View 2 RepliesFor the past day windows wants to install the same 4 updates over and over, I have windows update set to download and let me choose when to install.
I can't understand why I even need them, as I uninstalled net framework. Notice how the update at 8:17 AM., KB2656368, is the same as one of the 4 updates installed at 7:47 PM. Windows wants to install the same four kb files again. How do I stop this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedUsing win 7 home edition 64 bit. Ran and installed updates yesterday. Now I have minutes long waits for any program or action. When I looked to reverse the update, "no updates are installed on this computer", is displayed in the installed updates window. Also, none of my restore points are seen. This is a first. I have tried reboots, and McAfee scan. What's next?
View 9 Replies View Relatedlast night I did the 13 required updates for my Windows 7. So, when I awoke this morning, in my attempt to load up into Windows 7 again, it failed, I tried again at least 6 time, and still nothing. It would get to "starting Windows" then go to a Grey screen.

I waited for about 30-40 mins but nothing changed so i turned it off from the button. Tried holding it down several times, and turning it back on and off but nothing changed. I can hear it loads windows and i have blindly managed to type my password and i've even heard skype load so it must be working properlu besides the dark monitor.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo I have a Dell XPS Studio 1645 laptop. It's been a solid all-purpose machine for the most part. I like to game on it when I can and it holds up pretty well, running Starcraft 2 on medium/high settings, Batman Arkham Asylum on medium/high, and League of Legends maxed outI get pretty picky when it comes to frames per second (FPS). If there's a slowdown (less than 35) I like to know why and usually take steps to remedy as soon as I can. A few months ago I realized that my FPS were starting to take a real hit. At the time it seemed to creep up on me, so I didn't really notice it at first. After it was pretty apparent there was an issue with all the programs/games I was running, I decided to do a system restore. This fixed the problem and I recognized it had originated with some recent Windows 7 updates that I had set to "auto-update." Since some time had passed, I wasn't sure of the exact update, so I just turned the updates off and resumed my activities as normal.
A few months later, I've had some problems with my email security. My provider mentioned that out-dated operating systems can be a source of this issue. So reluctantly, I've turned "auto-update" back on and have fully updated my Windows 7 operating system. But as before, the slowdowns are back. My FPS are at a crawl and even my internet browser seems to be slower.
My window 7 updates will not install after the computer reboots after saying it is installing i get updates failed. I talked to techguru guys online and they said that I had many corrupt files and wanted $119.00 to fix it one time or $299. for a two year contract. While they were remotely using my computer I could see the corrupted 32 bit files in the registry. I dont know if this was true or if it was the reason that the updates do not install. and they said the corrupted files are replicating and will crash my computer.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have windows 7 installed on a PC I built a little over a year ago. I recently upgraded to the windows 8 consumer preview, but I didn't like it so I'm trying to switch back. When I install windows it works fine, I can turn my computer off and on as many times as I want and it will be fine, but if I install any video card drivers or any of the updates that windows tells me to install, the next time it boots up I either get the windows splash screen or a black screen right after it says, "starting windows", and shows the 4 orb things that spin around and turn into the windows logo. It stays on this screen for 5-10 seconds and then continues to black or the splash screen. I have tried installing only my video card driver, I have tried installing only one of the recommended updates, but no matter what I install it doesn't work the next time it boots, so I don't think it's a problem with one specific driver. However I have selected only the ones that started with: important windows update, or something like that, none of the security updates or anything and those installed successfully. I have reset my bios and changed every setting I can think of, but nothing works. I have also completely formatted and re-patitioned my hard drive. I have basically reset my computer as much as possible without building a new one. What else can I do? I need to install my video card driver at the very least or I can't play games, which is the whole reason I built a PC

View 4 Replies View RelatedWindows was installing some updates while shutting down my PC yesterday. The electricity supply got cut off for a second or two and my PC shut down during the updates installation abruptly. Booted my PC after that today morning and my computer wouldn't get past the black screen with the Windows logo on it. Can someone guide me as to how to repair the installation? I was running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit SP1. I have the installation of Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. I dont want to do a clean install. Just repair the Win 7 files. Startup repair couldn't fix it. And there is NO system restore point available!
View 19 Replies View Relatedbuild a new computer and now that I've got it up and running, I'm trying to go through the long line of the windows updates. At some points, the computer will just freeze up and crash, or randomly shut off, during these updates. Not all of them, but some of them. A lot of the time it will occur while I'm doing something else, so I've tried to update some of them and not use the computer at all while it's doing them, but I've still encountered some crashes this way.I can't remember all of the updates it has crashed on, as it has crashed around 5-6 times give or take, but the latest ones it crashed on were the general/security updates for microsoft .net framework 4[CODE]

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy computer was working fine until I downloaded the windows service pack 1. First it was every now & then but soon my computer was freezing up ( not responding ) and it was impossible to even complete a document. This happens in all applications. I noticed with each new window update the worse my computer got. Still under warranty I spent hours on the phone with DELL twice, finally I did a fresh re-install of windows 7 professional. After the fresh install everything was fine. UNTIL I downloaded the windows updates, it started to 'not respond' again. I uninstalled the updates. The not responding issue is gone but I am concerned about windows security updates. Do I need them? I have contacted windows about this issue many times over the past several months with no response.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI Can't seem to figure out what went wrong. I think it needs a Device driver update of some sort. I am running Windows 7 64 bit off of an original MS DVD that was installed only about a month ago. I built this system a little over a year ago. I have since pulled some memory sticks (sent for RMA) as they gave me random BSOD because of memory errors. When I try to install updates it gives me a BSOD. I have tried to do a system restore but it says it is unable to complete. Any Ideas? See attachment for dump files.
View 8 Replies View RelatedJust finished installing Win 7 64 bit on my Dell Inspiron 1545. It appeared the update was going along smoothly until it came time to reboot. After rebooting, the laptop showed that it was configuring Windows. Once the configuration was completed the system went into Startup Repair. Once completed and checking the Repair Details it shows a message indicating that ci.dll is corrupt. I was able to restore the computer to original state, but once I downloaded the 80 or so win 7 updates, I get the same problem.

View 3 Replies View RelatedFor a while now I have been experiencing a strange problem. My laptop keeps changing the Windows Updates without my consent. I know this has been raised in the past but my problem is slightly different.I prefer to choose "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download or install them", however periodically the settings change without my consent to "Never check for updates".This is very frustrating as I am constantly having to keep an eye on this, and change the settings back to what they were in order to receive critical updates, or indeed any other update. The laptop was bought new just under 12 months ago and came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit pre-installed.Has anyone else experienced this, or can anyone advise on a fix?

Each computer upon reboot dsiplays an error message saying the "updates failed". rinse - repeat. This started with one computer about a month ago, I now have 4 that are doing it. I have scanned with Combofix, Superantispyware, Rkill, Symamtec's Endpoint, eSet on-line, Panda on-line, Malwarebytes, JRT, ADWcleaner, CCleaner, FSS, awsMBR, and tried the MS FIXIT.
I also tried this procedure:
1) Disabled Windows update Service
2) Deleted all files in c:\windows\softwaredistribution\datastore and deleted files in c:\windows\softwaredistribution\download
4) 3) Downloaded and installed the most up to date Windows Update Agent.
5) Restarted Windows Update Agent, made sure Workstation and Background Intelligent Transfer Services were running.
6) Ran the MS Mr. Fixit program to repair update issues.
7) Ran the Windows update. 21 updates to install (as always).
8) Rebooted
9) Guess what, same issue!
I tried this on ALL 4 COMPUTERS I have with this SAME issue, 2 of which are on the same domain, the other two are laptops. ALL 4 FAILED. All four (4) again show the need to receive 21 updates. All 4 were again ran through the update process, all four (4) again failed post re-boot to take the updates (message stated up-dates failed post re-boot)
I did search out this problem...very old posts recommended I start a new thread. For the last 2 weeks every time I shut down automatic install...installs the same 8 updates.
