Computer Starting Up A Tiny Bit Slower Then Usual?
Jan 17, 2013
my computer lately has been starting up a bit slower then usual i don't really know what/if theres anything wrong with it or if im just crazy/paranoid I reformat it once a month to make sure its always got that fresh install performance we all know and love. theres been no BSOD'S/random popups/errors/or any other strange activity so i kind of doubt its malware related but im not ruling anything out. whatever you guys could recommend i do to ensure its not malware

Recently I installed windows 7 sp1 to my computer. I used to have vista installed. I realized that my computer got slower after installing windows 7. I did use windows 7 before on the same computer. The windows experience index score of my processor was 7.0 and my ram was 7.2 the previous time I installed windows 7. Now they are 4.4 and 5.6 while hard disk and graphic scores stayed the same. I also realized that I can't select 4 processors on boot options. ( I have an amd phenom 9750 quad-core 2.4 ghz processor. and 8 gb of ram

I have a samsung npqx411w01 with i5 and 6gb, It also has NvidiaGeforce graphics with 1gb dedicated as I enjoy playing BF3. I have had this computer for about 6 months now, and its been great, but over time, despite antivirus/malware/disk cleanups. It just seems to be getting slower. I am at the point now where the audio sounds cracky, and even stutters, I cant play any games since there is a significant lag, as well as with streaming of any kind and Although I thought it may only be with the wifi, it is still limited with an Ethernet cable(the internet may be a separate problem). There was an incident nearly a month ago in which my system completely shut out. I couldn't open windows without safe mode or else I would get a windows error a few seconds after logging in. I was able to restore, but I feel things haven't been the same.

A buddy of mine insists that disabling Aero (Desktop Window Management / DWM.EXE) will slow your system down (lets assume it has a mid level graphic card). His logic is that Aero offloads some of the work to your GPU. Disabling it will increase CPU usage. My logic is that DWM.EXE uses a "significant" amount of CPU, regardless of what the GPU is doing. DWM.EXE on most systems I've seen is usually at the top of the list when I go to task manager and sort by "CPU TIME". It uses more CPU time then my browser, more then explorer, etc etc.So how can disabling it increase CPU usage? Where is this change reflected (which process shows increase CPU usage if you disable DWM)? How would you prove or disprove this?

I am a flash developer and I use swfojbect 2.0 to embed my flash pages in html. The websites all look very tiny on the screen when viewed with IE9 - it gets fixed when I press 'compatibility view' - but I don't want users to have to do that to see my websites correctly.

this is one of those things that makes me pine for XPP.I do not know what folder or group to post this in so if the Mod knows and can move there, so be it.My Ultimate x64 rig - clean and fast for the most part: All I needed to do was cut a very small 153kb *.htm file and paste it to a different folder. should have been instantaneous, right? Wrong! The system looked for all the world like it was going to hang Explorer!the dialogue box that normally you would see on mass moves of many large files pops up, and hangs on calculating......" interminably while I sat there just stunned.there was NOTHING running on the system - not even a browser. Finally after about 2 full minutes, it did the job what on earth causes this?? How would i go about diagnosing?

I've been experiencing this strange thing happening with my windows 7 startup. When it loads my desktop, there is a tiny window in the top-lefthand part of my screen. And when I open task manager it's named window1, I can close it and my computer still runs fineBut I'm just curious if anybody else has encountered this problem or knows how to stop it from opening every time I boot

On a Windows 7 ultimate system (svc pack 1), when I try to open any file in the my documents folder I get an error message that says that this operation "needs elevation".So I picked one particular file that I couldn't open and I looked at the owner in the security tab. Indeed the owner was not set to me. It was set to "Administrator". Although I'm logged in as an administrator, my login has my name in it, so this was not me.By the way, I tried copying the file to another drive. Windows allows that, but again I can't open it. Then I deleted this copy, which windows did without complaint. I'm dumbfounded. Windows thinks it's perfectly acceptable for me to have rights to delete a file that I have no right to even look at.

Is it usual for that process to take up 500-600K or memory? I don't recall seeing it take up that much space before. Just curiosity because if i run some program that requires lots of memory, it starts to lagg.

I'm building a computer myself and I can't for the life of me get windows 7 to install. Here is my configuration and what I've tried..
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard Rev 2.0, BIOS version FA
Processor: Intel Core i7 930 2.80GHz 8MB LGA 1366 L3 Quad Core Desktop Processor - BX80601930
Memory: Corsair XMS3 6GB DDR3 SDRAM Memory Module - 6GB (3 x 2GB) - 1600MHz DDR3-1600/PC3-12800 - DDR3 SDRAM 9-9-9-24 version 2.3a
Optical Drive: ASUS Black 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 24X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 24X DVD Burner - Bulk - OEM
Power Supply: OCZ Technology GameXStream 850W ATX12V & EPS12V Power Supply
ard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Blue WD5000AAKS 500 GB - Hard Drive Bulk
Graphics Card: GALAXY 70XKH3HS8GUX GeForce GTX 470 Graphics Card - PCI Express 2.0 x16 - 1.25 GB GDDR5 SDRAM
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 1-Pack for System Builders OEM
Case: Cooler Master HAF 922 RC-922M-KKN1-GP Chassis - Mid-tower - 10 Bays Black
What I first did to install: I change the bios to boot from the Optical Drive Put the Windows 7 CD into the optical drive.Follow the on screen instructions for the windows install. Windows copies the files, extracts and installs. The system reboots. When Windows attempts to start for the first time the windows logo comes up and does its animation. The system then reboots. The screen comes up that tells me windows didnt start properly and do I want to try safe mode, etc etc. If I do safe mode drivers scroll until it gets to disk.sys. At this point it freezes for a minute or two and reboots.
Things Ive tried:
I have pared down to 1 stick of 2 GB of the ram
Ive tried using both of the other sticks of ram (individually) in case I had a bad stick
Ive tried with an older ATI PCI video card in case it was a video card compatibility issue
Ive tried reformatting and deleting the system partition and reinstalling
Ive tried reformatting from another working computer and reinstalling
Ive tried many windows repairs, often it says it cant fix it, or tries something and restarts.
Once it was repairing disk errors and it did that in about a minute. Didnt work. Othertimes it gives me a failure during setup, tries to fix it, didnt work.Ive reset the bios to optimized Ive tried manually changing the multiplier of the ram in the bios. fter about 25 -30 reboots bios resets and repairs it finally looked like it was working, did some more installation stuff, restarted, and started the damn reboot sequence over and over Now when I run in safe mode the last line to come up is Loaded: windowssystem32driversClasspnp.sys Looks like it made it a step farther, for no reason, I really didnt change anything except repeated attempts. Many more attempts at repairs and resets havent gotten any further.

I just did a fresh install of Windows 7 Professional on a 60GB OCZ Vertex 3 and the drive is down to a remaining 15GB out of 55.7 total available space. This is confusing because my last several installs of the exact same OS on the exact same size drives took up much less space. Even after installing several programs like Photoshop and Office, I still had 24GB to spare on my last install with a 60GB Agility 2.

I have been trying to fix these BSODS for a while, and have been told it is a wireless adaptor driver causing the problem. However I have uninstalled and updated that driver, and whilst crashes are less frequent they still occur. Also games which were previously very stable now crash/freeze every time. Fixes I've tried:
Running anti virus (AVG)
Running a registry cleaner
Running a Malware cleaner
Replacing old RAM with newer and more RAM.
Removing Daemon tools
Cleaning the inside of the case, (graphics card is not overheating) Uninstalling and updating wireless adaptor drivers Uninstalling and updating graphics card drivers. The usual system restores/CHKDSK etc. I've attached files as per the forum's BSOD rules. Below is my system, it is about 4 years old and originally came with Vista, which was upgraded with windows 7.

Recently, I heard my fan going really loud while playing some games. So I used some compressed air to clean it out. Surprisingly there wasn't as much dust coming out as I expected. My computer usually runs under 50 C when just browsing the web, but now its at 58. Playing a game, it usually runs at 63ish but now it runs up to 74 C. I even have a laptop fan under my computer. I have no idea whats going on, usually after I use my compressed air, it goes back to normal, but what now?

I'm having a problem loading windows as well. My computer mid use was starting to seriously lag and when I restarted it it began the dreaded system repair system restore loop. It tries to repair itself again and again and then says it can't and asks if you want to shut it down. This has happened once before and it took me forever looking thru forums to find the solution. I just can't remember what I did. I wanna say I did something with a command line. I don't have a windows disc. And I don't believe I did a complete factory reset the last time either.

I have a Dell Inspiron N7070 icore 5 laptop (17" screen) that I've had for about 10 months. Within the last 2-3 weeks, the computer started having problems starting. At first it happened a couple of times but after kicking into Startup repair (which itself never has repaired the issue) and shutting it down via on/off button, it would eventually come back up. Then it just froze and wouldn't start at all in my home environment. My brother works in IT for an organization and I asked him to take a look at it which he did. He first restored it to it's original state through the Dell Backup program at his house but when I brought it back to my house it immediately froze in the same way (the process starts but just gets hung up). I had an older router (G series) and he suspected that the problem might be related to that but when I got a new router (n series) the same thing happened when he repeated a restore process and brought it back to my house. It did actually reach the user choices a couple times but froze from there when trying to connect to the wireless system. Next he restored it again but this time used a restore image program (Acronis True Image 2012)and once again it worked perfectly at his place. We first took it to a different environment (Panera) to try to do a wireless connect but it got hung up there before it could connect. We did another restore image via Acronis and it worked fine in the Panera. However, when I took it home immediately afterward, it once again got hung up after starting and I had to do another restore image with the Acronis and it worked like a charm after that. When I turned it on this morning, it froze once again while starting and I once again proceeded to do another restore image with the Acronis program and it worked fine. What is going on here....why does it keep freezing in different environment or after certain durations of time? Is there some problem with Windows 7 when it initially tries to connect or is it something else perhaps corruption in the drivers? I also should state that we ran Malware Bytes and it was clean after it was restored. In addition, I should also mention that almost from the beginning this laptop had a tendency to freeze at certain times usually if left unattended for awhile (while still on) or when put in sleep or hibernation mode but until recently (as stated above) it never froze when starting up. Could there be a connection between all these glitches noticed from the start?

Recently my computer (HP Pavilion Slimline s7700e PC, running Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit) has been starting with two short beeps; lower in tone than previously... the first beep a little lower in tone than the second. The tone repeats itself one more time.
A couple of weeks ago the computer was making beeps that signaled a memory error, so we removed and replaced the memory modules and the computer booted up again, but with the new tones. It's been running fine since.
This morning I attempted to turn the computer on and nothing happened. I went and booted up my laptop to check my email, and while I was doing so the desktop computer suddenly came alive, with the same two lower-toned beeps has been the norm lately.
