I bought my little sister ''The Sims 3'' a while back and the first few weeks it was alright, until it randomly shut down with no warning. I heard a faint popping noise and the screen went black. So I turned it back on, and it started again. My sister had to play it all again.
View 5 Repliesver the past year I could say I have been been getting a lot of random shutdowns with my Dell Studio 15. This can happen when I'm browsing the web, trying to play a game, or I leave my laptop on for a extended period of time (a day or more). I realize a year is along time to wait to solve a problem, but better now than never. My laptop is a Dell Studio 1555 running Windows 7 x64. Sometimes when I turn my laptop back on I can hear the fan running rapidly, yet when it shuts off I do not hear it. I believe these are due to heat and I just need to clean out my laptop. If and when I leave it on I come back to find it has restarted and most of the time there is a not a Blue Screen notice. Usually in this situation I just left my laptop on or I am streaming media. Sometimes it will Blue Screen but most recently, within the past few months it has not. Today it actually has produced one. Unfortunately I believe most logs are deleted due to my use of CCleaner and TuneUp Utilities, but I do have Critical events in my Error Logs which date back to 2 months ago.

I have been searching the Internet a bit to find a solution to this issue. Mostly this has been linked to specific programs (like iTunes), which I don't have. Someone said it might be BSOD so I did the procedure.
Basically, my laptop doesn't go to Sleep, but instead freezes. This happens when closing the lid, pressing the "power" button or doing manual Sleep from Start menu. The screen goes black, but won't "wake up" anymore - the only way out is a forced shutdown and restart. If the laptop is in this freezed state long enough it will shut itself down automatically. The machine is 2 months old with pre-installed Windows.
Sadly my Advent 9215 has a habit of shutting off sometimes and it is annoying.I am aware of my laptop being fairly warm but no where near too hot!Weirdly it refuses to turn on afterwards sometimes without the power lead plugged in. Weird or what... and it wasn't low on battery

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba L305D S5895 laptop. Hdd=250, Mem=2GB, Windows Vista upgrd to Windows 7 Hm prem 64bit. System power indicators does not light up except when both battery and AC are connected. When one of them (the Battery or the AC adapter) alone is plugged in, it does not light up. When both is plugged and I hit the switch, it starts briefly showing the Toshiba logo and then shuts down and the light goes off. I have to unplug both batt and AC and reconnect them again to get the power lights up. Battery is abt 11% charge and the AC adapter is ok when I tested it on a multimeter. I did a reset of BIOS by by pressing Switch for 30 secs before reconnecting power, but it did not help.

I have a Sony viao laptop vpc-f1290x. I probably will be unable to give any specs besides windows 7 and i7. Earlier I was playing stacraft 2 after waking it from hibernation and was listening to music with headphones on. I heard a horrific cranking noise and couldn't tell where it came from. A few minutes later I heard it again and realized it came from the fan area or so from the laptop. It turned off and I waited a minute and turned it back on. It started for a few seconds and turned back off. I left it for a few hours then turned it on again and it lasted to the desktop then turned off. I tried a different power source but that hasn't done anything.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAbout a week ago my PC had restarted on its own when I wasn't there and was stuck on a screen saying "Reboot and Select Proper Boot device or Insert Boot media in Selected Boot device and press any key ". I manually restarted the PC but nothing was shown on the screen. I turned off the PC, disassembled it and took out the BIOS battery and left it there for about 30 minutes. I then put everything back together and booted. The PC started fine but after about one hour it crashed for no reason. Since last week sometimes it crashes or restarts either within minutes from logging into windows either within an hour but never over 2 hours. At first I though it was a power supply issue, I had a Corsair VX550W for the last 4 years and so I replaced it with a brand new Corsair TX650, this has not solved anything though. But since I replaced the PSU the PC now only restarts every 1 hour when I am logged into windows. However, at this moment I have left it open into BIOS and it is working for 2 hours without any restart.

If I left my computer for 30mins, when I came back, it lags. While lagging, I opened Task Manager. The RAM usage its only 2.8Gb out of 8GB. If I use it for 2 mins, it back to normal...what is that?

I have had it done twice in the last hour I tried removing RAM in case that was the problem NO CHANGE. I bought a brand new power supply yesterday because I thought my old one was bad. It is a thermaltake 600 watts, which is more than enough to run this PC. A few days before that I got a new motherboard from the manufacturer. I am literally stumped, the only other thing I can think of is if my power switch is getting stuck. I have no idea how to replace or rewire a switch though besides getting a new case.

From time to time, without any specific reason, I've got BSOD's. I realise that often (but not always) they are connected with watching films or playing games (recently for instance Diablo 3). Sometimes BDSOD's occur 5 times during one day and sometimes I have they off my head for 2 weeks. I installed iTunes in order to update my iPhone but for some unknown reason after I installed iTunes many of my executables crash for no reason. When I say crash I mean they won't even start up. View 4 Replies View RelatedBasically, what seems to be happening is when I'm using a program or something, like, for example, Google Chrome, the window will randomly be deselected or deactivated. It's like someone clicked on another window. Normally, this isn't a huge deal. I just click on the window and keep typing until it happens again (it usually happens two or three times then stops for a while); It's just annoying. But the real issue is when I'm playing a full-screen game, where it's constantly minimized. Not only does it take a good minute or two for my slow computer to pull the window back up, but this also sometimes crashes games, like Team Fortress 2.I haven't been able to play any games for a while.
