I have Windows 7 installed on my computer. I'm helping a friend fix his computer. He has a netbook with no DVD drive and I couldn't find my external DVD drive. I plugged his hard drive into my computer to access it. I successfully installed windows to his hard drive form my computer. I then removed the drive and will place it back in his computer soon.now when my computer boots it tries to boot from the Windows 7 installation I did to his hard drive. I get an error saying that the drive has been removed or is not accessible or whatever. Obviously that's because I removed it.can I change the default OS to boot from? I have 2 Windows 7 options (mine and the installation I just did on his). Can I remove the option to boot from the recent installation I did on his hard drive?
What is the advantage of choosing the option to let my hard disk enter standby?I have it enabled on TuneUp utilities to spin down after 5 minutes. Is it like putting my computer to sleep? Is there a noticeable lag to spin back up and everything?
I'm trying to stop users having the option to right click on a program and select run as administrator, but i still want to keep to right click menu, i've been trying to to this as a group policy.
i want people to prevent to shutdown there pc.. But not restart or standby mode.. Is there a way to only remove the shutdown button instead of everything? like the tweak on this forum.
I'm trying to remove the option for user's to right click on programs and select 'run as administrator' i need to keep the right click menu but have the 'run as administrator' option either grayed out or removed.
My PC, EVERY time I cold boot, I get a blue screen on or before the Starting Windows screen. I have taken a wild guess that this is my video card or my mainboard because I remember seeing an "nv" in one of the errors a long time ago and I have dual 9600 vid cards and an NForce mainboard. This has happened since the PC was brand new, running Vista 64, but I never cared because after letting the box literally warm up, I can boot and reboot fine and everything. I am totally OK with this problem even though I have tried to fix it unsuccessfully without putting too much effort into it because I don't want to work on this all day ever as long as I can boot. It's cool. That has very little to do with my question though, but I am just presenting it as the cause, but I require any suggestions on fixing it the bluescreen. Its part of my life now, and I would probably feel weird without it at this point.
The actual problem is that i usually turn the PC on, walk away, come back in a few min to a bluescreen and then reboot, walk away again adn and Vista would come right up and be ready when I got back. Windows 7, after a failed boot, will kindly and with the best intentions assume that i want to fix that problem and will select Windows Startup Repair as the default boot option. I need to physically wait for this prompt and pick Start Normally. If I don't my PC is yelling at me for trying to cancel Windows Startup Repair because I know it can't find the solution to my problem, nor do I require it to fix that problem. I often forget to wait for this prompt and it slows down my normal workflow and cuts into my routine.
How can I select Start Normally as the default option after a failed boot? If I need to run Startup Repair, i will most likely make myself available to select it from the prompt. I don't see anything in Startup options and haven't had to manually configure a boot option via text file since Windows 98 so I'm not even 100% sure where to begin where to look.
i have a lot of photos in different folders and i want to sort them into order of date taken, i know this can be done via ..right click, sort by..more..date taken. But this is a pain to keep doing, is there anyway i can have it so windows remembers that i want "date taken" in the right click menu or can it be set as default anywhere?
I am going to order my free windows 7 upgrade . The problem is i want to choose different language for order (my current language is russian and i want to install english). Will i have any problems if I choose another language? Has anybody expirience about ordering windows 7 upgrade with other language? I really need your help, because i dont want to spend 20 bucks (for shipping) and find out i throw away my money and free copy of windows 7.
I'm unsure exactly how to choose what chipset I want to buy for him. Previously, I just sort of looked at each of my available motherboard options, and chose which one had the requirements I was looking for. However, my friend is on a budget, so I feel like buying a specific chipset might be a better, cheaper option (instead of buying one with the ports that he wants, but with other ports he doesn't need). Is there an easy way to compare the different chipsets? The Wikipedia article is somewhat useful, but also seems to have some inconsistancies (I own a Z68 motherboard with USB 3.0 support, something the Wikipedia article doesn't list). Then again, perhaps this is normal for motherboards,To elaborate on my friend's preferences, he has no need for any integrated graphics, and would be.interested in future-proofing (SATA III, USB 3, PCI-e 3), if the price is right. He'll be buying an Ivy Bridge LGA 1155.
In my laptop existing OS is Windows 7 Home Premium x64.
Hardware config is HP i7 Quad processor 1.7 GHz. 4 GB DDR3 Ram, 500 GB HDD.
My system perf is slow. I installed few softwares. I have deselected most of the startup services and programs from msconfig. Eventhough my system bootup time is slow, and whenever i open mycomputer it taking time to load.
I have decided to install Windows 7 Enterprise Edition x64 by formatting my C drive. But there is no option while i do clean install.
I saw someone had posted earlier about what I think is the same issue, but the page disappeared. My TV is not going to the resolution that I set on the computer. It is going to 1920x1080 which looks awful since it is not its native setting. I wanted it set to 1360x768 which looks the best. Does anyone know why my TV is doing this? I use to be able to do it but had trouble recently when I showed my friend today.
I need help choosing parts for building a Desktop PC! I will use it for gaming, programming, watching HD movies, and I want to watch 3D (if my budget can). My budget is $1,500.I want my processor Intel, and i7 if it is good! These are what I choose for RAM and Storage: [code] I want to add WiFi adapter, and I want the Mobo to have so much PCI slots.I don't mind if the Mobo is so big, because the case I will choose is Full Tower!
I've came across a problem where one of our clients chooses projector only so he can have his desktop on a monitor rather than his laptop, when he does this the laptop restarts then asks for admin creds... it's a sony vio laptop, i can't see anything online about this, and his is the only mechine that does this.
I was downloading a screen recorder called camstudio and once I downloaded it it asked to choose a programme to open it with, so I chose winrar because most of my other files were opened with this, but then once I chose this all of my icons in the bottom bar were changed to the winrar programme logo, so I thought if I uninstalled the winrar software the problem would be solved, so I did but now all the icons are gone and every time I try and open something it asks me to choose a programme to open it with!
When I boot up my Win 7 Pro x64 computer I have to choose either Windows 7 Pro or Windows 7 Pro. One works but the other cannot startup so how do I remove it. I've searched on the internet but they all seem to be for WinXP and require me to choose edit but there is no edit button available.

I need help choosing a decent vcard for online gaming. Games like Lineage II, LoL, Bloodline Champions, Dragon Nest... i dont mind playing with low details, i just like to have smooth gameplay and I usually don't play full screen unless it has no option to play windowed.Seeing on the system specs they usually have for minimun requirements for the games i download is the geforce 6600 gt, though, after asking my pc tech friend, he said that card is old so people dont sell it anymore and he suggested the GT430. After some googling, it seems that many people came to agree that the GT430 isnt good for gaming and they gave comments saying at least get a GTX460 for decent gaming. I'm totally new to the video card world so i have no idea how to choose one. [code]
I upgraded my XP system ( IBM 8291-E2U) to Windows 7 yesterday, knowing the video adapter on my motherboard was not fully Windows 7 compliant. My HP w2207 monitor's optimal resolution is 1068 x 1050 @ 60 ghz.
The video card I am considering is an : NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS 512MB DDR2 PCI Express Graphics Card
My concern is that this may not work with my mother board which is :
*Chipset*Intel i915G/GV/GL/P/PL/i910GL
Can someone comment as to the viability of this card and give me a process to follow from install to operation -- i.e. how to disable VGA and when ?
I am currently using internet on DSL on Local Area Connection. It is not a dial up connection. I also have a WiFi access point. Now, I want my all the applicatons like browsers, Yahoo, Live Messenger etc. to use internet through LAN as usual but there is this application for which I want to use internet for through WiFi, not LAN. Just like Proxy Firewall, you choose for different applications the different proxies. Like this, I want different connections for different applications.
In Windows XP I could choose an item from taskbar buttons' list by clicking on the button and after the list appeared by typing its name's starting character/characters. But in Windows 7 the list just disappears after pressing any key on the keyboard! Is there anyway to enable that feature in Windows 7?
I'm aware of the fact that you can automatically resize attached pictures via file and choosing the right setting.I was wondering if there is a setting which automatically changes the size of a picture which is actually in the mail and not attached.
I'm trying to watch doom but, it's a dual audio avi it plays fine using the eng track in any other player but media center using the media browser plug in chooses the alt language.
Last year I built my first PC running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I really enjoyed it and I'm looking to build another computer. I'm looking to build a small, quite and low energy consuming computer.I'm aware that it's small size and hopefully low power consumption that the choice of hardware, performance and speed will be constrained. I would however pay a premium for better components to get the best performance and speed to power consumption ratio.I don't want a fan and I don't need an optical drive. I would like usb 3.0 as I have a few 3.0 externals and HDMI out but it's not esseintal..Size wise I'd be looking for that would fit into a briefcase or bag. The smaller the better.
I am choosing which OS to boot by changing the boot order in my BIOS. To me, this seems clean and simple. I built 32 bit XP on one disk, then removed that disk from my system, installed a different disk, and built 64 bit Windows 7.
When both disks are installed, I change the boot order to select the OS I want, and each OS sees and can use the files on either disk.
Am I asking for trouble here, or is this as clean as I think it is? What I want is one set of user document files which can be used from whichever OS has been booted.
My issue is that i would like to be able to have media center audio play only through my tv and not through my pc main speaker system, tv is hooked through hdmi output on graphics card, speaker system through 5.1 output on motherboard. I have tried the audiorenderupdater extender but all that does is set default audio out for entire system, so when itunes is used or game is played on computer audio goes through tv. I would like all system noises, media player, and game audio to run through pc speakers and simultaneously all media center audio (recorded/live tv) to go through tv audio, so i can watch sports center while playing mass effect and have audio from sportscenter on tv audio from mass effect on pc speakers.
Also is there a way to separate media player's actions from media center's. For example if you are laying music in media player and then open media center and play a tv show, music playback stops, not a big deal just like media player better than itunes and would like to be able to watch tv in media center while playing music in media player rather than itunes
i installed a privatized vpn form the website http://searchab.com/?aff=7&uid=e8e48831-4e17-11e2-be75-5404a6e253a3&q=%s and i have no idea how to remove it.i have bitdefender but its not detecting anything in the system
every time I start up Google I get the message:The Ask Toolbar has been successfully installed.
