Hibernate Using Monitor Power?
Feb 23, 2011
ive got my system to go into hibernation using s3 acpi, and usb remote. also it will come out of hibernation using the remote and or usb keyboard. My system is used as a htpc and was wondering is there a way to hibernate the system with the power button of my tv (monitor) ie:- when monitor isnt detected.is there a setting im missing. basicly i have a plasma tv and onkyo 607 receiver. connected via vierra link. so when i power the tv down the receiver powers down . now it would be fantastic if it put the htpc into hibernation also..

Just upgrade my server with a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H mobo and a G630T processor. Installed Windows 7 Ultimate. For some reason I don't see the options for hybrid sleep or hibernate in advanced power options menu. Generally, I believe they are supposed to be under sleep in the advanced menu but only "Sleep After" and "Allow wake timers" are present in the menu. I haven't upgraded to a new mobo in years and in my old mobo there was an option to enable S3 sleep. This mobo has options to enable wake timer, WOL, and a couple of others but nothing to disable to enable hybrid sleep. My system seems to still go to sleep ok but the lack of the two options seems odd to me and wanted to see if anyone possibly had a similar problem.

I put my Windows 7 laptop to hibernate when it is plugged to the power source. When I unplugged the laptop from the power source, the laptop powers off. The next time I turn on the laptop, it is restarted and I see the screen with a message that says Windows was not properly shut down.

2 hour hibernation for both CPU and monitor worked perfectly for about two weeks, waking up with a touch to the spacebar. Then a few days ago the monitor would not wake up but the computer did. Now if I turn off the AC .
power to both units and then re-boot the monitor will turn on but will go back to sleep in about 15 minutes with the blue light blinking. The computer will complete a DL or backup with monitor sleeping so it appears OK.
Checks so far:
1. Updated drivers for both monitor and video card with latest available. Also updated chipset and BIOS (504).
2. Swapped monitors between computers and the problem went to the second monitor. Main monitor worked all day on second computer.
3. Spoke to ASUS tech support and was told that the monitor is controlled by the OS. Suggested I enable ACPI 2.0 support (default disabled) and disable ACPI APIC Support (default enabled) in BIOS. Won't boot to OS when ACPI APIC Support disabled.
4. Found a few similar cases on the Internet but no solutions.
5. Even tried turning off hibernation and setting monitor timeouts in the Powercfg using CMD prompt.
6. Re-installed OS, big mistake as it took several hours to get re-registered.

I have build 7068. From the start my screensaver and power options are not working. The problem is sometimes they DO work. I am having trouble diagnosing it because of that fact. What would cause this? I just want the monitor to turn off 30 minutes after stop using the computer. That's the main issue. I go to "power options" and set it at 30 minutes and never put to sleep. What am I missing here?

I am starting to think I may have a power supply issue and none of the programs I use seem to monitor it correctly or the power supply is bad. I have been using TOverclocker (came with my Biostar MB), Speccy, Everest, HWinfo64, HWinfo32 and SpeedFan. None of these give me consistent measurements or measure the voltages wrong from opening the program. Is there a monitor program out there that is very good at measuring power supply voltages. My MB is a Biostar TZ68A+.

When I set the power management to turn off the monitor after x minutes, the monitor is off for 1 second and it turned on automatically. I am using msi ex600 laptop.
I have tried the following:
* Unplugged the mouse
* Exit from all application's running
* Disable the network card
My bios and graphic card are updated. The hibernate option is working fine. Is there a way to find what turns on the monitor?

Windows 7 Ultimate (x64) keeps turning the monitor off after 15 Mins of in-activity.However - before it does that at 14 Mins and 30 Seconds it sorta does a quick flash - then at exactlly 15 mins does the turning off.All the power options are set to Never. (I have even created my own power plan for this)I have never had this problem on this PC before - this is a new install - and since then it has been doing this.

I left my computer running overnight as I usually do. When I went back to it this morning, it was stuck in power saving mode. When I rebooted, everything looked fine and the windows logo loaded but when I reached the login screen it went directly to Power Saving mode and got stuck there.
I am posting this from Safe Mode with Networking.

i7-2600K CPU @ 3.40 Ghz
OEM
8Gb RAM
Asus P8P67Pro
Harware & software build around 6 months old
BIOS, Windows updates and Driver updates applied regularly.
A couple of weeks ago i had a BSOD. Since, when trying to boot, most of the time my monitor turns ON, OFF, ON, OFF, etc...for some time, very rarely leading to a successful boot. No problem accessing Recovery options or BIOS.sometimes (very rarely), it does boot up normally.I have tried everything i can think of (with my limited knowledge).

I have a new problem. My monitor has begun to blink repeatedly after coming out of power saving mode (when the screen turns off automatically due to inactivity).
I have no problems with this in that past. This problem just started out of the blue a few days ago. Initially, it would just blink once or twice coming out of power saving mode, now it might blink 10 or more times before the monitor stays on. Once the monitor is on, it functions fine. The blinking only occurs after coming out of power saving mode.

I have been using 2 monitors for a year or so. One day my second monitor stopped working. When the computer starts or I cycle power to the monitor the screen displays briefly (1-2 seconds) and then goes blank. It shows the desktop correctly (or whatever would be there) but won't stay that way. Each monitor works correctly on it's own and in either port and with either DVI cable.
NVIDIA GeForce GTS 240
Monitor1: Samsung Syncmaster 245BW
Monitor2: LG Flatron W2361V
What I have tried:
1. I have switched out all cables.
2. Tried monitor on another computer (works)
3. Unplugged everything and let it sit 20 minutes or so and then plugged it all back in
4. Updated video drivers, including a fresh install of Nvidia control software
5. Adjusted to all available refresh rates and resolutions on both monitors

I have made sure that the power settings in control panel have been set to "never" under advanced settings. About 4 months ago, windows decided to set my monitor shut off time to 20 minutes. The first time it happened, I figured it was a one-off thing, and set the monitor off setting back to "never". Fast forward 4 months, and I have to turn the setting to "never" every time I start my computer. I've even made custom power profiles, and every time I restart, the monitor off setting keeps going back to 20 minutes.

I bought a new CPU and Motherboard today and put them together. I'm assuming I plugged the wires properly. So far no beeps when i start the computer but the fans are working and the LED lights light up. The monitor says "power saving" everytime I start it up. I have windows 7 32 bit installed on my hard drive and was planning to format it into windows 7 64 bit but I can't when my computer won't even start.

When I'm using the computer...at very random times, the screen goes black, then a blue window pops up telling me it has gone into power safe mode. I'm assuming, when this happens the computer freezes because, when I hit the hot key I set up on my keyboard to shut down, nothing happens...So, the only option I have is unplugging or holding the power button until the machine shuts off. Then, I restart. When I try my hotkey for shut down during normal usage, it works just fine, but not when the monitor decides to take a coffee break and leave me hanging. If I was doing something lame, like work, it wouldn't be so bad, but right in the middle of online gaming??? COME ON!To sneak another question in...which might, very well, be linked to the issue above, the computer freezes at random times as well. Especially, at startup. I have to hold the power button 3 or 4 times...with beep beep beeps...until it finally decides to show for work and do what its job description states.

The monitor seems to go into power saving mode when entering/exiting a game such as a game in steam. (But it doesn't happen every time) the only way to get it out is hard restart. Yes I've tried other monitors, as well as display drivers, and there also seems to be nothing wrong in the Bios.

I recently called Dell Support and they used Dell Connect to try to fix it. Yesterday, I got home and my screen was blank. So I turned the computer on and logged in. Within seconds it did the Power Saving Mode thing. Then I let it go until today. Now I can get on the internet but when I run games that I play, it still does it.

I've done a lot of searches using variations of the above title and came up empty or just plain missed the answer.I'd like to know, if it is not asking too much, the following points:
1. What exactly is the function of Link State Power Management in the Power Options Advanced Settings, PCI Express?
2. What are the implications of using the options available:
a) Off.
b) Maximum power savings.
c) Moderate power savings.
d) Which option is the best selection for my Dell laptop.

I use my PC for audio production and I have a few external controller devices that are USB powered, for example a midi keyboard. I recently had to build PC due to a theft....long story short after building the new PC I've noticed that my USB buses have continual power to these external devices after I've powered down the PC. My old windows 7 PC did not do this. Is there a setting I can change to shut off power to the USB buses when I power off the PC? Or is this a hardware issue?

Over the past 2 years my PC has been afflicted with random power off/power on/reboot events. It will go for months without these and then have multiples of the events in a day. (I had 8 of them 3 days ago.)I assume I have a hardware problem, but nothing has been found and I'm grasping at straws. The time between power off and power on is several seconds.I had assumed this rules out a software cause, but maybe I'm wrong. I know Windows can schedule a power off, but can it tell BIOS (or something) to power back on in a few seconds?I know blaming the power supply is a much more simple explanation, but then I'm left with explaining the intermittent nature of the failure.

My computer wouldn't shut down, even with holding in the power button, and so I just let it run out the battery. Then it wont turn on. I tried holding down the power button to clear out any charge that might be remaining. I have managed to get it back on, but I have to make a connection at the clip where you plug the power button ribbon into the mobo. Also, this is the second time I have had to do this. The computer works fine afterwards...or seems to anyway.

I am running a dual monitor setup with my TV hooked up via HDMI to my laptop.
Everything was working fine before, I always had the laptop as my main display yet I could play a video or a game fullscreen on the TV.
Since a couple of days, as soon as I put something in fullscreen, it immediately goes on my laptop, regardless if it's open on my TV or my laptop. I don't remember changing/installing anything that could've changed that...
I checked a bit in the AMD vision software and the Windows control pannel but I can't seem to solve my problem without switching my TV as the main display. I also made a quick search on google as well as here but the problems were mainly with Flash, which isn't in cause here.
Here are my system specs:
Toshiba Satellite L75D
Windows 7 home premium 64-bit
AMD Radeon 6520G
