Have new PC and it used to hibernate after a period of time. The fans will shut down, monitors shut down etc. When I wake it then fans start back up, I have to relog in to Windows etc. Suddenly it no longer does this. I do not recall changing any setting and have gone to screen saver and set power saving settings etc. This is my first Windows 7 machine so not sure if i need to do something elsewhere
View 2 RepliesI upgraded to Windows 7 when it was first released and for some reason cannot use the sleep function. My power options in the control panel are set to "Balanced." I've opened up every menu I can think of and changed the settings but can't figure out why I can only use hibernate.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI got my laptop a few weeks ago and noticed that it will sometimes go into hibernate, and other times it will not, and instead hang on a black (but enabled/on) LCD. When you touch the keyboard, it even makes Windows 7 dings for incorrectly pressed key (meaning the OS is still on). If it is going into sleep or hibernate due to low battery and this error happens, it will just keep beeping really loudly at me until the laptop dies (I'm assuming that's the motherboard's part, though).I have no idea what to do, and I'm really freaking puzzled right now. I've already tried turning hybrid sleep on and off, and neither of them yielded any positive results. Anyone have any clue what I should do?
PS: I've noticed last night after gaming for a bit, that the fans remained in a full blast state (yes, even when the game is closed). This might be related to it although I am not sure. Also, I cannot upgrade my video drivers because the graphics are integrated with the Intel Integrated Graphics, meaning the drivers are made by the manufacturer.

I am having a problem with a new installation of Windows 7 Home Premium. I have always liked the Hibernate feature and used it extensively when I was running Windows Vista Ultimate. Since installing Windows 7, whenever I run Hibernate the computer turns back on. When I used Hibernate in Windows Vista Ultimate I knew that the programs that I left open would be where I left off when I restarted the computer from Hibernate. Now, it just seems to turn on when it wants to. I am sure it is a setting in the Power Settings category in Control Panel. I'm just not sure how to set.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have an ASUS G51JX-X2 laptop with 8 GB RAM (4 2GB chips). I've had this computer for about 18 months without any problems. A couple of days ago, I noticed that the computer hung up when trying to hibernate. The screen was black and the hard drive light was off, but the touchpad, wireless, bluetooth, and power lights remained on. I left it and went to work, and when I returned it was still in this state so I held the power button to shut it down. The computer started normally, but then that night when I went to shut the computer down, it did the same thing. I made some changes to disable the services at start up in an attempt to narrow down the problem and I discover that is I choose restart, the computer shuts down and restarts fine (although it sits with the screen black and the lights on for a while). It will not shut down or hibernate though. what's going on:
I thought I might have gotten a driver update so I looked at Windows Update and I hadn't gotten anything since 7/21. I did get one on 8/3, but that was after I started having problems. Using msconfig I disabled the start up services (except MS) and start up items to see if that helped and rebooted. The reboot worked, but then the shutdown failed again. I read in some forums that it might be related to the wireless, so I used the switch on the front of the computer to turn off wireless and bluetooth before shutting down - no luck. I thought it might be a problem with the memory since that's a relatively recent upgrade so I created a boot CD and ran memtest86+. It ran all night through 4 passes and no errors. I ran chkdsk on the hard drive just to be safe and it didn't find any errors. I checked to see if ClearPageFileAtShutdown was set to 1 in the registry, but it is 0. I checked to make sure that the bios is up to date and it is (version 208).
I have an inspiron 1545 running windows 7 (x64) and I am having problems waking up my computer from sleep . Usually, when I put my computer to sleep, I have problems waking up my computer. The screen stays relatively dark when I move my mouse although I can see some light coming from the bottom part of the screen (so the screen seems to be on, just not showing anything sueful). When I try to press the space bar multiple times, my computer gives me a warning ding and it plays a sound when I insert or remove my usb mouse.

Up until now, it had no issues going into and coming out of sleep.Now, whenever it goes to sleep (whether due to inactivity or putting it to sleep manually), it won't wake up. The lights come on, the fans come on, but the monitor stays in standby. I've looked around online and found that many people get a black screen when booting up, i.e. the monitor comes alive and they may get a mouse cursor, but that's not what's happening to me. I don't get a black screen--my screen is never getting a signal from the computer. I have to do a hard reset, after which I get the 'Start Windows Normally' screen.I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the graphics drivers, changing hybrid sleep settings, using hibernate instead of standby, uninstalling random programs, etc, to no effect. I don't think I had any major windows or driver updates that caused it.

If I try to hibernate or shut down my computer it hangs up on either "Logging off" or "Shutting down" and stays there. It is frozen on the first screen it shows, which is the screen that gives you your computer info and tells you to press F1 to resume. It says S.M.A.R.T. When I sleep or hibernate my computer, within 10 seconds of it turning off, it turns back on again by itself. When it turns back on, there is no output on my monitor. I used remote desktop from another computer to see whether it was just the video that wasn't being reposted, but when I tried to connect, it couldn't find the computer. None of the keys work on my keyboard, including the sleep and power buttons.
I have an ASUS P5LD2 Deluxe motherboard, and an Intel 3.0 GHz processor. I'm also running the x64 version of Windows 7.
Any ideas how to stop it starting up autonomously ?
I have also recently been experiencing random shut downs during hibernate. I don't even realize it has happened until I go to wake up my computer.

My Windows 7 64-bit laptop crashes when I return to my computer after sleep/hibernate.
I cannot set up symbols on MS debugger (after many attempts) I have attached screenshots of cpu-z (both tabs) and my event viewer which lists 24 critical failures, all event ID 41: "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."
p.s. Dunno if this is important but the machine is a Sony Vaio but I have uninstalled all sony bloat ware (except Vaio Control Center)
whenever I click on "Hibernate" from the start menu, my computer goes on standby. Also my computer usually has the uncanny ability to Hibernate when its battery gets critical. Now it just goes on standby, and I lose my work.

I see hibernate. I have chosen hiberate by lid and power button. It will hibernate once then come back on will not hibernate again.In fact it goes off into some weird power state each time, of sleep, then a few minutes later waking, or never sleeping and waking right away. Anybody have any creative ways to be able to wake a computer up from a distance? Hibernate preferable but I understand it may be unreasonably difficult, perhaps sleep would be better? Still, sleep doesn't give the energy saving advantages as hibernation.

At first I tried a mild overclock at 4.4ghz and stability tested with P95 for a few hours with no errors at all. Everything worked fine!Come time for her to actually use it, of course, BSOD's ensued, followed by boot looping.Boot loop would not stop until one of the DIMMs was removed.Naturally I thought the RAM was the culprit and tested the sticks using Memtest86, 4 passes each with no errors.Next tried single sticks of RAM in each slot, booted up fine. Tried with two sticks (1&3, 2&4), and it seemed to work fine if booting from a clean shutdown (as opposed to BSOD).Reverted to default BIOS settings and it seemed to help a little, as in it would actually wake from Hibernate a few times, but then out of nowhere would BSOD again.I read somewhere that a bent cpu pin might do this, but since a single stick worked on each of the 4 slots, I think this can be ruled out.BIOS are upto date with latest 2.20 version as well.Right now the computer is working fine with only one stick of RAM, the last BSOD happened with two sticks in, opening up Photoshop and InDesign at the same time with stock BIOS settings.

i am facing the problem with hibernate before today when i hibernate laptop displays goes off but the laptop is still working and stop when the battery is empty and when again start the laptop it shows windows not shutdown properly and no BSOD ,error detail but now when i press hibernate system goes to sleep and when press any key or move the mouse system instantly show log on screen this is 2nd time 1 month ago same problem occurred but find no solution so ultimately i have to re-install the O.S but this problem occurred again.

After almost a year of "no problems" operation my PC has suddenly developed a strange will of its own on shut-down.I always put my PC into hibernate mode rather than switching it off. I use the START/Shut Down/Hibernate series of steps. Suddenly recently, my PC still goes into hibernate, as previously, but after approx 2-3 seconds the PC suddenly restarts! The only way to end PC use is now to shut it down completely which is a pain as it takes far longer to restart next time I use the machine.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have bought the Windows 7 Ultimate x32 bit for my macbook pro and after a Start->Hibernate Windows does not reboot anymore, I just have a black screen.The problem comes from the Start -> hibernante, I did not change any driver or did any updateI can't get the safe mode F8 working and the same if I try booting on the Windows DVD I have the same black screen.If I boot on my Mac OS X partition I can have an access to the Windows 7 files. Maybe I could delete or modify some files to be able to boot on Windows 7 normally, without the Hibernate process.

I need to boot into an image that will allow me to write to a SATA array, remove the array, and install a clean array for the next power up. Could this be done with some type of hibernate image(and how) or would I need to figure out how to boot from an ISO image?My main goal is to boot the system with the same settings every time and write data to the SATA array. The array will be removed and cleaned before power is returned. It would be great if there is a way to change a setting if need be and not need to take more than 20 minutes to redo the image.
