Computer Freezes And Monitor Becomes Unresponsive
Jan 21, 2012
i have a acer aspire am3802-u9062 and while playing games like sc2, world of warcraft, and multiple other games, the computer makes the humming sound through the speakers which i assume means its frozen but the monitor becomes unresposive. i've tried dusting out the inside, taking off the side, turning the back facing the open part of the room, putting a fan by the side of it, so it doesnt seem like a heat problem. i have the recent video card update. i can also watch live-streams and hd videos on Internet with ease and no freezing. im baffled and can't figure it out. also have never had a bsod.
os - windows 7
(home premium 64 bit)
cpu - intel core 2
(quad proccesor q8300)
memory - 8 gb ddr2
hdd - 1 tb
odd - dvd super multi drive
vga - nvidia geforce gt 220 1024 mb
it only started happening recently, about 3 weeks ago. i've also ran programs like advanced system care, smart defrag 2, fix cleaner, ccleaner, along with full virus scans?

i am currently unable to work on assignments on my own computer or enjoy games because it freezes completely sporadically requiring a hard boot. essentially the computer freezes on me and the keyboard becomes disabled and unresponsive. the mouse cursor on the screen slows down, like the sensitivity was turned down 95%, and moves sluggishly, and then i know the freeze is coming. the computer desktop freezes completely, the keyboard becomes disabled and sometimes the screen turns a faint transparent white depending on what application i am running. the cursor then turns into an animated hour glass that i can move around the screen totally normally, with no lag, but everything is unresponsive. i then need to do a hard boot and end up frusturated, tempted to through my computer at the wall.i've scanned the computer with at least 10 different reputable antivirus programs and i have repaired all the registry errors. i've uninstalled programs i no longer need and searched all over solutions, to no avail. [code] i looked at event viewer to try to see a log of the issue but the only error it reported was id 41, from the hard boot. when i'm on Internet and it locks up permanently, the Internet video continues to play.also the freezing is totally random and sometimes i can go for 5h without it happening, other times it freezes up within 10 minutes. usually it freezes up between 10-30 mins of system starting up.

I got a new machine recently and it all works fine, except the operating system seems to randomly freeze. When it does the only way I have found to get out of it is to manually plug it out and restartOn freeze the keyboard and mouse become entirely unresponsive, the cursor does not move, nor do either click buttons do anything, if I'm typing somewhere the text does not appear, and Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn't bring up the usual screenI'm running windows 7 home premium on a 64 bit machine. I haven't found anything quite like this problem around so I thought it deserved a new topic by itselfI can't think of what to do to determine the cause or any potential solution. Everything's up to date. I think all the drivers are too. I put in different virus software 'cause I thought that might be itdit: The last time it happened I tried putting the keyboard and mouse into different USB ports, but that didn't work.Edit2: I just went to my device manager and manually checked for updates for all the drivers, and it turned out my graphics card needed an update (I updated it myself about three weeks ago so I discarded this as a potential problem). So I installed the update.

Recently my computer started freezing it completely freezes and becomes unresponsive and I have to hold down the power button to reboot, so my first attempt was to scan the hardware I ran a Pc-Check diagnostics and all the hardware passed I then completely formatted the hard drive and restored the computer. Once Windows 7 completely installed I installed the missing wireless driver however, after using the computer for about 15min it froze again. I then disassemble the laptop and did some internal cleaning I blew out the dust from the heat sink and applied new thermal paste to the processor. Even after that the problem still remains. Now there is a catch when I boot the computer in safe mode it doesn't freeze even after leaving it on for 5hrs so I don't know what the problem is in normal boot.

Windows 7 SP1 64-bit

im running a windows 7 computer with dual video cards to support three monitors as its a work computer, i have 4gb of ram and i have a few work programs on the computer, it was running fine but recently the computer has started to become really slow randomly and the mouse will skip all over the place instead of being a smooth movement. just wondering if you guys have heard of it before. it seems to be when i ask the computer to do something (eg open another program or change from one program to another.) wasnt always like this. also the physical memory use is over 50% even when most stuff is closed. Also it seems slow to boot. but i think this was just the amount of programs opening on boot. ive disabled a few.

I don't know what this could be, I set my system to power off the monitor instead of using a screen saver. When ever I try to power it back on the screen will come on with the desktop as I left it, but the computer freezes.
So I reboot and during the reboot it checks my C drive for consistency, never finds a problem. Other than that the system works fine, and it doesn't happen every time, more like once or twice a week. It happened twice today which got me fed up enough to ask the community. I have no clue what it could be, I thought it might be the C drive going out, but it's a new SSD, actually it's a replacement as the first one I bought died after about a month and OCZ sent me a new one.

my monitor exhibited signs of flickering during start-up, but only minor ones and would just stop at the 'Welcome' screen of windows so I didn't give it much thought. Iv'e been using it with the cpu the same time I bought the monitor. But after some time, the flickering got worse. It went from 1-2 second interval flickers to a whole 10 seconds of blackness before it showed anything. Now,Iv'e got a new cpu but still using the old monitor. After a day or so, the monitor exhibited the first symptoms of my first cpu, so I just dismissed it. But after a week, It got a hell worse, before I even start-up my computer, the monitor doesn't show Analog/Digital at the top-left corner of the screen. PLUS my cpu keeps restarting after I pushed the ON button after 10 seconds or so. Is the monitor responsible for the restart and what could be the reason for the flickering?

Computer runs very slow. Computer freezes randomly. Does not want to boot past windows startup except for in safe mode(SOMETIMES). IF IT BOOTS takes and an incredibly long time to get to the desktop (20-45min). Does not want to run programs. Runs EXTREMELY slowly (makes a windows 95 pc look like a speed demon.) Random restarts, restart loops, and shutdowns. Sometimes after turning on it will immediately shut off then turn back on. Keeps recommending windows repair on startup. Wants to run chkdsk, then freezes on it.Malware detection programs. Hardware diagnostic programs. registry tools. disk defrags. Driver updates. Windows updates. BIOS update. System restore. Windows repair tool. Repair installation (twice). WINDOWS 7 CLEAN INSTALLATION (twice).Exactly the same as the first day it started happening. So not only did I lose all programs and files, but my pc still runs like crap. Also, this is a higher end pc under a year old. [code]

I have a HP Touchsmart IQ500. Turning my computer PC on today, all I got was a blue HP invent screen with setup, boot menu, system recovery, and system diagnosis, and I could not get past it. I entered the BIOS and figured out that the hard drive was listed as "not installed." Pretty sure that is the main problem.I tried a system restore (with the Windows 7 install disc), but I guess the computer couldn't read the hard drive enough to enter safe mode (I tried restarting and F8ing several times). I put in an external hard drive, and the BIOS read it; however, windows does not allow you to partition an OS on a hard drive.

i have a acer aspire running windows 7 with 500gb hdd and 4 gigs of ram on board graphics card. The computer turns on everything initiates like normal but the monitor wont turn on, im not getting any signal. There are no beep codes etc, also ive tried removing the little lithium battery to reset the bios and still nothing. Ive tried using a different monitor and its saying no signal. I have another computer which is having the same problem its a acer something 1 gig of ram 250 hdd and a readeon graphics card...cant remember the exact name. With this computer i was attempting to add more ram to the extra ram slots and the computer booted up and worked but i only had 2.50 gigs of ram rather than 5? So i turned it off and repositioned theram.which now i wished i hadnt, i now get no signal from either of the computers.

I just finished a new machine, EVGA VIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX+ card. The card has two DVI outlets - 1 S Video outlet. I'm using a Sony Bravia 32" XBR for a monitor.
Using a DVI to HDMI adapter gives me a not so good picture.
Using a DVI to VGA adapter and connecting to the TV in the "PC IN" area, give me a better picture, but still nothing all that great.
Using my Dell laptop, with NVIDIA GeForce 9400M G video and an HDMI outlet gives me a great picture when I go HDMI to HDMI.
I know I am not happy with what I have, I don't know what to do next.
My 1st thought, based on the laptop experience, is to get a video card with an HDMI outlet.
My 2nd thought is to try the S Video connection, which I would if I had a cable.
My 3rd thought was to come here and ask advice from people who probably can come up with more than 3 thoughts at a time.

I've searched the internet far and wide as well as these forums and have not been able to find the answer. Unfortunately, my sister-in-law's dog killed my 2nd monitor so I haven't been able to test on my own since installing the RC version last week. (new monitor will arrive next week)
My question:
If you RDP in Windows 7 from a computer with dual monitors to an XP computer with dual monitors is the multimon support available?
I want the session to feel as though I'm at work with dual monitors.... not just spanning the 2 monitors. My work computer runs windows xp.
Currently the only way to get this functionality in xp is to use the span command and to use add-in 3rd part software that does not work that great.

My monitor starts OK but in a few minutes the screen is either covered by a fine mesh multi colored grid or 4 verticle bars approx. 1-1/2" wide made up of fine multi colored lines similar to those seen when I defrag but running top to bottom of the screen.

Sometimes when I click start and sleep on my computer (windows 7) the monitor will go to sleep but the computer is still running. I cannot wake my monitor up so there is nothing I can do to wake it up besides manually turning it off using the button on the computer case.

My ASUS P8Z68-Vpro Windows 7(64) system will go to sleep manually (from the shutdown menu). I have power management set to turn off the monitor and go to sleep after one minute. After a minute the monitor turns off, but the computer fan keeps on going. (What used to happen is the computer would go to sleep, the fan would turn off, but then a second or two later the computer would wake up by itself. It's possible this has changed because I'm playing with various settings). In any event, I have never gotten it to go to sleep on its own and stay there.
Even when I tell it to go to sleep manually on rare occasions it has also woken up unprovoked. On the local area connection (Intel 82579) I've turned off all wake up things (Wake on lan, wake on link, etc.) I've allowed windows to sleep even when sharing multimedia. I've turned off wake on USB. The keyboard and mouse are now the only devices in the device manager that claim to have the ability to wake the computer up. I suspect the problem may be the D-Link DWA-556 wireless card (PCI slot), although it doesn't report that it has the ability to wake up the computer.
But a few times when I have gotten the computer to go to sleep I was able to wake it up merely by screwing the antenna into the connector on the back. Even though the wireless connection had been disabled from the network and sharing control panel. Does this indicate that my wireless card is defective, or is there some setting on it that I don't know about. Are there any other reasons the computer may not go to sleep or immediately wake up? (I have looked in the event viewer and haven't seen anything suspicious.) Does windows have a log somewhere that could tell me what is waking the computer up (or keeping it from sleeping.)

So after about a year of pretty faithful service my computer has stopped sending anything to a monitor. I've tried 3 different monitors, 2 cords, even tried taking the video card out and plugging it directly into the mother board port. Still wont send anything to a monitor. The computer turns on, the lights on the keyboard flash, the Mp3 plugged in via USB charges, though the lights on my wireless receiver to not turn on either. The beep your computer does when it boots up correctly is noticebly absent as well.

I've recently ran into this problem on my computer. My monitor will not sleep while the computer is locked. If I just let it sit, the screen saver will appear, then the monitor will sleep. However, once the computer is locked, the monitor will not sleep. The monitor auto sleeping was working perfectly fine last week.I have triple checked the Power Options, ensuring the monitor sleeps in 10 minutes (screen saver activates at 5 minutes). I've also looked at the Advanced Power Options setting, and that is set at 10 minutes as well. I have reset to defaults and the problem still persists. I have also tried to set a GPO to see if that would work, nothing either.how the monitor will sleep when the computer isn't locked.I know I could just sleep my computer (I don't want to) or turn my monitor off (this gets annoying after a while).
Edit: What I've done/tried:
Triple checked monitor settings/power options
Reset to defaults, then set the monitor to sleep at 10 minutes
Changed to a new theme
Enabled monitor sleep GPO
Restarted multiple times
Disabled screen saver
My monitor has no sleep settings (settings, not function; it has the sleep function)

1. Computer, at start up, sometimes can't find my monitor. Only way is to start the computer with the monitor switched off; then turn the monitor on at a certain time during the booting process (when I here a motherboard-beep). Occasionally the connection will be broken anyway (and I'll have to mess with the 'reset/-start button). I generally get to the motherboard page and BIOS settings. But sometimes not even that and then the only solution is to leave everything off for a while (minimum a couple of minuts – but not exactly sure).
2. Computer lose monitor when it to goes into sleep mode. This only happens if I leave it inactive for a long enough time. I can usually retrieve it if the display's gone out only for a short while, as usual - by pressing keyboard or moving mouse.
My hope is to find a solution that doesn't involve buying a new monitor.

I am looking for a program which can effectively monitor the time a user spends on a computer, perhaps by looking at keystrokes/mouse movements, or something else...either way, I'd like to be able to compare the usage time on several computers. If I could monitor these times remotely, that would be great, but it is not necessary. It would also be great if rather than just saying "user x spend y time on the computer today", it would log it, so say between what times the user was active.

I try turn on the button on the screen and it won't turn on, the computer itself is fine, it turns on smoothly, and you can hear the start-up process in the computer but the screen is black, (won't turn on).
