is a Toshiba L455D-S5976 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. how to take it off of the computer but it was to no avail- downloading Spyware Doctor wasnt possible because the machine's internet connection is shot (due to Win 7 Antispyware 2012). I had Malwarebytes previously installed from an earlier fix, I update the definitions and scanned the PC, it came back with a few results but removing the found items had no effect. Same situation for SuperAntiSpyware and AdAware. I had to yank the malware out through the registry and now nothing can install, the PC is saying that there is no hardware (no ethernet controller, wifi, audio or anything). Windows Aero is disabled and isnt available to be selected- as if the graphics card doesnt support it.
I am looking around for a virus/malware protection program.Something that will detect viruses AS they come in, instead of having to wait untill you are infected, then running a scan. The software should monitor the network for outgoing and incoming connections, to seek out Now I have come across a number of programs before in my past, and used a number of them as well, but I am curious as to what programs are currently "on top" as far as virus detection rules, and security features goes, and most review sites seem to be biast toward which software company pays them most to talk them up.
Disk checker was running and my laptop shut off midway through, since then my laptop hasn't been working because windows explorer is not responding. Safe mode works perfectly fine. What could be the problem and how should I resolve it?
I'm running Win 7 64 bit. On my previous systems, I generally rely on the following 3 free utilities for system protection:
- Avira AntiVir
- Spybot Search and Destroy
- Ad-aware
I've heard a lot of good things about Microsoft Security Essentials, and at least as a AV tool it's up there with Avira, Avast, etc. But how about its effectiveness as a malware / spyware blocker, detector, and remover?
Can it safely replace all 3 of the aforementioned products? Or should I use something else in conjunction with MSE?
I had a problem with a website while running Microsoft Security Essentials. I tried to reinstall MSE but I keep getting an error during the installation. I also tried to install AVG with no luck. It is like I can't install programs.
remove ZeroAccess trojans that were traumatizing my laptop erfectly (used ComboFix,MalwareBytes and TDSSKiller) and the malware doesn't show up on any scans anymore (ran from Safe Mode), but I cannot access my desktop for more than 5min at a time before it freezes up and I have to manually shut down and start up again. I managed to re-install my Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 temporarily, but it doesn't show up on my desktop or taskbar. I have tried SFC/scannow returned :"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them." My system restore does not work either for some reason since I got this laptop a year ago and Startup Repair shows no errors.. I am relatively good with computer diagnosis, but this one has me losing sleep for two days straight.
I have been using Norton products since the day I bought a computer and have found that it is pretty much a resource hog when I am trying to play video games like the newest game Battlefield 3. What antivirus software is a low resource hog and does not take up many resources to run the computer? I would prefer free, but I can buy it as well if that needs to be necessary.
I recently followed procedures for removal a rogue Windows 7 Recovery malware application on my Windows 7 Home Premium system. After the successful removal of the malware, my Start Menu Programs are all missing (basically nothing in there) and 95% of all my icons (on the desktop, within Win Explorer) are all grayed-out. (They still work but are gray). I have a feeling it could be a corrupted user profile, but I'm not sure. So far, I've restarted twice, right-clicked the start button to make sure default settings are set, ran a CMD prompt with SFC /SCANNOW.
I leave my game running at night when I get up in the morning the computer's still on but the game client is no longer running, what is shutting down the game?
As I shutdown/restart my laptop, I notice it switches to a secondary desktop that has been running programs.A good example would be trying to open my Task Manager, I can Ctrl-Alt-Del and it will allow me to open Task Manager - however when I click on Task Manager, it opens on the Desktop running in the background. I can't even access the Desktop in the background, it only shows up as I'm shutting down - closing programs that I tried opening awhile ago.
I am having a big issue with my computer. I originally ran windows xp professional until i upgraded to adobe cs5 and needed to switch to windows 7.now that i have windows 7 my programs stop working constantly. if i'm working in photoshop on a large photo the screen will go blank and a bubble will pop-up saying "driver stopped working but has started working again" and a lot of times photoshop, illustrator, and FL Studio will stop working and need to be shut down and started again. i've noticed sometimes when the computer is on overnight i'll wake up and it will be off. when i turn on the computer it will say that it didn't shut down properly. i was in the process of doing batch photo edits and it shut down on me right in the middle so i've got to figure out the problem. since i use this computer for freelance graphic design and photography. here are my specs.
ver the past year I could say I have been been getting a lot of random shutdowns with my Dell Studio 15. This can happen when I'm browsing the web, trying to play a game, or I leave my laptop on for a extended period of time (a day or more). I realize a year is along time to wait to solve a problem, but better now than never. My laptop is a Dell Studio 1555 running Windows 7 x64. Sometimes when I turn my laptop back on I can hear the fan running rapidly, yet when it shuts off I do not hear it. I believe these are due to heat and I just need to clean out my laptop. If and when I leave it on I come back to find it has restarted and most of the time there is a not a Blue Screen notice. Usually in this situation I just left my laptop on or I am streaming media. Sometimes it will Blue Screen but most recently, within the past few months it has not. Today it actually has produced one. Unfortunately I believe most logs are deleted due to my use of CCleaner and TuneUp Utilities, but I do have Critical events in my Error Logs which date back to 2 months ago.
I bought my little sister ''The Sims 3'' a while back and the first few weeks it was alright, until it randomly shut down with no warning. I heard a faint popping noise and the screen went black. So I turned it back on, and it started again. My sister had to play it all again.
i dont know much about computers but when ever i turn on my laptop, it shuts down after about 3 seconds, it doesnt even show the boot up page, im using some one elses laptop to type this
I have a Toshiba Satellite Laptop that keeps giving me a message stating "The following programs are still running...." My issue is the list of programs is empty. So, if nothing is running why am I getting this message?I just need to figure out how to get my computer to shut down without having to go through all the annoyance of having to keep sitting at my computer once I tell it to shut down.
Laptop left on overnight, shuts off on own. When I bootup in Morning says problem shutting down and suggests I start windows in safe mode.It used to just hybernate. I would turn back on normally in the morning.I recently had a virus I removed that almost caused me to lose my hard drive. Then I was getting an error message everytime I started up that System couldn't find qwscn.ddl. I removed that ddl.
EDIT: the problem has returned and the previous solution doesn't work anymore. Uploading new .ZIP file in OP and last reply.
I have been searching the Internet a bit to find a solution to this issue. Mostly this has been linked to specific programs (like iTunes), which I don't have. Someone said it might be BSOD so I did the procedure.
Basically, my laptop doesn't go to Sleep, but instead freezes. This happens when closing the lid, pressing the "power" button or doing manual Sleep from Start menu. The screen goes black, but won't "wake up" anymore - the only way out is a forced shutdown and restart. If the laptop is in this freezed state long enough it will shut itself down automatically. The machine is 2 months old with pre-installed Windows.
Sadly my Advent 9215 has a habit of shutting off sometimes and it is annoying.I am aware of my laptop being fairly warm but no where near too hot!Weirdly it refuses to turn on afterwards sometimes without the power lead plugged in. Weird or what... and it wasn't low on battery
my widows 7 pro 64 bit seems to only be runningthe 32 bit programs for some reason, it did this a couple of monthsago, so i restored to an earlier time, this sorted it out, now i have triedto do the same and the only restore point is from yesterday 26.07.2012no dates exists before this, i am thinking part of window has been orruptedor something maybe a virus
