Very Slow Windows 7 Intel I5 Computer
May 29, 2011
I bought a Samsung QX410-J01 in November. When I first bought it is was great. It ran really fast and smooth and had no problems at all. But during the past few months I have downloaded a bunch of crap wear such as different toolbars, firefox add-ons, miscellaneous programs etc and my system speed is VERY slow now. Programs open slowly, I get errors that I did not used to get etc. What should I do? Someone suggested "Wiping" my system, but I have no idea how to do that and/or if it is necessary. I have run a couple of registry cleaners and also uninstalled several of the programs I downloaded.

new to the site but long time MCSE etc blah blah...
I'm running a HP nx8430 laptop. 3GB Ram Ati display etc.
I recently installed an INTEL X25-M SATA SOLID STATE drive and installed Windows 7 RC on it.
Now I've been running the Beta's and various builds since last november and it's been fine. Boot times have been great and performance amazing.
Since installing this SSD though my laptop now takes about 5 minutes to move on from the boot logo!!! 5 minutes no joke! The hard drive light goes solid for this entire time and the logo throbs like it does. And then finally it displays CTRL ALT DEL...
I have tried all sorts from the BIOS drive settings to MSCONFIG settings etc. Nothing changes it.
It's the same coming out of hibernate too. 5 minutes + before the mouse or KB start to respond to input.
All other forums posts I've read all say it boots in about 40 seconds with an SSD. I'm on the verge of going back to my SATA disk as this is almost unusable on a daily basis.
Once into the OS it flies! Apps open instantly and everything runs SOOOO well it's just this boot time that's killing me.
Any ideas please?

I tried to play Wolfire Games - Lugaru (i have bought the game but the demo is good test) on my laptop with Intel gma 965, or the X3100 if you prefer, and it is unplayable.
Using the included 965 driver with windows 7 RC and Beta both, and even updating to the newest version currently available on windows update, the game is unplayable. The mouse cursor lags, heavily, just in the menu screen. It froze the system overall when I tried to load a level.
I can play the game just fine on Linux with this laptop. And, after trying the older Vista drivers instead of the windows 7 drivers, it ran just perfectly. The vista drivers DID give me a BSoD afterwards though when I shut down. I didn't install them in vista compat mode.
I had the exact same problem with GeForce drivers on a desktop with the same game(and another game called Secondhand Lands). The included windows 7 video drivers overall seem severely crippled.

Computer runs very slow. Computer freezes randomly. Does not want to boot past windows startup except for in safe mode(SOMETIMES). IF IT BOOTS takes and an incredibly long time to get to the desktop (20-45min). Does not want to run programs. Runs EXTREMELY slowly (makes a windows 95 pc look like a speed demon.) Random restarts, restart loops, and shutdowns. Sometimes after turning on it will immediately shut off then turn back on. Keeps recommending windows repair on startup. Wants to run chkdsk, then freezes on it.Malware detection programs. Hardware diagnostic programs. registry tools. disk defrags. Driver updates. Windows updates. BIOS update. System restore. Windows repair tool. Repair installation (twice). WINDOWS 7 CLEAN INSTALLATION (twice).Exactly the same as the first day it started happening. So not only did I lose all programs and files, but my pc still runs like crap. Also, this is a higher end pc under a year old. [code]

Starting a couple weeks ago, my computer started bogging down most of the time. When this happens, the CPU usage is almost always at 100% according to the CPU monitor in the Task Manager. Sometimes it gets to the point where I can't even type a web address because I can only type one character every 3 or 4 seconds.I have tried scanning for malware with Spybot. It found a few things but nothing that wasn't coded "green". I changed my antivirus software from MSE to Avast. No real difference. I even tried installing Linux (using the Windows install program), hoping that would at least give me faster Internet access. But that got bogged down pretty much the same as Windows does, so I'm assuming it's a hardware issue of some kind.I have Windows 7 with SP1, 500GB hard drive, 2GB RAM.It's a home built computer so there's no brand or model number. I have an ECS 945P-A motherboard with a Celeron 3.3GHz CPU.

So I have a Dell XPS Studio 1645 laptop. It's been a solid all-purpose machine for the most part. I like to game on it when I can and it holds up pretty well, running Starcraft 2 on medium/high settings, Batman Arkham Asylum on medium/high, and League of Legends maxed outI get pretty picky when it comes to frames per second (FPS). If there's a slowdown (less than 35) I like to know why and usually take steps to remedy as soon as I can. A few months ago I realized that my FPS were starting to take a real hit. At the time it seemed to creep up on me, so I didn't really notice it at first. After it was pretty apparent there was an issue with all the programs/games I was running, I decided to do a system restore. This fixed the problem and I recognized it had originated with some recent Windows 7 updates that I had set to "auto-update." Since some time had passed, I wasn't sure of the exact update, so I just turned the updates off and resumed my activities as normal.
A few months later, I've had some problems with my email security. My provider mentioned that out-dated operating systems can be a source of this issue. So reluctantly, I've turned "auto-update" back on and have fully updated my Windows 7 operating system. But as before, the slowdowns are back. My FPS are at a crawl and even my internet browser seems to be slower.

My brother just purchased a new computer. I recommended all the components, and assembled it all. I installed Windows 7 64 bit professional, all the drivers, performed all the updates, and started to install stuff, mainly Kaspersky 2010 and Office 2007 Enterprise. Everything is up to date, yet the computer is booting slowly now, Kaspersky won't load and there is no internet, when the connection is well made and all. Basically, the computer freezes when it reaches the desktop. [code]

Computer has been running really slow lately. I did all the maintenance I knew how to do and removed programs they weren't using. It's better, but still slow. Their computer originally came with Windows Vista and I upgraded it to Windows 7 a year ago.

I got some bad malware and removed it with a complete re-install of windows 7. I deleted all partitions and re-installed Windows 7 from that point. I went to the Gateway website and got all of the drivers for the equipment on the computer and it still runs painfully slow. I've run CCcleaner several times, done DSKCHK (because I suspected my hard drive might be faulty) and everything says I have no problems.

I added a second machine to my home network, and want to share files back and forth between machine A and machine B. Both are Windows 7 x64 ultimate. I have a shortcut on B's desktop to a folder located on A called "sharedfolder". When using system B and I click in Asharedfolder, I can then click on a pdf, or an avi, or txt, or whatever, and it loads just as quickly as if the file were on B's hard drive. But if I click on an exe file, it take about 15-20 seconds to load. No prompt, no nothing, it just takes that long. It happens with or without no antivirus running.

First off my power supply went out. It was a 450watt one I ordered and replaced it with a 750watt power supply. After I replaced the power supply, my computer would not boot, When the power supply went out it was in the middle of updating windows. So I formatted the hard drive and did a clean install of windows, reloaded all my drivers and extra programs. At that point my computer was running great.
I decided to uninstall Bing tool bar, and windows live sign in assistant. it prompted my to reboot. When I rebooted the computer, after about 30 minutes it still had not come up to the desktop, I could boot up in safe mode and it would run fine. I did a system restore, no change, I did a start up repair, no change, Tested the memory it came back fine.
At that point and reformatted the hard drive again, I had another hard drive formatted it and put the install CD in and after 8 hours it is still trying to install Windows 7, No errors just really really slow. So I have replaced the power supply, hard drive, and ran a memory test with no errors, done a clean install of windows. Running Windows 7 64 bit, 4 gig of Ram, 2.8 dual core processor, 1 gig video card, 500 gig hard drive.

I put out a post a day or two ago about my 64 bit Windows 7 on my Intel E6550 was slow. After the response I got from you guys I am going to stay with the 64 bit no matter what. So I figure I can go out and just build another computer and reload Windows 7 (64 bit from scratch) or find a program which I though you guys could help me with. There are dozens of programs out there that say it will make your computer faster, fix your registry, Hard Drive problems and so on.
I had one of these programs about 15 years ago but I quit using them as I got better with computers but I feel I could use one now because I generally don't trust them but if it screws up my computer, so what, I have backups and I have other computers and I really don't care or mind if I have to format and re-load, it might give me something to do in my old age. So my question is can you recommend anything?

So I bought a new Hitachi Deskstar 2 SATA-600 2 TB (3,5'') harddrive yesterday. (I had a WD 320 GB harddrive before changing to the 2TB.)And now, my computer takes maybe 4-5 minutes to show the boot screen (the screen that first appears when you boot your computer, often a green, blue or black one). And while the computer boots up, I can hear this ticking noise from the fans. Demonstration (the best I can):and so on. But when it finally boots (when the boot screen comes up) the fan-noise stops, and goes back to the "normal" noise. But my computer is working fine otherways. My computer is not slow other than the startup, and every program or game is working perfectly fine.I think maybe it have something to do with the size of the harddrive? Could there be problems changing from a 320GB to 2TB? [code]

my computer has been extremely slow. I tried uninstalling programs, rebooting, updating, shutting down processes and basically a lot of stuff. I think thee first time it started being slow was after a windows error recovery. Since then I have had about 3 more error recoveries, and from what I can remember it showed a black screen stating that "the system has been shut down to prevent damage" or something like that. Another thing I can remember was it saying something like "pool error".I'm usually patient with my computer and just wait for it to load, even though the computer shouldn't take this long to do anything considering that it's a pretty good computer and still not very old. But now I can't take it anymore! It's unbelievably slow and I am VERY lucky just to be able to use the internet and type this post right now.I originally thought there was a problem with my browser (Google Chrome) so I tried using rockmelt instead because I liked the chrome interface. Rockmelt actually worked better than Chrome for a while but then started being almost as slow, plus, changing browsers isn't gonna fix all the programs, they were just as slow too.

I am having trouble with my computer which is still farely new (got it at christmas time),. The computer was built by Cyberpower has Intel Core i5 CPU 650@3.20GHz 3.19GHz, 4.0 GB RAM, 64 bit operatings system in it. I have recently been having trouble where I click to go from one page to another whil on internet, and it seems to freeze up and take a minute or so to catch up. I have 94% free memory so it does not seem it should be freezing or running slow as it is. I run Norton security on it and if anything it only ever comes up with tracking cookies.
When I go into Hijack this and click on run scan and safe results I have a box that comes up saying For some reason your system denied write access to the Hosts file.If any hijacked domains are in this file, Hijack This may not be able to fix this.If that happens, you need to edit the file yourself. To do this, click Start, blah, blah, blah....I did that but the notepad came up saying This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. There is also an example of a hosts file but then it says localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.1. How to I go to DNS and what do I do there to make the program workroperly.. I want to upload the data from my scan and have someone tell me if there are any files I need to remove because I do not know enough about this program to do it on my own

My problem is that my computer is very slow on startup and in general even though very little resources are being used. In the task manager the CPU usage rarely exceeds 10%. I have disabled all unessential startup programs and services and have defragged my HDD. There's a very little possibility of malware as i run Avast! which is fully updated.
Specs:
MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
Intel Pentium T4500 @ 2.30GHz(49 C Average)(>10%)

My computer has been running very slowly lately after I restart it. On average after I restart, it takes noticeably longer to launch and run programs. If I leave it sitting on my desk running, somewhere between 12-36 hours after I restarted, it will run just fine. I defrag my drive regularly, and also run virus scans regularly with Malwarebytes and a few other tools. This has been a problem for a while and I've tried a lot of things to fix it with no luck, including registry defraggers / optimizers, cleaning temp files, CleanMem, and several other tools. I'd love some ideas for things to try.
