Computer Seems To Be Getting Slower Over Time - Sound Stutters
Jan 17, 2013
I have a samsung npqx411w01 with i5 and 6gb, It also has NvidiaGeforce graphics with 1gb dedicated as I enjoy playing BF3. I have had this computer for about 6 months now, and its been great, but over time, despite antivirus/malware/disk cleanups. It just seems to be getting slower. I am at the point now where the audio sounds cracky, and even stutters, I cant play any games since there is a significant lag, as well as with streaming of any kind and Although I thought it may only be with the wifi, it is still limited with an Ethernet cable(the internet may be a separate problem). There was an incident nearly a month ago in which my system completely shut out. I couldn't open windows without safe mode or else I would get a windows error a few seconds after logging in. I was able to restore, but I feel things haven't been the same.

I've installed Win 7 Ultimate x86. The problem I'm facing is that whenever I enable my sound card driver and try playing an audio, the audio stutters and the computer freezes. I have to restart, use safe mode to disable the sound card and then use my pc. I've looked all over the net for solutions and these are what I have done so far...
- Downloaded and installed codecs for High Definition Audio Device
- Downloaded and installed Windows 7 x86 compatible driver for my sound card (Creative SB Audigy Value).
- Disabled all audio enhancements
- Changed playback sound to come through speakers (this one automatically happens if I re-enable the sound card).
The problem still persists.

I have a spare pc with Windows 7 64bit professional (no SP1) on a ssd which I bought a year ago. Back then, it booted within 20sec or so. I noticed a slower boot time after the SP1 patch. So I assumed the patch slows the PC and so I went on with my life.
Now that I bought a new PC with a Windows 7 SP1 64bit professional DVD, I expected to have a slower boot time since SP1 was already added on the DVD. But to my surprise, it booted just as fast, around 17 sec on a fresh install. I rebooted and got the same 17 sec. Next, I updated the recommended patches. I did not install anything else that was optional, any MB drivers, GPU drivers, etc. Just plain recommended windows updates. Boot time went from 17 to 46 seconds. How can that be? If patches slow PCs, then the new DVD should have done so from the beginning.

About 2 weeks ago, I built a new computer from scratch and gave it some pretty awesome specs, especially for my budget ($1,000). Some basic specs are:
i5-3750k CPU
MSI GTX 660 O/C GPU
8GB of RAM
a 1TB 7200 RPM 6.0GB/s HDD
a 64 GB Samsung SSD
When I first started the computer, I was able to get from boot screen (the little MSI logo for my mainboard), to the Windows 7 login screen in a few seconds. I'm not sure exactly how long, but the little windows logo that appears when Windows loads didn't even finish appearing. The 4 parts of the windows met in the middle and then it was done. However, now, after 2 weeks of installing stuff, the boot time has gone up. Slightly. It went from about 8 seconds to 10-12 seconds (estimates!). To be honest, however, the boot time was pretty much the same until yesterday, and it was different this morning. The only thing that was changed was that I installed Google Drive. Also, just so you know, my SSD is pretty much exclusively a boot disk. All of my program files and user documents are stored on my HDD, allowing my SSD to be the "windows" disk. Like I said, my boot time has always been pretty fast, and I certainly am not complaining about it now - however, I've noticed and change, and don't want it to continually get worse, so I want to try to prevent it from happening in the future. By the way, I have taken multiple maintenance measures. Yesterday I ran a full virus scan on both disks, a defragment on the HDD (I know not to run one on the SSD), as well as run CCleaner to ensure that my startup isn't too long (It went up by 1 program : Google Drive).

Long story short, I have shares on three PCs that are not always on. If I make a shortcut to the share and put it on my desktop, sometimes for some reason, the shortcut vanishes. I believe this is because I haven't connected the PC to the network in a while.
So, I went about and mapped those shares to drive letters. All is well, however, it adds another 45 seconds to my boot time.
Pretty sure this is because windows is trying to reconnect to them on boot, but they are disconnected. Is there any way to keep my drive mappings, but not have windows attempt to reconnect on boot?
I know that you will lose your mappings if you do not check "reconnect on login".. so, is there a way to keep the mappings without attempting to reconnect at login?

I literally just built this today and was able to enjoy a very fast boot up speed with wim7 64-bit installed on my ssd drive but the power cable of course found a way to get unplugged from the wall and now the it takes an extra 20-30 seconds in order t boot up (at the "windows starting" ) screen. Right after I turned it back on the computer wanted to go into system repair and then it reset the pc to the back up that I had just set,
Is there anything I can do in order to get it too boot up like it was at first?

recently my computer started having this issue where it stutters. as in ever few seconds, the screen freezes and my mouse jumps. sound and video also have the stutter as well. this stutter is ongoing no matter how many or few programs i have open, even while sitting on just desktop.
what i'm working off of:
i7-2700k
8gigs of ram
amd 6800 x 2
samsung 1T 7200rpm
corsair 650W
all my cores are <40C, but i do notice that difference cores will randomly just to 100%. I opened up tasks manager and put update speed to fast. I and can see that my overall cpu jumps to 100% for a fraction of a second, yet indivual cores are jumping all over the place from 0 to 100 and back. i have defragged the disk and done a full virus and malware sweep with no results.

Recently I installed windows 7 sp1 to my computer. I used to have vista installed. I realized that my computer got slower after installing windows 7. I did use windows 7 before on the same computer. The windows experience index score of my processor was 7.0 and my ram was 7.2 the previous time I installed windows 7. Now they are 4.4 and 5.6 while hard disk and graphic scores stayed the same. I also realized that I can't select 4 processors on boot options. ( I have an amd phenom 9750 quad-core 2.4 ghz processor. and 8 gb of ram

A buddy of mine insists that disabling Aero (Desktop Window Management / DWM.EXE) will slow your system down (lets assume it has a mid level graphic card). His logic is that Aero offloads some of the work to your GPU. Disabling it will increase CPU usage. My logic is that DWM.EXE uses a "significant" amount of CPU, regardless of what the GPU is doing. DWM.EXE on most systems I've seen is usually at the top of the list when I go to task manager and sort by "CPU TIME". It uses more CPU time then my browser, more then explorer, etc etc.So how can disabling it increase CPU usage? Where is this change reflected (which process shows increase CPU usage if you disable DWM)? How would you prove or disprove this?

i used to have vista on this computer and didn't have audio problems. i've upgraded to windows 7 and use the latest drivers available for my sound card (striker 7.1). i have also tried not using these drivers and instead using a usb sound card (sennheiser that comes with one of their headsets).
my problem is that, some time after booting up my computer, the audio starts skipping/glitching every ~30 seconds (if not more). this will usually happen with almost 100% frequency after the computer goes into sleep mode. a reboot fixes this for some time and then it starts over. this happens with all audio sources (moves in vlc, music in itunes, Internet, etc.)

currently i own a dell studio xps, running ms windows 7 home premium 64-bit sp1.i have the following playback devices, as listed by windows:the problem is that the sound only works with one application at a time, meaning, if i open itunes first, and then skype, only the sound on itunes will work. if i close both, then open skype first, and itunes second, then only the sound from skype can be heard. this has happened with every program so far, such as google chrome (watching a video on Internet), video games, and vlc media player. i've had this problem for as long as i can remember, as this computer is fairly new.i'm willing to divulge any more information required.

i'm running my sound through a line 6 kb37 interface and out through some studio monitors. however yesterday after having spotify on from 30 - 60mins the sound stopped, spotify crashed, i tried to restart and explorer.exe couldn't shutdown because it was stuck trying to play the logoff sound. i force restarted it and it turned into a bsod. today the same thing has happened after about 30mins of watching a film. the sound stopped and media player crashed. i tried to watch a Internet video after this and it wouldn't buffer it and crashed my browser. i checked my device manager and it said all my sound devices were working properly

I have Windows 7 64 bit, Realtek onboard sound.
I have USB speakers and today bought a USB headset. I can't seem to get them to both to work at the same time when plugged in. I usually like to keep the headphones around my neck while using the mic, but listen to my nice Bose speakers. When it gets to be late at night, just put the headphones on and turn off the speakers. Either way, the mic needs to work at both times.
They are both plugged into USB slots in the back of the computer.

I have a very new system in terms of hardware (6950 graphics, Core i5 processor, 8GB DDR3 RAM, etc), yet I get consistent stuttering in games. By stutter, I mean a 3-5 second freeze, that happens every few minutes. These only started up about 2 months ago (have had the computer for about 8 months).
The odd thing though, is that when I leave the computer on for a long time, and have run a number of programs/games already, the stuttering disappears. It only really shows up after I freshly restart the computer. When I put the computer to sleep (even for many many hours) instead of shutting it down, I don't have the stuttering when I bring it back awake, like I would if I had shut it down/ started it up.

I have a xFI sound-card and every time I start my PC I have to reinstall the card's drivers. I have 2 pci slots on my board and an ATI pci express Radion. When I put the card in the other slot right next to the graphics card it works no problem what so ever accept it is blocking the graphics card fan and the GPU heat doubles so this is not acceptable.I have tried a audigy sound card in the slot and it works OK.

I have a HT Omega Claro sound card that I've been having problems with. One issue that I have is after I uninstall the driver and try to reinstall it. It takes several attempts to install successfully.
Does this mean that the sound card is fualty? I'm not sure exactly how a driver works but i'm thinking it would try to comunicate with the hardware it's intended for and if there is a problem with the hardware that might cause the driver to have a dificult time installing.
