My computer will not do anything past turning on. It is frozen on the first screen it shows, which is the screen that gives you your computer info and tells you to press F1 to resume. It says S.M.A.R.T. Capable and Status BAD; AHCI Port0 Device Error. It obviously does nothing when I click F1, I have tried control alt delete and clicking the escape key. The only action I have is to turn it off!

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy computer crashes on shutdown, restart and I suspect hibernate (I think that is what causes them while it sits idle). It was more broken yesterday than it is now, as I have seemingly solved some of the problems. I have included some history below, just in case it's useful.I got back from a trip (4 month exchange) and installed 26 windows updates. only KB2607576 failed, then it worked when windows tried again. When I opened Windows after that, my NIC card and several USB drivers weren't working (code 10 I think... certain .dlls didn't load). I had to disable/reenable each device/usb one in order to get them working. Occasionally the system would hang while I did this, usually on the last USB - forcing a manual power off.
I eventually rolled back to a restore solved before I left for my exchange and; updated my BIOS, chipset and USB to the latest from the manu's site. I figure windows installed the new USB 3.0 drivers (Renases USB 3.0 Host Controller/Root Hub) without any regard to my chipset/bios version and this somehow caused the problem - though I have no evidence and little experience in this area.Windows was also telling me Skype wasn't working, though it appeared to be working fine (it gave mo the fix a problem with... dialogue). I have re-installed Skype since.Now everything seems to be working (NIC, USB, etc.), except for the crashes. When it crashes, I see a BSOD. A BSOD was happening earlier while the NIC/USB were acting up also, but there appear to be no logs for those. These are in fact the only logs I have, and this has happened several times.
whenever I click on "Hibernate" from the start menu, my computer goes on standby. Also my computer usually has the uncanny ability to Hibernate when its battery gets critical. Now it just goes on standby, and I lose my work.

I tried the third option, which is changing the value in the registry of the windows. After changing the value, I restarted the computer, which is what I was asked. While I was expecting to see the hibernate option enabled, I ended up with the blue screen. After the windows logo on the start up, blue screen shows up on the screen with dumping the memory. Now, I don't know how I can revert this back. Ok, I don't want hibernate enable anymore but at least I need my windows back.
When I try to hibernate, the screen goes black, then immediately comes back to the log on screen; this is regardless of whether I go into hibernate via the start button, pushing the power button, or closing the lid. I have each of those methods set to hibernate.I actually cloned my original HDD to an SSD; the original HDD was about 10GB larger than the SSD, but nowhere full. I was not experiencing any issues with the HDD. After the clone, I am not having any functionality issues besides the inability to go into hibernate mode.What I've tried so far includes: Followed all steps in the tutorial/guide for the enable/disable hibernate. here Looked through my BIOS settings, reverted them to defaults. Performed a disk repair. Ran CCleaner.
Looked through all my power plan settings to ensure hibernate is enabled and no options say "never" for hibernate. Increased the file of hibersys.fil to 100% per the tutorial hereThe rationale for using hibernate and why this is a big deal to me is as follows. Booting take time compared to dehibernating, which is instant. Also, more importantly, I usually have at least 8 instances of word/excel/email client/PDFs/web browser open as I work on a project. I often need to power down the laptop and then continue where I left off and reopening all of those items is quite annoying. Using hibernate, I do not have to close the various documents/programs to power down. This increases my efficiency enormously. Also please note that sleeping still consumes battery power where hibernating does not consume any battery power.
Have new PC and it used to hibernate after a period of time. The fans will shut down, monitors shut down etc. When I wake it then fans start back up, I have to relog in to Windows etc. Suddenly it no longer does this. I do not recall changing any setting and have gone to screen saver and set power saving settings etc. This is my first Windows 7 machine so not sure if i need to do something elsewhere

I've opened up every menu I can think of and changed the settings but can't figure out why I can only use hibernate.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI got my laptop a few weeks ago and noticed that it will sometimes go into hibernate, and other times it will not, and instead hang on a black (but enabled/on) LCD. When you touch the keyboard, it even makes Windows 7 dings for incorrectly pressed key (meaning the OS is still on). If it is going into sleep or hibernate due to low battery and this error happens, it will just keep beeping really loudly at me until the laptop dies (I'm assuming that's the motherboard's part, though).I have no idea what to do, and I'm really freaking puzzled right now. I've already tried turning hybrid sleep on and off, and neither of them yielded any positive results. Anyone have any clue what I should do?
PS: I've noticed last night after gaming for a bit, that the fans remained in a full blast state (yes, even when the game is closed). This might be related to it although I am not sure. Also, I cannot upgrade my video drivers because the graphics are integrated with the Intel Integrated Graphics, meaning the drivers are made by the manufacturer.

so this problem started a few days ago while i was watching a Internet video, for no apparent reason the video froze and the sound started lagging over a few seconds (audio slowed down), then my computer went completely unresponsive and the only way i could turn it off was by unplugging it. once i turned it back on i noticed the motherboard splash screen was a bit pixelated and distorted, and every time the computer goes to the win7 splash screen it loads the little windows icon animation but then when it begins to transition to the login screen, the screen remains black and hangs and never makes it to the login screen.i have a spartan brand laptop (a few years old) with a intel dual core cpu, phoenix technologes motheboard, running windows 7 professional and an nvidia gefore go 7600 video card.once this problem occured i tried numerous attempts to fix it.
1. i tried to run a system repair and the only error i got was something about a patch being the cause of the problem, i proceeded to delete windows patches through safe mode but this did not solve the problem.
2. i attempted numerous system restores to all the dates available to me via safe mode but win7 still does not strat up.
3. i used the repair tool to repair to the most recent point of good working configuration but this did not work either.
i've also run a chkdisk or whatever it's called. it took a while so i left the room to do something else, when i returned i had assumed it finished and restareted my computer because my laptop was hanging on the black screen after the win7 splash screen as usual. the odd thing is, is that i can use safe mode as well as safe mode with networking (which i'm using as i type) and i've also reinstalled windows once while keeping my files and a second time as a completely clean installation. when i've reinstalled win7 both times it goes straight to the desktop after the installation and the computer works completely like normal. i can install things, use the internet, everything. the problem is that some of my drivers are not installed (like the video card) and when i install them i have to restart my computer, and when i restart the computer hangs like usual after the win7 splash screen and i'm back to square one.i don't unserstand why everything works normally but i just can't get past the splash screen. after my second installation of windows7 i ran the repair utility again and the only error i get is that there is an "unspecified error due to changes to the system configuration."
GFWL was working fine until yesterday. I went to start Batman: Arkham City and it crashed after the splash screen. I noticed that GFWL and the marketplace also would not start (splash screen, then nothing).
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling GFWL and the Marketplace, as well as the .Net framework (multiple times). I can NOT get these to work! And I have no idea what could possibly have caused this, since I didn't update any software between the time I played the game last and yesterday morning (maybe a 24 hour span).
Are there any other common fixes? These literally leave no errors and just close when trying to start, making the games that use GFWL crash on start up (just get the generic "blah has stopped working" error).
I've tried the steam user forums, XBOX forums (under the PC sections) and e-mailing microsoft, but no answers yet.
My last resort would be to find a custom installer for the game with a crack so I could possibly completely bypass GFWL.
This problem started about a month ago with Windows Live Messenger. Since then i had no problems until last week when my game recording program WeGame began to crash when i start it up. Now today one of my favourite games Counter Strike : Source has started having the same problem.When starting Windows Live Messenger i am given the Windows Live Messenger has stopped working.. then it closes.When starting WeGame it usually crashes when i log in, with the same error.When i start Counter Strike : Source it says Hl2.exe has stopped working and needs to close.I have tried running as an administrator, in compatablility mode, restarting computer, reinstalling all 3 programs, using CCleaner and Windows Cleaner, closing other applications, disabling antivirus, scanning for viruses and many other things.

I have always liked the Hibernate feature and used it extensively when I was running Windows Vista Ultimate. Since installing Windows 7, whenever I run Hibernate the computer turns back on. When I used Hibernate in Windows Vista Ultimate I knew that the programs that I left open would be where I left off when I restarted the computer from Hibernate. Now, it just seems to turn on when it wants to. I am sure it is a setting in the Power Settings category in Control Panel. I'm just not sure how to set.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have an ASUS G51JX-X2 laptop with 8 GB RAM (4 2GB chips). I've had this computer for about 18 months without any problems. A couple of days ago, I noticed that the computer hung up when trying to hibernate. The screen was black and the hard drive light was off, but the touchpad, wireless, bluetooth, and power lights remained on. I left it and went to work, and when I returned it was still in this state so I held the power button to shut it down. The computer started normally, but then that night when I went to shut the computer down, it did the same thing. I made some changes to disable the services at start up in an attempt to narrow down the problem and I discover that is I choose restart, the computer shuts down and restarts fine (although it sits with the screen black and the lights on for a while). It will not shut down or hibernate though. what's going on:
I thought I might have gotten a driver update so I looked at Windows Update and I hadn't gotten anything since 7/21. I did get one on 8/3, but that was after I started having problems. Using msconfig I disabled the start up services (except MS) and start up items to see if that helped and rebooted. The reboot worked, but then the shutdown failed again. I read in some forums that it might be related to the wireless, so I used the switch on the front of the computer to turn off wireless and bluetooth before shutting down - no luck. I thought it might be a problem with the memory since that's a relatively recent upgrade so I created a boot CD and ran memtest86+. It ran all night through 4 passes and no errors. I ran chkdsk on the hard drive just to be safe and it didn't find any errors. I checked to see if ClearPageFileAtShutdown was set to 1 in the registry, but it is 0. I checked to make sure that the bios is up to date and it is (version 208).
I have an inspiron 1545 running windows 7 (x64) and I am having problems waking up my computer from sleep . Usually, when I put my computer to sleep, I have problems waking up my computer. The screen stays relatively dark when I move my mouse although I can see some light coming from the bottom part of the screen (so the screen seems to be on, just not showing anything sueful). When I try to press the space bar multiple times, my computer gives me a warning ding and it plays a sound when I insert or remove my usb mouse.

Up until now, it had no issues going into and coming out of sleep.Now, whenever it goes to sleep (whether due to inactivity or putting it to sleep manually), it won't wake up. The lights come on, the fans come on, but the monitor stays in standby. I've looked around online and found that many people get a black screen when booting up, i.e. the monitor comes alive and they may get a mouse cursor, but that's not what's happening to me. I don't get a black screen--my screen is never getting a signal from the computer. I have to do a hard reset, after which I get the 'Start Windows Normally' screen.I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the graphics drivers, changing hybrid sleep settings, using hibernate instead of standby, uninstalling random programs, etc, to no effect. I don't think I had any major windows or driver updates that caused it.

If I try to hibernate or shut down my computer it hangs up on either "Logging off" or "Shutting down" and stays there. When I sleep or hibernate my computer, within 10 seconds of it turning off, it turns back on again by itself. When it turns back on, there is no output on my monitor. I used remote desktop from another computer to see whether it was just the video that wasn't being reposted, but when I tried to connect, it couldn't find the computer. None of the keys work on my keyboard, including the sleep and power buttons.
I have an ASUS P5LD2 Deluxe motherboard, and an Intel 3.0 GHz processor. I'm also running the x64 version of Windows 7.
Any ideas how to stop it starting up autonomously ?
I have a two year old Dell PC with Windows 7. I got a virus in my computer that by phone and computer takeover Norton located in my MBR. When they cleaned it my computer will no longer boot up. Norton worked with me for three days on the problem but we were unable to fix the computer. I followed other web sites and repaired my MBR but it still will not boot up. I tried System Repair, Check point, Image, and Dell system restore and all failed. I have tried to use the Windows install CD and all I get is a black screen with a flashing cursor and then after 3 minutes the compute attempts to boot again and fails. I tried everything to try and wipe the drive from C prompt and it will not let me. I have very weak computer skills but I can follow directions and I have wiped a previous computer I owned. (I confirmed that my CD drive is working) I also should mention I have a second hard drive on my computer that I backed everything up to.

It happens on start-up after the computer has been off for more than a few hours- about 3 minutes after launch, it freezes- screen first, and then the audio seems to continue briefly before going silent, or looping the last few seconds of sound. After a hard reset, I can start in normal mode and everything is fine- no more crashes, until the next time I shut down/start up (normally this is happening each morning after I have shut down the night before).I read through some info I was able to find on here and (techsupportforum)- I have checked the action center, and there is an entry for each hard reset, "Kernel-Power Event ID 41 Task Category (63)". I have read that this does not actually indicate anything but that I had to do a hard reset. The recurring issues/suggestions I have seen consist of 3 thoughts: 1. PSU is dying, 2. video card or processor are overheating, or 3. multiple audio drivers. I know my video card does run warm, but it isn't into critical temperatures (I have installed an application to monitor the temperature, which I will run from time to time- especially while running illustrator/photoshop/dreamweaver simultaneously, or while playing graphics-intense games [rift, e.g.]). The PSU could be it but I'd rather check on the audio driver situation first.
[CODE]When I go into Device Manager, there is an entry under "Sound, video and game controllers", called "High Definition Audio Device". Under "System Devices", there is an entry called "High Definition Audio Controller". Is this a conflict? Also, when I go to Volume Control Options from the task bar, "Sound devices" lists:Headphones, Speakers, and then two different entries for "Digital Audio (S/PDIF).I really have no idea what the issue is, but it is getting frustrating, and I feel like the audio scenario is the most likely.
I have also recently been experiencing random shut downs during hibernate. I don't even realize it has happened until I go to wake up my computer.

my system crashed yesterday due to gpu overheating. now it boots till windows animated logo but at the point right when welcome screen usually comes there is nothing now but a moveable mouse cursor on a completelly black background.now i have following stuff to get back to normal: two very old restore points and a recently created macrium reflect system image but no repair disc. i will be very happy, if there is a way to use the image since i know that some of you prefer macrium reflect insted of microsofts system image solution. unfurtuntelly my restauration points are way to old (april 2011).

I cannot set up symbols on MS debugger (after many attempts) I have attached screenshots of cpu-z (both tabs) and my event viewer which lists 24 critical failures, all event ID 41: "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."
p.s. Dunno if this is important but the machine is a Sony Vaio but I have uninstalled all sony bloat ware (except Vaio Control Center)
my Toshiba Satellite C655D wont reboot it gets to 95% and says error then a blue screen pops up and says it is crashing . Is there anything I can do to repair it . I dont have a repair disk.
