I also want to limit the programs access to only files within the folder it is located in. In other words, I don't want the game to be able to access my computer's services, files, etc other than the files contained within the World of Warcraft folder on my hard drive.
I am concerned that I could be hacked and an attempt was already made to change my WoW password. I noticed my outlook window flashes when WoW is running at the same time. I use an authenticator on my Wow account so my account was not compromised other than the inconvenience of having to reset my password from within the us.battle.net account management website.
I use Norton Security Suite and Malwarebytes anti malware protection programs but I would feel much more secure if I could limit Wow to only access the WoW folder on my PC.

(I've got Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit) Every time I click to run the .exe I either get that Windows cannot find the specified path, or that I don't have permission to run the program. Now when I start the laptop the programs pinned to my startup menu do not start and if I want to start a program I have to start by right clicking and starting as system admin. Not sure what to do now to fix this.
View 6 Replies View RelatedJust the other day I booted up my computer only to realize that i couldn't open any programs (firefox, skype, word, excel etc.) After double clicking icons it wouldnt pretend to load them by making the circling cursor but would stop. I also couldn't start them from the program directory either. I am curretnly using my laptop to write this as i can't get the internet on my computer either.I rebooted in safe mode and nothing changed., I couldnt access anything. I'm suspecting a virus, but am totally clueless of how to deal with it seeing as I cant run any anti virus programs or download anything to this computer.

With the exception of one computer, all of the machines see each other on the network and can share files. One XP machine does not see the shared folders of my new Win 7 machine but does list it as a "workgroup" computer. When I try to access the computer itself I am prompted for a password. Passwords are turned off on the Win 7 machine and none of the other computers on the network get prompted for passwords to access this computer. I assumed that it was due to the setting on the Win 7 machine but they are all set for sharing with everyone on the network. Passwords are off. Firewall is off as well. The network name is consistent across all the machines. I've been unable to find any information on why just one computer on the network would be prompted for a password to access another computer on the network.

But, upon buying my new Win 7-64 bit laptop, a number of these do not provide for right-click access. I have un-installed and re-installed, but no luck. I really wish I could use File Shredder.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed Windows 7 on my 64 bit HP machine as an upgrade vs clean install- computer came with Vista and I upgraded to Windows 7 prior to loading programs on it. Norton Internet Security, itunes, Adobe Lightroom, TomTom Home cannot access their servers for updates etc.
I can access internet via IE and get Windows updates via the internet. I tried disabling the Windows firewall, allowing prpgorams access to internet via firewall, tried adv setting in firewall. Nothing worked.
Any suggestions?
I just reformatted my computer and installed Windows 7 64bit. I can access the internet just fine on Google Chrome. I can download at the fastest speed my connection will allow. Some programs, 2 in particular, won't allow connections but others will. Examples are: Ventrilo, and PlayOnline will access the internet, but GSC and Final Fantasy XI will not allow connections. I've gone through the router and opened ports for them, disabled UAC and windows firewall. I do not have any other firewall or virus scanner installed yet as they interfered on previous systems setting up my commonly used programs. I've also tried running the programs as administrator to no avail.

The problem is: even though I am the administrator, I cannot even view what is in that folder, much less delete any files withinit.The vendor (GENIE9) is totally clueless as to how to do this.Apparently the operating system has put some severe restrictions on this folder even for users that are administrators.

I just want to know the best way to allow programs to be accessed and/or denied access by various user accounts.
Example: I currently have Photoshop Elements installed on my computer and the only way I could find to give access to the others users (household media center) was to copy a short cut and paste it on that users desktop. Then I had to install it on each individual user account. I had to do the same for Firefox and Napster. Is there a better way to do this??
I am currently having issues with Napster running correctly and I have a feeling it's because of the way that added this to each user's account.
I have installed Windows 7 on my Computer on a separate partition to Windows XP2 to have a dual boot set up. Now, I would like to allow Windows 7 access to the Programs I have operating with Windows XP. If possible without having to install them again for Windows 7. These programs are currently scattered over three partitions including the OS partition of Win XP
Majority of these appear to have system files in the Win XP OS.
Is there any simple way I can get these programs to function under Windows 7 without having to install them again for Windows 7?
No 32Bit programs can access the internet, only 64Bit ones. Internet Explorer 64Bit works and Internet Explorer 32Bit crashes.Firefox, MSN, and Ventrilo are all 32Bit and no longer work. Windows update still works as thats 64Bit. OMG please help i have had this problem for over a year?

how to deny internet access to all my programs by default? I mean that internet access is completely blocked to my existing programs, files, etc. and to all future programs that I might install or files that may be created.

My account is set up as an administrator, and I have always been able to do whatever I desired on my system. Now I can't install programs at all. Every one I try, I get an "access is denied" message. For example, when I try to (re)install winmail-reader-setup.exe, I get "Unable to execute file in the temporary directory. Setup aborted. Error 5: Access is denied"What in the world have I done?! I have checked my account, folder privileges, etc, and nothing looks amiss except that I have two "unknown" user accounts that I haven't seen before...not sure how those got there. But I'm running with my own account, with full privileges, administrator access.

The main on has windows 7 32 bit installed plus several programs. The new computer will have windows 7 64bit. Is it possible to install the old hard drive and access all the programs and files on it even though it has an operating system on it? Can I just transfer all those programs and files from the old one and reformat it to free space or is there a way to just remove the operation system and still access the the files and programs?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have turned on the Guest account, and I need to set program and folder access permissions. I have google'ed the way to set file and folder permissions, but I am having some difficulty with some of the things that I need.
For instance I need to:
-deny access (just deny listing the directory structure; can read & write so apps can work) to C:* , Control Panel, and a few other locations
If I try to deny dir listing for Guest on root C: , it gives me a couple warnings and will not set permissions for "program files, program files x86, windows" folders even though I am the admin. After those initial issues, it continues to set the permissions for all the rest of the files. If I log into the guest now, goto Computer and double click on C: , it now says "access denied", which is good but if I type in the address bar up top "C:users", it will goto that location; not display the access denied message. I am using the Home Premium edition so I cannot use the Group Policy Editor..

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just recently bought an HP Pavilion p6730f BV533AA#ABA Desktop PC - Intel Core i3-550 3.2GHz, 6GB DDR3, 1.5TB HDD, DVDRW, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Right out of the box it started acting a little touchy. I bought to get a project done for a client, so immediately I installed Adobe premiere cs5 along with a slew of other programs I use day to day. Within the first two days I noticed it would sometimes fail to open new programs after it had been left on for about a day. For example: lets say I go to open firefox, so I click on the firefox icon pinned to my taskbar. It glows, as if it is loading then fades. As if the computer forgot what my request was. I try clicking a few more times; same thing. So I go to the shortcut in my start menu, click it: same thing. the little circle appears next to my cursor for a moment, then the request is gone. Tried hotkeys; (windows button plus number position on taskbar) still nothing. I then try every program on the taskbar, each with the same results. (and giving proper time for the computer to think) Even simple programs like text editor will not open. To top it off, the shutdown process wont even initiate! At which point I have to hard-crash out to restart. After a fresh restart it works fine for a few days or so till this happens.

The game suddenly freezes and I wait to see if it shoud come back, and it never does.So I press Ctrl-Alt-Del to close the program, and the status says "Not responding" I close the program and wait like 5-10 sec until I can see it's closed in "task manager" and i try to start the program again.This happens, the cursor shows that it's "thinking" for like 2-3 sec, then nothing happens. I have not downloaded any files or programs lately which could have caused this difficulty. I have run NIS program, anti-spyware. and malware-bytes, to no avail. I cannot seem to run backup using Ease Us Todo Backup; program fails to function. It worked before. Windows Backup fails to give any indication that it is actually working.
It takes longer to start up. I have run "Start Up Repair" to no avail. It also takes longer to shut down (no updates are in progress). Certain programs such as the one to enable process of my digital camera photos, fail to work. There was no such problem in the past. When I attempt to use this program, a screen from uTorrent appears, even after I have removed uTorrent, and re-downloaded the camera software. I have tried "System Restore" to no avail.
Contrary to the instructions, I cannot choose my own 'restore point', but only from a list created by Windows. The standard Windows 7 repair programs have failed me. I have nowhere else to turn. I have considered a registry cleaner, but the advice on this program is mixed; half of the people say it worked for them, the other half say never screw with my registry. If I cannot even backup my files, I am screwed.
