View 3 Replies View RelatedI am running the beta on a Dell M1530 (laptop) and it just won't recognize the second monitor at all. I was running dual-monitors just fine on Vista.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've had a second monitor set up for a while now, but havn't been using it much, i tried to use my second display tonight and its displaying no signal, the second monitor isn't even detecting in windows at all now, nvidia control panal will not detect it even when you try force it, its not in the devices, won't detect through the right click > screen resolutions thing either, its just like its not even connected.
Only changes i have made to computer lately was updating to the latest drivers as i got bad company 2, i tried going back to the old drivers i had and still same problem.
Im using x64 win 7 genuine version, geforce 9800gtx+, 24" acer and 32" LG screens, have had this setup working before, i plugged in the new screen and it worked straight away i didn't have to do anything, now its like its no longer detecting its plugged in, i've tried many restarts, i've tried swapping the plugs around and still can't get it to detect.
I just installed the RC and have been trying everything I can to get it to detect my second monitor. Both monitors are identical and worked in the pre RC version of Windows 7 with absolutely no issues.
I used the Nvidia drivers from Windows update as well as the ones from the Nvidia site. Both will not show my second monitor.
If I switch the cables it works on the other monitor no problem.. It just will NOT detect it when they are both plugged in.
I'm using a Sager 3790 notebook with 2 GB of memory, a Centrino 1.7 Ghz and a Mobility Radeon 9700.Installation went perfectly. The card was detected by Windows Update and drivers were isntalled for it. They're from December 2008. Okay, that's fine and dandy. As soon as the drivers install the highest resolution available on the primary display is 640x480. Why? Because Windows won't/can't detect my primary monitor. It shows up as an "Unknown display device."I can attach an external monitor and adjust its resolution all day. I can also remote into the laptop and that works fine.I am nearly 100% confident that I cannot change the display resolution because the monitor won't detect correctly. I can't manually force an install of a monitor or change the "Unknown display device" driver because that section is grayed out in the "Advanced Settings" under the Display Resolution tab.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Sceptre X20WG Naga 20.1" monitor on a DVI connection with my EVGA GTX460 card. I was using it yesterday while studying for finals and decided to hook up my 37" Westinghouse TV via VGA connection, using a VGA-to-DVI converter to plug into the graphics card, as the card only has dual-DVI and mini-HDMI outputs. It was working grand as a second screen, no issue at all. Now, today, I turned on my computer and my Sceptre Monitor wasn't outputting any images at all, it just said no signal detected and then went to sleep, though my computer was still on.
So I turned on the TV out of curiosity and found that the TV was now the main screen, still with the VGA connection, and I hadn't unplugged anything since yesterday. So I logged in and right-clicked on the desktop, went to screen resolution, and here it says that the TV is the only screen detected, even after hitting detect. So I unplugged the VGA from to TV and plugged it into the Sceptre Monitor. Turned on the computer and the monitor worked like a charm on the VGA cable. I also plugged the DVI cable that I was using for the monitor into the TV and that worked like a champ too.
The only reason this is bugging me is because I won't always be using the TV as a main display because it's kinda of a pain to sit close to a screen that big. So I am currently on this forum while my monitor is using the VGA connection. It also seems to vary from which DVI port I use on the videocard because if I plug the VGA cable with converter into the 2nd port, there is no video output, but if it's in the first port, works great. I'm going to try just the DVI cable to the TV on each card port to see what the deal is there.
So basically:
The cable isn't the problem.
The VGA needs to be in the 1st DVI port on the card to work.
The DVI doesn't work at all when hooked up to the monitor.
What I want is to be able to use DVI on the monitor and VGA on the TV.

I recently updated my nVidia drivers to the latest and also my SiSandra Lite software (for quick access to accurate specs of my PC). After updating SiSandra Lite, I looked at the GPU section. As usual it loaded the primary monitor first where everything was fine. I then changed to look at my secondary and my primary monitor turned off and my desktop was shifted to my second. Now when I boot my computer, my primary comes on, but after the pre and post bios. Only when Grub comes on does something appear on my primary monitor, but it's very low resolution (compared to what it used to be). The windows 7 loading bar appears on my primary but before the logo can appear and glow, it swaps to my secondary monitor where it stays.
Windows 7 cannot detect my primary monitor trying both screen resolution detection and it's missing from the devices menu. Really confused about this whole business.I realise this may have been posted as a problem before. I did find little snippets of information about it but nothing sufficient.
I recently got a new computer. a windows 7 x64 bit When i plug in any headphones (they all work perfectly), windows does not detect them as headphone but as speakers. i can still hear everything fine but the audio is just not right, even my ipod, using the same headphones has more bass and clearer sound. i have tried different steps already but none seem to work.

View 6 Replies View Relatedi've been having some really weird freezes, sometimes its just the windows but multimedia keyboard keys / mouse still work, other times it completely freezes (cant even move the mouse.).Usually if i wait a little bit the computer goes back to normal by itself, other times i get BSOD.Im pretty sure its hardware related because i've tried formatting and got a bsod right after installing windows, i suspect the hard drive because when the computer freezes all HDD activity stops, when the computer manages to recover the hard drive activity comes back exactly at the same time the system unfreezes, sometimes if i run chkdsk there are lots and lots of errors, windows fixes them but they come back sooner or later, also, sometimes the computer doesn't detect the hard drive after a BSOD, turning the computer off and then on always "fixes" that tho.
The only reason im not 100% sure its the HDD its because all HDD utilities i've tried (incluiding western digital diagnostics software) say the disk is fine, can SMART be wrong I've also ran memtest and no errors (just one pass tho)Things seem to have gotten worse when i changed the graphic card, however i remember getting these freezes with the old one, just not as serious, prolly just a coincidence.I remember getting 3 kinds of BSOD errors: driver_power_state_failure, pagefault_in_nonpaged_area and kernel_data_inpage_error.A week ago i turned my pc on and windows was broken, startup repair thing would show up and try to repair but failed no matter how many times i tried, this never happened to me before so it must be related.
I've been having internet connection problems for the last couple weeks, i moved my entire setup closer to my router, and i still had bad internet. I searched around my house a little bit and found ethernet cables, i connected them and everything but, windows doesn't seem to detect them (well it does but it doesn't use it as the connection)

View 4 Replies View Relatedmy monitor exhibited signs of flickering during start-up, but only minor ones and would just stop at the 'Welcome' screen of windows so I didn't give it much thought. Iv'e been using it with the cpu the same time I bought the monitor. But after some time, the flickering got worse. It went from 1-2 second interval flickers to a whole 10 seconds of blackness before it showed anything. Now,Iv'e got a new cpu but still using the old monitor. After a day or so, the monitor exhibited the first symptoms of my first cpu, so I just dismissed it. But after a week, It got a hell worse, before I even start-up my computer, the monitor doesn't show Analog/Digital at the top-left corner of the screen. PLUS my cpu keeps restarting after I pushed the ON button after 10 seconds or so. Is the monitor responsible for the restart and what could be the reason for the flickering?

View 2 Replies View Relatedi have a acer aspire running windows 7 with 500gb hdd and 4 gigs of ram on board graphics card. The computer turns on everything initiates like normal but the monitor wont turn on, im not getting any signal. There are no beep codes etc, also ive tried removing the little lithium battery to reset the bios and still nothing. Ive tried using a different monitor and its saying no signal. I have another computer which is having the same problem its a acer something 1 gig of ram 250 hdd and a readeon graphics card...cant remember the exact name. With this computer i was attempting to add more ram to the extra ram slots and the computer booted up and worked but i only had 2.50 gigs of ram rather than 5? So i turned it off and repositioned theram.which now i wished i hadnt, i now get no signal from either of the computers.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI just finished a new machine, EVGA VIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX+ card. The card has two DVI outlets - 1 S Video outlet. I'm using a Sony Bravia 32" XBR for a monitor.
Using a DVI to HDMI adapter gives me a not so good picture.
Using a DVI to VGA adapter and connecting to the TV in the "PC IN" area, give me a better picture, but still nothing all that great.
Using my Dell laptop, with NVIDIA GeForce 9400M G video and an HDMI outlet gives me a great picture when I go HDMI to HDMI.
I know I am not happy with what I have, I don't know what to do next.
My 1st thought, based on the laptop experience, is to get a video card with an HDMI outlet.
My 2nd thought is to try the S Video connection, which I would if I had a cable.
My 3rd thought was to come here and ask advice from people who probably can come up with more than 3 thoughts at a time.
I've searched the internet far and wide as well as these forums and have not been able to find the answer. Unfortunately, my sister-in-law's dog killed my 2nd monitor so I haven't been able to test on my own since installing the RC version last week. (new monitor will arrive next week)
My question:
If you RDP in Windows 7 from a computer with dual monitors to an XP computer with dual monitors is the multimon support available?
I want the session to feel as though I'm at work with dual monitors.... not just spanning the 2 monitors. My work computer runs windows xp.
Currently the only way to get this functionality in xp is to use the span command and to use add-in 3rd part software that does not work that great.
My monitor starts OK but in a few minutes the screen is either covered by a fine mesh multi colored grid or 4 verticle bars approx. 1-1/2" wide made up of fine multi colored lines similar to those seen when I defrag but running top to bottom of the screen.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSometimes when I click start and sleep on my computer (windows 7) the monitor will go to sleep but the computer is still running. I cannot wake my monitor up so there is nothing I can do to wake it up besides manually turning it off using the button on the computer case.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy ASUS P8Z68-Vpro Windows 7(64) system will go to sleep manually (from the shutdown menu). I have power management set to turn off the monitor and go to sleep after one minute. After a minute the monitor turns off, but the computer fan keeps on going. (What used to happen is the computer would go to sleep, the fan would turn off, but then a second or two later the computer would wake up by itself. It's possible this has changed because I'm playing with various settings). In any event, I have never gotten it to go to sleep on its own and stay there.
Even when I tell it to go to sleep manually on rare occasions it has also woken up unprovoked. On the local area connection (Intel 82579) I've turned off all wake up things (Wake on lan, wake on link, etc.) I've allowed windows to sleep even when sharing multimedia. I've turned off wake on USB. The keyboard and mouse are now the only devices in the device manager that claim to have the ability to wake the computer up. I suspect the problem may be the D-Link DWA-556 wireless card (PCI slot), although it doesn't report that it has the ability to wake up the computer.
But a few times when I have gotten the computer to go to sleep I was able to wake it up merely by screwing the antenna into the connector on the back. Even though the wireless connection had been disabled from the network and sharing control panel. Does this indicate that my wireless card is defective, or is there some setting on it that I don't know about. Are there any other reasons the computer may not go to sleep or immediately wake up? (I have looked in the event viewer and haven't seen anything suspicious.) Does windows have a log somewhere that could tell me what is waking the computer up (or keeping it from sleeping.)
So after about a year of pretty faithful service my computer has stopped sending anything to a monitor. I've tried 3 different monitors, 2 cords, even tried taking the video card out and plugging it directly into the mother board port. Still wont send anything to a monitor. The computer turns on, the lights on the keyboard flash, the Mp3 plugged in via USB charges, though the lights on my wireless receiver to not turn on either. The beep your computer does when it boots up correctly is noticebly absent as well.
