Windows 7 Updates Slow Down Computer?

Apr 30, 2011

So I have a Dell XPS Studio 1645 laptop. It's been a solid all-purpose machine for the most part. I like to game on it when I can and it holds up pretty well, running Starcraft 2 on medium/high settings, Batman Arkham Asylum on medium/high, and League of Legends maxed outI get pretty picky when it comes to frames per second (FPS). If there's a slowdown (less than 35) I like to know why and usually take steps to remedy as soon as I can. A few months ago I realized that my FPS were starting to take a real hit. At the time it seemed to creep up on me, so I didn't really notice it at first. After it was pretty apparent there was an issue with all the programs/games I was running, I decided to do a system restore. This fixed the problem and I recognized it had originated with some recent Windows 7 updates that I had set to "auto-update." Since some time had passed, I wasn't sure of the exact update, so I just turned the updates off and resumed my activities as normal.

A few months later, I've had some problems with my email security. My provider mentioned that out-dated operating systems can be a source of this issue. So reluctantly, I've turned "auto-update" back on and have fully updated my Windows 7 operating system. But as before, the slowdowns are back. My FPS are at a crawl and even my internet browser seems to be slower.

Computer Is Slow To Respond BSOD Upon Trying To Install Updates?

Jun 8, 2012

I Can't seem to figure out what went wrong. I think it needs a Device driver update of some sort. I am running Windows 7 64 bit off of an original MS DVD that was installed only about a month ago. I built this system a little over a year ago. I have since pulled some memory sticks (sent for RMA) as they gave me random BSOD because of memory errors. When I try to install updates it gives me a BSOD. I have tried to do a system restore but it says it is unable to complete. Any Ideas? See attachment for dump files.

Power-point Very Slow Screen Updates?

Oct 27, 2009

I've installed my copy of Office XP (which works perfectly well for my purposes and I don't need any new features of later versions!), and Powerpoint 2002 runs very slowly re-drawing the screen. After selecting a "Slide design" from the view menu, it takes a two or three seconds to redraw the background if I switch between slides, type some text in a text box over the background, resize the window etc. (No delays when switching slides during a slide show though.)It works very fast on my old laptop running XP. My Windows 7 desktop computer is a Core Duo E7400 with a GTX260 graphics card (latest drivers installed) so should be about 10x faster than the laptop!

Windows 7 Updates Will Not Install After Computer Reboots

Jan 13, 2013

My window 7 updates will not install after the computer reboots after saying it is installing i get updates failed. I talked to techguru guys online and they said that I had many corrupt files and wanted $119.00 to fix it one time or $299. for a two year contract. While they were remotely using my computer I could see the corrupted 32 bit files in the registry. I dont know if this was true or if it was the reason that the updates do not install. and they said the corrupted files are replicating and will crash my computer.

Just-built Computer Crashes On Windows 7 Updates?

Oct 1, 2012

build a new computer and now that I've got it up and running, I'm trying to go through the long line of the windows updates. At some points, the computer will just freeze up and crash, or randomly shut off, during these updates. Not all of them, but some of them. A lot of the time it will occur while I'm doing something else, so I've tried to update some of them and not use the computer at all while it's doing them, but I've still encountered some crashes this way.I can't remember all of the updates it has crashed on, as it has crashed around 5-6 times give or take, but the latest ones it crashed on were the general/security updates for microsoft .net framework 4[CODE]

Computer Freezing / Not Responding In Windows 7 After Installing Updates

Apr 27, 2012

My computer was working fine until I downloaded the windows service pack 1. First it was every now & then but soon my computer was freezing up ( not responding ) and it was impossible to even complete a document. This happens in all applications. I noticed with each new window update the worse my computer got. Still under warranty I spent hours on the phone with DELL twice, finally I did a fresh re-install of windows 7 professional. After the fresh install everything was fine. UNTIL I downloaded the windows updates, it started to 'not respond' again. I uninstalled the updates. The not responding issue is gone but I am concerned about windows security updates. Do I need them? I have contacted windows about this issue many times over the past several months with no response.

Just finished installing Win 7 64 bit on my Dell Inspiron 1545. It appeared the update was going along smoothly until it came time to reboot. After rebooting, the laptop showed that it was configuring Windows. Once the configuration was completed the system went into Startup Repair. Once completed and checking the Repair Details it shows a message indicating that ci.dll is corrupt. I was able to restore the computer to original state, but once I downloaded the 80 or so win 7 updates, I get the same problem.

Computer Runs Very Slow / Computer Freezes Randomly

Mar 25, 2012

Computer runs very slow. Computer freezes randomly. Does not want to boot past windows startup except for in safe mode(SOMETIMES). IF IT BOOTS takes and an incredibly long time to get to the desktop (20-45min). Does not want to run programs. Runs EXTREMELY slowly (makes a windows 95 pc look like a speed demon.) Random restarts, restart loops, and shutdowns. Sometimes after turning on it will immediately shut off then turn back on. Keeps recommending windows repair on startup. Wants to run chkdsk, then freezes on it.Malware detection programs. Hardware diagnostic programs. registry tools. disk defrags. Driver updates. Windows updates. BIOS update. System restore. Windows repair tool. Repair installation (twice). WINDOWS 7 CLEAN INSTALLATION (twice).Exactly the same as the first day it started happening. So not only did I lose all programs and files, but my pc still runs like crap. Also, this is a higher end pc under a year old. [code]

Windows 7 Computer Extremely Slow?

Feb 3, 2013

Starting a couple weeks ago, my computer started bogging down most of the time. When this happens, the CPU usage is almost always at 100% according to the CPU monitor in the Task Manager. Sometimes it gets to the point where I can't even type a web address because I can only type one character every 3 or 4 seconds.I have tried scanning for malware with Spybot. It found a few things but nothing that wasn't coded "green". I changed my antivirus software from MSE to Avast. No real difference. I even tried installing Linux (using the Windows install program), hoping that would at least give me faster Internet access. But that got bogged down pretty much the same as Windows does, so I'm assuming it's a hardware issue of some kind.I have Windows 7 with SP1, 500GB hard drive, 2GB RAM.It's a home built computer so there's no brand or model number. I have an ECS 945P-A motherboard with a Celeron 3.3GHz CPU.

But during the past few months I have downloaded a bunch of crap wear such as different toolbars, firefox add-ons, miscellaneous programs etc and my system speed is VERY slow now. Programs open slowly, I get errors that I did not used to get etc. What should I do? Someone suggested "Wiping" my system, but I have no idea how to do that and/or if it is necessary. I have run a couple of registry cleaners and also uninstalled several of the programs I downloaded.

Computer Crashes After Installing Drivers Or Updates?

May 10, 2012

I have windows 7 installed on a PC I built a little over a year ago. I recently upgraded to the windows 8 consumer preview, but I didn't like it so I'm trying to switch back. When I install windows it works fine, I can turn my computer off and on as many times as I want and it will be fine, but if I install any video card drivers or any of the updates that windows tells me to install, the next time it boots up I either get the windows splash screen or a black screen right after it says, "starting windows", and shows the 4 orb things that spin around and turn into the windows logo. It stays on this screen for 5-10 seconds and then continues to black or the splash screen. I have tried installing only my video card driver, I have tried installing only one of the recommended updates, but no matter what I install it doesn't work the next time it boots, so I don't think it's a problem with one specific driver. However I have selected only the ones that started with: important windows update, or something like that, none of the security updates or anything and those installed successfully. I have reset my bios and changed every setting I can think of, but nothing works. I have also completely formatted and re-patitioned my hard drive. I have basically reset my computer as much as possible without building a new one. What else can I do? I need to install my video card driver at the very least or I can't play games, which is the whole reason I built a PC
