I got this issue about a month or two ago, when my HP Pavilion 2000 suddenly started working. I can see the lights on, but the screen is just blank. I know there are battery issues, but when the screen started being blank, I doubted it.Should I just open it and replace the motherboard or check the wires being connected to the screen?

View 6 Replies View RelatedSo this has been happening ever since I got my computer. I took it in to see if a service could take a look at it and they ran a benchmark to get the usage to 100% for like 22 hours. Computer was still running fine he recommended me to get a UPS because it could be browning out but that solved nothing.
So what basically happens is that once a week or 3 times a day, it happens randomly, could be while playing a game or just browsing the web. What happens is that the monitor just freezes it is still on it is like a screenshot of my screen it stays still, cursor stops, audio stops, everything. The computer is still running fine it could be a failure in hardware but most likely not. It is not the monitor itself because it worked fine with the same monitor with my previous computer and I just got a new monitor last week.
I also noticed is if it happens once then it'll happen a few more times in a day then it'll stop for 1-2 days and start again, could just be a coincidence but I don't know...
So my friend has a computer with vista and was running alright until one day it started up with a completely white screen from boot and that is all it shows now. It's a Toshiba and has a horrible copy of Spy sweeper AV that is perpetually hung.

The detailed question is:-
I've just got a Dell XPS 8000 with a Nvidia GT 220 in it.
I'd like to run at least 4 19 inch screens. On my previous system (XP Pro 64 bit) I added a second PCI graphics card, which allowed me to run the 4 screens.
It's not for gaming, it's for developing, so I just need a lot of desktop real estate, more than 3D rendering power.
(Btw, I went for win 7 pro, due to the XP Pro Virtual machine, allowing me to run the 32bit cisco VPN client I need, in a 64 bit environment).
I installed the old PCI card I had a Nvidia GeForce FX 5200, but this seems to cause an issue with the GT220 card and the device manager reports it's stopped working (error code 43. I've googled it, seems a pretty generic error code, from what I can tell I think it's installing xddm drivers, which is the problem with wddm driver needed). I remove the card it BSOD's windows is unable to repair it, and I have to go back to a system restore point.
I see I have 2 spare PCIe x1 slots and a PCI slot on my motherboard.
Any suggestions?
Ideas I've toyed with are
1. Buy a PCIe x1 graphics card, possibly a quad card(but which one, nvidia or non nvidia)
2. Buy another PCI Graphics card,possibly a quad card( again which one? )
3. Can I spilt the HDMI and DVI outputs to give me 4 screens of 1280x1024. (or even 3 screens)
4. Scrap the GT 220, buy a PCI x16 card, then get another dual PCIe x1 card.(going to be very expensive I think).
NFS is no playing in full screen. There is black space for about 1 inch on both sides of the screen vertically.

anyhow my problem is,i am using doom3 and on MS compatibility site it says,that it is compatible with windows7 but it does not run in full screen,it always runs in short mode,from vertical angle it runs in full length but in horizantal,it leaves border on both left and right side,almost an inch.
i searched for it lots and found that i must check my intel vga main settings panel to allow it use full screen which i have attached with,the screenshot.it is using full screen mode,but it is not using full screen,
i installed vista on my drive D.and in it,it used full screen resolution.

View 5 Replies View RelatedOk so last night I ran chkdsk on my SSD which contains my OS (windows 7 ultimate 64 bit). It ran through fine and restarted as normal but after it took me back to the login screen my computer completely froze after typing my pw.I have tried EVERYTHING. I am able to boot in safe mode and have tried disabling all nonessential start up processes, i have ran sfc /scannow, i have tried startup repair multiple times, and i have tried reconfiguring the mbr (with 3 commands i found elsewhere though i cant recall the exact commands).Unfortunately, im an idiot and never made a system image or restore points and im really hoping im not screwed. There must be something that can be done. Im absolutely amazed that chkdsk caused this even though it seemed to run through flawlessly

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently started having trouble with my laptop running very slowly. I ran avg and also Spybot and they came back with no viruses or spyware. I opened the task manager and noticed that it is running at 100% CPU, and assume that is the reason for the lag. I noticed teatimer associated with Spybot S&D was taking up a lot of memory, so I uninstalled S&D and reinstalled it without the teatimer. That seemed to speed it up slightly, but it is still running slow, particularly when trying to play videos or opening programs needing java. I also ran PC tools registry mechanic to scan the registry, clean up the disks and registry, and defrag the registry, but not getting any faster. I have had it about 10 months. Yesterday a game I was playing crashed, and around the same time a Spybot pop-up appeared which said:

I was unable to click Allow Change or Deny Change because the laptop had frozen. I waited several minutes and tried to shut the game down using Task Manager processes, but nothing worked. In the end I shut it down by holding down the power button.When I restarted the laptop was going extremely slowly. I'm talking 5-10 minutes to open a blank Notepad. I don't know if it's to do with the Spybot message or if I damaged something by restarting in that way.This is what I have done so far. It is all guesswork on my part so I don't know if it was pointless:
- Started in safe mode. Everything runs very quickly. I started up my usual background programs one by one: Avast, Spybot, ZoneAlarm, iTunes, Audible download manager and OpenOffice. It still ran quickly.
- Ran CCleaner and deleted unncessary files, but it only amounted to about 400mb.
- Performed an Avast scan. Came up clean.
- Performed a Spybot scan. It reached the end and then froze before showing the results.
- Tried to use Spyboy's recovery but I think the CCleaner deleted those files because there was no recovery data :/
- Uninstalled the game that crashed, and other programs that I no longer use.
- Started again in normal mode, still going painfully slow there.

Also for non-real time protection but for a 2nd opinion, sometimes do a scan with MBAM or Super AntiSpyware.And after learning about it thru this site, currently doing a free online ESET scan, which the one other time I used it found junk that none of the other programs did.I saw an article stating that most problems involving keyloggers, trojans, scareware, etc., could be prevented by my running my computer as someone without Administrative privileges - that this would prevent most programs from being able to take control, even if I unknowingly clicked on a downloader for a trojan/keylogger.I am in the USA and interested in some non-USA sports, so use free streaming sites a lot which sometimes contain various types of malware.I try to be careful, but occasionally, as tonight, I have to do a System Restore when scareware gets a program into my computer.
